The Coffee Shop

Mack’s POV

© Jessica Ingro, 2014

The coffee scalded my tongue as I took a sip from the cup the waitress sat in front of me, but I couldn’t worry about that. Not when Megan was due to arrive any minute.

As the clock on the wall ticked slowly, I felt my control slipping. Each tick and tock was painful. I wanted to tear the damn thing off the wall and shatter it into a million pieces.

My hands were clammy and my leg bounced under the table. My eyes stayed fixated on the door, anxious to get a glimpse of her.

I was a damn mess. Never had a woman had me so turned inside out before. Not even Ella.

I shook my head and banished thoughts of her from my mind. I didn’t want to second-guess my decision to call Megan and ask her to meet me. There was no staying away from her any longer. I had put in a valiant effort to do so, but the truth of the matter was—I needed her.

The bell on the door chimed as it opened and my heart nearly stopped at the sight of her in the doorway. She was so beautiful. I couldn’t tear my eyes off of her as she navigated through the tables.  A smirk played at my lips. She was here and I was whole again. Sure there was still so much we needed to talk about, and God only knew if she’d give me another chance. It didn’t change the fact that I she was with me now though.

Her smell intoxicated me as I drew her into my arms and hugged her tightly.

“Hey you,” I whispered in her ear before reluctantly pulling away. I held her chair out for her. She sat down and unwrapped her scarf before fisting her hands in her lap. My hands itched to take hers, but the fact that she sat so tensely stopped me.

“You look good,” I finally said after several long moments of awkward silence.

“Thank you. So do you,” she replied with an exquisite blush on her cheeks.

“I missed this.” Unable to resist touching her, I reached out and grabbed her hand, running my thumb back and forth over her knuckles.

Instead of responding to my admission, she changed the subject to the hot chocolate I had gotten her. Her slow, leisurely sips told me she was buying time before talking. I studied her face, hoping to see something—anything—to show me that she was as miserable without me as I was her.

After initiating small talk and listening to her talk about the volunteer work she resumed doing once that bastard, Ted Yates, was finally behind bars, I blurted out the question that had been tormenting me since New Year’s Eve. “Any men keeping you company these days?”

“No,” she said quickly, her eyes shifting over my shoulder. My stomach churned knowing that she was hiding something from me. There would be no other reason for her to avoid eye contact if she wasn’t.

“No?” I pressed, but she just shook her head and gave me nothing. Not one to give up, I tried again. “I drove by your house on New Year’s Eve. I was hoping we could talk, but it didn’t look like you were home. I just assumed.”

“I was home,” she said in a low, embarrassed tone and I fought throwing my fist in the air. “Wh… what did you want to talk about?”

“I want a second chance.” Way to go, Shane, I silently chided myself. Being that straightforward ran a real chance of getting me flipped off or kicked in the balls. I shifted in my seat uncomfortably, hoping she didn’t notice how unsure I was at that moment.

“At what?”

“With you. I meant it when I said some things have changed.” Was I even making sense? I wasn’t so sure.

“But people don’t change.” Her face screwed up in a doubtful look. It was so damn cute; I had to stop myself from kissing the tip of her nose.

“I didn’t say I changed. I said things have changed. I want to spend more time with you. See where this goes. I know you still care about me. I see how affected you are by me. Is there hope for me?” I might have been bluffing a bit when I said I could tell she was affected by me, but I was desperate and there was only one way to get her to admit how she felt and that was throw it out there and see if she denied it. Which she didn’t.

“It’s all fun and games until someone goes and falls in love,” she mumbled. The sad look in her eyes was almost my undoing. While hearing her say she loved me was something I cherished, I was afraid I couldn’t love her back. I refused to lead her on. If this was going to work, I had to be upfront with her even if what I had to say was going to send her running. It was a chance that I had to take.

“I can’t give you what you want, Megan.” My stomach twisted violently at the tears that sprung in her eyes. “I don’t know how to love anyone other than Ella. I know that isn’t fair to you and believe me it is the last thing I ever wanted to admit to you. Can’t we just take it one day at a time? Not have to put labels to it or worry about the future?”

She gave a small shake of her head and pulled her hand from mine. The loss was immediate and consuming. I began to panic knowing this might be it. She couldn’t leave. I couldn’t let that happen.

