Chasing Him by Kennedy Fox Review

5 SMOOCHES!

SYNOPSIS:

Chasing Him is a full-length 110k+ words standalone novel that’s filled with angst, sexual tension, and plenty of forbidden temptation! Let Kennedy Fox take you to the South for a hot, captivating adventure that’ll surely leave your Kindles on fire!

John Bishop isn’t your typical single dad.
Reserved, impatient, and utterly clueless.

Running the family’s bed and breakfast has many perks. Working long hours, picking up after the guests, and hearing couples going at it all night long aren’t any of them. Hooking up with girls who come to the ranch for horseback riding lessons? Best perk of them all.

That is until a baby shows up at his doorstep with a note claiming it’s his. Growing up on a ranch was anything but easy, but raising a newborn is proving to be the hardest task he’ll ever tackle. Leaving the bachelor life behind, his only priority is to hire a nanny who can teach him a thing or two about parenting — except he doesn’t anticipate her being gorgeous and quirky with an unhealthy football obsession.

Mila Carmichael has many talents — making balloon animals, creating origami art, and remaining in the friend zone. Often seen as one of the guys, she’s struck out more times than a rookie baseball player.

Seeking a new adventure, she flies to Texas to visit family and is offered a position she can’t refuse. Helping out a new dad should come easy to her, considering her past experience, but what she doesn’t anticipate is him being an attractive Southern temptation.

But that’s only the beginning.

While growing close to his family and falling madly in love with the baby girl who’s stealing their hearts, things are bound to get complicated. Everyone knows not to mix business with pleasure. That means no late movie nights, no stolen glances, and definitely no kissing behind closed doors. Too bad the universe has other plans — one that’ll threaten taking away the main thing that binds them together.

REVIEW:

The last thing John ever expected was for a tiny baby girl to land on his doorstep and a note that says she is his. Having lived the bachelor life he is utterly clueless about being a single dad and knows he needs a nanny to help him learn and raise his baby girl. Enter Mila. Yes she is the perfect person to help John and his new addition but little did he expect to start to fall for his beautiful and quirky young woman. Mixing business and pleasure is a big no no….but there is little the two of them can do when the fates want you to be together!

“I promise to give you the best life I can,” I tell her. All eyes are on me, but there’s no judgment. Instead, the bunch of them are smiling at me. It takes everything I have not to break down as the realization sets in that this is really happening. Holy shit! I’m a dad.”

I LOVED LOVED LOVED this story. Ahh so many emotions, so many great character and such a captivating plot. I was hooked from the blurb…baby turning up at the doorstep to Dad who didn’t even know he was a dad?? Sold! I think these types of stories are so beautiful because it isn’t just about the love story between the main characters…it’s the love a parent has for a child, even if they didn’t know they were one. It’s about watching a father and daughter become a family and all the laughter, sadness and drama that comes with it!

“I can no longer be that guy who acts recklessly without consequences. Maize’s my life now, and that old lifestyle is long gone.”

What can I say about John….well wasn’t he just the most swoon-worthy man out there! Although living a slightly bachelor lifestyle, even before Maize he was still responsible, hardworking and kind but as soon as Maize comes into his life and he promises to give her a beautiful life straight away….sigh….I just melted into a puddle of goo at how sweet he was. Later on we see his romantic and sexy side and also get introduced to his stubborn side. Considering all that he was going through you couldn’t blame him and he has officially landed on the top of my favourite book boyfriends list! Mila was just another great character…she’s clever, loving, kind, fun and loves her football…again what’s not to love! The way she is with both Maize and John you, could tell she belonged in that family.

“Being with Mila like this is nothing like I could’ve ever imagined. It’s more than just a hook up and each kiss and touch we exchange brings truth to that. The attraction has been undeniable from the beginning, but what we share is much more than that.”

This was such a beautifully written story; from the very beginning with ‘the letter’ that nearly had me in tears, to the way all the Bishops family fell in love with Maize and came together to help, the growing slow burn relationship between John and Mila, and finally, to the trials and tribulations of being a new Dad to a little baby….I honestly couldn’t want anymore from this story. Not at one point did I get bored with this story, there was always something happening that had me devouring the pages.

