Call Me, Maybe by Ellie Cahill Review
3.5 Smooches
Synopsis
Clementine Daly knows she’s the black sheep. Her wealthy, powerful family has watched her very closely since she almost got caught in an embarrassing scandal a few years ago. So when Clementine’s sent on a mission to live up to the Daly name, politely declining isn’t even an option. Of course, the last thing Clementine does before departure is grab a stranger’s phone by mistake—leaving the hunky journalist with her phone. Soon his sexy voice is on the line, but he doesn’t know her real name, or her famous pedigree—which is just the way Clementine likes it.
Despite all the hassles, Justin Mueller is intrigued to realize that the beautiful brown-eyed girl he met at the airport is suddenly at his fingertips. They agree to exchange phones when they’re both back in town, but after a week of flirty texts and wonderfully intimate conversations, Justin doesn’t want to let her go that easy. The only problem? It turns out that Clemetine has been lying to him about, well, everything. Except for the one thing two people can’t fake, the only thing that matters: The heat between them is for real.
Review
I am a huge sucker for a book with a good does of texting, emails and phone calls, so when I say the synopsis for Call Me, Maybe I was incredibly excited and eager to start. When Clementine and Justin’s phones get mixed up at the airport they decided to hold onto them for a week until they can exchange them in person back home. Suddenly these two strangers are thrust into each others lives delivering messages to one another. Before long they are talking more than necessary and not just passing along important messages and calls. They are eager to get to know one another and quickly find themselves growing close to the stranger who has their main life line in their hands. But socialite Clementine is no stranger to a public scandal involving private matters on her phone and has to decide how much information she can trust this man who she just met and cannot stop thinking about. Can their connection hold strong when they meet in person or will the exciting allure of the mystery stranger be lost when the mystery is solved.
“We’ve only known each other for what? Nine days?” The result of my mental math surprised me. He felt way too important – necessary – for nine days.’
So while overall I enjoyed this sweet easy read I had a hard time with a few plot points including Justin having no clue who Clementine was. In this modern world where everything is online someone who is such a big socialite I would think would not be too hard to recognize. Her family is big, like Trump or Hilton big, so to think that he has no clue who she is was a tad hard for me to swallow. But again it is probably just me nit-picking. Still overall the book moved along and I loved all the texting and phone calls. I wish I felt a deeper connection between the two but at the same time I didn’t feel disconnected either. Full of funny moments and a does of heart Call Me, Maybe is a book worth opening!

A British literature fanatic at heart, Lia considers Mr. Darcy and Edward Rochester as her fictional boyfriends. Her very patient husband doesn’t mind. Much. When not torturing heroes (because c’mon, who doesn’t love a good tortured hero?), Lia herds unruly chickens, camps, beach combs, daydreams about future books, wades through a mile-high TBR pile and schemes yet another trip. Review
Is it ok to admit I judged this book by it’s blurb? Words like ‘summit of La Aguja’, ‘climbers’, ‘mountaineers’ and ’hiking-boots’ assaulted me and I instantly felt a bit dubious as I didn’t know anything about this type of adventure romance and going up a mountain seemed as interesting as listening to my hubby list all the modifications he wants do to his car to make it race faster (because he’s clearly experiencing a midlife crisis and you can only drive the legal limit anyway) but once again I was proven to be a terrible narrow-minded individual because not only did this book take me out of my comfort zone in reading, but it completely blew my mind in every way. It goes beyond the romance genre and into something all of its own making. Sure we get to traverse inhospitable regions and learn the reality and perils of climbing, especially unprepared and in extreme weather, but on this incredible journey we’re shown one of the greatest and most memorable romance stories. The connection that gruff Scottish mountaineer Rhys MacAskill and the wonderfully named Auden Woods experience is elemental, fierce, as well as instantaneous, whether their stunning natural surroundings amplify those feelings and emotions I’m not quite sure, but what these two go through together in only a few days amounts to more passion, confusion, fear and longing than most people get to experience in the entirety of their lives.
‘“Careful lass. I bite.” My fingers clasp her a little harder.
She takes hold of my hair as defiance flashes in her gaze. Closer, she comes. Her quickened breath warms my face. There’s a strangled noise. Shit, that’s me. A freckle punctuates the corner of her top lip. She bypasses my mouth and gives me jaw a sweetly sharp nip. “Bet I can bite harder.”’’
The way Lia describes Patagonia-the harsh and unpredictable weather and the vast array of colour, sound and light-paints a rather vivid canvas in your head, so you find it no trouble at all to imagine yourself in that tent, in a storm, battling back raging hormones and awkwardness. Rhys is utter perfection, he has the damaged lone wolf skill set down pat and it’s Auden’s remarkably infectious personality that brings an element of light and fun to both Rhys and the story over all. She is endearingly clumsy but lovable to his gruff and terse nature and together they create a force to be reckoned with. It’s a fabulous story and I can honestly say there wasn’t one single thing I would have altered. There are so many dramatic points, twists and tragic situations mixed in with funnier lighter moments and some hot and heavy ones, that you are literally flipping that page over as quickly as your eyes will let you read. Tremendously well written with two completely engaging characters to lead you through this exciting adventure.
And on that note I would like to offer up an apology to Lia Riley for doubting the brilliance of With Every Breath simply from reading the synopsis.

