Synopsis

Zoe
I’m not interested. I’m not interested in his blue-green ocean colored eyes, his lean muscular body, or that crooked smile that can be so infuriating. I have more important things to worry about, like how to keep myself in college and my sixteen year old brother fed and sheltered. We all know life is hard, some of us just learn that lesson younger than others, but that doesn’t mean I’ll give up. I intend to succeed and make sure my brother has the opportunities he deserves, and no privileged jerk is going to distract me.

Landon
I don’t date. Don’t get me wrong, I’m far from celibate, but my condition makes carrying on any kind of normal relationship impossible. My life revolves around In Safe Hands or ISH, the underground hacker group I work with to track down and take care of predators and sex offenders who beat the system. I’m satisfied with my life until the day I meet the smart mouthed, compassionate, determined woman who opens my eyes to possibilities I never thought existed.

This is book one in a series of standalone novels.

Review

Landon is the first standalone in the new In Safe Hand’s series by S.M. Shade. I have read many of her previous books and I always enjoy her stories. The highlight of Landon for me was the heroine, Zoe. She left her evangelical parents as soon as she could and has been surviving on her own until her gay brother gets kicked out at just 15. Even though she is struggling to survive while in college she never hesitates to take him in. She is admirable and strong. When Landon comes on too strong when she meets him at the club she doesn’t do what so many women in romance novels do, which is fall for the overly sexualized one liner. Instead she high tails it out of there and grabs a cab home. She never expect to walk into a job interview for a house keeping position only to find him as her new boss. But he is full of secrets and not ready to share.

‘He completely devastates me with just one kiss, and the smug grin on his lips when we break apart says he knows exactly how he affected me.’

Overall, this was a good start to a sexy and suspenseful new series. I really enjoyed these two characters and I am very much intrigued by the other characters who have been introduced to us, especially Justus. I did find a few parts rushed and the story got a bit darker than I was expecting but neither hindered my ability to thoroughly enjoy the book. Landon was all alpha male, just like I like them! Him and Zoe meshed wonderfully and together they sparked.

Review

“You’re going to destroy me, Wyatt.”

WOW! I finished this book early this morning and am forcing myself to sit and write the review when honestly I probably need more time to reflect on the beautiful story I just read. First, let me explain that I have not read Say You’ll Stay even though I was hopeful I would have the time before this one. Sadly, I was not able to squeeze it in and instead opted to read this one as a complete standalone, though I do have every intention of going back asap and reading it. I want to let others who might be considering reading this as a standalone know that while the characters from the other book are heavily in this story I had zero problem following along and never felt like I was missing something. This book was beautiful, fun, touching, heart wrenching and simply just amazing. I fell hard for Wyatt from the start and even at his worst I couldn’t help but be head over heels for him.

‘I should have told her I love her. I should’ve done so many fucking things. But I failed.’

After a night of passion months ago in which Angie woke up alone and dismissed she returns home to Philadelphia. She knows when to turn in the towel and it was clear that her time with him was just meant to be between the sheets. Both two months have passed and she when she finds out that she is pregnant with his child she returns to Bell Buckle to give this thing with him a fair shot. But can two people in their late thirties change their lone wolf ways and actually succeed at a relationship?

‘It’s not a test of love when things are good. It’s how you handle things when times are bad.’

I have so many emotions to sort through I am not even sure where to start so I guess I’ll just start at the beginning. The first half or more of this book was sweet, swoony and fun. Wyatt and Angie are thrown together because of the pregnancy but from the start it is clear that there is more there. It is impossible not to love Wyatt. He is romantic and protective and goes out of his way to may Angie happy. He knows he is asking a lot of her to leave her business and comfortable life in the city to move to the country but he is determined to make her want just that and he is not afraid to pull out all the stops in his pursuit. Now the last bit of the book is what shook all I thought I knew for a loop. It was beautiful while being emotionally draining. I am not one known to cry actual tears while reading. I tend to get emotional but I don’t cry so imagine my surprise when I realize I am full on bawling. It was hard and these two strong and loving people are tested in the worst way possible and yet I loved every second of it. Corinne’s writing was gripping and emotional and she blew me away. I knew I loved her books and this one has just completely cemented her as a favorite writer for me.

