Romantic couple touching and kissing each other

Excerpt:

I lean closer to the table, soften my voice. “Forgive me, but you look so familiar…”

Her eyes widen, and something vulnerable seems to flash in them. She brings a hand to her hair. “I do?”

I nod vigorously. “Yes. So much. It’s eerie.”

She swallows. “We all remind each other of others, don’t we?”

“Perhaps we do,” I say. I’m not sure what to make of her answer so I return to the matter at hand, telling her more of what I would make for her charity fundraiser. My business manager, Eduardo, alerted me to this opportunity the other day when it landed on his desk. With my new restaurant opening a few months ago, I’ve been looking to make a splash in Manhattan. Reviews have been amazing and business has been robust, but I know that fortunes can turn on a dime. Hell, do I ever f*cking know that. “And I would make the most fantastic desserts for you, too,” I say with a wink, because that reminds me of the afternoon I met the girl in Barcelona—we’d both been eating dessert at a street-side café, where we’d started flirting.

 “Desserts are my specialty.”

“What would you make?” she asks, then she murmurs oh God when I tell her what I’d create for the sweetest course. The soft sound she makes stirs something in my chest, then sends a rush of heat below the belt. That sense of déjà vu sharpens, and a reel of images snaps before my eyes, like puzzle pieces fighting to connect.

I scrub a hand over my jaw, arching an eyebrow. It’s driving me crazy. “Are you sure we’ve never met?”

About THE ONLY ONE:

From the New York Times bestselling author of THE SEXY ONE comes a romance about fate and second chances.

Let’s say there was this guy. And he gave you the most mind-blowing night of sex in your life. And you never saw him again.

Until ten years later.

Now, it turns out he’s the ONLY ONE in all of Manhattan whose restaurant is available for my charity’s event.

The trouble is, he doesn’t recognize me.

***

This woman I’m working with is so damn alluring. The first time I set eyes on her, I’m captivated and I can’t get her out of my mind. Even if it’s risky to tango with someone I’m working with, she’s a risk I’m willing to take.

The trouble is, she won’t give me the time of day.

But I’m determined to change that.

REVIEW

“Sometimes heartbreak happens for a reason. Sometimes hurt does make us stronger.”

It seems that I’ve found a new guilty pleasure, and it would be a Lauren Blakely novella. This is the second novella that I’ve read by Ms. Blakely in a few weeks’ time, and just like the other one, The Only One was an unputdownable, utterly indulgent delight to read. Blakely’s novellas are a romance reader’s treat. Obviously constrained by the length, Blakely doesn’t mess around by filling the pages with unnecessary angst or drama. Oh no, not at all. For me, The Only One was like curling up with a warm mug of cocoa only to find out it isn’t my usual cocoa, it’s different–better, spicy, richer–special. This is the story to read when your romance reading heart is beleaguered by angsty or darker tales or when you need to be reminded of how captivating and enchanting falling in love can be. Or when you just want a sweet and sexy second-chance story.

“Do you? Believe in fate?”

Do you believe in fate, in destiny, in serendipity? Because, see, I do, I really, really do. This book had me sitting up and taking notice right away. I was all in on the premise – that the characters initial meeting ten years’ earlier in Spain wasn’t their time, it was more like a prelude of things to come. So when Blakely reunites them a decade later in Manhattan, they are both older, wiser, more experienced—ready. And let me tell you, it was breathtaking. Every single moment of this couple finding each other again, picking up where they left off and discovering the people they’ve become was magical and romantic. I was giddy, positively giddy, as they came together, realized their past connection and then ultimately fell back (or deeper as was the case) in love.

“We fit, like we were meant to be.”

There was a moment in this book, when the heroine could have had a very negative reaction to an exchange between the hero and another woman that she stumbled upon that was ultimately innocent. But instead of storming over and making a scene, the older, more mature woman that she was reigned in her knee-jerk response, examined her feelings and in doing so, she had a very wise realization that allowed her to have a calm reaction. I loved this entire book, but that scene was just so well played. It was absolutely perfect and her inner thoughts in that moment were what set the entire tone of this relationship for me and what had the premise of the whole book snapping into place for me. Brilliant, Ms. Blakely, brilliant!

