Excerpt:

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Why didn’t I ever learn to cook? One of the many downsides of losing my mother young is I never learned how to cook things like a turkey. I have a cookbook, but it’s completely useless! Stuffed vs. unstuffed. Did I brine? What the hell is brine? I just need to know how many minutes per pound and at what temperature, but the damn cookbook is American, and my turkey is in grams and the oven is in Celsius. Fuck the damn metric system!

Hazel’s gone, and Gavin is probably as useless as I am. My computer and iPad are both in the solarium where my very tired boyfriend is sleeping. However, I spy Gavin’s briefcase in the front hall. Digging around in it for his iPad, I find a little box. A little robin’s-egg-blue box. His briefcase slips from my hands as I stare at the little box of impending doom.

NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. I have a turkey to cook and a kitchen to try to not burn down. I can’t think about little blue boxes. My cell phone ringing in the distance makes me jump and throw the box across the room as if it’s a venomous snake. Ignoring my phone, I crawl around searching for the box so I can return it to its hiding place, hopefully for a very long time. I give great consideration to “misplacing” the box. No box means no ring. No ring means no proposal. No proposal means not having to think about things that suck the oxygen out of my lungs. Instead, I grab the iPad and walk away, trying to pretend I never saw that box and that I won’t have to have a marriage conversation soon. Denial is beautiful.

The iPad and I figure out a plan for the turkey, and I stick it in the oven. I make the sign of the cross in front of the oven, praying not to burn down the house or give us all salmonella. My phone won’t stop ringing, so I have to go on a treasure hunt to try to find it. In a house with so much stone and marble, sounds echo off the walls, making it hard to figure out exactly where my phone is. Eventually I find it in the library.

“Where the hell have you been?” Em screams.

“Sorry, I lost my phone, and hide-and-seek is next to impossible in this house. Once you get here, you’ll understand. It’s bigger than Sacred Heart was.”

“Hmmm.” She’s trying to sound bored, but I know she’s curious. “I’ll be there soon, I think. The GPS says less than an hour.”

“See you soon.”

Over an hour and a half later, Em arrives. When I open the door, she says, “It’s a fucking castle, Lily. You didn’t tell me it was a castle.” Her driver brings in her bags and sets them by the door.

She hands him a tip. He tips his hat and closes the door as he leaves. I glare at her. “You couldn’t have rented a car? You made the poor man work on Christmas?”

“Don’t look at me like that,” she replies. “That man now has five hundred more bucks in his pocket to spend on Christmas. That’s how the economy works.” She hands me her coat. “Now, show me the loo. That drive from the airport is a bitch.”

While she freshens up, I put together some nosh food and pour some juice.

She walks over to the fridge and starts rummaging around. “Do you have any champagne to go with this juice? I’ll even take some vodka if you have some chilled.”

“I have no idea, but you can check. You’ll be drinking on your own, though. I’m still waking up. Too early for me to start drinking. If I start now, I’ll be asleep before everyone gets here.”

She shrugs. “Yeah, you’re probably right.” A devilish look crosses her face. “Stay here. I have something for you.” She runs back to her bags in the entrance. When she returns she hands me a box wrapped in black wrapping paper.

“What is this? You don’t do presents.” I shake the box but can’t tell what it is.

“No, I don’t. But I had this brilliant idea and had to get it. As you can tell by the wrapping, this is not a holiday gift.”

I tear the wrapping off and laugh hysterically. “What the hell is this, Em?” It’s a package of five dolls that look creepily like Gavin.

She looks at me like I’m crazy. “What do you mean? It’s the Gavin Doll collection. There’s Tux Gavin, G. I. Gavin, Alpha CEO Gavin, Sexually Frustrated Gavin, notice the short running shorts, and Club Gavin. If you push the button on the back it goes ‘unce unce unce.’”

I try to say “What the fuck,” but I’m laughing too hard to formulate the words.

“You always describe Gavin like he’s a Ken doll, and I have a friend in the doll biz. Open it up. I made sure he’s anatomically correct.”

My jaw drops. “You didn’t!” I tear open the package.

She pulls out Sexually Frustrated Gavin and lowers his pants. “Since I don’t have first-hand experience, I had to guess on the dimensions. I tried to be generous. Was I right?”

Blush scorches my cheeks.

“What?” she asks. “Bigger?”