EXCERPT
Approaching and observing an enemy who was always surrounded by other people who were in the limelight—each with their own security detail—required a shit ton of finesse. Utilizing long-distance observation equipment only got me so far with Alexander Bellamy. I needed a valid reason for a closer approach, and I was determined to find it at this damn party. Almost two hours into it, and I still hadn’t managed to get within spitting distance. But from the way his attention suddenly shifted towards the stage when they announced the next socialite up for bidding, I had a feeling I might have found a way to catch his interest.
Switching my focus in the same direction, I quickly understood his fascination. The girl on the stage was hot, no doubt about it. The innocence shining from her eyes and the blush on her cheeks was an intriguing contradiction to the lushness of her lips and the curves outlined by her tight, black lace dress. When the woman at the microphone who was running the auction circled her finger at her and the girl swiveled on her black stilettos, I felt like I’d been punched in the solar plexus. My breath caught in my lungs at the sight of her bare back. All those inches of skin revealed as the dress dipped down to just above the cheeks of her ass—I didn’t want anyone else to enjoy the sight but me.
The sound of my target’s voice ringing out with the highest bid of the night filled me with horror as I pictured the beauty on the stage ending up dead like the girl in the alley. There was no way in hell I was going to let him get his hands on her and destroy the innocence shining from her eyes. I’d kill him before that happened—but I’d much prefer that waited until I confirmed there wasn’t anyone higher up in the trafficking ring than him. Until then, I just had to figure out a way to keep her out of Bellamy’s orbit. Starting with outbidding him for the date with her he was about to win. Lucky for me, wiping scum of the face of the planet paid well.
“A quarter of a million dollars.”
Very well, judging by the crowd’s gasp and the stunned look of surprise on the girl’s face. Strategically, it was either brilliant or the stupidest decision I’d ever made. But it was a go big or go home moment. Bellamy had deep pockets, and I didn’t want to waste time dicking around with outbidding each other. Making a statement, in a big way, was the most efficient route to avoiding all the back and forth. It also achieved two goals—it garnered me a date with the gorgeous girl on stage and ensured I ended up on Bellamy’s radar. If I’d read his interest right, my prey might very well end up coming to me.
I practically felt the death glare he was sending my way, and I couldn’t resist swiveling my head and flashing him a smug grin as the auctioneer counted down.
“Two hundred fifty thousand, going once. Two hundred fifty thousand, going twice. Sold!”
Bellamy’s eyes narrowed, promising retribution from me for stealing away his prize. My smile widened because I was pleased as fuck about my upcoming date—and because I knew it would piss Bellamy off even more. Reluctantly, I tore my gaze away from his and headed towards the stage, but all of my reluctance was swept away the moment I was looking at her again.

Review

Rochelle Paige is one of my go to authors when I want something fun, sexy and suspenseful. Sell Your Soul hit all those marks and then some. I have read all the books in this steamy novella series and Sell Your Soul might just be my favorite yet. When Vaughn encounters Carissa at a bachelorette auction in which he is investigating a human trafficker he knows his whole outlook is changed for the beautiful and innocent Carissa.

‘No matter how much I wanted her, no matter how fucking delicious she tasted when I’d kissed her — I needed to remember that Carissa Hastings wasn’t for the likes of me.’

For me what Rochelle excels at is mixing in suspense with your typical sexy read making for something unique and different. Her men are alpha and her women are sassy. I had so much fun reading this story and am looking forward to more from  Rochelle in the future.

Holidays conjure up many thoughts- long, chilly nights, snuggled up by the fire, bare feet tucked under the one you love. Some are hallmarks of summer when skin is warmed by more than the sun. There is the after Thanksgiving dinner nightcap, as the smooth, sultry burn of whiskey warms your chest, rendering your limbs heavy or include lazy kisses and wandering hands beneath your best dress on a romantic Valentine’s Day date.

