Synopsis

Brody is a talented motorcycle mechanic and werewolf stuck in his painful past. On yet another depressing night, he is viciously attacked by vampires.

Fallon is a brilliant tattoo artist with inherent magic. Tired of men and their games, she climbs onto her Harley and leaves her old life behind.

Running for his life, Brody crashes into Fallon and sparks fly. She ends up stranded in the Northwest with her ride out of commission.

Stranded with no ride and nowhere to go, Fallon allows her best friend to convince her to stay in Brody’s apartment. He’s determined to claim her heart and keep her safe from the shadows in her past. Fallon prides herself on her independence and would rather keep him safe, even from herself.

With the impending danger from the group of vampires and dark mages, they will have to work together. The closer they get, the harder it is for her to fight her attraction.

Be prepared for monsters, magic and lots of ink.

Review

If you read my review of the novella that came before this book, New Beginnings, you would remember that I am overall new and unexperienced in this whole paranormal world. While I have read a few Vampire books some of which I have really enjoyed I had never really connected to them and was never “dying” to get my hands on more. So imagine my surprise when upon completion of reading and listening to New Beginnings I was basically salivating waiting to get my hands onto In Too Deep (also I would love to get my hands on the sexy southern hero, Brody, but more on that in a minute.) I can honestly say that I am a self proclaimed “alpha-whore” and as it turns out shifter books fit right into that genre nicely.

In Too Deep is the story of sexy tattoo artist and druid, Fallon, and pack enforcer and widower Brody. We met both these characters (although Fallon only briefly) in New Beginnings so I knew a tad bit of what I was getting but boy was there a ton I was not expecting. Fallon is on the move from a relationship gone bad when she gets into an accident with Brody and gets stuck in Edenton for a while. This is not upsetting to Brody at all since as a wolf he knows his mate when he meets her. I know a lot of people out there are anti “insta-love” but for me personally I kinda love getting caught up in that it feels so right, this must be my perfect match, magical feeling that comes from when two people who are meant to be together just get it.

Both Fallon and Brody come with a ton of baggage. He lost his wife and the child they should have had and she has been treated so poorly by her ex, Isaac that she is not sure if she is ready to jump all into a new relationship. But despite all this they cannot deny their scorching chemistry and strong pull. Plus, they have bigger issues to deal with . . . like a conflict amongst some Vampires led by a powerful and twisted Vampire named Malachi. I cannot even get into the complicated and action packed drama that is brewing in this book. But what I will say is that I was both on the edge of my seat reading it and drying my eyes because for as much of it was fast paced action it was also deeply emotional and heart wrenching.

I LOVED Fallon as a leading lady. She is a leader and doesn’t take shit from anyone. I love how when she knows what is right she doesn’t stop to ask permission but proceeds with it, such as putting wards in tattoos. but while she is strong willed and self assured she is also responsive to the alpha in Brody. They are a balance to each other. For while she is a tough chic, he is a sexy southerner which softens him a bit compared to some other alphas like Slater from New Beginnings. That being said Brody is ALL MALE and definitely ALL ALPHA! I could read/listen to  Brody all day long. That man does things to me. . . very very good things.

As I said before I also previously listened to and reviewed the audiobook of New Beginnings, the prequel novella, but I had a few concerns going into this book. When I listened to New Beginnings I had the added benefit of the fact that I had previously read the book version. So while it had been a few months since I had read it I knew the story and that made it super easy to follow along. So when I started In To Deep I was slightly concerned, not being a para reader typically, that I would have a hard time following along in the crazy and complex world that exist inside Brandy Rivers head. While I will say there were a few times where I had to back up 30 seconds or so because I got distracted and missed something and suddenly everything had changed it was not often and in my experience of listening to over 100 audio books I have to do that some in almost every book. My other concern was not being able to keep up with all the different kinds of “others” and what they can do and how they all interconnect. This is where I feel Brandy shines. She writes these crazy complex worlds that I believe every long time para reader will love and get lost into while at the same time constantly helping out us newbies by explain the differences and how they all interconnect.

After listening to In Too Deep I am very excited to jump feet first into more paranormal books especially those by Brandy Rivers. I can 100% say that if you are looking to give paranormal a shot this is a great place to start.