I smirk. “Yeah, bigger. Much bigger.”

She stares at the now naked Gavin doll. “Damn.”

I grab the doll from her. “Stop ogling my boyfriend.”

Synopsis

He will give her everything she’s ever wanted . . .

Jack Powell’s confidence is matched only by his intensity. The darkness in him comes from years of secrets and memories he’d rather forget. Lana has an exotic innocence that draws him in and Jack wants a taste of her. She’s a light in the darkness of his world – and she needs help, which he agrees to.

The only rule? He makes the rules.

Lana gives up her control, letting Jack take her body however he needs, while she works her way into his heart. But Jack’s past catches up to them and Lana finds herself wrapped up in a scheme that will expose every secret she’s worked so hard to keep. She clung to Jack once when her world was crashing down, but this time, she loves him. She’ll continue to reach for him – her only fear is if he’ll reach back, or go on his way, taking her soul with him . . .

Addictive and unforgettable, Jack and Lana’s story will seduce, surprise and stay with you. A brand new romance by the #1 bestselling author of Break Me Slowly, this is an emotional roller coaster you’ll want to keep riding forever.

Review

“I wanted more. Wanted to be more. Wanted that powerful heat that started with a look, a kiss, and surged through my veins, leaving me feeling hot and strong. I got a taste of that last week. I needed the heat. Craved it.”

I was asked by a good friend and fellow book lover to give this book a try. Since she and I have similar taste I figured, even though I had never read a Joya Ryan book before, why not? Now, to up the fun even more I decided to go in completely blind and not read the synopsis or any of the reviews for the book. I don’t do this often because I like to know what I am getting myself into but I will tell you I was completely surprised and excited for what I got.

“Stop thinking, there’s nothing to be sorry about. Feeling you come, tasting it, is the highlight of my fucking year.”

All I knew about this book going in was the tagline “Not every love story is meant to last . . . “ Wow, ok now that doesn’t sound HEAish at all so I was a bit worried. I did know that this was book one in a trilogy so I did have some hope for an HEA by the end. I won’t ruin it and tell you how that goes but I survived the tagline.

“On a scale of one to ten how nervous do I make you feel?”  “Five,” ” And is it a hot or cold nervous?”  “Hot.”

Having read Fifty Shades of Grey, Bared To You, This Man and many others along those lines I will say that this story fits right into that genre. Lana is a young twenty something girl with little experience who because of an event n her past is skittish around men and very innocent sexually. Jack Powell is the CEO of his company, confident and loves control. He does seem to have one weak spot and that is for the young innocent girl he met in a bar and instantly felt a connection too.

“Give me a number.”

While all men make Lana nervous, Jack makes her a new and exciting kind a nervous. As  he likes to say it a Hot nervous not a Cold nervous. Soon she finds out that her new summer job happens to be at his company and she doesn’t seem to know if this scares or excites her. These two have amazing chemisty. When Lana is around dominating Jack seems to soften just a bit and Closed off and Innocent Lana opens up and finally starts living life with Jack guiding her.

“Understand one thing: I will push your limits, but I will never hurt you.”

Joya’s writing was exciting and captivating. I read this book straight through in one sitting, much to dismay of my hungry family. I needed to know how all the drama and secrets played out and if these two people who to me felt like they needed to be together could get past it all or if the tag line was true and some loves can’t last. I will say after looking the other books up I am very happy that she is releasing them quickly and I for one will be early awaiting their arrival on my kindle.

“I was his captive. And I liked it.”

EXCERPT:

SUNNY

When we reached my room, we wasted no time at all. Xander closed my door, locking the dead bolt before pulling me in by the waist and kissing my neck.

“You taste good,” he murmured.

I held back a cringe as I couldn’t imagine what I could possibly taste like, knowing I’d been sweating for hours.

“Can I help you out of your costume?” he asked, pulling on the strings of my corset. I nodded and he pulled on the strings again, loosening the fabric from my torso. Once the corset had fallen to the floor, he removed the white blouse and slid my skirt down to my ankles.

“Xan, maybe—” I said, feeling hesitant.

“Are you still, you know?”

“A virgin?” I asked.

“Yeah.”

I nodded.

“Are you sure we can’t take care of that?” His lips tickled the fleshy portion of my ear. I could feel his breath lingering on my skin.

“I’m sure.”

