Synopsis

From the New York Times bestselling author of Jake Undone, comes a full-length standalone companion novel and sequel.

A different side to the story: Jake’s side.

“We’re getting a new roommate,” they said.

I thought nothing of it…until she walked in the door. Her hand trembled in mine as she looked at me with fearful eyes. My entire world spun on its axis.

Nina…

It was a mismatch made in heaven: innocent girl from the boonies moves in with tattooed, pierced, badboy engineer.

I came up with a bet, a plan to tutor her in math and coach her through her phobias. What I wasn’t betting on was becoming addicted to her.

But I was living a double life on weekends, and once she found out about it, she’d be gone.

I had to protect myself and that meant one thing: I couldn’t fall in love.

In Jake Understood, pivotal scenes from Jake Undone are retold from Jake’s point of view combined with all-new material from both the past and present time where Jake Undone left off. It can stand alone but if both books are read, should follow Jake Undone. Contains graphic sexual content and harsh language. It is only appropriate for adult readers age 18+.

Review

“Some of the most beautiful things are those we can only enjoy from afar. The unattainability makes the attraction more intense.”

Jake Understood is a companion novel to Jake Undone and while it can be read as a stand-alone I completely recommend reading Jake Undone first. Jake Understood starts off in the present and goes back and forth between giving us glimpses into Jake and Nina’s life now and seeing how everything came to fruition in the past, all from Jake’s point of view.

“What a damn shame that no one had ever pleasured her. It made me angry, but in a twisted way, it invigorated me.”

I desperately love Jake, I loved him in Jake Undone and I am completely head over heels for him in Jake Understood. Penelope takes your quintessential tattooed “bad boy” and shows us his heart and allows us to watch him fall in love, real love, for the first time. Jake is everything, EVERYTHING, I need in a man. Kind and witty while being demanding and responsible. He makes my heart melt and my panties disintegrate.

“I can assure you, there’s nothing gentle about the way I want to fuck you.”

While a good portion of the story is similar and overlaps that of Jake Undone you do get inside Jakes head in those moments, especially those early moments that were oh so confusing for Nina, filled with mixed signals and intense passion that was not acted on. Seeing him struggle with it too gave a new dimension to the story. The best parts of the book for me were hearing about their lives in the many years that have past since Jake Undone ended as well as catching up on some of our favorite of Peneope’s characters (Mitch, Skylar, Allison and Cedric) as well as Ivy who I can’t say I love but also can’t say I hate. Once again Penelope delivered a book I could not put down and reminded me why she is one author I will always one-click.
