All That’s Left to Hold Onto by Ella Fox Review
4.5 Smooches!
Synopsis
When Ronan Sharpe unexpectedly left Colorado for parts unknown, he took a piece of Keely Carmichael’s heart with him.
After leaving his hellish roots behind him, Ronan found contentment when he started over. Thoughts of the past had been pushed down for so long; he hardly thought about it at all.
He intended to keep it that way.
When unexpected circumstances force Ronan to return to Colorado, the Keely he finds is no longer the adolescent girl he remembered. Torn between desire and fear, Ronan struggles with his feelings for Keely and his need to escape the town that scarred him so deeply years ago.
Letting go is all Ronan’s ever known. Will he realize a life with Keely is something he should hold onto at any cost?
Review
“Don’t ever forget your worth—not even for a minute.”
Fourteen-year-old Keely Carmichael had one person in her young life she could count on for normalcy and support – Ronan Sharpe. Following the death of her mother, she had no choice but to grow up fast. With a father who largely ignored her and made it painfully clear that she was a distant second to her half-sister, Izzy, a sister who couldn’t – and didn’t – tolerate her, she was barely an afterthought at home. The only bright spot in her young life was her friendship with her older neighbor, Ronan. It was, that is, until he suddenly showed up on her doorstep on his way out of town to say goodbye.
“Hell would freeze over before he returned.”
Adopted into a horribly dysfunctional family and dubbed the “Band-Aid Baby,” life in Colorado wasn’t very kind to twenty-one year old Ronan Sharpe. Following the death of his alcoholic and uncaring mother, his cruel and abusive brother, Will, was all that was left of his horror show of a family. He left Colorado abruptly on the very same day that he discovered the truth about his girlfriend, Tiffany, the girl he thought he was in love with and would be marrying. He vowed never to return to Fort Collins, and aside from his best friend, Canter, and the sweet little neighbor girl he’d befriended, he had no other ties to the place he’d called home up to this point in his life.
“You girls need me here, so here’s where I’ll be until you don’t.”
Seven years later, a middle-of-the-night phone call changes everything when he learns that his brother was killed in a car accident, and Will’s girlfriend, Izzy, Keely’s older sister, managed to deliver a healthy baby girl before she succumbed to her injuries. Keely was also in the car, and her injuries rendered her unconscious. As the baby’s only living relative, he needed to return to Colorado quickly to care for her. Upon regaining consciousness, Keely explained that Izzy had told her that she was a surrogate, but things didn’t add up, and Keely never truly believed that story. While she is recovering in the hospital, the truth comes out, and Keely learns that Izzy had elaborately planned for her to take the baby all along.
“My feelings for him weren’t just back—they were stronger than ever.”
With her own injuries to recover from, Ronan decides to stay on to help Keely get her feet under her as a new mother. Living within the close confines of Keely’s tiny studio apartment, working together as a parental team, and the startling realization that the little neighbor girl is now a knock-out, wreak havoc on Ronan’s emotions. He’s wildly attracted to Keely and falling deeper in love with the baby every day. Keely, who crushed on Ronan for the majority of her life, was battling a resurgence of her own feelings. Bonding together as parents for this precious baby girl only compounded their feelings for each other.
“I was right where I was supposed to be, and I’d never felt better.”
Ronan has some issues to work through in his mind before he can embrace what he’s feeling for Keely and “put it all on the line.” His main issue is the fact that she’s only nineteen. But, ever the mature one, it is Keely who puts her age in perspective for him, and, after some well timed words of wisdom from Canter sink in, Ronan takes the leap of faith he hadn’t ever planned on taking again.
Ella Fox has written another hit in All That’s Left to Hold Onto. It’s a sweet friends-to-lovers story that’s well written, funny and – once Ronan accepted his fate as Keely’s man and Emma’s dad – very sexy. So, it’s 4.5 smooches from me for Ella Fox’s All That’s Left to Hold Onto!

The Best Medicine by Elizabeth Hayley Review
4.5 Smooches
Synopsis
Lauren Hastings is finally ready to enter the real world. At twenty-six, she’s about to get her master’s in psychology, and she’s well on her way to beginning the career of her dreams—until she suffers public humiliation and has to endure something she thought she’d never have to deal with again: a part-time job.
A gig at Trinity Hospital isn’t exactly Lauren’s definition of a good time, but Dr. Scott Jacobs quickly changes her mind. He’s straight-up gorgeous, and he always gets what he wants. And that includes Lauren. It’s an ideal arrangement for both of them. No strings. Just fun—at least at first.
But feelings quickly begin to run deeper than either Lauren or Scott is willing to admit, causing issues neither of them want to confront. After all, who wants to risk the perfect relationship on something as terrifying, as messy, and as unpredictable as love?
Review
Elizabeth Hayley is a duo that I can count on to make me laugh and anxious all at the same time but no matter what happens I am always left with a smile on my face and desperate for more from them. A fan of their work since they first started publishing I was extremely excited to see what they would produce with their first foray into traditional publishing, I was not disappointed!