“We are the lovers who make others jealous…everyone wants what we have.”

When the couple initially met, the heroine was a virgin and the hero, while more experienced than she, was a young man. Ten years later both have more life experiences and relationships under their belts, so when they come together now, it was not with a young couple’s tentative exploration. The passion that these two unleashed upon each other was scorching. It was thrilling, heart-pounding, lustful, confident, sexy. Dirty talking Frenchman – need I say more? Blakely doesn’t shy away from steamy sexual encounters (and I, for one, thank her for that), but when Gabriel lays out all the ways he plans to have her to Penny? Well let’s just say, Penny wasn’t the only one panting.

“…all those times I hoped, it was for this.”

Novella, full-length novel, whatever – this was a fantastic story, plain and simple. I enjoyed every moment of this couple’s story. This is unquestionably one of the most romantic stories I’ve read this year. It was a heady mix of the blush of first love and the bloom of a second chance. It was tender, it was touching, it was passionate collision of old and new coming together at the right time on their fated path. This story was a few hours of heart-healing happiness in my hot little hands, so it is without hesitation that Lauren Blakely’s The Only One gets five smooches from me.

“There is no past that can come between what was meant to be. Us.”

Dreams were just that…something that floated on the cusp of untouchable, taunting you with every graze of your fingertips before slipping even further away.

2-insane-life

Goddamn, that smile is dangerous.

Who am I kidding?  He is dangerous.

I do my best to ignore him, but it’s impossible.  The steady brush of his arm against where mine is resting on our shared armrest constantly reminds me how much my body wants his touch.  The scent of his delicious cologne hits my senses, making me want to climb in his lap and rub my face over his chest to get a potent lungful of it.

I can’t even remember the last time I was this horny, which is pathetically sad, since it was probably around the same time I actually got laid.  Years.  I think.  Close to three.  Maybe that’s why I’m a hot mess lately.   I turn my head to study the side of his face and wonder if I can use this situation to my advantage.  I mean, after all, we are in a ‘relationship’ now.

He turns and gives me a questioning arch of his dark brows, but I brush it off in favor of playing Disney Emoji Blitz on my phone.

By the time we had hit cruising altitude, I could hear the other men around me snoring away but not Chance.  He’s fiddling with his phone, completely ignorant of the fact I’m about to start humping his leg.

“Excuse me,” I breathily say, unbuckling my belt and standing to move around him.  I stand there, my head bent slightly because of the overhead, and wait.  He doesn’t move, though.  Instead, he drops his phone to his lap and gives me his complete attention; his eyes even dance a little like he’s finding this whole damn thing funny.  “Excuse me,” I repeat, no longer breathy, and seconds away from coming.

No, that’s a lie.  I’m still breathy and very much seconds away from soaking my panties even more than they already are.

His large hands grab my hips, and he guides me down on his lap with no resistance from my treacherous body.

“Not what I meant,” I say through clenched teeth, trying to sound harsh and offended, but I just sound dazed and turned on.  I wiggle in his hold, trying to get free, but he’s too strong for me.

He leans up in his seat, his chest hitting my back and buries his face in my neck.  I’m sure anyone who saw us would see a loving couple who just can’t keep their hands to themselves.  He’s playing a dangerous game, though, because the second the solid, hard length of him presses against my backside, I forget this is supposed to be a game and squirm a little more.  His teeth nip at my shoulder at the same time his groan hits my ears.

“Stop moving, Wren,” he demands, tightening his fingers on my hips.

“You’re the one who put me on your lap.”  I curl my fingers over the empty seat in front of me and squeeze my eyes shut when I feel him growing harder under me.

“Yeah, because the flight attendant who just walked by had her phone out and pointed right at us.  She’s doing a shit job of making it look like she’s doing something with her paperwork.”  His hand comes off my hip, and he cups my jaw, turning my head to the side just when I was about to look up at where I last saw the attendant, forcing me to shift until all it would take is me throwing one leg over his body to be face-to-face.  “Do not look at her,” he stresses; the sudden movement of twisting my body makes me bounce slightly in his lap, rubbing my legging-clad ass against his erection.  His eyes drop to my mouth where I pull my bottom lip between my teeth and groan.

