Synopsis

Her

Snark. Jokes. Attitude.
These were all things I used to disguise the hole in my heart. I’m not a happy person. I don’t live life. I just exist. That is until that beautiful man rides in on his Harley Fat Boy and burns rubber on the way into my heart.

Him

My life’s been no hayride either. Everyone I’ve ever loved in life has died or betrayed me. So I stay back and watch. Unless you’re one of my brothers, you get nothing from me. I don’t participate. I ride. I eat. I sleep. I work. And I repeat. That is until Ember stomps into my life with her bad attitude. She’s all piss and vinegar, and makes me want to share my bike seat for the first time.

Together
They fight like cats and dogs. Don’t see eye to eye on a single thing. They rant, rave, and yell.
They bring out the best in each other. They heal each other’s hearts and souls. They find what they were missing, even the things they never even knew they had.

Everything is perfect. If you didn’t count a gang, one of the biggest in the South, gunning for Ember. That, or the pure evilness that is Gabe’s ex-girlfriend. Gabe will have to put his life on the line to save the one woman he loves, but will it be enough?

One thing is constant in life. It’s about the journey, not about the destination.

Review

“Highway Don’t Care” is book 2 of the Freebirds Series. And can be read as a stand alone. Ember and Gabe embark on a journey of gangs, guns, bikes and babies. Can these two find peace in this crazy biker world?
Well lets just dive in, shall we? There were a lot of events that happened in this book that didn’t quite seem realistic for me. Could there have been less twist and turns in the storyline? Perhaps there could have. Most books I have read don’t see this much drama and was a small turn off. This doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy the book. Because I did think it was good. There were a few typos and there were times when I felt like they could have done without a few descriptions.
I have read a very popular biker book series and with this book following after it wasn’t good or bad. Just left me feeling lukewarm. Aside from the drama at every corner this book had great relatable conversations between close friends. I could tell the group of Free was truly a family and everyone just laid it all out there. I would laugh and roll my eyes because I thought the same things as Ember in her funny moments. Especially when Cheyenne and Ember made James listen to boy bands on a road trip, because I do this to my husband also 🙂
Lani Lynn Vale did do a good job with this book. Being a fellow Texan, I was able to connect knowing all the locations from the book. It was a nice change to read a book that was close to my neck of the woods. Great potential and look forward to reading book 1, so I can see how this series began. 3.5 smooches for Highway Don’t Care.
