More Then Friends by Monica Murphy Chapter Reveal
More than Friends ~ Monica Murphy
Chapter 1 reveal
Chapter One
Amanda
I’m cruising on my bike, contemplating everything Livvy just told me. How her mom was so mad when she discovered Livvy had spent the night at Ryan’s house, she grounded her and took away her phone. Livvy is seriously going to lose her mind being grounded for so long, unable to see Ryan unless we’re at school. That won’t be enough for her. When it comes to Ryan, it feels like nothing is ever enough for her.
At least I’m not in trouble like she is.
Liv’s going to stress out over Ryan, though. Over those hours when she’s not with him and he could possibly be up to no good. She worries about him all the time. I get it—sort of. He seems to play games, and that must get exhausting.
Truthfully, I wouldn’t put up with that crap. But I’m not Livvy.
Thank goodness.
The wind blows through my hair as I make a right into my neighborhood, turning the wild strands into a tangled mess. Not that I care. There’s no one I’m hoping to impress. It’ll just be Sunday night dinner with the family, as usual. I’m not even sure if they’re home yet. Dad mentioned something about going to Home Depot to pick out fall flowers for the yard, and Mom said something about shower curtains and Bed, Bath & Beyond.
Bleh. I’m glad I made my escape when I did.
My house slowly comes into view and I smile to myself. I might not live in a giant mansion in a fancy neighborhood like my new so-called friends, but our house is nice. Small and on the older side, but it’s cute, with a pretty front yard and a big porch with a white swing…
Oh. Crap. There’s someone sitting on the swing. His arms are spread out along the back of the wooden frame, his gaze locked directly on me, like he knew I was going to appear at any second.
It’s Jordan Tuttle.
My heart is racing as I press gently on the brakes, taking him in, my gaze roving over every single tiny feature that makes him Jordan. I want to slow down the moment, revel in the anticipation of finding him waiting for me. He rises to his feet, runs a hand over his thick, perfect hair almost nervously, and a shuddery breath leaves me.
The memory hits me, socks me in the stomach and leaves me aching. I remember what it felt like, having those hands on me just last night. His mouth on mine, the words he whispered in my ear. It wasn’t a dream. It wasn’t something I made up inside my head, because seriously, I was starting to wonder if I really was losing my mind when it came to Jordan Tuttle.
But no. Jordan is real. He’s in my life because he wants to be here for some crazy reason. And now he’s waiting for me, his hands on his hips, the faintest smile on his face as he continues to watch me.
“What are you doing here?” I ask as I make my approach, hopping off my bike so I can roll it up the front walkway.
We meet in the middle, Jordan stopping just in front of me. “Nice way to greet me.”
I frown, worried I was doing everything wrong. He had a way of making me feel like that. “How should I greet you?”
“Like this.” His hand is suddenly curled around my nape when he pulls me in for a too-quick yet somehow lingering kiss. My lips tingle when he pulls away, and by the smug expression on his face, I know he knows the effect he has on me.
“Jordan,” I chastise, stepping away from him and nearly tripping over my stupid bike. Luckily enough, he catches me by the elbow, steadying me before I fall over like an idiot. “What if my parents are inside?”
“They’re not.” He grabs the bike from me, nudges the kickstand down and sets it in place on the sidewalk a few feet away from us. “Where’ve you been?”
His confidence makes me crazy. He’s so sure of himself, and I wish I had even an ounce of his self-assuredness.
I don’t. Not even close. He lives in another realm. I’m just a lowly peon compared to His Majesty, Lord Jordan Tuttle.
“I went over to Livvy’s,” I tell him when I realize he’s waiting for my answer. As usual, my mind wanders when I’m in his presence. “I wanted to make sure she’s okay.”
Jordan frowns. “She is, right?”
“Oh yeah, her mom just grounded her for life.” When he sends me a come on face, I readjust. “Fine, she’s grounded for a couple weeks. No phone. No Ryan.”
“It might do her some good, the no Ryan thing,” he mutters.
I say nothing. I don’t understand the relationship he has with Ryan. They’re friends. Then they’re not. They’re teammates always, and that’s something Jordan has to deal with no matter what.
