That smile makes me feel like I can do this. Like I can win her heart again. Mine pounds faster as I near her, and it’s not just because I happen to think she’s the most stunning woman I’ve ever seen, but because of who she is.

I arrive at her side, and she straightens. “Hey.”

“Hey.”

There’s that awkwardness again, and I want no part of it today. Like the bungee jumper I am, I lean in and dust a quick kiss on her lips. At first, she freezes. That won’t fucking do at all. My tongue darts out, flicking her top lip. A soft breath escapes her, and she gives in. Her sweet lips linger on mine, sending a charge down my spine. My brain leapfrogs ahead, and I picture scooping her up in my arms, carrying her to a quiet little patch of trees, and kissing her till she begs me to take her home.

I want that badly—I want her to beg for it because she’s at her happiest when she’s overcome—but I suspect it’s too soon for her.

Not to mention, screwing in Central Park usually results in a public citation. Public fornicators are never as clandestine as they think they are.

I nibble lightly on her bottom lip for a few seconds, drawing out a throaty murmur from her. Then I somehow find the will to separate.

She blinks. Several times. She sways the slightest bit, like her feet barely touch the ground. Good. I want her to be affected.

She furrows her brow. “I’m sorry, but do we kiss now when we see each other in the park?”

“Evidently we do.”

“Weird. Because I didn’t get that memo.”

I rock on my heels. “Want me to take it back?”

“The kiss or the memo?”

“The memo,” I say matter-of-factly, like this is all so obvious. “You can’t take a kiss back.”

“You sure on that, Nichols?”

“I can try to take back the kiss. Want me to, sweet girl?” I use the term of endearment I once called her. She doesn’t blanch, and that’s a damn good sign.

She smirks. “Be my guest.”

I kiss her once more, like I’m reversing the lip lock, doing it all in rewind, pulling away ever so slowly, ever so softly, leaving her dazed once more.

Perfect.

If she can drive me this crazy, make me this hard, send the temperature in my blood to beyond incendiary, the least I can do is return the favor.

Judging from her reaction, I’m doing it right.

I gesture from her to me. “Like that. I think that’s how you take back a kiss.”

Chuckling, she nods to the running path. “Ready for me to kick your ass?”

Every competitive bone in my body snaps to attention. “We’ll see about that,” I say, then I smack her pink nylon covered behind.

Her eyes widen, saying oh-no-you-didn’t.

But there’s a twinkle in those baby browns that says the lady might like spanking.

Over the last year, Lauren Blakely has skyrocketed straight to the top of my auto-buy authors list. Sometimes, I feel like I’m in a perpetual state of waiting for her next book to release, so when I get my hands on one, it’s like Christmas, my birthday and Valentine’s Day all wrapped up into one. Getting lost in the pages of one of her novels is one my favorite indulgences. It’s a treat, an absolute pleasure, and the stories Ms. Blakely writes are a perfect example of why I’m a devoted romance reader.

Stars aligning, a surprise reunion, the pieces of the past clicking into place with those of the future… oh yes, it’s safe to say that I adore the whole second-chance trope. Two lovers reconnecting and rekindling a great love that had been lost is a beautiful thing, and The Hot One was a magnificent blend of the familiarity of an old love and the excitement of a new one. I was already on the edge of my seat anticipating this book, so when I did get it, I was positively vibrating with excitement. It took tremendous restraint on my part not to just devour this story whole, but I somehow managed to slow down and enjoy the magic of a lost love being found again. The Hot One drew me right in from the start of those dual his-and-hers prologues and held me – hoping, wishing and praying – until that spectacular moment of surrender when two obviously meant-to-be lovers give in. This is something that Lauren Blakely does incredibly well, and it’s a huge reason why I’m such a big fan of her writing. Her unique ability to tease me with the build-up, stoking that fire until the anticipation explodes as the butterflies in my belly take flight at that all-or-nothing moment when everything comes breathtakingly together.