Even drunk, I wasn’t ready to have sex. I didn’t consider myself a late bloomer, but being the romantic person that I was, I wanted, no I needed to wait until I was with someone I truly loved. That was a priority to me. And so, as good as his lips felt against my skin, and as turned on as I was, standing in my bra and underwear in the middle of my dorm room, I was not about to compromise.

“Okay, well, we can still have fun, right?” he asked with a chuckle.

“What’d you have in mind?” I asked, playing hard to get. After dating him for a few months, I knew exactly what he had in mind.

“You know…a little of this, a little of that,” he said, looking at the bed.

“I could probably arrange that,” I said, acting coy.

“Good.” He ran his fingers through my hair, then asked, “Which one is yours,” gesturing to the beds.

Taking his hand in mine, I led him to my bed.

“Lay down,” he said. And I did.

Xander’s hands drifted up my belly as he kissed my belly button, lowering his head little by little, taking his time, making me crazy.

Desire flooded my abdomen. I wanted him, needed him.

“Beg me,” he said.

“What?” I asked, panting, pulling my head from the pillow. “Don’t be a dick.”

Xander flashed me a grin, then said, “I’m just kidding.”

Then he ran his tongue down, down, down until I was thrusting my head back into the pillow, clenching my teeth and enjoying every teasing touch from his eager tongue. Within seconds, I came. And a few seconds after that, I was mortified.

“That was fast,” he said.

“You’re way too proud of yourself,” I said, trying so hard not to show how embarrassed I was.

“I love that I still have that effect on you.” He stroked my inner thighs with his fingertips, still way too proud of what he’d accomplished in less than a minute.

“Whatever.” I laughed, sitting up and running my fingers through my hair. “You’re so cocky.”

Xander gave me a lopsided grin. “With good reason.”

“Will you ever change?”

“Probably not,” he said with a chuckle. After we sat together in silence for a few seconds, he turned serious. “Do you, like, want me to go or something?”

His question surprised me. I couldn’t imagine Xander leaving without being satisfied. He’d taken care of me and was asking nothing in return? Weird.

“No.” I shook my head and pushed my hands into his chest, easing us down to the bed. My hand gripped his zipper.

“Seriously, Sun. It’s okay,” he said. “I know you like to take it slow.” He took my hand from his jeans and pulled me down so my head rested against his chest.

“Oh,” I said. “Are you sure?”

“My balls will never forgive me, but yeah.” His chest vibrated as he chuckled. “I’ve put you through enough, don’t you think?”

I said nothing, knowing that even though my instinct would be to dismiss what he said, I couldn’t do it. He’d hurt me. Like, really hurt me. And I wasn’t ready to let him back in. Besides, who knew if he actually wanted to be let in.

He kissed the top of my head. “’Night.”

Xander snored quietly beside me as I stared up at the ceiling. I was sure he wouldn’t be there when I woke up. He was my weakness, and I had been extremely weak.

I surprised myself, though. As I drifted off to sleep, visions of Sawyer popped into my head, not Xander.

Good Lord, I was in such a bad place. I had one guy in my bed and another lurking in my heart.

Just as I suspected, when I woke the next morning, Xander was gone. Some things never changed.

Review

Diving head first into books without reading the synopsis seems to be my specialty these days and so far it’s worked wonders as with my latest literary adventure in Sorority of Three by Melissa Brown. With SOT I was treated to a really unexpected and unique love story because this tale may have had the trials and tribulations of College dating, Facebook relationship statuses and the art of flirting for shy girls but at the core of it all SOT was a love story involving three best friends, all diverse, all with completely varied personalities and attitudes and each struggling with some complex inner issue. The love shared and tested and formed through these three girls, Claudia, Grace and Sunny was so beautiful to read, the realism and emotion that Melissa poured into her words and how she shaped and moulded the characters individuality draws you in to their multifaceted lives.

“He’s not a bad guy. He was honest about his girlfriend.” I gave her a mock glare. “After we met, after we had coffee.”

“So he was confused. He’s human.” Grace shrugged. “I know you want the fairy tale, Sun but I don’t think either of us is getting rescued.”