“What are you up to right now?” I ask, hoping to change the subject.
He smiles. Reaches out to tuck a wayward strand of hair behind my ear. I feel that innocent touch all the way down to my toes, which are currently curling in my battered white Converse. “I want to take you out.”
My mouth drops open. “In public?”
The frown is back. It’s not fair, how attractive he still is despite the scowl he’s currently wearing. “Of course in public. What the hell, Mandy.”
I shrug, my cheeks burning with embarrassment. “We haven’t actually been seen together.”
He grabs my hand and pulls me in close. My body immediately goes hot and I wonder if he has some sort of powerful force field I can’t resist. “I want to change that.”
My gaze meets his and I can’t look away. He’s so sincere. So serious. “What happened between us last night was…”
“Real.” He kisses me again. Another brief brush of lips on lips, yet I’m decimated. Shaky all over when he pulls away. When my ex Thad kissed me, I never felt like this. Ever.
Never.
Ever.
Never.
“Maybe we were just caught up in a moment?” I ask tentatively. It’s like I’m always waiting for the bomb to drop. For the joke to be on me. No one in a million years would ever match me with Jordan Tuttle. Not even me. So what’s his deal? Why is he so persistent? I don’t get it.
I like it, but he also scares me. I don’t want to get hurt.
I don’t want my heart to be broken.
“Every time I’m near you, I get caught up in a moment.” One side of his perfect mouth tips up in this semi-smile that is absolutely adorable. I wish I had my phone out so I could snap a pic of him. “Maybe we need to give this a try and see if all we ever experience together is one giant moment.”
“That’s impossible.” The words are out before I can stop them and I slap my hand over my mouth, my eyes wide as I stare up at him.
Jordan actually laughs, shaking his head. It’s a rare sound, but wow, is it amazing. “Nothing’s impossible if you want it bad enough.”
I drop my hand, gaping up at him. “So are you saying that you want—me?”
“Yes.” He dips his head, his mouth hovering above mine. “I do.”

TRUMAN GRITT LOCKED the door to Whiskey Automotive and stepped into the stormy September night. Sheets of rain blurred his vision, instantly drenching his jeans and T-shirt. A slow smile crept across his face as he tipped his chin up, soaking in the shower of freedom. He made his way around the dark building and climbed the wooden stairs to the deck outside his apartment. He could have used the interior door, but after being behind bars for six long years, Truman took advantage of the small pleasures he’d missed out on, like determining his own schedule, deciding when to eat and drink, and standing in the f**king rain if he wanted to. He leaned on the rough wooden railing, ignoring the splinters of wood piercing his tattooed forearms, squinted against the wetness, and scanned the cars in the junkyard they used for parts—and he used to rid himself of frustrations. He rested his leather boot on the metal box where he kept his painting supplies. Truman didn’t have much—his old extended-cab truck, which his friend Bear Whiskey had held on to for him while he was in prison, this apartment, and a solid job, both of which were compliments of the Whiskey family. The only family he had anymore.
Emotions he didn’t want to deal with burned in his gut, causing his chest to constrict. He turned to go inside, hoping to outrun thoughts of his own f**ked-up family, whom he’d tried—and failed—to save. His cell phone rang with his brother’s ringtone, “A Beautiful Lie” by 30 Seconds to Mars.
“F**k,” he muttered, debating letting the call go to voicemail, but six months of silence from his brother was a long time. Rain pelleted his back as he pressed his palm to the door to steady himself. The ringing stopped, and he blew out a breath he hadn’t realized he’d trapped inside. The phone rang again, and he froze.
He’d just freed himself from the dredges of hell that he’d been thrown into in an effort to save his brother. He didn’t need to get wrapped up in whatever mess the drug-addicted fool had gotten himself into. The call went to voicemail, and Truman eyed the metal box containing his painting supplies. Breathing like he’d been in a fight, he wished he could paint the frustration out of his head. When the phone rang for the third time in as many minutes, the third time since he was released from prison six months ago, he reluctantly answered.