REVIEW:

Fixing Her is Miranda Elaine’s solo debut novel, and I am in love with this author’s sweet, sultry storytelling style! I always give a new indie author a lot of leeway with their debut novels, but I didn’t need to do that here. Miranda’s writing is crisp and engaging, brimming with endearing characters and a slow burn romance that was so addictive, I had a hard time putting my Kindle down.

Fixing Her was a well-paced, deliciously slow burning romance. The plot packed a serious one-two punch of emotion and humor, and there was one heck of a twist looming in the background that had the potential to change everything. I love the friends-to-lovers trope, and this author’s take on it was refreshing and unique with a bit of a second-chance feel to the story. She did a great job building the romance between a hero and heroine who clicked immediately as adults, recalled each other fondly as teens, and who weren’t going let this chance slip through their fingers.

Temperance, a single mother whose daughter’s father isn’t in the picture, crushed on Asher in high school, so getting this chance with him is the manifestation of all her teenage self’s fantasies. I loved the way the author captured those warring feelings between both the teenage and adult heroine. Asher was a smart man who found something he didn’t realize that he needed—or even wanted—in Temperance, and he wasn’t about to let her get away.

I’m thoroughly impressed with Miranda Elaine’s writing, and I absolutely loved her debut novel, Fixing Her. There is a whole of humor, heart and heat to be found on the pages of Fixing Her, and I absolutely devoured every single word of it. If this is what we can expect from Miranda Elaine right out of the gate, not only can she count me as a fan, but I’m very eager for more from this talented new author. Five smooches from me for Fixing Her by Miranda Elaine!

Law Of Attraction by Alison Bliss Review

4.5 Smooches

Synopsis

For single mom Bobbie Jo Weston, finding a husband is not on her to-do list. She’s focused on turning a run-down chicken farm into a Bed & Breakfast. She agrees to let a friend’s nephew stay with her in exchange for his handyman skills, but she wasn’t counting on the super sexy Seth Landry being that guy.

Seth has a special skill-set, all right, but it has nothing to do with hammering nails. As a retired member of The Resistance—an elite group of ex-military soldiers—his dark, unsettling past haunts him. He needs a place to lay low, and an out-of-the-way B&B is nothing short of perfect. The blonde beauty doesn’t trust men, and he doesn’t plan on sticking around long enough to change her mind.

The closer they get, the more they can’t seem to keep their hands off each other. And while Bobbie holds on to her fear of watching another man walk out of their lives, Seth’s mere presence has put them all in jeopardy. The only way to ever be free of his dangerous past is for him to accept one last mission…

Review

Law Of Attraction is the third book in one of my favorite series, the Tangled In Texas series. Alison Bliss mixes humor, heat, and intrigue in a way that always holds my attention. I love a single mom book and Bobbie Jo was relatable, fun, and everything I’d hoped for.

Seth is all kinds of sexy mystery man and even better he’s living with Bobbie and helping her fix the place up. I was drawn to Seth from the minute I met him and knew he would be a character easy to fall for.

I was rooting for these two to have a forever sort of HEA from the beginning but Ms. Bliss took us on quite a journey to get there. It doesn’t matter if you already love this series or are reading it as a standalone, I know you too will fall for Law Of Attraction.

BLURB:

I’m over men. I’m done with them.

Or at least the ones that work in my kitchen. Fine, one man in particular. Wyatt Shaw is cocky and condescending and so far out of his element that he doesn’t know which way is up. Or how to run his brand new kitchen all by himself.

That’s where I come in. Sous chef extraordinaire. Second in command. Bane of his existence. I am the reason Wyatt’s doing so well as the new executive chef of one of our city’s most prestigious restaurants. He has me to thank for his glowing accolades and five-star write-ups. Only if you were to ask him, he’d say I’m his biggest problem.

Despite his discouragement and bullish behavior, I’ve set two goals for myself.

The first? I’m going to fight my way to the top of this male-dominated industry and claim my own award-winning kitchen.

The second? I’m going to do whatever it takes to ignore Wyatt and his rare smiles and the thickening tension that’s started to simmer between us.

Wyatt Shaw might be Durham’s new shining star. He might be up for a James Beard Award. He might be my new boss and key to my future success, but he’s also in my way.