Although I identified with socially awkward dating disaster Grace, often cringing in embarrassment at her poor character, Sunny’s often comical and perky nature added that light entertainment quality to the story with the raw emotional struggles landing on the stunning Claudia’s doorstep. All three girls face their own form of adversity whether it is social interaction, flirting, choosing the right man, trusting your own instincts, getting to know yourself, accepting and loving those beautiful differences in yourself or just what to wear to a Frat party, the sisterhood was so lovely to experience without the quintessential sorority house setting. The only thing lacking for me in the story was the romantic leads with the exception of Libby and maybe Ross. The men kind of fell flat for me, there was nothing redeemable or memorable about any aspect of them, they were average Joe’s with pretty bland personalities but I guess that offered up more realism to Grace, Sunny and Claudia’s stories because let’s face it not everyone is going to arrive at college and meet a ripped rock-star or an Adonis-looking business mogul.

The writing and dialogue was impeccable, Melissa sure knows how to construct a world of turmoil, angst and drama carefully balancing it with lighter moments, tender and often sweet times between not only the girls but in the romantic woes and wins they experience. It did leave it rather open ended and I hate to use the word cliff-hanger but it comes pretty close. Needless to say I cannot wait to continue my vicarious exploits with these girls in the next instalment.

Opening the door, I find Dante and Sabrina on the other side.  Swinging it wide, I smile broadly as I gesture for them to come it.

“Exton’s been out all day at a production meeting, but—“

“We need to sit down and talk.”

I’m shocked by the serious expression on Dante’s face, but instead of questioning him, I follow as he leads me into Exton’s living room.  Dropping down on to a chair, I wait for him to fill me in.  As Sabrina takes a seat on the arm of the chair and sets a reassuring hand on my shoulder, my stomach sinks.  Something is wrong.

Raking a hand through his hair, Dante lets out a frustrated sigh.  “There’s no easy way to say this, so I’m just going to give it to you straight.  Exton’s been arrested for assault. He’s in jail.”

Jumping from my seat I cry out in shock. “What the hell are we doing sitting?  We need to go get him out!”

“There’s nothing that we can do until tomorrow,” He answers. “His bail hearing will happen in the morning.  I need you to pack so that we can be there.”

Looking over at Sabrina, I try to comprehend what’s going on. “I don’t understand—what?  Why would we need to fly?”

“That would be because he’s being held at the Small Towne police department.”

Excerpt…

Unable to comprehend that I was having this discussion with somebody I’d only just met, I could only gape in astonishment. I had never discussed my mother with anyone—ever. It was as though I’d been completely removed from reality. I needed to get a grip. “I’m sorry, do you mind if we talk about something else?”

A flash of something, regret, disappointment maybe, momentarily furrowed his brow. “If you’d prefer. I didn’t mean to cause you further distress.”

“No, its fine. It’s just that I don’t usually … I’m not used to … Damn!” I cursed at my sudden inability to form a complete sentence. “God, I’m sorry. I don’t usually struggle with the art of speaking. I seem to have lost all capacity to function properly.”

He smiled widely, the most wonderful, captivating smile that started out in his eyes before making its way to his delectable mouth. The sexiest smile I’d ever encountered. And then he was laughing, and I was laughing with him.

“You’re exquisite,” he said as the laughter abated, head tilted slightly to the side as if contemplating me. “Even more so than I remembered. I’ve seen three very different and dramatic sides to you, already, Miss Lawson. All of them conflicting and at odds with each other—and all of them equally exquisite. You fascinate me.”

I flushed slightly at his flattering comments. “Three sides?”

“Yes,” he said. “You’re exhilaratingly beautiful when you’re relaxed and laughing in the spirit of the moment, yet delicately beautiful when sad and vulnerable.” He paused, his awed expression changing to something much darker and more sensual. “And you’re at your most beguiling and spellbinding when you’re surrendering yourself to your most sensual and carnal desires. A woman who knows what she wants and is daring enough to explore her fantasies in order to satisfy her cravings is an enormous turn-on. Being part of that experience was the most erotic moment of my life. It drove me crazy when you came for me. You’re the sexiest, most exciting woman I have ever met—or fucked, Miss Lawson.”

Christ, say what’s on your mind, why don’t you? This man clearly had no problems communicating his feelings candidly. I gazed at him, utterly dumbfounded and burning with embarrassment.

“And so easily disconcerted, I see.” A hint of amusement trickled over his luscious lips. “I wouldn’t have figured that on Monday night. Yet another alluring trait, Miss Lawson. You’re full of surprises. Quite simply irresistible.”