“Quincy.” He hated the way his brother’s name came out sounding like the enemy. Quincy had been just a kid when Truman went to prison. Heavy breathing filled the airwaves. The hairs on Truman’s forearms and neck stood on end. He knew fear when he heard it. He could practically taste it as he ground his teeth together.
“I need you,” his brother’s tortured voice implored.
Need me? Truman had hunted down his brother after he was released from prison, and when he’d finally found him, Quincy was so high on crack he was nearly incoherent—but it didn’t take much for f**k off to come through loud and clear. What Quincy needed was rehab, but Truman knew from his tone that wasn’t the point of the call.
Before he could respond, his brother croaked out, “It’s Mom. She’s really bad.”

REVIEW
When Truman’s life is turned upside down and he finds himself in he shopping aisle with his newly discovered baby brother and toddler sister, having just rescued them from what could only have been an awful life so far, an awful life he was subjected to, the last thing he expects is to run into a young woman called Gemma- he doesn’t turn away from his more than rough appearance, but instead helps him get all the right things for his new charges. But with now having to care for two young siblings and his haunted past- will Gemma stick around to more than just help with the children? Or will his past, the children or Truman’s brother be the things that push her away?
“Because you’re so in love with your brother and sister it practically drips off of you, and I like that in a person. Love and loyalty aren’t easy to find, especially in siblings.”
I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this story. Ah all the feels, the happy, emotional, beautiful feels. I adored all the main characters, Truman, Gemma and not forgetting the cuteness that was Kennedy and the adorable Lincoln.
“Truman Gritt was hard, he was tattooed, and he looked like he hadn’t shaved in weeks. He was all the things she never thought she’d want, and in two days he’d shown her that none of those things mattered.”
I can wax lyrical about Truman and how much I loved him. His rough exterior and the fact his past has left him a bit haunted didn’t deter from the fact that as soon as he finds his siblings, he is the most caring, loving and determined big brother, who will do anything to protect Kennedy and Lincoln, no matter how long or how hard it will be.
“I never thought I needed anyone, but I’m starting to think I was just waiting for you.”
Gemma is just as easily likeable, even lovable! How easily she jumps into help Truman, despite have some worries about who he is and why the children are in a shopping mall late at night with no shoes. She is there for Truman and the children throughout and the way she wants to help and care for them- you can see why she has always wanted to be a mother.
“In a perfect world,” she said softly. “We both would have had loving parents, and you never would have faced what you did. We didn’t grow up in a perfect world, but you’re my perfect.”
Oh my goodness and Kennedy and Lincoln- just the cutest babies- even Lincoln who can’t even speak yet. And Kennedy’s shy but cute personality!! I love how we see her come out of her shell bit by bit.
“It was an intoxicating and territorial kiss. A kiss that said, You are mine and I am yours. It was the kiss she hadn’t realized she’d been waiting for her whole life.”
Even though this seems like quite a simple plot at first- the beauty of Truman looking after his new siblings and learning everything he has to do to care of him, alongside him and Gemma learning if they belong together and how to make it work…even though we still had drama with Truman’s brother and throughout you are worrying about how Truman will keep the children, you really didn’t need much more because this was such a beautiful read. It was honestly one of my favourite reads this year! And I can’t wait for a re-read in a few weeks time!

Holding Out For A Hero by Codi Gary Review
4 Smooches
Synopsis
He wasn’t looking for love…
Two years after the death of his wife, Sergeant Blake Kline is still hurting. He isn’t ready to date, but whenever he stops by his local diner and sees the friendly smile of his favorite waitress, he feels a spark of true happiness again. And when her life is unexpectedly threatened, Blake discovers his feelings for her might not be as platonic as he thought.
She was holding out for the hero of her dreams…
Bookworm Hannah York has always been a hopeless romantic—preferring book boyfriends to blind dates—and she’s been day-dreaming about Blake since the moment he came into her diner. She’s convinced they’ll never be more than friends… until Blake kisses her and “weak in the knees” becomes more than just a line from her favorite romance novel. The closer Blake and Hannah get, however, the harder he fights to keep her at a distance.
But forever has a way of sneaking up on you…
When their blossoming relationship takes a complicated turn, Blake will have to face his past… or risk losing Hannah forever.