So he can keep his smoldering looks and secret kisses. And he can be the one that figures out how to make it through service without getting distracted by me.

I’m not the problem. The problem is him.

Excerpt

“I’m impressed, chef. This is a good idea.”

His eyes sparked with the compliment, but his words surprised me. “You shouldn’t say that.”

That look was back, the one that had gotten me into so much trouble last night. One part confident, sexy man, two parts vulnerable and open.

“Say what?” I whispered.

“Chef.”

“But you are a chef.”

His jaw ticked. Anger, I thought immediately. But it wasn’t. It was something else. And now it had me questioning every single time I’d seen it before. “And I like it far too much when you remind me.”

I laughed a breathy, girly sound. I couldn’t help it. Now he was flirting with me? Opening up to me? Sharing his plans for the future with me?

“Wyatt, what are you doing?”

His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down as he struggled to swallow. My eyes tracked every second of it.

“I’m trying not to kiss you, Kaya. I thought that was obvious.”

Now it was my turn to nearly choke on my tongue. “You’re ridiculous.”

“You’re beautiful.”

EXCERPT:

Head turned down, pushing the sleeves of his white Henley up his arms, he swaggers toward me. His jeans hang low on his hips, held up by the same brown belt he wore the other night. His narrow waist directs my eyes to the center of his jeans, and I can’t help wonder what might be behind the crotch of his pants.

And then there is his chest. Barrel like, broad and prominent. His thick biceps showcase his strength, and the fabric of his shirt stretches over his shoulders and forearms. Having spent a lot of time at the gym, I’ve seen every body type, but Colby’s is different. He’s strong, built, but not like a body builder. His body seems to suggest the only kind of weight he’s been lifting is his own body, pushup after pushup. I can’t imagine there being barbells in his workouts, but I can imagine logs, cadets, and heavy machinery. He has working muscles, the kind you earn from hard, dedicated work on the field. In a word? Impressive.

Walking up to Stryder, he grips his friend’s shoulder and says something into his ear. A smirk crosses Stryder’s face before he moves over to our side of the bowling alley and takes Colby’s place.

Is he leaving? Already?

Might as well at this point. It’s not like he’s going to talk to me, not after my pathetic attempt at a bet. I should have known I was going to hang out in the gutter all night. It’s where I usually am when I’m bowling. I blame the ball. The thing has a vendetta against me.

Sighing, I prop my chin in my hand and watch Stryder expertly toss his ball down the lane, getting a strike . . . once again. And just like every other strike, he pumps his arm up in the air and celebrates. We get it, you’re good, no need to—

“Hey.”

That voice . . .

Stunned, eyes wide, not able to move, not wanting to scare him away, I keep my eyes trained forward, soaking in that beautifully deep voice of his for a brief moment before saying, “Hey.”

“Can I sit here?”

Still keeping my eyes trained forward, I say, “Sure.”

My body tingles with awareness of how close he is to me, that fresh laundry scent invading my senses, prickling the little hairs on my arm. My body leans toward his, wanting a little more, searching for anything else he might give me. I don’t know why he’s choosing to engage me in conversation, but I’m sure as hell not moving while he does.

“Sorry about tonight,” he says and he actually sounds sincere.

“Why are you sorry?” I mumble.

Reaching around, he takes my cheek in his hand. The callouses on his palm rubbing against my skin is a welcome sensation. As I’m turned toward him, I steady my breathing. I’m having a hard time slowing my heart rate because of his close proximity, and the unexpected touch shooting a wave of heat through my veins.

“I’m sorry you didn’t get to ask me any questions. I didn’t think you were going to suck that bad.” A playful smile tugs at his lips, and my heart sinks to the floor. Oh God, he’s so gorgeous, especially when he smiles.

Matching his smirk, I say, “I didn’t think I was going to suck that bad either.”

“I feel bad.”

“You should.” That garners a laugh, deep and throaty, the sound cloaking me like a shield, protecting me from the outside world, bringing me into a little bubble where we are the only two that exist.

“Ask me a question.”

Shocked, I swallow hard and say, “Really?”

He nods and holds up his fingers. “You get three.”

