Shane by SJ McCoy Blog Tour

Shane, Remington Ranch #2 Blog Tour

AVAILABLE NOW!

Synopsis:

Shane Remington has it all. He has a great family. He’s built his guest ranch into a great business. He’s a good-looking guy and he knows it. Everyone loves him. He may not have a woman, but that’s okay, he can have any woman he wants—and usually does. There is one woman who seems impervious to his charms though, and for some reason it bothers him.

Cassidy Lane has it all, too. She’s a talented artist, who has made it commercially. She’s successful in her work and in her life. Whatever she wants, she makes it happen. She came to Montana for a new adventure and it’s working out perfectly. The one thing she doesn’t want—or need—is a man.

Shane Remington may be annoyingly attractive, but Cassidy knows he can’t handle her. Guys like him want a small, sweet woman to feed their ego—not a strong smart woman like her to challenge it.
There’s no denying the attraction between them, but will it be enough to bring together a woman who doesn’t want anyone and a guy who wants everyone?

This book is intended for adult readers aged 18+

About The Author

Hi, I’m SJ, a coffee addict, lover of chocolate and drinker of good red wines. I’m a lost soul and a hopeless romantic. Reading and writing are necessary parts of who I am. Though perhaps not as necessary as coffee! I can drink coffee without writing, but I can’t write without coffee.

I grew up loving romance novels, my first boyfriends were book boyfriends, but life intervened, as it tends to do, and I wandered down the paths of non fiction for many years. My life changed completely a couple of years ago and I returned to Romance to find my escape.

I write ‘Sweet N Steamy’ stories because to me there is enough angst and darkness in real life. My favorite romances are happy escapes with a focus on fun, friendships and happily-ever-afters, just like the ones I write.

These days I live in beautiful Montana, the last best place. If I’m not reading or writing you’ll find me just down the road in the park – Yellowstone. I have deer, eagles and the occasional bear for company, and I like it that way.

Keep Up With SJ:

Former tennis player Easton Bradbury is trying to be the best teacher she can be, trying to reach her bored students and trying to forget her past. What brought her to this stage in her life isn’t important. She can’t let it be. But now one parent-teacher meeting may be her undoing…

Meeting Tyler Marek for the first time makes it easy for Easton to see why his son is having trouble in school. The man knows how to manage businesses and wealth, not a teenage boy. Wanting him is taboo. Needing him is undeniable. And his long-awaited touch will weaken Easton’s resolve—and reveal what should stay hidden…

Misconduct – Excerpt

His three-piece black pin-striped suit looked crisp and dark against his fair skin, and his white shirt and slate-gray tie shimmered in the glow of the light overhead.

I took a few steps forward. “What are you doing here?” I asked.

His eyes shot down to my feet, and I followed his gaze, remembering that I’d forgotten to put my heels back on.

“Always losing your shoes,” he commented, a smile curling his mouth.

I pursed my lips and turned around, snatching my heels off the seat and slipping them back onto my feet. Grabbing the back of the chair, I pulled it behind me and entered my classroom, knowing he’d follow.

“You came to my workplace unannounced,” he stated behind me. “I thought I would return the favor.”

I replaced my chair behind my desk and looked up, seeing that he had closed the door behind him.

“And?” I prompted.

“And I came to apologize,” he admitted, stopping a few feet in front of my desk. “I’ve been unfair, and I’m sorry. Christian has his phone back, so we’ll see how this goes.”

I stilled, my heart galloping in my chest, and I almost smiled.

Really?

I opened my mouth but had to swallow the lump before I could speak. “Well, that’s great,” I said, surprised. “Thank you.”

I guess I got through to him at his office.

He slid one of his hands into a pocket and narrowed his eyes on me, looking a little surprised.

“You seem very knowledgeable and determined.” His voice sounded genuine. “You’re an impressive woman, Ms. Bradbury, and I should’ve taken the time to understand your methods.”

I kept my shoulders squared, but my eyes dropped, embarrassment warming my cheeks.

“Thank you,” I mumbled, turning around to grab a dry-erase marker to start writing the schedule on the board for when then kids came back on Thursday.

“Christian talks about your class,” he said behind me. “I can tell your teaching interests him, even if he would never admit it.”