“Give me a reason not to look,” I dare him.

“You don’t want to go down that road, Wren.  I’ll protect you from the world, but you need to protect yourself from me.”

“No one is asking you to.”

Not even knowing if we’re still being watched, I twist my torso the rest of the way, pulling my legs up until they’re bent at his stomach between us.  Now that I’m facing him completely, I bring my hands up to curl them both around his shoulders before dragging them up to wrap around the corded muscles at the sides of his neck.  His nostrils flare, but he doesn’t stop me.  I give him the chance, but it never comes.  Dropping my head, I press my lips to his.  I explore his lips with small pecks and little licks of my tongue, learning his mouth before pressing more firmly.  He sucks in a breath when I open my mouth and slowly drag the tip of my tongue over his bottom lip.

And then his control snaps.

His hands—still at my hips—lift me effortlessly until my legs are no longer folded between us, but now digging into the hard armrests with my knees pushing into his thighs, my back hitting the seat in front of me.  His mouth opens, and his tongue meets mine, no hesitation whatsoever, as he deepens the kiss.

Our breathing echoes around us, making it sound like everyone on this plane could hear us, but I know it’s just because our faces are so close.  I let out a moan, one that he swallows, that turns into a whine when he pulls back.

“That can’t happen again,” he softly scolds, just as breathless as I am.

What the hell?  I might not have been into this whole fake-boyfriend-slash-bodyguard thing before, but I’ll be damned if I’m not going to take advantage of the situation.  Especially now that I know how alive he makes me feel.  Three years since I had pleasure from anything other than my own hand, and if that kiss is anything to go by, what Chance could make me feel is ten times more powerful than anything I’ve ever felt in my whole life.

I’m not passing that up.

Nope.

No fucking way.

“We’ll see about that.”

REVIEW

Jaded Hearts is the first book in Harper Sloan’s Loaded Replay series and is a spin-off of her Hope Town series. I’m a huge fan of Ms. Sloan’s, I’ve read everything she’s written, so it was a given that I’d be reading this. There is something special about a Harper Sloan alpha that never fails to make my romance reading heart happy. Always unique and individual, they share common threads of strength, protection, bravery, dominance and good looks with a bit of an edge and a complete commitment and devotion to their women. I was positively thrilled to see those core traits woven into the fabric of Chance’s character. I also noticed that this book had a definite Corps Security-esque feel to it, so readers of Sloan’s who have been saying that they hoped that this story would come from those roots got their wish.

“…fame and fortune were nowhere near anything I ever dreamed it would be like.”

I think a lot of people assume that the life of a rock star and all the trappings that come with that lifestyle would be a dream come true, but Sloan really did a great job painting the picture of the other side of the fame and fortune coin in Jaded Hearts. Years of a relentless and demanding recording and touring schedule required of them by their greedy record label have taken its toll on the members of Loaded Replay. It’s one thing after another, between appearances and interviews and the label ordering them back into the studio, and let’s not forget the little matter of the stalker fixated on Wren, the one that no one but the four members of the band is taking seriously. They’re all exhausted, and they desperately want and need a break.

“We’re cut from the same cloth, honey. Both of us wear the scars of our jaded past…”

My heart went out to the heroine, Wren, in the first few chapters. The only constant in this young woman’s life was her twin brother, Wes, and the only other genuine people around her were her bandmates, Luke and Jamison, and her best friend/stylist, Dyllan. It made for a rather lonely existence, and almost overwhelmingly, that’s exactly what I felt coming from her in those chapters. From the hurtful history of her and Wes’ childhood to the secluded, stressful existence of her present, Sloan makes it crystal clear why this young woman has become so cynical. Chance, whose experiences are different from Wren’s, has his own painful and valid reasons for being so guarded.

“…the something I’d been searching blindly for has finally been found.”