Tyler Nichols is, well, the hot one. Gorgeous, successful, sexy and an all-around good guy. He’s also a bit cocky, not arrogantly so, but in that born from confidence kind way. Used to setting his sights on a goal and doing whatever it takes to achieve it, Tyler isn’t accustomed to the taste of regret. At least he wasn’t until the day in the park when he sees her, his first love, the woman he’s never forgotten, the one he stupidly pushed away. Curiosity and a desire to clear the air may have been what initially drove him to seek her out, but it wasn’t long before it was much more than that driving him. He sees it all with her, and he wants it badly. What he didn’t realize, though, was how significant the damage was that he’d done to her long ago, and when he finally gets the full gist of it, he’s left choking on a heaping helping of regret and remorse. He is consumed with the need to fix it, to right the wrongs that he did to her, but more than that, he is desperate to win her heart again. He pulls out all the stops to do just that, and his efforts did not go unnoticed. Let’s just say that I swooned right along with Delaney as he bared himself in his quest to make her his again.

Delaney Stewart met the love of her life in college, where they spent their days pursuing their educations and their nights getting lost in each other. At that time, her path was clear – law school and building a life with Tyler. But everything changed very suddenly for her, and in the wake of that tumultuous time, she made substantial changes to her life plan. Now, eight years later, her life looks nothing like the one that they had mapped out together all those years ago. She’s happy, though, and she has her best friends and a business she’s very proud of and that fulfills her. She’s moved on (mostly) from Tyler Nichols, even though her dating life doesn’t quite tell that story. He may have been the one with all the words in their past, but it’s Delaney who leaves Tyler speechless in the present. Yet even with her walls up higher than the great one in China, she still can’t resist the pull to him. His efforts, his honesty and his vulnerability show her he’s a changed man, and now she just needs to figure out if she can trust that and build a new version of the life that they planned together in college.

I’ve always been the girl who rooted for the underdog, so it’s no surprise that I’m a sucker for a second-chance romance, and Lauren Blakely’s The Hot One is precisely what I hope for when I crack one open. Her words kept me eagerly tapping my Kindle as I squealed, sighed and soared through this couple’s heart-healing story. I loved every single thing about this exceptionally well-executed reunion. My heart raced, my cheeks burned, and I smiled from start-to-finish as I devoured this deliciously dirty do-over. The Hot One by Lauren Blakely gets five smooches from me!

It’s been a while since I’ve read one of Lila Rose’s books, and up until this point, I’ve only read her MC romances – all of which I’ve loved. Making Changes is a huge departure from her biker series, and it was such a fantastic surprise to see this side of her writing abilities. I enjoyed this book so much!

Makenzie Mayfair is a curvy girl who was always comfortable in her skin, until six years with Robert, whom she met in college and then married, whittled away at her self-confidence. Wielding his words like a weapon, he dealt Makenzie frequent doses of verbal cruelty. An epiphany of epic proportions at the most inopportune moment helps Makenzie to realize what her fate in life would be if she didn’t make some big changes, and she didn’t waste a single second getting started on that journey. Fate can sometimes be a funny thing, though, but for Makenzie, it put exactly what she needed, exactly when she needed it, right there in her path.

Makenzie had tons of fire and spunk, and I absolutely loved all of her unfiltered reactions and comments. Making Changes wasn’t just about a woman finding herself and her voice again, it was also about a woman who was rebuilding her life and making room in it again for a career, for her family, for friends and for love. There were so many laugh-out-loud moments in this book that I often had tears streaming down my face as I read it. Makenzie and Grayson were perfect together, and their back-and-forth bantering coupled with their sizzling chemistry was romcom gold. Everything about this book was superb, from the inspirational plot to the sweet, sexy romance to the side characters along for this ride, but, it was Makenzie who really stole the show.

As hot as it was humorous, this book kept me smiling and happy from cover-to-cover. I love romantic comedies, and Making Changes is a truly great one that gets five smooches from me!