I uncapped the marker and rested my hand on the board but didn’t write anything.

“He really can’t stand me, can he?”

I dropped my hand to my side and spun around slowly, surprised by his question.

And feeling terrible all over again. I should never have said that.

No matter how much I thought I knew about him, they were nothing more than assumptions. Who was I to insinuate his son didn’t care for him or vice versa? And what gave me the right to say anything at all in the first place?

He breathed deeply, and for the first time since I’d met him, he looked unsure of himself.

“I was twenty when he was born,” he told me. “That’s no excuse, but it’s the only one I have.”

Twenty.

I was twenty-three, and I couldn’t imagine having a child right now.

I watched him and waited, not wanting to say anything or interrupt because I found I kind of liked it when he talked.

“I know what you think of me.” He looked me dead in the eye and then dropped his gaze, speaking in a voice close to a whisper. “And what he thinks of me.”

And then he let out a bitter laugh, shaking his head. “I don’t know why I even care what you think. You don’t give a shit about me, but I guess that’s what’s so intriguing.” He moved forward, his soft eyes turning to steel. “You’re so cold and distant,” he charged. “I guess I wouldn’t think anything of it if I hadn’t seen you so different at one time.”

I inhaled a shaky breath, looking down at his right hand. The same one that had held my waist while we danced.

I licked my lips, barely noticing him advance.

“You were flirty and fun.” His voice turned husky, and I looked up, seeing him round my desk slowly. “And you keep pissing me off, but it feels good,” he whispered, playing with me, drawing me in.

I knew that look in his eyes. I may not know much about him, but I knew that look.

And we were in my classroom.

His son’s classroom.

I may have had little shame, but he had none.

“Mr.—”

He cut me off. “Why won’t you ever say my name?”

I shook my head, confused. “Why do you care what I think?”

“I don’t,” he maintained. “I care that you don’t think of me at all.”

I narrowed my eyes on him, clenching my teeth. “That’s not . . .” I trailed off, plastering my back against the whiteboard as he hovered over me.

“That’s not what?” he pressed, his voice sounding strained.

He stood so close that I had only to lift a hand and I could touch him.

“That’s not true,” I finished.

He leaned in. “You look at me like I don’t matter.” His eyes searched mine. “And I don’t like it.”

Title: Defy

Series: Brothers of Ink and Steel

Author: Allie Juliette Mousseau

Genre: New Adult Standalone Romance

Released: December 1, 2015

Rachel Farrington

I should never have taken the dangerous shortcut to the frat party. It was in that unlit alley where I saw a fellow student brutally murdered and when I was put on the cartel leader’s hit list. As a federal witness, I thought I was safe in the protective custody of the FBI… that is until I woke up chained in the monster’s basement. When a powerful and lethal soldier, Ryder Axton—claiming to be a bounty hunter—tells me that he’s there to rescue me, I know it’s a lie. The only thought I have is how I can possibly kill him and get free. But after a series of unexplainable experiences that defy death, the overwhelmingly rugged, sexy, dirty-minded, Navy Seal trained, hot blooded bounty hunter—who obviously plays by his own rules—just might win my trust. He’s not an ordinary man. He’s strong, dark and deadly, his past is mysterious and his motives unreadable. He is made of the stuff of myth and legend, and of ink and steel. Is Ryder for real? Or is he employed by my captor for a more sinister purpose?

Ryder Axton

I always fight hard, fuck harder, and never let myself get personally involved. But my assignment, to apprehend the suspect Eduardo Miguel comes to a grinding halt when I find the missing federal witness held captive in his basement. It becomes fucking personal, fast! Making sure Farrington is safe even if it—or more likely she—kills me, is now my only mission. But she’s terrified and fights me at every turn. Earning her trust becomes more than a way to save both our lives, it’s like an addictive drug, I need it—I need her to trust me—like I need the air to breathe. When she begins investigating into the hidden parts of my soul, I almost can’t deny her. I know I can protect her, I know I could pleasure her in one explosive night she’ll always remember and I’ll never forget. What I don’t know is how it feels to fall hard… until now. But getting too close to me, seems to come with an ominous curse.