Just like Chance and Wren, I felt the attraction crackle between them from the first meeting. These two were drawn to each other in an insistent, unavoidable and undeniable way. I’ll even go so far as to say that this is about as close as you’re going to get to insta-love in a Harper Sloan novel. The thing is that these two had been through enough, they were both so beleaguered, so weary in matters of the heart, that I really wanted their connection to come easy and early. The fact of the matter is that their relationship was unconventional, and Wren said it best when she told Chance that theirs wasn’t like normal peoples’ relationships due to their circumstances, and because of that, it would advance at pace that takes most people years to attain. And, you know what, in this book, and in this situation, it worked exceptionally well. They were in sync, they were solid, and neither one of them waivered in their commitment to the other. I really liked the way that this part of the plot played out. They were just so great together – they were fun, they were sweet and they were sexy. But even more than that, they anchored each other in the storm of fame that constantly swirled around Wren, and in an industry where it doesn’t always play out that way, they recognized what they had in each other and held tight. Loved that!

“… the something I had been searching blindly for has finally been found.”

Based on their histories, both Wren and Chance came from places where drama and disappointment was often dished out to them by other people, and they were both suspicious and distrustful of others because of it. This book wasn’t short on drama, though, it’s just that it wasn’t a part of the love story portion of the plot. But what I said earlier about this book having a Corps Security feel to it holds true. The drama and angst in this book come from the suspenseful portion plot, and I liked that a whole lot. That part of the plot held my interest, hooked me right in and kept me tapping my Kindle. Ms. Sloan always does her suspense plots justice, though, so it’s no surprise that it was well done here.

“I need what you give me more than my next breath…People fight a lifetime to find this, and I had almost lost faith that I would have this.

I really enjoyed Jaded Hearts. I loved Wren and Chance both individually and as a couple, and I really liked all of the other characters. I’m very much looking forward to more in the Loaded Replay series, and Jamison’s story is next – I  can’t wait! Harper Sloan’s Jaded Hearts gets five smooches from me!

I gave her a little shove, and she fell to the mattress. She aimed a meaningful glance at my jeans, and that was all the encouragement I needed to drop them to the ground. She crawled backward, and I followed, stalking her every movement until we were flat against a bank of pillows.

“Hi,” she said, running her hand up my flank and over my shoulder. She hooked her leg around my waist and pulled me flush against her. My cock was acutely aware that only my boxers and her panties separated us, and was alternately thrilled with that situation and impatient as hell. She smiled, a little shy. “I like the way you touch me.”

“That’s good because I really enjoy touching you,” I said, bringing my lips to her neck and trailing them down between her breasts. “I didn’t want to let you go when I met you last night. Wanted to keep you all to myself.”

“Oh,” she said, her eyebrow quirking as if this was an peculiar sentiment. “I don’t think anyone’s ever wanted to keep me before.”

Fuck, she was too much. Just too much. Beautiful and rough around every edge yet vulnerable and sensitive.

“I want to keep you,” I said, sliding my fingers behind her back to unclasp her bra. “I’ll keep you as long as you let me, lovely.” Her arms moved to her chest the minute her bra went flying over my shoulder. That vulnerability? There it was again. “And I want to see you, too.”

A groan was rumbling past my lips the second her arms went around my neck and she was bared to me. I thought her tits were a crime in that t-shirt, but I had no idea. They were full and pale, and delicious. I licked and sucked as if I was trying to consume her, and maybe I was.

“Say something,” she whispered, her fingers raking through my hair. “I want…I want to know what you’re thinking.”

I released her nipple with a satisfied groan, and then dropped kisses on each of her breasts before finding her eyes. “I’m thinking get me inside you right now.”

Our lips met as my fingers inched her panties over her hips. I could take her just like this, face-to-face while I tasted her hungry hums, and I’d want for nothing.

“You probably thought I’d be crazy in bed,” she said, her words muffled as she spoke against my neck. “Like, I don’t know, adventurous and kinky. Like, I keep nipple clamps in my back pocket and actually prefer wearing thongs, and I’m always down for anal. And it’s my fault, really. This whole night has been pretty wild, and I kissed you like a maniac and then everything on the boat, and it wouldn’t be wrong to think that tequila on my tits is an average Saturday morning but—”

“It only matters what you want,” I said, tipping up her chin. “Don’t worry about what I think, or what you think I’m thinking. Tell me what you want.”