Excerpt
“It’s so beautiful here. I mean, it’s the middle of November and freezing, but I still want to step into the edge of the waves and dig my toes into that shimmering white sand. It’s breathtaking,” I said, watching a flock of seagulls soar over the ocean while a few dipped down into the water for a snack.
I braced myself in the seat, expecting him to lash back. Instead he surprised me by reaching into my lap, and dragging my hand over to rest on his thigh. I relished his strong warm hand covering the back of mine. His shoulder relaxed a fraction and relief zipped through me.
“Malibu’s better.” His voice ground out deep and filled with edge.
“I don’t know about the beach in Malibu, but once I had amazing random sex with a gorgeous hot guy there.” I nudged his shoulder and batted my eyes at him.
“Amazing, huh?”
“The best.”
“Have you ever regretted it?” He kept his focus on the highway, but swept his thumb over my fingers.
“Regretted what? Having random sex, or meeting him?”
“Both.”
“No. He made me feel pretty and wanted when I needed that the most. So no, I don’t regret one single minute.”
“Pretty? He fucked up. He should have made you feel beautiful.” A genuine smile pulled his lips upward and I cemented his words into my memory for life.
“Thank you,” I whispered, and turned my hand over, palm to palm with his. Our fingers intertwined and I breathed in happiness.

Review
Wow, I am big fan of this author. I have enjoyed most of her books but man this one was totally different and really surprising. I was hooked from page one. I mean, COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. Just, wow.
So, First Touch is impossibly sexy. Ya know, the if you are reading it in public blush down to your toes sexy. The sex scenes were beyond sensual but really what had me hooked was the actual story. I mean these characters, pretty much all of them, are flawed. Not a one did I think was a particularly good person. They all have somewhat tragic past that have molded them and made them into the people that they are so while empathized with them, I didn’t necessarily love them but that did not stop me from loving this story. It didn’t stop me from rooting for love. It didn’t stop me from wanting to find out “who did it.” It definitely didn’t stop me from wanting a happy ending. And, speaking of that ending. I am just so mad because I simply cannot wait for the next book. I am absolutely dying for it because there is ridiculously huge cliffy that had my jaw literally hitting the floor. Oh, Laurelin Paige, you are a bad bad girl.
The romance in this story is top notch but the mystery is the part I loved best. It kept me turning the pages like the true book addict I am!
This book has fabulous writing and an amazing plot. I have no idea what is going to happen next but I know it is going to be damn good. I need that book now!
‘This was our first surrender, First embrace, First kiss. First touch.’