Just when I thought I had nothing to lose, I was wrong.

Can we both defy death… again?

Synopsis

Magazine columnist Quinn Sawyer has always attracted sweet, innocent, and safe men. And something tells her it’s because she’s just as harmless. So when she starts craving a guy with an edge, she realizes she may have to get one for herself.

When her boss asks for a unique pitch, Quinn’s quest to live outside her comfort zone prompts her to suggest an idea that will cause her to break her good-girl rules. And who better than Tim Jacobs to help her push her boundaries? For a while now, Quinn’s had a hot crush on the tattooed executive chef with a checkered past. If anybody can bring out her inner rebel, he can.

It’s no surprise that with every task the two complete, the sparks between them grow more and more intense. Soon there’s no denying the attraction they each feel. But Tim’s troubled past reveals an even tougher edge than Quinn expected—which means for her, falling in love might just be the greatest rebellion of all.

Review

“Okay, you want to unleash your inner rebel, then we’ll do it.”  “We?” ” Oh yeah. There’s no way I’m missing out on this.”

Elizabeth Hayley is a duo done right. Not only is their writing flawless (in no way can I tell when one writer stopped and another started) but they even make me a hater of third person just not care about it. Just Say Yes grabbed my attention from the moment I learned that good girl Quinn has set out to do a list of “bad things” and bad boy (or former bad boy even if he doesn’t acknowledge it) Tim decides to help her. That is a story line just asking for a good does of humor mixed with some great sex and just enough drama.  I loved the first standalone in this series and I can honestly say that Just Say Yes is even better.

‘Plain and simple, Quinn was a good person who was attempting to do a few bad things. But Tim had been a bad person for much of his life, and no amount of good deeds would wipe that slate clean.’

Quinn is determined to make it as a writer and if writing an article about her foray into the bad girl lifestyle is how to do it than she is all over it. I LOVED the list and how not only does Time help her but holds her hand and makes each task not only manageable but fun for her. I loved him and only wish he could have loved himself as much. Tim knows he is unworthy of someone sweet and good like Quinn but that has never stopped him from wanting her, only from acting on it. But he convinces himself that he can be her friend and help her and that is all it will be. But when he finds out that Quinn wants him too can he resist his biggest temptation?

‘She made him happy, made him better, made him somebody. But what she didn’t make him was worthy. It wasn’t the first time he’s forced himself to swallow that bitter pill, and it wouldn’t be the last.’

Just Say Yes was contemporary romance done right. I laughed out loud, my heart ached for their struggles but in the end I was left with a smile on my face.  If you are looking for an easy read filled with passion and humor this might just be the book for you!

Review

The Best Goodbye is the thirteenth book in the Rosemary Beach series!  13!  Wow, that is a lot of books and I absolutely hope this series never ends.  I am in love with it.  It really is my guilty pleasure as it starts out and reads as a sexy new adult romance and has slowly become contemporary.  And God.  I love it!  I love revisiting with my favorite characters and getting to meet new ones.  I love learning a little something about characters I thought I knew.  Like Captain.  I hand a handle on Captain (Blair’s brother) and his alpha badass attitude but I had no idea the why’s of who is he now or who he used to be.

‘River had wanted to protect me, but this man . . . I wasn’t sure how I’d survive him.  He could break me in a way I wouldn’t ever recover from.’

This book was such an absolute surprise and I really do not want to give anything away.  I seriously thought Captain would end up with Nan and that is part of the fun of guessing about Abbi’s next book in this series.  The guessing part and I was totally wrong and as this is Captain and Rose’s book and Rose is new on the scene but not quite new to Captain and their story is a really heart breaking one.  So go ahead and bust out the tissues and wine, peeps!  You are going to need it!

“You’re too special, too fucking precious, for what I’ve become.”

Ahhh!  Captain and Rose nearly killed me and usual Abbi was able to bring out the gamut of all of my emotions.  I laughed, I cried, and oh the steam.  This book was hot!  Abbi Glines NEVER disappoints me.  Even her YA books rock.  And Captain and Rose were no different.  If you have loved the rest of this series then you will adore this one.  I am literally on the edge of my seat waiting for Major’s story.