Graduate student Lauren has a knack for trouble and her most recent problem landed her briefly in jail and needing a job to pay for damage to a bar. Her mom arranges her to have a job at the doctor office where she works but never did she expect the man in charge, Dr. Scott, to be a sexy and intimating man who gets her blood boiling. Only 29 years old Scott is much younger than she expected a man running his own practice to be and while he can infuriate her like no other she also desperately wants to see what he looks like naked.
‘His desire for her made him feel vulnerable and self-conscious. And he fucking hated it.’
Lauren and Scott hooked me with their banter and quick wit and excited me with the fact that they could sets the sheets afire. The first book in the series I am instantly hooked and eager to read more of these interconnected standalones!

Forget Me Not Anthology Review
4 Smooches
Synopsis
10 artists auditioning for a shot at working with the Reed Brothers
10 skins, each with a story to tell
10 perfect tattoos so they’ll never forget
A little bit of healing
A whole lot of heart
An anthology of ten short stories by ten different authors who are donating 100% of the proceeds to benefit Alzheimer’s and brain health. Join Tammy Falkner, Jane Charles, Ava Stone, Marquita Valentine, Lexi Eddings, Lj Charles, Andris Bear, Jerrica Knight-Catania, Caren Crane and Diane Franks to help combat this terrible disease.
Tammy Falkner: All About Adam – “So you see, there was this man…” All good stories start like that. Except this one. “… There was this man, and he broke my heart.”
Andris Bear: Inked – The only thing officer Brent Copeland wants when he enters Reeds’ is some fresh ink to honor his fallen partner. But when he comes face to face with Honor Sloan, a hellcat he arrested six months ago, he must confront the mistakes of his past if he is to have any chance at a future.
Jane Charles: Rattled – She enters the tattoo shop with an envelope full of memories and a heart filled with longing. What she leaves with is more than she dreamed of, and it just might be the first step to healing the wounds of the past.
LJ Charles: Burned – Fred’s agony over past mistakes is so overwhelming he craves a reminder of them—one that will be burned into his flesh forever. Little does he know the past is about to explode into present-day reality.
Ava Stone: Hold Me Tight – Film student Seth Elliott can hardly believe his luck when Molly Wolfe, a pretty face from his past, stumbles into the Reeds’ looking for a tattoo to remember her brother. Finding her after so many years is even better than any of the classic movies he loves so much.
Lexi Eddings – Coldwater Blues – Michael Evans is the poster boy for trouble on two legs. After losing the one person who ever believed he’d amount to anything, he hitches his way across country to the Big Apple, convinced he can outrun the mistakes that forced him to leave his hometown. But as his dear Gran always said, “Wherever you go, Mike, there you are…”
Jerrica Knight Catania: The Knot – Ethan Masters never imagined he’d go for a girl with a tattoo, but when he learns the story behind Madison Kennedy’s mysterious design, all he wants to do is take care of her. But Madison is still struggling with great loss in her life, and is terrified of getting close to anyone ever again, especially someone as perfect as Ethan Masters.
Marquita Valentine: Skin Deep – After one reckless night ends in tragedy, Scottish rugby player Maddox Stuart turned his back on his former life, leaving everything behind, but when the girl he left behind ends up as his client in the Reed Brother’s shop, Maddox is forced to face his demons.
Caren Crane: Lakewood Confidential – Tondra is struggling for attention on the New York art scene when a chance to ink notorious hip-hop legend Lakewood lands in her desperate hands. The reclusive rapper shares a part of his history he’s never told anyone, forcing Tondra to choose between ensuring her own success and safeguarding Lakewood’s secrets.
Diane Franks: The Way Back – He’s not the man he used to be. She’s desperate to find a way to bring him back to her. She needs a tattoo to help her remember. She needs a tattoo so he won’t forget.
Review
Being a HUGE fan of Tammy Falkner and the Reed brothers I was super excited to see both Tammy and other authors take on the chairs at the Reed’s tattoo shop and get some heartfelt and uplifting stories out of them. Telling the tales of 10 people getting tattoos to commemorate something special to them we meet a large ensemble of characters. With 10 new artists auditioning for a chair at the Reeds shop as well as a spot on their reality show, they must prove themselves by delivering the best tattoo they have ever done.
The anthology starts off with a bang with Tammy Falkner’s story featuring the much hated, April (Matt’s ex-girlfriend who left him when he got sick) but each story that follows is just as gripping and all of them are topped full of emotion. Having never read most of these authors I can honestly say I have now added a ton of their books to my TBR since each story in this set was artfully written and impossible to put down.

Marissa didn’t follow me. It was most likely she had pieced together our story after Blake’s song. How could she not? It was as if he had weaved our entire relationship into his lyrics. I could feel his sixteen-year-old self singing every line to my sixteen-year-old self. Although, I was pretty certain the sixteen-year-old Blake I’d known then had no clue how to play the guitar.
After washing the tearstains from my face, I brushed my teeth. It was still early, but I couldn’t face going back out there, so I changed into my shorts and tank top and climbed into bed. Sleep would be impossible, but at least here, I was safe.