“I’m just adjusting to your candidness, Mr. Wilde.”

“Does it upset you?

I paused, thinking about the question. “No.” I answered honestly. Because if anything, I was finding his forthright approach a complete turn on. “But I’ve only met you once before and, until ten minutes ago, wasn’t sure I’d ever lay eyes on you again.”

“Did you hope that you would?”

“You ask a lot of questions.” I smiled in my attempt at digression. “Let me ask you some.”

“Go ahead.” He sipped his coffee, casually unconcerned.

“Who the hell are you?”

Laughing, he reached out to shake my hand formally, his touch sending a current of vibrating sexual energy through my body. “Ethan Wilde, twenty-nine, born in New York. My parents are Richard and Veronica Wilde. I have one brother, Damon, twenty-six. One sister, Abby, twenty-two. I was educated and spent most of my early life in London, as you’ve probably guessed, and I’ve been back and forth between here and the UK ever since. I now live more or less permanently here in Manhattan. Next question.”

“Do you always psychoanalyze and cross-examine the women you casually fuck in storage rooms?” Wow, where the hell did that come from?

A flicker of his brow hinted at surprise. “Well, now it’s I who needs to adjust to your candidness, Miss Lawson. But in answer to your question, I’ve never fucked anybody—casually or otherwise—in a storage room before. Furthermore, until now, nobody’s interested me enough to want to psychoanalyze them … if that’s what I’m doing. You’re a totally unique experience, Angelica.”

5-Star Reader Reviews….

“When I initially agreed to review Bound for Hell I can honestly say I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. Now days it seems like a lot of the books start to blend together. So I’ll be completely honest in saying I didn’t know what to expect. But anything I could’ve ever imagined feeling for this books, times that by a million and it still wouldn’t be enough. Let’s just say this. I freaking loved this book…I’m grateful I had the chance to read Bound for Hell. I truly hope you’ll give this series a try. I would have been missing a hell of a lot if I hadn’t!” ~ Love Words and Books, Goodreads

“This novel blew me away! I found the instant connection between the two characters like something out of a movie. You can almost imagine the sparks flying. There are some tender moments between the two and of course LOTS of heat! And I mean Kindle melting heat! The story kept me wanting more and there were moments when I laughed ( a certain scene with a DVD), moments when I cried and when I was so angry I couldn’t see straight! Kendra Leigh is a fantastic writer and this debut novel from her is amazing. I cannot wait to read the next novel in this series! ~ Book Nerd, Goodreads

“This well written story will embrace your heart and keep it beating with suspense. Kendra Leigh includes hot love scenes, instant attraction, and mystery to keep you turning the pages. I could not put this book down and look forward to the rest of the trilogy. Thankfully, there is no cliffhanger to leave me anxious and angry for book two. However, not knowing the ending to this modern day fairytale leaves plenty to be wanted. I look forward to more books from Kendra Leigh.” ~ Jessica B., Goodreads

Synopsis

The next dark and sexy romantic suspense novel from the USA Today bestselling author of Unteachable.

It only took one moment of weakness for Laney Keating’s world to fall apart. One stupid gesture for a hopeless crush. Then the rumors began. Slut, they called her. Queer. Psycho. Mentally ill, messed up, so messed up even her own mother decided she wasn’t worth sticking around for.

If Laney could erase that whole year, she would. College is her chance to start with a clean slate.

She’s not looking for new friends, but they find her: charming, handsome Armin, the only guy patient enough to work through her thorny defenses—and fiery, filterless Blythe, the bad girl and partner in crime who has thorns of her own.

But Laney knows nothing good ever lasts. When a ghost from her past resurfaces—the bully who broke her down completely—she decides it’s time to live up to her own legend. And Armin and Blythe are going to help.

Which was the plan all along.

Because the rumors are true. Every single one. And Laney is going to show them just how true.

She’s going to show them all.

Review

God, what can I say about this book? This is a really hard one to review because I loved it, I hated it, it made me think, it made me crazy.

“April is the cruelest month, T.S. Eliot said, and that’s because it kills.”