“Oh, three? Wow, I feel like you just gave me the key to your soul.”

Rolling his eyes, he adjusts his stance on the barstool and leans back, giving us some space, our knees still knocking into each other. “Easy killer; it’s just three questions.”

“Yeah, three questions I didn’t have before.” Tapping my chin, I try to think of good questions, but now that I have him willing and waiting, nothing comes to mind. I wasn’t prepared for this, he caught me off-guard, and now I feel I can’t be strategic about my probing. “Hmm . . . what do you like to do on the weekends?”

“Jump,” he answers.

Searching his eyes, lips quirked, I say, “Uh, you’re going to have to be more specific than that. What kind of jumping are we talking here? Like jump roping? Because that seems kind of weird to do on the weekends, and if you tell me you’re in some kind of jump-roping club at the academy, I’m not going to believe you.”

His lips curve up as he scratches the side of his jaw. “Jump out of airplanes.”

Oh.

Oh.

That’s . . .

Uh, that’s really hot.

“So you just casually jump out of airplanes?”

“I’m part of the Wings of Blue, the academy’s parachute team. We jump every day, at least two to three times a day after class and before dinner, depending on wind and ceiling limits. On the weekends, some of the guys, including Stryder and me, go to Springs East Airport and do civilian jumps. The more jumps we get in, the higher the chance we’ll be considered for big demonstrations, like parachuting into football games and major sporting events for the Rockies and Broncos.” Ummmm. Did anyone else just hear how many words he gifted me? And seriously? Does the man have no clue how incredibly sexy he is when he talks about something he loves? The expression on his face . . .

“Wow, that’s . . . that’s really hot.” I chuckle. “Sorry, I don’t mean to fangirl over your parachuting, but I guess I wasn’t expecting that answer. You just jump out of planes?”

He slowly nods. “Every day.”

“Anything to get you up in the clouds, huh?”

“Yeah,” he answers shyly, rubbing his jaw. “Okay, next question.”

My dreams might still be the same, but my reality isn’t.

I’m smarter. Stronger. A man.

And I learned a long damn time ago, the only way to achieve my dreams was to avoid distractions—at any cost.

Focus. Resolve. Determination.

But all it took was one single night. One night and my entire life…changed.

One night had me colliding head first with the biggest distraction of my life; Rory Oaks.

Smart. Charming. Beautiful.

Rory changed everything.

Quickly, my one-track mind started to bend.

Each kiss faded decade-long dreams.

And with one single incident, I fly off course.

REVIEW:

I’ve made no secret of how much I adore Meghan Quinn’s writing. Her romantic comedies just tick all of my boxes with their laugh-out-loud humor, witty banter and sexy romances. But what I love most about this author is how she never fails to surprise me with the emotional punch she builds into her stories. Having read the vast majority of her work, I even know it’s coming, and yet I’m still surprised each and every single time. It takes some serious skill as a writer to pull that off so consistently, and without question, Meghan Quinn definitely has it.

When I first read the blurb for The Upside of Falling, I was intrigued to say the least. I knew right off the bat that this would be something very different from the talented Quinn. I just had no idea how different it would be, and once again, this author has taken me by surprise. The Upside of Falling is not a romantic comedy. What it is, though, is a deeply moving, epic journey to soul-awakening love. Larger than life, grand on every measurable scale, this is a wholly unforgettable love story. Passionate and sexy when it needed to be, it was also raw and heart-breaking at times while still managing to be uplifting and hopeful. The delicate balance of this story was masterfully portrayed by Meghan Quinn in what is undoubtedly her finest work to date.

The Upside of Falling is only the beginning of this love story. It left me utterly gob-smacked and reeling, with my heart beating wildly in my chest and my mind racing with possibilities. To say that I’m anxious for the sequel in this duet is the understatement of the year. Days after I’ve finished it, I’m still thinking about it, still talking about it, still obsessing over it. I cannot wait to get my hands on The Downside of Love, and if it’s half as well written as The Upside of Falling, Meghan Quinn will have given her readers a truly remarkable, memorable romantic saga that will stay with them long after they finish reading it. If I could, I’d give The Upside of Falling by Meghan Quinn all the smooches, but since I can’t, five smooches from me are just going to have to do.