Review
Holding Out For A Hero by Codi Gary is the newest full length stand alone in the Men In Uniform series. This is a series that I have fallen for and it is no wonder. When you mix strong sassy heroines, hunky alpha males and an abundance of dogs how do you not fall in love.
Holding Out For A Hero revolves around widower Blake and innocent bookworm Hannah. Blake is not the easiest man to love, he makes Hannah work for it constantly but she is relentless and never gives up on him and the possibility of a them. I adored Hannah. She wore her heart on her sleeve and never allowed anyone to make her feel like she was unworthy. She even manages to make perpetual grumpy Blake smile, laugh and let go. But Blake comes with the worst form of baggage and it may be more than even she can handle.
‘This attraction to Hannah seemed like a betrayal to Jenny, and he hated it.’
A sweet romance with touches of humor, sexiness and tension Holding Out For A Hero is a, easy read that is easy to get lost in. While third person is not my personal favorite but Codi’s writing makes it easy to read and fall into the story. You will love watching Blake and Hannah fall in love and learn to cope with the past.

Review
Sassy, strong, confident and vibrant Maggie is all about control, especially when it comes to men. She is not shy and will go after a man if she likes him. And on New Years she sets her sights on Keen. An explosive encounter with these two soon turns into a disaster when Keen’s life suddenly changes and he shuts down. When Keen and Maggie meet again will Keen be able to work hard enough to show to Maggie he is worth a second chance? Or will Maggie ignore the explosive chemistry between them and be the one to walk away?
“All or nothing. It’s all or nothing.”
I have read a few books from Kim Karr and she is one of my favourite authors for these fun, flirty, funny romances with two exciting characters who have fiery chemistry and are able to bounce off each other so well. Bed Wrecker was no different and I was hooked pretty much from the get go!
“For the first time ever, I’m not certain about what to do. My entire life has been about action. Make a decision, execute the plan, and don’t stop until it’s complete. Everything has been so cut and dry. Even with women. And now I’m stumbling on my words, uncertain of what to say.”
Maggie has to be one of my favourite heroines who I liked from the first page! She is so sassy and strong and confident in all aspects including when it comes to men and knowing what she wants! She was so refreshing and fun to read about.
“By the blood dripping down my back, I wouldn’t say angel, and devil is pushing it. I’m going with bedwrecker, just like the song says.”
Keen was also a really easy character to fall in love with. When we first meet him he has his cocky and confident persona on show which gave off such a sexy vibe but as the story goes on will also get in touch with his more sensitive, emotional and vulnerable side which makes him relatable.
“I love when you talk like you’re the one in control,” he laughs, and I know he’s back. Keen Masters, the man in control, is back.”
These two not only had explosive chemistry, their whole relationship is explosive. We go through so many ups and downs, happy and sad, funny and thoughtful, moments with these two. Kim always creates such laughter with her characters but these two were also really put through the ringer. The explosive meeting, the sad separation, the surprising reconnection and all the surprises and drama that comes after means we are really kept questioning whether Keen and Maggie will be able to move past their issues and see that the two of them together is meant to happen.

Synopsis
The thing about hitting rock bottom…
Ridley doesn’t think he has anything left to lose, not after the life he’s lived. Then he meets her, Freya Capone, the nurse who saves his life when the last thing he wants is to be saved.
One look at her, and he’s transfixed.
He doesn’t know what drives him to run by her house that night. Intuition. Sixth sense. Whatever it is, his gut screams at him to go, so he goes.
And thank God he does.
There isn’t any farther you can fall…
Freya hits bottom after her brother’s death. Her rock. Her best friend. Her everything. Gone.
She always knew it was a possibility that he might get hurt while on shift, but she never entertains the thought of him dying. Not until it’s too late.
She literally has nothing else to lose. Until she meets him. Ridley Walker. A biker with The Uncertain Saints MC and a local sheriff’s deputy.
The man responsible for taking away her best friend.
But at least you have a solid foundation to build upon…
The last thing Freya wants is to fall in love with the man responsible for her brother’s death. She doesn’t want to care that he is nearly killed. She doesn’t want to have anything to do with him.
But she can’t stay away.
And neither can he.