Ahh! I feel like I had a bit of an advantage because before I started Black Iris, I looked at the reviews. The reviews are kind of all over the place and people were saying the timeline was confusing and that it wasn’t like Unteachable. So I went in with the mindset that I needed to pay close attention to the timeline. I knew that I needed to read every word and focus closely on this one. I tried not to expect Unteachable. After all, just because an author writes an epically awesome student teacher romance, doesn’t mean that all of her books are going to be exactly the same. I altered my frame of mind about this book and I really think that it made all the difference. Because I really enjoyed Black Iris. I think that Leah Raeder made sure that this book was not your traditional NA romance.

“Maybe I’m a little bitter. And maybe this isn’t your typical college romance novel.”

This is more of a romantic suspense, a book where the revenge is 99% of the theme.

“I bottle my hate until it ferments into poison, and then I get high off the fumes.”

This book is incredibly dark. The subject matter heavy and intense. I guess you could say it is a love triangle of sorts; with a plot that is demented and twisty. The timeline did definitely skip around. The whole book I was questioning exactly what the hell was going on but I couldn’t stop. I had to know. Every page revealed another secret or truth, if you will, that made me stop and think, contemplate why this was happening and where in the hell this was all going.

“Don’t do it, Laney. You’re better than this.”

I felt like a my own little romance private investigator. I kept making guesses and trying to figure out how the whole crazy and screwed up story would play out. In the end, I never guessed and I am usually a pro at figuring out what is going to happen. Leah kept me on my toes until the very very end.

Another problem traditional romance readers might have with Black Iris is that the characters have no redeeming qualities and I am not joking when I say this. These people do awful things time and time again and get away with it. Even in the end, there really isn’t a moral or value that these young people learn. What I got out of it is that hate breeds hate mostly and that most people are both equal parts good and bad and given certain circumstances anyone could be REALLY bad.

What can I say really? This was just crazy and I probably enjoyed it a little too much. I don’t know what that says about me because it was really effed up! LIKE REALLY! Of course, Leah’s writing was impeccable, all prosaic and flowery just like I expected and the story is definitely one that will keep you interested. I am giving this one 4.5 stars.

“Scars tell a story. My whole life was written on my body. How are you supposed to leave the past behind when you carry it with you in your skin.?”

About BECOMING RAIN:

Luke Boone doesn’t know exactly what his uncle Rust is involved in but he wants in on it-the cars, the money, the women. And it looks like he’s finally getting his wish. When Rust hands him the managerial keys to the garage, they come with a second set-one that opens up the door to tons of cash and opportunity. Though it’s not exactly legal, Luke’s never been one to worry about that sort of thing. Especially when it puts him behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 and onto the radar of gorgeous socialite named Rain.

Clara Bertelli is at the top of her game-at only twenty-six years old, she’s one of the most successful undercover officers in the Washington D.C. major crime unit, and she’s just been handed a case that could catapult her career and expose one of the west coast’s most notorious car theft rings. But, in order to do it, she’ll need to go deep undercover as Rain Martines. Her target? The twenty-four-year old nephew of a key player who appears ready to follow in his uncle’s footsteps.

As Clara drifts deeper into the luxurious lifestyle of Rain, and further into the arms of her very attractive and charming target, the lines between right and wrong start to blur, making her wonder if she’ll be able to leave it all behind. Or if she’ll even want to.

About BURYING WATER:

The top-selling, beloved indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths returns with a new romance about a young woman who loses her memory—and the man who knows that the only way to protect her is to stay away.

Left for dead in the fields of rural Oregon, a young woman defies all odds and survives—but she awakens with no idea who she is, or what happened to her. Refusing to answer to “Jane Doe” for another day, the woman renames herself “Water” for the tiny, hidden marking on her body—the only clue to her past. Taken in by old Ginny Fitzgerald, a crotchety but kind lady living on a nearby horse farm, Water slowly begins building a new life. But as she attempts to piece together the fleeting slivers of her memory, more questions emerge: Who is the next-door neighbor, quietly toiling under the hood of his Barracuda? Why won’t Ginny let him step foot on her property? And why does Water feel she recognizes him?

Twenty-four-year-old Jesse Welles doesn’t know how long it will be before Water gets her memory back. For her sake, Jesse hopes the answer is never. He knows that she’ll stay so much safer—and happier—that way. And that’s why, as hard as it is, he needs to keep his distance. Because getting too close could flood her with realities better left buried.

The trouble is, water always seems to find its way to the surface.
