REVIEW

So whenever I read an Alessandra Torre book it always takes me a a few chapters to get used to her writing style.  I like to say that she writes like a serial killer.  I mean, the woman’s writing is so stabby and purposeful.  It is like she leans over every few paragraphs and slaps you with a word and it is kind of shocking and uncomfortable.  I say all of this in love because I adore her writing, her stories, and I even enjoy the way her words rough me up a little.

I guess with Moonshot I didn’t expect the stabbiness.  The cover was so gorgeously NA and sweet.  It tricked me because this one was definitely the usual forbidden thriller that you get with this authors books but it did have that sweet NA first love bit that I was so excited for.  And the sports romance part of this book was just done so brilliantly.  You can tell the author really knows her baseball or she did a crap load of research.  Because I felt like I was at the game fetching balls with Ty!  I was sitting in the box along side her watching her Yankees.  I love a sports romance where you actually get to witness the sports aspect.  So many authors write about football players and we never even get to even “go to” a football game.

“I love you because when I see you, I can’t stop starting at you.” 

To top off all of the amazing aspects of this book, the sexual tension was amazing.  Which I personally love a book where the sex builds and we have to wait.  And boy is it worth the wait.  Because Chase was so incredibly alpha and forceful.

“This is a dying man’s taste,”

“This is me reminding you of what we have.”

Basically what I am saying is, this book had it all!  It was New Adult.  It was sports romance.  It was beyond sexy.  It had all of the drama and feelings. It even had a thriller aspect thrown in.  EVERYTHING.  This book had everything.  One of my absolute favorites of this author.  It is a must read!

Her post-graduation plan is to stay in LA to pursue a career in music, continue her studies with a music-related degree, and she is very much looking forward to the internship opportunity of a lifetime that she has beat one thousand other applicants for with a well-known recording industry producer. Not to mention that LA also appeals to her because it’s far away from her mother, and well, it’s also where Colby Singer, her longtime friend and crush, lives. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that her mother is on board with her plans, as she drops a bomb on McKenzie that has the potential to totally upend her life.

Their biggest concern is the dreaded reaction that a relationship between the two of them will garner from her older brother, Brian, and Colby’s older brother, Josh, given Colby’s reputation.

My voice broke. “We can work through this, but walking away right now would be a mistake.”

Weeks go by and they grow closer and fall into a comfortable routine, both inevitably falling harder and deeper in love with the other. But McKenzie is growing weary of the secret-keeping, while Colby is concerned about timing the relationship reveal properly. A slip up on a group engagement trip to Vegas solves that problem for them, though, and Colby’s worst fears are realized. Will Brian and Josh see him for the man he is now or will they be unable to see past the man he once was? Can Colby ever get past the embarrassment of his youthful indiscretions and allow himself to believe he’s worthy of McKenzie’s love or will he make the biggest mistake of his life by letting that guilt and shame over his past eclipse his future?

Bet Me Something is the third book in Bondurant’s Something series, and I have loved each one. Bondurant bills her writing style as Adult Contemporary Erotic Romantic Comedy—or smutty chick lit—and those descriptions describe her work perfectly. She blends comedy and conflict effortlessly in this book, intertwining it amongst a very sexy romance. I can say unequivocally that the first kiss scene between McKenzie and Colby is in my top five favorite first kisses of all time – it was brilliant!! It’s those little surprise plot twists and turns that Bondurant casually tosses in to her stories that keep readers on their toes and turning the pages. As a fan of all of her works, I can say that I happily go into one of her books not knowing what to expect but confident that I’ll get exactly what I want.

“This right here is my center. The outside world tries to tilt us, or I accidentally do it, and being together puts us back where we need to be.”

Bondurant’s writing is on point, her characters are endearing and her creativity in spinning a friendship into a passionate love story is remarkable. Aubrey Bondurant is an author whose name should be on every romantic comedy fan’s TBR. I’m already anxiously awaiting the next book in this series, and I’m looking forward even to what will follow that. I absolutely adored Bet Me Something, and it gets 5 smooches from me.

Nicole is a funny, sweet, caring, beautiful young woman. She’s loved by many and although she has her admirers, she will never get committed to anyone, just fun and easy encounters. Because the main person in her life is her brother, he depends on her and she will do anything and everything for him. But things might be about to change when sexy, but known playboy, football star, James Martin, walks up to her counter. Nicole can’t stop thinking that maybe she wants more than just one passionate night….maybe a lot more?

“It felt like I had been waiting for this moment for years, instead of only a few hours.”

This was a really fun, flirty, sexy, romance with some really cute aspects added that made it slightly different to the norm. I’ve always loved sports romances and this was no different!

“One night stands were one night. That was the rule. No repeats. No Exceptions.”

Nicole was honestly one of the loveliest female characters I have read. You could see why so many loved her and her dedication to support and help her brother was so beautiful to read. I actually also really liked her love em and leave em attitude, it was refreshing for a woman to be like that rather than a man; think it showed she confident on her own and didn’t need a man to make her happy.

“Why not indulge in a fantasy I had at my fingertips? Would another night with James really be so bad? After all, it was just s*x.”

James was our sexy, cocky, confident, British sports star. I really liked James, I liked that even though he had a reputation as a a bit of a player, really he wasn’t and his reputation was worse than the reality. When he sees that Nicole is trying to leave him behind, he ups his game and his charm and I loved that he chased after her, wanted to prove himself and fight for her. It was good to see him wanting to look after her, after Nicole has always looked after others before herself.

“The perfect one night stand shows up just as I’m ready to try the whole dating thing. Just my f**king luck.”

This was just a fun, easy read. With a really captivating and entertaining relationship between the two main characters and some good dynamics between others in the story. It was also fun to read about the guy chasing the girl. It had some lovely heart warming moments, some tear jerking moments, definitely some sexy, hot, scenes and some interesting plot surprises which kept the story flowing nicely!

“The firework is lit, but never explodes.”

The Holiday’s series by Tara Sivec is a fun and silly series and this newest book, The Firework Exploded is no different. Now don’t go into this story (or series) looking for high drama, which should be evident by the covers and blurbs but just in case, but expect to laugh your ass off and have a simple happy and silly feeling.

‘There is no way I’m going to let the love of my life die from a heart attack or never be able to have sex with me again just because my family if certifiable.’

Noel and Sam are at it again with their extended crazy crew and the antics are high and the situational humor is on point. With their wedding looming the constant meddling of their friends and family the stress is rising with everyday and now they get to add Sam’s inability to cross the finish line, if you know what I mean, to the list of everything that could go wrong. Noel and Sam have the sweetest relationship at the root of all the insane antics, I really do enjoy them and the extended cast is constantly making me giggle and even laughing out loud.

“I really want to have sex with you, but it always ends with one of us crying, because . . elbow fisting.”

All in all, The Firework Exploded, is a fast and fun read that makes for a great escape from the reality of life. If you like to laugh and enjoy over the top humor than this will be just right for you.