“Makes all the paths I took to get me here worth every last mile.”

PROLOGUE

There were nasty looking bruises on his cheek and jaw, his lip was swollen and his knuckles were scraped and bloody.  The instant I got a good look at his face I knew something was horribly wrong.  It only went downhill from there.

My attempts to contain my panic weren’t working.  Choking back a sob I blubbered, “Why do you have to go?”

The anger was all but pouring off of him.  Not toward me—he’d never once been angry with me. I knew anger though, and it was more than obvious he was furious about something. A permanent grimace seemed to have set up camp on his face.  For him, it was highly unusual.  Even in the toughest of times, he kept his cool.

Suddenly, he wasn’t calm at all.  He was angrier than I’d ever seen him.  It was obvious he’d been in a fight, but it didn’t change his status as the most attractive guy alive, in my opinion.

I saw his jaw clenching and unclenching which I figured meant he was trying to control himself.

“Because this piece of shit town is like a fucking cancer,” he spat.  “I’m so done with the crazy assholes around here. People like us aren’t normal—we’re the freaks for trying to be good people.”

I didn’t know how to argue with his words.  He wasn’t wrong—there was a lot wrong with many of the people in our town. Most of the crazy people were either my family members or his.  I knew it and so did he.  There wasn’t a response to erase the reality of the kind of people we dealt with.

“Are you going alone?”

His hands clenched into fists at his sides as he nodded stiffly. “Yes.”

“Even though you live with—”

His hand shot up into a stop gesture to keep me from finishing the sentence.

“Don’t say her fucking name. If I never hear it again, it’ll be too soon. I don’t live with that crazy bitch anymore.”

I couldn’t stand her so it wasn’t like I was going to push. She was an evil troll. If he had to go, I was glad he wasn’t taking her with him.  It would’ve made me ill. She pretended to be sweetness and light when he was around but it was nothing but a charade.  She was terrible.  I was glad he wasn’t taking her, but the fact he wouldn’t say her name told me his leaving was somehow her responsibility. I hated her more than ever.

“Where will you go?”

He gestured back over his shoulder toward the street with his thumb.

“Wherever my car takes me once I pull out,” he said.

I couldn’t imagine life without him, nor did I want to. Not only had he been my crush for as long as I could remember, he was the only person who ever really listened to me.

“Will you ever visit?” I asked hopefully.

He was shaking his head in the negative before I’d even fully finished asking the question. I knew he wouldn’t. The bone-deep hatred he had for everything about where we lived was stamped all over his face.  I wanted so badly to know what, exactly, had sent him over the edge, but when I asked, he’d refused to tell me.

It sucked being fourteen because he treated me like a kid.  My age said I was a child, but I was so different than any of my peers it wasn’t even funny.  Because of this, they teased me often, referring to me as Granny Carmichael.  I hated it.  It wasn’t as though I’d had a choice.  My childhood was over the moment my mother got sick.

His expression softened when he looked me over. “You need to get back inside before you get pneumonia.”

The frigid Colorado air wasn’t even making an impression on me until he pointed it out. I realized my tears were leaving cold trails on my face, but I couldn’t walk away. All I cared about was how much I didn’t want him to leave.

“I don’t care about the cold or getting pneumonia.  I don’t want you to go!” I cried anxiously.

He hugged me then, his strong arms wrapping around me to give comfort.  I hadn’t hugged him since I’d been much younger—probably five or six.  Those hugs had mostly involved me wrapping myself around one of his legs.  This was different. I wrapped my arms tight around him and cried against his chest, holding on for as long as he allowed me to.

“I’m sorry,” he said as he ended the embrace and stepped back. “I have to leave.”

Knowing my denial and resistance weren’t going to make any difference, I swiped at my tears as I nodded.

“I’ll miss you,” I said on a choked sob.  “Take care of yourself.”

“I’ll miss you too,” he replied softly.  “You’re one of the few good people here.”

My heart galloped in my chest. I loved him for saying what he did—but hated that it came at such a horrible price.  Losing him was unbearable.

He turned as if to leave, then stopped.  Spinning back my way, he stared at me intently for a few moments before he spoke again.