Most people felt lonely in solitude, but I welcomed the silence. I embraced it even. Something about the quiet, the knowledge no one else was around, comforted me. I knew it made me different. I didn’t need a shrink to tell me that, but it didn’t change the fact that I found sanctuary in being alone.
I lay there not really allowing myself to think. Thinking was dangerous; it led to remembering, and my memories were stained with pain and hurt and the kinds of things that made most people’s nightmares look like a walk in the park. Instead, I tracked the uneven cabin ceiling. My eyes followed the planes of the wood from one end to the other and back again until they grew heavy.
A knock on the door startled me sending my already restless heart into overdrive and I rubbed at my eyes.
“Hello?” I called out hoping to hear Marissa’s voice, but I knew it wasn’t her. She wouldn’t have knocked; she would have barged right in and demanded answers.
“Penny, it’s me.”
I squeezed my eyes shut, but my mind betrayed me as an image of Blake’s face filled my head.
Another knock.
“Penny.”
Forcing myself to sit up, I swung my legs over the edge of the bed. He wasn’t going away. Blake—our connection—was something I was going to have to deal with sooner or later, and from Blake’s admissions over the last few days, it seemed that he was making the decision for me.
My legs were like lead as I walked to the door. It swung open and Blake stood there looking at me with such reverence in his eyes I almost crumpled. Maybe I did crumple because, before my head had time to process what was happening, I was in Blake’s arms, and he was holding on to me like he needed me to breathe.
“I’ve missed you so much. I’ve tried to stay away, to give you space, but I can’t. I can’t spend another day feeling like you might slip through my fingers again.”
One of Blake’s hands buried itself in my hair and cradled my head holding me to him. My face pressed up against the collar of his hoodie, and I breathed him in. He smelled familiar, like damp grass and fresh air, of a time when things were less complicated, and my heart ached for us. At that moment, we weren’t two strangers reunited by chance; we were sixteen-year-old Blake and Penny.
And we needed each other to survive.

Review
“We had dreams and hopes for the future, just like any other sixteen-year-old kid. Except we weren’t like most other kids.”
Penny Wilson arrived at Freeman house a scared and devastated twelve-year-old girl. Her world had just imploded around her with the tragic death of her parents in a car accident. She may have walked away from the accident without any visible injuries, but she definitely had emotional wounds. With no family or friends to take her in, alone and afraid, she was thrust into the foster care system and sent to the group home run by the evil Derrick and Marie Freeman.
“Penny was the only good thing in my life. She was all that I needed. My lucky Penny.”
Blake Weston was twelve years old when Penny walked into his otherwise dark and dreary existence. A resident at Freeman house for a few years now, Blake had arrived at Freeman house following the death of his mother and the imprisonment of his drug-dealing father.
“Sometime in the last two years, my best friend had become my reason for breathing. My everything.”
Blake was immediately draw to Penny and was the first one to reach out to her there on her first day at Freeman house. Over the next four years, their friendship grew and flourished. They were able to withstand the awful treatment they endured at the hands of the Freemans, their foster parents, with each other to lean on. Inevitably, their friendship grew and eventually blossomed into young love. Under the stars during late night sneak outs, Blake and Penny bared their young souls, shared their hopes and dreams and planned for the time when they’d be free. Until the day it all changed and Blake left Freeman House behind without a single word to Penny. That’s when her real nightmare began.
“It was time to move forward and to let myself heal.”
Seven years later, three failed relationship attempts, no friends and a minimum wage job that barely supports her, Penny is still working through her issues with the help of a therapist. She’s leaving for the summer to work at Camp Chance, a summer camp for kids in the foster care system. This will be her fresh start; this is her chance to heal. What she wasn’t expecting – at all – was to see Blake there as another counselor. They spend the summer slowly – awkwardly – getting reacquainted and inevitably reconnecting. Until, on what was the last night of camp, Blake suddenly leaves. Again.
“And here I was again. Alone.”
With the summer over, Penny returns back to her life. With a new, better-paying job, a cleaned up apartment, she is determined to continue taking baby steps forward in her healing process. She worked hard on herself this summer, and she would not let Blake’s leaving her behind again to set her back. That was until, while working one night, one of those baby steps lands her right in the path of Blake and his new world.
“I should have listened to the little voice in my head. It was always right. If things seemed to good to be true…they usually were.”
Unable to keep away, Blake tracks Penny down. They start to have the conversations that they should have had over the summer. When the truth of what really happened comes out, will Blake choose Penny, or has his life become too complicated? Will their love for each other be strong enough to weather their differences? Will Penny be able to overcome her fears and let go of the past to take another chance with Blake?
“Blake already owned my heart. He always had. But could I give him my damaged soul?”
L.A. Cotton has written a very poignant, coming of age story in Lucky Penny. These two recognized the other halves of their souls in each other at a very young age. Circumstances, outside forces and time all collided to tear them apart, but the real story was in their coming back together. Ms. Cotton did a great job of taking the reader along for the ride as Blake and Penny dealt with all that happened between them and to them. Heartbreaking and heart healing combine four heart-warming smooches from me!