Moving my arms into position and
bending my legs, I motioned him forward with a wave of my fingers. As he
stepped towards me, I forced myself to view him as an opponent while I went
into combat mode. I held my position, waiting for him to strike first, kicking
out at his left leg as I side-stepped his first punch. Swiveling on the balls
of my feet, I quickly turned and aimed a hit at his kidney, but he was ready
for me and blocked it. He followed it up with a quick jab to my stomach, and
air burst past my lips involuntarily. Then he moved in close, tossing me onto
the mat hard. As quickly as I could, I flipped up and back onto my feet.
From what I’d seen so far, he was as
incredible as he claimed to be and he wasn’t holding much back. It was an odd
time for it, but knowing he was giving it everything he had made me grin even
as I kicked up at his middle, bending low right after I connected to attempt a
sweep of his legs. He anticipated my move, sending me to the ground again using

kick with both legs to his chest. I followed him down to the mat, intending to

with both arms above my head and my legs held down by his powerful thighs. 
“Concede,” he breathed into my ear as
I struggled beneath him.

“Amelie…Mistress, I don’t think you’re getting’ that I seriously find you not hard on the eyes.”

Her skin is pale and creamy, a soft framework for the deep chestnut hair cascading across her shoulders. A dress the color of moss in the summer showcases toned arms and a long, lean line from her shoulders to her calves. A thin rope belt cinches her trim waist, one that I can imagine digging my fingers into.I clear my throat. “Can I help you?”

With something besides getting out of that dress?

“I think you probably can,” she breathes, then blushes a pretty shade of pink. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that. What I mean is …”

She’s flustered. It’s adorable and sexy at the same time. I should say something, interject, help her out, but I don’t. I like this entirely too much.

“I’ll stop talking now.” She flashes me a pretty smile, one that catches my attention in ways it shouldn’t at eight-sixteen a.m. Taking a step towards me, the toe of her shoe catches on the water bottle she didn’t pick up and she comes barreling my way.

Before I know what’s happening, I reach out and catch her under a spray of loose leaf paper.

“Omph!” she heaves as she lands in my arms and I’m surrounded by a sweet, earthy scent.

I should let her go. I should back away, direct her to the front desk to get directions to wherever she’s going, and retreat to my office. Lots of them. Even if I can’t pinpoint one at the moment.

“New guy.”  Someone muttered behind me.
I turned only my head to find Stone, the president, staring at me with hard eyes.
“Yeah?” I asked him, dropping my bag on the floor and heading in his direction instead of out the door like I’d originally intended.
“You’re here because you have a special set of skills that we need.”  The leader of the band of misfits, Stone, drawled.
I nearly laughed.
“That sounds like a bad line out of a movie.” I muttered, wondering where he was going with this.
He tossed me a glare and then yelled.
“Truth!”  Stone yelled.  “Ghost! Get the fuck in here!”
Ghost and Truth walked in the door at the same time, both of them turning to the side to walk inside, and stared at Stone
“Ghost, hold Truth down so New Guy can give him the fuckin’ shot.” Stone grumbled.
Ghost tackled Truth and wrestled him to the desk, then sat on him while Stone leaned back and watched.
“No, motherfucker!” Truth yelled.  “I don’t want it!”
“It’s the fuckin’ flu shot, you dumb shit.  Not a fuckin’ tracking device. Take a fuckin’ chill pill.”  Stone grumbled, staring at the scuffle that was going down in front of him.
I picked up the syringe from the table, similar to the one I’d given everybody else’s flu shot with, and stabbed it in the meat of Truth’s arm.
Truth bellowed in rage, and I flipped the guard up on the syringe before tossing it into the trash can.
“Done?” I asked Stone.  “I have to get to work.”
Stone nodded.
“Yeah, thanks.” He nodded. “Have fun at the nut house.”
I grunted something unintelligible, causing him to laugh.
“Don’t sound so excited.” He laughed.
I flipped him off and walked out the door just as Ghost was letting Truth up
“Why you gotta be such a big motherfucker?”  Truth growled.  “If you’d been anyone else, I’d have gotten away.”
“Why do you think I called Ghost instead of anyone else?”  I heard Stone reply.