“You’re so much better than any of these people. Don’t ever let them change who you are. The world needs a lot more you and a lot less them. No matter what anyone tells you—you’re perfect.  Got it?”

I nodded as I wiped at the tears running unchecked down my face.

He hugged me again, very briefly. My heart skipped a few beats when he dropped a kiss on top of my head.

“Don’t ever forget your worth—not even for a minute,” he murmured.

When he let go, he said nothing else.  He just turned and walked to his car.  As he went, the chill in the air suddenly took hold of me.  Hugging my arms around myself, I watched as he got into the car, turned it on and then pulled out of my driveway.  He looked at me one last time before putting his hand up in a goodbye gesture.  I did the same.  A few seconds passed before he put the car in drive then sped off into the night.

I stayed outside for two or three minutes, hoping against hope he would change his mind and come back.

He didn’t.

Hours later when I got into bed, I prayed fate would bring him back one day.  I said the same prayer most nights for a long, long time. Eventually I had no choice but to accept reality.

Hell would freeze over before he returned.

Review

“Don’t ever forget your worth—not even for a minute.”

Fourteen-year-old Keely Carmichael had one person in her young life she could count on for normalcy and support – Ronan Sharpe. Following the death of her mother, she had no choice but to grow up fast. With a father who largely ignored her and made it painfully clear that she was a distant second to her half-sister, Izzy, a sister who couldn’t – and didn’t – tolerate her, she was barely an afterthought at home. The only bright spot in her young life was her friendship with her older neighbor, Ronan. It was, that is, until he suddenly showed up on her doorstep on his way out of town to say goodbye.

“Hell would freeze over before he returned.”

Adopted into a horribly dysfunctional family and dubbed the “Band-Aid Baby,” life in Colorado wasn’t very kind to twenty-one year old Ronan Sharpe. Following the death of his alcoholic and uncaring mother, his cruel and abusive brother, Will, was all that was left of his horror show of a family. He left Colorado abruptly on the very same day that he discovered the truth about his girlfriend, Tiffany, the girl he thought he was in love with and would be marrying. He vowed never to return to Fort Collins, and aside from his best friend, Canter, and the sweet little neighbor girl he’d befriended, he had no other ties to the place he’d called home up to this point in his life.

“You girls need me here, so here’s where I’ll be until you don’t.”

Seven years later, a middle-of-the-night phone call changes everything when he learns that his brother was killed in a car accident, and Will’s girlfriend, Izzy, Keely’s older sister, managed to deliver a healthy baby girl before she succumbed to her injuries. Keely was also in the car, and her injuries rendered her unconscious. As the baby’s only living relative, he needed to return to Colorado quickly to care for her. Upon regaining consciousness, Keely explained that Izzy had told her that she was a surrogate, but things didn’t add up, and Keely never truly believed that story. While she is recovering in the hospital, the truth comes out, and Keely learns that Izzy had elaborately planned for her to take the baby all along.

“My feelings for him weren’t just back—they were stronger than ever.”

With her own injuries to recover from, Ronan decides to stay on to help Keely get her feet under her as a new mother. Living within the close confines of Keely’s tiny studio apartment, working together as a parental team, and the startling realization that the little neighbor girl is now a knock-out, wreak havoc on Ronan’s emotions. He’s wildly attracted to Keely and falling deeper in love with the baby every day. Keely, who crushed on Ronan for the majority of her life, was battling a resurgence of her own feelings. Bonding together as parents for this precious baby girl only compounded their feelings for each other.

“I was right where I was supposed to be, and I’d never felt better.”

Ronan has some issues to work through in his mind before he can embrace what he’s feeling for Keely and “put it all on the line.” His main issue is the fact that she’s only nineteen. But, ever the mature one, it is Keely who puts her age in perspective for him, and, after some well timed words of wisdom from Canter sink in, Ronan takes the leap of faith he hadn’t ever planned on taking again.

Ella Fox has written another hit in All That’s Left to Hold Onto.  It’s a sweet friends-to-lovers story that’s well written, funny and – once Ronan accepted his fate as Keely’s man and Emma’s dad – very sexy. So, it’s 4.5 smooches from me for Ella Fox’s All That’s Left to Hold Onto!