Erin’s fingers clawed at my boxers, and together we got them over my hips and out of the way. Her panties were long gone and my cock was in love with the wet heat between her legs.

“Please don’t make it hurt,” she whispered.

I shook my head and dropped a kiss on her forehead. “Never.”

Author Bio
Kate Canterbary doesn’t have it all figured out, but this is what she knows for sure: spicy-ass salsa and tequila solve most problems, living on the ocean–Pacific or Atlantic–is the closest place to perfection, and writing smart, smutty stories is a better than any amount of chocolate. She started out reporting for an indie arts and entertainment newspaper back when people still read newspapers, and she has been writing and surreptitiously interviewing people–be careful sitting down next to her on an airplane–ever since. Kate lives on the water in New England with Mr. Canterbary and the Little Baby Canterbary, and when she isn’t writing sexy architects, she’s scheduling her days around the region’s best food trucks.

Review

“There are tornadoes in my head sometimes,” I said, my words growing progressively sharper as he pushed inside me. “I know,” he said as his lips met mine. “But your storms, they don’t scare me.”

THIS BOOK!!!! Ok, so I want to tell you all the juicy details about Erin and *** (nope can’t say a name) but I am terrified of giving anything away. Everything in this book is something you the reader need to discover for yourselves. I urge you to stop reading reviews and go and read the book. Now, let me also be clear that this can be read as a standalone but I HIGHLY recommend reading this series from start to now. I know six books is a large commitment but they all beautifully play into each other and an overarching storyline follows through. You will get the best, full experience reading them all in order.

‘I didn’t have a clear vision of our future, or how we’d get there, I only knew that my compass pointed toward Erin,’

Erin Walsh is everything you expect and nothing you saw coming. She is beautiful and complex. She is delightful and frustrating. She is a grown woman and still a child. And when she meets her match it is AMAZING. Ok that is all I am going to say. This book is chocked full of Walsh secrets and Riley’s book (May 2017) cannot get here soon enough.

‘I lost my damn mind, and I was almost certain that Erin Walsh was to blame.”

Let’s just end this by saying I am in complete awe as to the power of Kate Canterbary’s brain. She is smart, and witty and writes like no one else. Her book’s are filled with depth and surprises and once you read one I guarantee you will be desperate to read them all.

Synopsis

Viola Fisher is the epitome of perfection.
She despises my one-night stands and mocks my less-than-classy habits.
She’s smart, beautiful, and too good to be true.
And I want her.

If she were anyone else, I’d have made my move years ago, but considering she’s my best friend’s little sister, she’s always been off-limits. Not to mention how much she loathes my very existence.

Hating me is her religion, but needing her is mine. Her sexy curves and filthy smart mouth make me want her even more, and I’m more determined than ever to change her mind.

I’ll prove I’m done playing games.
But until then, we’ll continue to play by her rules.
Viola Fisher may have won the battle, but the war isn’t over yet.

Checkmate, princess.

REVIEW

Travis and viola have already been through the ringer in the first book- this is war. Enemies turned friends, turned…well trying to turn into lovers but hurdles just keep getting thrown at them. In This is Love, will Travis and Viola finally be able to get rid of their mistrust and overcome all the obstacles in their way to be together?

“We have a history—a damaged one—but nevertheless, a history that has bonded us together since we were kids. The more I think about it, the more I want to punch myself for every sting I blew her way.”

We are thrown straight back into Travis’s and Viola’s turbulent relationship and pick up straight from where This is War ends and we know from this that there is still a tough road for these two to travel before they can accept that they truly belong together.

“You want to watch Bridget Jones’ Diary with me?” I swallow my words of disdain and plaster on a cocky grin. “Yeah, of course. BJ’s my homegirl.” She bursts out laughing, her head falling back as a sweet roar releases from her throat.”

