Review

This series follows “The Justice Brothers” Cameron, Draegyn and Alex. Although this story is mainly about Cameron we do get introduced to the other guys in the series. They all serve together in the military. The prologue of the story gives you insight into why these three are like they are. You follow their time in a special ops unit and read about an incident that meant things would never be the same for any of them.

After leaving the military behind they set up an agency together which deals with surveillance, protection and cyber security. Cameron is taking a break after an assignment when he first meets Lacey. Cameron watches her behaviour and body language and for some reason he couldn’t ignore her, the more he watches her the more he realises it’s because her life seems somewhat similar to his old life. He follows her and comes to her rescue when she is attacked in an alley way, Cameron decides to take her back to his motel and clean up her injury. Although hesitant at first Lacey follows, and then as evening descends she ends up helping him when he comes down with a fever.

For whatever reason Cameron can’t understand he decides to offer her a life line, this means she would come back to Arizona with him and he would get her a job. Lacey is unsure of what to do, but eventually decides that this is the best thing for her, a fresh start, a news life. The sexual chemistry between Cameron and Lacey doesn’t seem to hurt. You can feel the tension coming off the page, as they both try and figure out why they feel this way, and they try and control themselves. “We both got carried away and for good reason. The chemistry between us is powerful and even without experience you sensed it.”

The journey to Arizona is meet with some conversation, a few motels, and lots of smouldering looks being exchanged. After a trip to a military base, everything changes between them. Cameron’s fighting demons, Lacey wants to comfort him but is unsure of how. Back at the hotel, Cameron decides he can’t wait any more “He’d reached his breaking point. He. Couldn’t. Stay. Away.” In the morning he did what he seemed to do best, closed himself off and retreated. Lacey wasn’t going to put up with that so when he returned she turned the tables.

Getting to Arizona and getting settled seemed to have happened quickly for Lacey, she fit in with Alex and the other employees, she completed her job well and everything seemed to be going well for her, apart from getting Cameron to open up to her. Cameron can’t seem to figure out his feelings, he is jealous of Alex talking to her, but hardly talks to her himself. He spends the night and runs again, this happens just before a trip away, leaving Lacey without him.

Returning, Lacey decides he doesn’t just get off that easy when he ignored her the whole time he was away, she wants control and she wants him to surrender his. Getting what she wants, she leave for work in the morning but her day is ruined with some overheard conversation from Cameron, Alex and Drae. I liked when this happened, although it was quite hard to read as you felt for Lacey, it also made her change as a person and say what she really wanted to say, no barriers.

This was a good read, I enjoyed it and I look forward to Drae’s story and also finding out more of what will happen with Cameron and Lacey. Well done Suzanne Halliday on a gripping read.
