Synopsis

Gemma Carlson didn’t plan on waking up married.

She also didn’t count on running into her old flame—and her son’s father-turned-country rock star—Travis Bowers, followed by a night of drunken dares. Apparently one of those involved a ring on her finger and a vow … neither of which she intends to keep. Now with a hangover from hell, this good-girl-gone-bad knows there’s just one thing to do: run.

Travis has been all over the world, but Gemma has never been far from his thoughts. So when they had the chance to catch up over a few drinks, he didn’t hesitate. Of course, he didn’t expect it would lead to marriage, or a runaway bride! Travis finally has a second chance and doesn’t plan on losing Gemma again—or the son he didn’t know he had. He proposes, albeit belatedly, a date. Or rather, a few. If they can make this marriage work by starting over, he stays. If not …

Gemma’s not interested; she’s got a son to protect and a heart to heal. But having Travis around could make both a little easier. Still, good girls don’t date rock stars . . . right?

Review

Good Girls Don’t Date Rock Stars is a second chance romance about two high school sweethearts  who got separated when she got pregnant at 17 at the same time that he left to become a country music star. Ten years later she is a single mom and he is a famous singer, who still does not know about his son. When they run into each other in Vegas, Gemma decides to have a little fun while reliving the fun times she had with the only man she ever loved.

“She was the best friend he’d ever had, and he’d tried to resist messing it up, tried not to feel anything else for her, but it was inevitable. He was meant to love Gemma Carlson.”

Enter copious amounts of alcohol, lots of fun sexy times and a wedding ring and Gemma and Travis have found themselves in a crazy situation. Travis’ inability to let go of Gemma despite her need to flee back home to the small town they both grew up in has the gossip mills running. Can Travis and Gemma get past all the baggage they have from their past and actually work towards a future together?

“Kissing Travis was like licking raw cookie dough off the spoon; it might be bad for her, but it was too delicious to care.”

This book was a fun easy read for me. I started and finished it in one day and found it very refreshing. I loved how much Travis loved Gemma but also how real it felt when he wasn’t willing to always look the other way when she would lash out and run from him. Often it feels like the heroes in romance novels are too easy to forgive the women who run from them but after it happens too many times Travis really made her work for it. . In addition to being a sweet romance this story was quite sexy too. Travis was straight sex and knew exactly what to say (and do) to make Gemma forget her doubts and give into the moment.

“Gripping her hips in his hands, he thrust into her, and her eyes closed, her head tilting to the side as he pumped in and out of her, wondering how a quickie in the back of a limo could be the hottest sex he’d had in a long time. It’s her. It’s always been her.

Codi Gary wrote a fun easy story that I read in one day and very much enjoyed. Both Travis and Gemma were frustrating at times because you just wanted them to put their doubts aside and just be together. Still I found myself falling in love with them and rooting for them to work it out the whole time.  I would recommend this book to any fan of second chance romances.
