4.5 Smooches
Synopsis
If you’re looking for a heartwarming story about a girl who falls deeply in love with a troubled boy who changes her life–a sob story with pretty metaphors and a million ways that’ll tell you how “broken” she is, STOP. Don’t read another word of this.
I’m not that type of girl.
My name is Emerald Anderson and I’m not going to bullshit you: I flunked out of college after my sophomore year, I’ve been fired from every job I’ve ever taken, and I’ve never had a fully functioning relationship in my life.
I wish I could say that I had a cheerleader in my corner, someone who says, “No, Emerald–You’re great and you are good at something!” but I don’t. My grandparents are completely oblivious to my life, and my mother’s dying words to me were “You’re going to end up just like me one day. A beautiful nothing.”
She was right.
As I decide to start my life over and take two jobs that will forever change me–one from the inside, and one from the outside, I keep my mother’s words close to my heart so I can keep the sexy and mysterious Carter Black away.
He’s the first man who’s ever pursued me, the first man who seems bent on finding out why I am the way I am, but he’s wasting his time.
I’m not broken. I don’t need to be fixed. I’m perfectly fine being a beautiful failure…
Review
Amazing, amazing, amazing read! I could not put down this book
for the life of me! Even snuck in reads at work! Beautiful Failure
is the beginning to what I am sure will be a great series. I’m even
anxious for book 2.
Mariah Cole did one heck of a job with characters! And reeled
me in on this story hard! Emerald Anderson is one that found a
place in my heart. There was nothing soft or sugar coated about
this leading lady. Hard-ass, straight to the point, and no bullshit
about her. And sadly she had to become this person because of
her mother or lack there of. Emerald, grew up in New Jersey with
her mother; one of the “most sought after escorts”, Leah Belle. In
a turn of events, Emerald is left with nothing but words of wisdom
from her mother. “Always use your seductive smile to get
your way.”
In one of her employment endeavors, she meets a man that can
stand toe-to-toe with Em. Carter Black is the lucky man with his
dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. He is quite the gentleman but can
let it be known to Em that he doesn’t like to play games. I was
constantly guessing what kind of job he had. And how he was
available when Em needed him. But just hang in there because
at the end of the story there is a bit of an a-ha moment. 🙂 The
relationship between these two developed slowly over time.
Emerald was a hard shell to crack for Carter, but his persistence
won.
As an avid reader of fluffy love tales, this one really was an
excellent dose of different. I am struggling writing this review
because well my big blabber mouth can easily give away the
story! So please pick up and read when it becomes available. It
won’t disappoint. 4.5 Smooches for Beautiful Failure by Mariah
Cole!