But sometimes, Grandma gets boozed up and passes out at the table, your brother gets caught rubbing one out under the fireworks, your kids catch mommy kissing Santa (and not on the lips), your special new toy winds up in the wrong gift bag, a goat steals and wears your sexy new thong and watching the ball drop takes on a whole new meaning.

In other words, the holidays can be magical, but sometimes, they’re also just f*cking awkward.

Synopsis

There’s a first time for everything.

Lark Wainwright used to be fearless. Her life was a series of adventures, each one more exhilarating than the last. But her recent overseas adventure was one too many. Now she’s home and in one piece. Mostly. But her nights are filled with terror.

When her best friend offers her a stay at the orchard in exchange for help at the farmers’ markets, Lark jumps at the chance to spend fall in Vermont. But her nightmares don’t stop. Desperate to keep her fragile state a secret, she relies on the most soft-spoken resident of the Shipley Farm to soothe her when her dreams prove too much.

Zachariah is a survivor, too. It’s been four years since he was tossed aside by the polygamist cult where he grew up. He’s found a peaceful existence on the Shipley’s farm, picking apples and fixing machinery. But getting thrown away by your own people at nineteen leaves a mark on a guy. He doesn’t always know what to make of a world where movie quotes are the primary means of communication. Before hitchhiking to Vermont, he’d never watched TV or spoken on the phone.

Actually, there are a lot of things he’s never done.

Zach and Lark slowly grow to trust one another. One night they become even closer than they’d planned. But Lark may still be too broken to trust anyone. When she pushes Zach away, he will have to prove to himself that he’s good for much more than farm labor.

Review

‘She looked vivid, as if God had painted her features with bolder paints than he used on the rest of the world.’

Ya’ll!!! This story blew me away. Having read the other two books in the series I was already aware that I enjoyed Sarina’s writing style and her stories but this book took that love to a whole new level. There is a stark contrast to the lifestyles, personalities and demeanors of Lark and Zach; but there is also somethings eerily similar in the hardships they each must overcome. They understand and comfort one another and together they make something truly beautiful.

‘Maybe I spent the first twenty-three years of my life without touching anyone, but Lark had changed me. I craved the contact.’

Fans of the series will be happy to have the entire Shipley clan back together for another apple picking season and joining them in the orchards this time is May’s best friend, Lark. Lark has always been outgoing and carefree but after a work trip to Guatemala goes horribly wrong she is left damaged and broken. Now her dreams are tormented by memories of what she witnessed and the only way out of them seems to be Zach’s comforting touch and smooth voice. This man she barely knows but is insanely drawn too feels so right but their timing is so wrong. Zach is insanely sweet and a touch innocent. Despite all he has never done in life, having grown up in and being kicked out of an polygamist cult, he is all man if you know what I mean. Zach is why romance authors write book. PERFECTION. I loved every moment with him and in the end the worst part was that my time with him was over.

‘I hadn’t known that holding her in my arms was a privilege I’d soon have to give up.’

Keepsake is a standalone novel but I do encourage you to give all the couples in the True North series a go. They are each uniquely wonderful but Lark and Zach are it for me. I went from swooning, to laughing, to heart-aching with tears streaming down my face emotional and I loved each new moment I got with this book and this entire cast of characters.

“Leave it,” I whispered as her phone rang from her tiny purse that lay discarded on the floor, groaning and pushing her deeper into the wall before sucking the peak of her nipple into my mouth.

We were in the trenches of my favorite two-person activity, and I had absolutely no desire to add a third—especially knowing whoever was on the other end of her phone wasn’t a model for Victoria’s Secret.

Relax. I’m mostly joking.

I’d been working diligently at the removal of each and every piece of her clothing for the last five or so minutes, but we were so desperate to keep our mouths on one another, the process had been slow going and she’d yet to have the chance to reciprocate.

I couldn’t help it, though, and I didn’t mind that I still wore my clothes. Her skin was like a flavor, one I swore had been specifically designed for me by Baskin Robbins, and her nipples were like the cherries on top. Deep red from my attention and perfectly delicious.

But the bleating of her phone threatened to pop my flawless pleasure bubble.

And I was in no way ready to stop.
