Garrett is the second book in the Carolina Cold Fury series by Sawyer Bennett and it was FABULOUS! As much as I enjoyed book 1, Alex, I thought Garrett was so much better. From the moment I met Garrett in Alex I knew I would love him and his fun loving personality but what I never expected was how sweet, endearing and affectionate he could be.

When Garrett meets Olivia for the first time he is completely attracted to her hot body and definitely feels a pull to her but is convinced that is all it is physical attraction. Garrett Samuelson is a manwhore and he has no desire to be anything else. That is until he takes Olivia out on a date and quickly realizes what he feels for her is more than just the crazy strong physical attraction he has to her.
“Tonight is for me. I’ll have one more night with Garrett, and I am sure it will be a spectacular night, but then it’s time to part ways. He has more carousing to do, and I have cancer to fight.”
Olivia has a secret and is drowning in it. She is sick with cancer but doesn’t want to tell Garrett. After deciding to finally start living her life for her and to have a little fun while doing it. Enter Garrett Samuelson, star hockey player for the Carolina Cold Fury team and a guy she knows she can just relax and have a little fun with and he won’t be expecting any more.

Olivia’s best friend and the flamboyantly gay owner of the flower shop she works in , Stevie, was a breath of fresh air. He was the perfect balance to the sad nature that the topic of cancer brought to the book. He was fun, witty and always lightened the mood. Garrett and Stevie develop a bromance was unexpected but delightful too!

Words cannot express how much I loved Garrett Samuelson. While not perfect and not always reacting to unexpected things the best way he really does try to change his womanizing ways. This book is not all hearts and flowers but the difficult topics dealt with in it are done so in a way that makes it an emotional read without being a difficult read.
“Yes, I have cancer. Yes I may die from it one day. But I can’t even be too down about that, because I also have Garrett.”
Living in Raleigh, NC myself I love seeing my town and a team very similar to my own Carolina Hurricanes team in the book. I live 5 miles from the stadium here and have been to many a game so for me personally this series is a novelty of sorts and the whole hometown aspect just adds to the charm of these books. All I can say after finishing Garrett is Sawyer please hurry and bring on Zack!
