Synopsis

You don’t know when…
You don’t get to choose if…
When it’s time to join…you’ll know.

You might think you want to be a member—but trust me this is one club you don’t want to join. It’s not a place where people go to live out their deepest, darkest sexual desires—there are no handcuffs or blindfolds.

The 27 Club only admits those who die young and tragically. My brother was recently bestowed membership and joined many of our ancestors before him. I know I’m next. This is my destiny, and I was ready to yield.

But then I met Nate. He awakened a sensuality in me that had never been explored, never satisfied. I knew then I could no longer accept my destiny. Nate’s presence controls me. I’m overwhelmed by his touch, his words; my every thought is consumed by desire. I believe he was brought into my life for a reason.

Nate doesn’t believe in destiny.

But I do.

And if there’s a way to cheat it—I must.

Review

I am sitting here staring at the screen trying to figure out how in the world to write a review for this book without giving too much away. Reading The 27 Club by Kim Karr I was amazed and surprised with the journey she took me on. I have been a Kim Karr fan from the moment I first read Connected and have followed her through the entire series loving every minute of it. When I heard she was writing a new standalone that was very different than the characters I have grown to know and love I was excited but apprehensive. Would I love these like I live my Rivers family? Would I connect with them? Will the subject matter be something I enjoy? I know that I have read new books by some of my favorite authors and not loved them as much as I loved their previous work and I can without a doubt say that that is not the case here.

“Fuck Destiny.”

The 27 Club is a sexy suspenseful novel that left me guessing the whole way through. Zoey knows what her destiny entails. Much like her brother, mother grandfather and many other ancestors she is doomed to die at 27 in a horrific way. This is what is meant for her and when she does she too will gain access into the 27 Club.

“He’s what I crave.

He’s what I want.”

Nate is the best friend of her recently deceased brother and once she arrives in Florida to settle his estate, Nate soon becomes a friend and confidant. Clearly attracted to one another these two fight off their feeling for their own reasons. Nate and Zoey must figure out it the weigh of their past is more important than the possibility of their future. But what future does Zoey really have? She honestly believes that this, her 27th year, will be her last. Is it wrong of her to covet this man while she thinks this. And can Nate get past the fact that it was her brother’s wish that he stay away from his sister? With so much lined up against them I was questioning everything throughout this book.

“I’ll hold you to that. Tonight I’m taking control. Can you handle that.”

The 27 Club was very erotic (somewhat dominating, wink wink) and extremely suspenseful. I honestly had no idea where the book was going and was constantly changing my conspiracy theory the whole time. In my opinion this book proves that Kim Karr can take a chance with something very different and still deliver.