Untouchable Darkness by Rachel Van Dyken Review
4.5 Smooches
Synopsis
To love a Dark One is to invite death…
It is wrong to love her.
It is worse to want her.
It is sin to consume her.
I desire all three.
I’ve been given thirty days to prove my love to another immortal–as a human. Cursed to use nothing but the side of myself I’ve always despised to win her affection. I am Cassius, the King of the immortals, A Dark One.
And today I tasted fear for the first time.
How can I win her when my human emotions over take every ounce of logic I possess?
A darkness is brewing.
One I cannot stop as a human.
One that Stephanie, my loves visions, have shown, will be my end.
Thirty days ago I was King of the immortals.
Today I know fear.
Today I know how I will die.
By her hand.
The woman I love.
Review
‘Hope died in my chest as I realized – I would never be his equal even as a Dark One. He would always be one step ahead of me. He would always be – Cassius. And I? I would always be the little girl he saved. Never the woman he loved.’
Untouchable Darkness is the newest book in The Dark Ones Saga and while I do believe it can be read as a standalone it is greatly enhanced if you have read the first book. Picking up right where The Dark Ones left off, Stephanie and Cassius’ journey is full of secrets, hidden love and him going to any length to protect the one he loves.
‘My body hummed with anticipation. Or maybe it was irritation . . . that as a human he was completely wrecking havoc on my emotions – even more so than when he was immortal.’
Months have passed since Stephanie was willing to give up her immortality to save her king and the man she loves, Cassius. Thinking him indifferent to her she is tormented by her one sided love. Cassius has always loved Stephanie, even when he hid her true self from her, it was to protect her. Now it is Cassius who must give up who he is in order to prove he can be who she needs. Using her training to explain why he is around, Cassius is turned human and has thirty days to have Stephanie fall in love and mate with him or else his predicament will be permanent. But even with residual feelings not everything is easy peasy. As usual on the paranormal front war is brewing and evil is calling. Can Stephanie who is new to being a Dark One resist the darkness and stay in the light or will she give into the outcome feared and predicted by all?
“If I told you I loved you would you believe me? His eyes closed. “If I told you it was forbidden, would you stop?”
While I really enjoyed the first book in this series I felt that Untouchable Darkness was even better. It’s hard not to fall for Cassius. We saw him as a charmer in The Dark Ones and now we get to see his human side as well as a lot of backstory into how he became the man/god he is. The entire cast of characters adds to this dynamic story, often relieving the tension with funny quips and one liners. I am super eager to get my hands on Mason’s, the werewolf, story. Now this might be me but I personally see several parallels between this series and Rachel’s Eagle Elite series, which is one of my favorites. While similar they are also very different but if you are a fan of her mafia books like I am then I highly encourage you to give this paranormal series a go!

Excerpt:
“I talked to my parents. To Tanner. To Shane.” My voice fades off as the disbelief I have to take stock and let him know the damage control I’ve done takes hold. Unsure how to respond to me when he’s always so sure, he just nods his head as our eyes hold steadfast. “I just don’t know…” My voice is so soft, it sounds so very different than the storm of anger that rages inside me, and yet I can’t find it within me to show my emotions. I can feel his fingers tense from my comment, see his Adam’s apple bob from the forced swallow, and notice the tick of muscle as he clenches his jaw.
“We’ll get through this.”
The condescending chuckle falls from my lips, the first break in my fraudulent façade because it’s so damn easy for him to say. “I know.” Voice back, emotion nonexistent, tone unsure.
Colton stares, willing me to say more but I don’t. I just match him stare for hollow stare as images of myself from Google flickering through my mind. Finally he breaks out connection and reaches his fingers to pinch the bridge of his nose before blowing out a sigh.
“Scream at me, Ry. Yell. Rage. Take it out on me. Do anything but be silent because I can’t handle when you’re silent with me,” he pleads. All I can do is shake my head, dig down within myself to will the emotion to come. When I can’t find the words or the feeling behind them, it unnerves him, worries him. “I’m sorry, baby. Were we stupid? Maybe. Do I regret it?” He shakes his head. “I regret all of this, yes, but that in general? No. So many damn things happened that put you and me where we are now. So for that? I’m not sorry. You pushed me that night, made me question if I could give someone more of myself.” He reaches his free hand up to brush a thumb over the line of my jaw. His touch reassuring, his words helping soothe the sting of our situation.
“It’s not your fault,” I say, trying to ease the concern in his eyes.
“Maybe not directly . . . but I made you color outside of your perfectly constructed lines . . . do something against your nature, and look what happened. I’m so sorry. I wish I could make this right,” he says, dropping his head as he shakes his head in defeat. “All I can try to do is mitigate the damage. That’s it.” He throws his hands up. “It’s killing me because I can’t fix this.” The break in his voice and the tension in his body would have told me everything I needed to know even if he hadn’t uttered a sound.
I look at my achingly handsome husband, so distraught, so desperate to make wrongs right that aren’t his to be held responsible for. And seeing him as upset as I am makes me feel a little better and allows me to dig into the deep well of emotion. I finally find the words I need and want to tell him. The decisions I came to last night when I sat on the deck and considered the life-altering situation we were in.
“Stop. Please quit beating yourself up over this. I don’t blame you.” I pause, my teeth worrying my bottom lip as I put words to my thoughts and wait for him to hear that last sentence.
