Finally releasing her hand, Cletus noted conversationally, “If you come next Wednesday, I’ll let you try my sausage.”
I gathered a breath for patience and squeezed Sienna’s waist.
“Here we go,” Drew said as he swapped a knowing look with my sister.
Meanwhile, Beau rolled his eyes and released a disgusted snort. “Not this again.”
“Cletus’s famous sausage is famous,” Jess added helpfully, her eyebrows bouncing. She was already giggling.
Not missing a beat, Sienna asked, “How do you make it? Do you bake it?”
“No way. The heat isn’t right. In order for the sausage to mature, it needs the right type and application of heat. It needs heat on all sides, and wet heat is best.”
“You are the worst,” Billy said, though his mouth hitched on one side.
“This joke never gets old.” Jess was now laughing so hard she’d gripped her stomach, tears leaking from her eyes.
“It does when you have to hear it every month for ten years,” Duane complained, but couldn’t quite manage a scowl.
“My sausage is no joke.” Cletus frowned, wagging his finger through the air like we were all juveniles.
“So you grill it,” Sienna supplied, moving the conversation back on track.
“That’s right.”
“Good.” She nodded once, sounding thoughtful. “In that case, I insist you taste my thighs and breasts.”
These words, so calmly and earnestly spoken, rendered us all speechless.
Even Cletus.
I do believe we stared at Sienna in a collective state of paralyzed suspension, no one quite knowing how to react to her offer.
I felt her shoulders shake, so I shifted to the side, wanting to catch her expression. Penny Reid has delivered several things in her books, examples of devote friendship, extreme passion, action, hilarious situations and with Grin & Beard It we get the perfect example of a slow burn relationship. Have you ever lit a match and just to see how long you could hold it till it scorched your skin, just watched the molten red get closer and closer to you. It’s mesmerizing exactly how reading this book felt.

Sienna is a famous movie star and Jethro is a reformed car thief and current park ranger who has never heard of her. She doesn’t believe that marriage can work and he wants the forever kind of relationship. They could not be more different and yet they could not somehow be more perfect for one another. Jethro is all kinds of strong and quiet mountain man, he choses his words carefully and is fiercely protective. Jethro made many a bad decision in his life but has spent the past five years getting on the right path in life and that includes being celibate. He knows that Sienna can’t be for him, she will be moving on shortly and that is not what he wants, he cannot help himself become imbedded in her everyday life while filming on his mountain.

Sienna is famous but completely not what you expect. She wants a break from that lifestyle and when she finds help from a man who is blissfully unaware who she is she is more than happy to keep letting him believe she is “Sarah.” I have a weakness for strong female leads and Sienna fit that to a T. Confident in her curvy body in an industry that strives for women to reach and unreachable weight. She doesn’t change just to make others happy. She is confident, funny and completely loveable.

If you have been reading reviews than I am sure you have seen the phrase slow burn more than once and that is because that is exactly what this is. Grin & Beard It is not a faced paced plot driven book but instead it is one that focuses on the building the characters and having you fall in love with each of them. A character study in it’s purest form, watching the different layers of Sienna and Jethro was just plain delightful.

Typically I go not enjoy what I call “Famous people” books but Grin & Beard It’s saving grace is that Hollywood is not romanticized nor is it made to be the devil it just is what it is. Since the book mainly takes place in Tennessee it had a completely different feel than many other books involving famous people. But I will say that Sienna’s fame is a major plot line but was handled in a way that felt real and not forced. Despite having a theme I don’t often enjoy I loved this story and that in itself says wonders about the power of Penny’s writing.

Everything you expect in a Penny Reid book is present in this one, tons of hilarious moments, a couple you envy and strive to be like, a cast of characters that have you extremely excited for the next in the series and of course her ever present flawless writing. I loved it all and cannot wait for more.

1. How was writing Bittersweet different than other series for you?
Well, I was really conscious of all the things I’ve learned about starting a series! So I took my time to build a rich world where readers would want to linger. And now I want to linger there, too. 🙂
2. Who has been your favorite male character to write so far and why?
My favorite hero is always the one I’m currently working on. Unless we’re having a tiff, and then it’s more like love/hate that day.
3. What is your favorite part of the writing process?
Finishing. Kidding! The best part is when you realize which scene will be the emotional crux of the story. That moment is pure goal.
4. What is your least favorite part of the writing process?
The final final final revision. The book and I usually need a break from each other by then.
5. Have you always wanted to be a writer?
Yes. Well, since the 3rd grade.
6. What made you decide to publish your first book?
In ye olden days you didn’t just decide. You prostrated yourself to all the gatekeepers until one said yes. Years on that treadmill were good for me, though. I’m much more confident than if I could have simply hit “publish” the first time I ever wrote a novel.
7. What book are you most excited to read in 2016?
Elle Kennedy’s The Goal. I haven’t even bugged her about it yet. I’ve been very patient.
8. What are 3 fun facts about you?
1. I make good cocktails. 2. Apple picking season really is my favorite time of year. I didn’t have to fake that for BITTERSWEET. 3. I started taking yoga only because I needed to understand yoga for Brooklyn Bruisers #2. But I’m still going! What do I win?
9. What is something you love most about being in the author/reader community?
When someone tells me my book made them cry, it’s the best thing ever!

Greer and Cav have never had an easy relationship. It’s been full of drama and heartbreak since the beginning. And after Greer discovers the shocking truth about Cav’s heritage and walks away Cav must try everything to get her back and reveal the real truth behind his secrets.

I loved getting back into Cav and Greer’s story. We were left on such a cliffhanger and this story throws us straight back into the drama. I loved the first part of their story and I definitely wasn’t disappointed with the second. The drama, laughter, sex, passion and the beautiful romance were all back to make a thrilling second book.
“You have to fight through the darkness to appreciate the beauty in the light. That’s what we’re doing. Fighting through the dark shit between us so we don’t take for granted what’s on the other side. If it were easy, would it be as special?”
I love Cav and Greer. I think they are the perfect couple. Cav is domineering, has such a dirty mouth but is also so protective and cute, especially when he calls Greer baby girl. Greer is so determined and strong minded, I love that she could be submissive but also take no s**t from anyone and was a powerful woman in her own right.
“I meant it before and I mean it now. I want you in my life. Here. I’ll do whatever you need to make it happen. I won’t wait another three years.”
This book was the perfect conclusion to Greer and Cav’s romance. All of our questions are answered and then some! We have the perfect mix of the drama relating to Cav’s family and his past, Greer’s over protective brother Creighton wanting to protect her from everything and Greer not letting herself be controlled or told what to do by anyone. The sex scenes were once again off the charts hot but also had a slightly more love feel to them as Greer and Cav’s relationship grows. I loved hearing from Creighton and Holly again and Banner, Greer’s best friend brings so much laughter to the story.