Travis and Viola were both characters I really enjoyed reading about in the first book and I loved them even more in this book! Travis was so adorable in this book- definitely showing us his more emotional and vulnerable side and really wanting to prove to Viola that he only wanted her and that he was worthy of her. Yet he still kept his sexy side and the chemistry with Viola was off the charts!

“Over the years, he’s whittled away at my heart, and has finally carved a path straight through the middle. I hope to God this never ends.”

Viola was a lot stronger in this book I believed. She was more confident and wasn’t taking any s**t from anyone- she was determined and it was nice to read about such a passionate woman! And of course I LOVED her slightly nerdy side and her love of books!

“No one will ever be able to take this away from us, because what we have is more than a stupid crush or a one-night stand. It’s real.”

One of the things I enjoyed most in the first book was the banter between Travis and Viola and book two didn’t disappoint at all- their relationship grows and develops a lot in this one but they still have that undeniable connection that I think is built on the fact that these two laugh together so much and can make fun of each other all in the name of making each other laugh. We have the tears, drama, chemistry, laughter – everything to that I loved in the first book and that we get to see these two grow so much not only in their relationship but within their own personalities. It was honestly captivating to read, they were such loveable and relatable characters.

“You were always the girl.” “And you were always the boy, Travis King.”

This was a great finish for a beautiful couple and they for the ending they deserved and the ending I had been hoping for throughout. I love that we are going to read more from the characters in this duet series and I hope we get to catch up with Travis and Viola and see how they are getting on.

Logan

Her ankle turns, and Kass starts to fall. One swift move, and I scoop her up, into my arms.

“Oh!” she cries, gripping my biceps.

Her soft body is pressed against me, and her face is right at my chin. Her breath comes in quick pants, causing her breasts to rise and fall just beneath the thin material of her dress. With her sweater pushed back, I can see she’s not wearing a bra, and all the lust I’ve been fighting shoots straight to my cock.

I know she feels it. Her lids lower, and her eyes are trained on my mouth. Her lips part, and I can just see the tips of her white teeth when she speaks, low and breathless. “Thank you.”

Desire overrules my brain, and I don’t stop myself. I pull her to me, covering her mouth with mine. It’s not a gentle kiss. It’s rough and punishing. It’s all the anger and the hurt and the worry she’s put me through these last days.

She meets me with equal strength. Her mouth moves with mine, and she tastes like mint and cool water. A little noise aches from her throat and fuck me, my dick gets harder. She’s soft in my arms, and my stomach fills with warmth, desire, possession.

How can I still want her so badly? She used me.

Breaking our lips apart, I look up at the sky. It’s thick with grey, swirling clouds. It mirrors the storm in my chest.

Kass’s forehead drops to my neck. She’s panting, and I feel her beaded nipples against my chest. I want to pull them into my mouth and suck them until she moans. I want to lower my pants and lift her skirt. I want to shove her panties aside and fuck her right here on this beach. I want it to be hard and angry. I want her begging me to forgive her, begging me for more.

I can see the whole thing, and it takes all my willpower to step back.

“I’m sorry.” I hold her arms until I’m sure she has her balance, until I’m back in control. “I’ll escort you to the house.”

“Yes.” Her voice is breathless.

The Dead Come Calling by C.C. Wood Release Blitz

I’m Zoe Thorne and I speak to the dead. Unfortunately, dead isn’t always synonymous with good-natured. In fact, most of the spirits I meet have dirty minds and a tendency to create mischief and mayhem.

For the past two months, I’ve been traveling with the cast of The Wraith Files, a paranormal investigation web show. Stony and Blaine are like the perverted, annoying brothers I never had. Our boss, Malachi Flemming, well, he makes my heart beat faster and my hormones dance.

During a break from filming, I’ve returned home to my resident ghost, Teri, an exotic dancer who died thirty years ago. I’m on a mission to find the man who murdered her and see that justice is served.

Preoccupied with my search for a killer, I’m unaware that something dark and twisted lies in wait for me. Not one, but two faceless entities intent on terrorizing me before moving in for the kill.

With unseen enemies shadowing my every move, it’s time to discover how deep my abilities run. I need every bit of power I possess…or I’ll be taking my place among the dead.
