Review

I honestly don’t know what to write about this short story, yet again I see definite potential with this author but unfortunately it just doesn’t transpire here.  All the elements of a great love story are present, the complicated feelings for your best friend, the sexual tension and the subtle flirtation and outright propositioning and witty banter, however in Release Me we are taken on a journey of self-discovery and learning to love and trust again; a journey I never really saw coming, what we ended up getting was a tale about a pretty confused heroine called Lucy learning to let go of some hero worship for her intended love interest, Gage, who in actual fact turns out to be the biggest jerk I’ve had the displeasure to fantasise about.  I did like the actual hero of the piece, Phoenix, he had a kick-ass name and treated Lucy like a goddamn princess,  although he came across as almost too perfect; a restaurateur, sexy as sin and had intense and romantic feelings towards our intrepid heroine- this guy even kisses the backs of hands like a throwback die hard romanticist.

Lucy at times showed remarkably poor judgement and at one point I figured she was going to be another silly simpering girl and use her hormones to accomplish the foolish, but thankfully she turned her character around and managed to redeem herself.

At times I thought the pace was picking up and we were finally getting the romance I had expected with a good dose of drama to kick start the storyline, while at other points I felt incredibly let down by the stilted and often immature dialogue which took away my enjoyment of the novella over all.

I know I’ve said before but I have to reiterate this: I hate giving negative reviews but I also feel I need to be honest because what doesn’t work for me might be the next best thing in Indie land for someone else.  It was a passable read but I also wouldn’t keep it lying around on my Kindle either.

Nuts is the first book in a BRAND NEW series by Alice Clayton focusing in a small upstate town in New York. Packed full of charm, wit and hysterical situations Nuts was a hit with me from page one. I have read quite a few of Alice’s books and can easily say this is one of my favorites so far. Sexier than I anticipated I was excited by the chemistry and passion between Roxie and Leo and how well mixed the humor, sex and drama all mixed to make one delightful story.

“You smell like honey and taste like heaven.”

Roxie moved away from home right after high school and landed in LA working hard to establish herself as a successful personal chef. But a blip in her career happens at the same time her mom needs her to come help fun the family dinner lands Roxie right back in the small town she ran from for the summer. While everything seems to always stay the same in the Hudson Valley there does seem to be one new sexy edition. Leo is the new co-op farmer in the town and his lumber-sexual look along with the muscles hours in the field have given him have all the local girls swooning. But from the moment they (hysterically) meet it seems clear that Leo is only out to have the attention of one girl.

Roxie makes it clear from the beginning that whatever it is developing between her and Leo is just for the summer and all seems well and good but when two people mesh so perfectly nothing is ever that simple. Roxie was strong, independent and confident. It was clear in the years she spent away from home helped mold her into a modern woman. But the more she in the small town the more her klutzy nature and awkward personality seem to seep out. Leo is wonderfully mysterious and deviously handsome. Full of his own secrets and turbulent past Leo brings both the sexy and a good dose of drama to this light easy read.

A wonderful start to a new and exciting series. I loved Nuts and I am desperately excited for Cream. Oscar and Natalie both grabbed my attention in this story and I cannot wait to see how the strong, silent and grumpy dairy farmer develops into a sexy book boyfriend.

‘What an asshole. Tyson Reed had to be one of the worst men she’d come in contact with . . . ever. He was arrogant, cocky, and rude.’

Fighter books are a guilty pleasure of mine so when I saw this second book on Netgalley I jumped on it. Tyson was the alpha mean man I expected and looked forward to. Parker is trying to get back to the Hollywood starlet status she once held but has lost since her break up with a famous director. After finally finding the role she thinks will get her there she has just weeks to train to look and act like a female MMA fighter. She turns to the one man she thinks can get her there, Tyson Reed. One problem, Tyson wants nothing to do with the starlet who just walked in his door despite his instant attraction to the sexy blonde.

“Why is it that you’re the last thing I need right now, but the only fucking thing I want?”

I enjoyed all the individual elements of this story. I liked both the heroine and hero but together I just did not feel the connection. I was more wrapped up in the subplots around Conner and Dane than I was invested in Parker and Tyson.  I seem to be in the minority here so maybe it is just a case of not the right book for the right reviewer. Still an enjoyable fast and easy read and I am actually really excited to read Dane’s book.

There is nothing but water and silence and the most dangerous man she’s ever met. And a dead body. It occurs to her that this was a stupid fucking decision.

Jacobs holds up a hand and Josh pulls back on the throttle, slowing the boat until it idles in near silence, pulled along by the waves. For a long moment, no one says anything.

“Now what?” Charlie murmurs.

Jacobs smiles, and stands. Even on a boat in the middle of the fucking swampy bayou, he moves with a grace that makes her want to claw his eyes out or fuck him. True Divide is the third standalone in the True series by Liora Blake.I first discovered this series on Netgalley and have been hooked since the first book. I am often hesitant to grab published books because more often than not I am let down and left feeling like it could have just been more. Not the case with this book, and series, as it is full of drama, emotion, character growth and supreme intense sexual chemistry.

I am seriously in love with this series.  I didn’t think that I could possibly like book two better than I did book one but I do.  Oh God, It is so hilarious and I just freaking love the banter between King and Margo.  Their attraction is so off the charts it is almost enough to rival their verbal sparring.  This blend of love and hate is heady combination.

‘It’s a horrible position to be in when you find your enemy insanely attractive.’

And as you know from the huge cliffy at the end of Naughty King, shit just got real and oh, how the tables have turned because it seems that now Margo may have King by the balls and he simply cannot stand it.

‘I can’t believe I’m married to the fucking Feisty Princess of Manhattan.  How in the hell did I allow this to happen?’

This story just keeps getting better and better with each installment and I am simply hooked.  It is angsty and sexy and all of that is broken up with some really funny bits courtesy of King’s bestie, Yamada!  I just love his character and he is utterly insane but I just cannot get enough of him.  If you are looking for a fun and sexy read, than this one is a must read and I cannot wait to see what happens next as this one ended with a bit of a cliff hanger too!