“Please,” I pleaded with her, not even caring if I sounded desperate. “Do you want me to beg? Because I will. I’ll do whatever you need me to do in order to make this work. Just please don’t walk away, Megan. I need your spirit, your charm and your beauty in my life.”

“In order for us to make this work, you have to let me inside. You can’t hide the broken parts of you that I need to see. I know it hurts, but I need for you to open up to me and let me past your walls.”

“I don’t know if I can. But I promise I’ll try.” Did I really just say that? Fuck, I was going to end up disappointing her. There were no walls separating us. It was just empty, dark space that filled me.

Sweat trickled down my spine and I nervously adjusted my shirt collar. The longer it took for her to answer, the greater the despair swirled inside of me. It was then I decided I wasn’t above getting on my knees if she tried to walk away.

“Okay,” she finally said so low that I almost didn’t hear her. Before she could say anything else, I did what I had been dying to do since the moment she stepped through that door. I covered her mouth with mine, pulling her out of her seat and onto my lap.

God, she felt so fucking amazing. Her lips on mine. Her tongue tangling wildly with mine. Her ass nestled in my groin, which was tightening in anticipation.

Only when a waitress interrupted us did I finally release her mouth. Pressing my forehead to hers, I struggled to calm my raging emotions. She said yes. I felt so much lighter after hearing those words. I knew without a doubt swallowing my pride was the best decision I had made in a long time.

“Let me come home with you,” I whispered. My lips just a hairbreadth away from hers.

Before the muttered yes was even out of her mouth, I was already dragging her out the door.

Broken Hart Excerpt

Raising my eyes to him, I checked to see if he was noticing what was happening, only to find his eyes blazing back into mine.  The look he gave me was pure combustible heat, and it left me with absolutely no doubt that he felt whatever was happening too.

He shook his head as though he was trying to clear it, and returned to massaging as I closed my eyes and tried to process what the hell was happening—and my reaction to it.   When he rubbed the arch of my foot again, I couldn’t help it, and I moaned.  My eyes snapped open, and I prayed that maybe he hadn’t heard me.

His hand slid from the arch of my foot up to my left ankle as his other hand gripped my right ankle.  Using my ankles as leverage, he jerked me toward him. I wasn’t dumb and I knew what that meant.  Clearly, he had heard me. I was trying to process all of that as he bent forward and kissed first one knee, then the other.

I took a shocked breath and my jaw dropped as I stared at the top of his head.  Raising his eyes to mine, Dante asked, “Rina.  I want this.  Do you?”

The line was shockingly easy to cross.

Looking him straight in the eye I answered honestly and without hesitation. “Yes.  God, yes.”

Loving Hart Excerpt

He looked gorgeous, as always, and I struggled to remember to breathe for a minute.  He works out like a mad man, and his body is to die for.  After giving me a kiss and a hug, Spence escorted me into his living room.  Taking a spot on his couch, I smiled when he took the seat at the other end.

“What’s up angel?  What do you need?”

I’d already decided not to beat around the bush, so I dove right in.  “Don’t flip out. I’m here because I need to kiss you again, and I want you to give me my first orgasm. It’s time.”

I paused when he gasped, and I could see that he was going to argue with me.  “Shush Spence.  Listen to me before you say no.”

He nodded tersely, so at least I knew he was listening.

“I’m a virgin, and we both know I’m saving it for you.”

The look on his face was a mixture of shock, discomfort and arousal.  “Jesus, Delilah, shoot straight much? That’s… I mean… I don’t know what the fuck to even say.”

“You can cut the crap and admit that you’ve known all along that I was waiting for you.  I don’t mind waiting, not that I’m going to sit on my ass forever, but before I start taking care of my needs myself, I want you to get me there.  I want all my firsts to happen with you.”

“Oh, fuck.  I don’t even…”

Holding up my hand, I told him to hush.  “You can run from everyone else Spencer Cross, but you’ll never be able to run from me.  I know you want this and you’ve wanted it for a long time. You’ve been waiting for me to come to you again.  Well, here I am. Someday, you’ll have all of me.  Until you’re ready to take that step, I’m asking you to give me this.”

I saw the exact moment that he accepted what I’d said as being true, and I knew he was going to do it. His eyes were like a firestorm when he looked at me.  “If this is what you really want angel, then yes. You’re right.  I want to give it to you.  Tell me how you want me to do this.”

Standing, I took his hand in mine as I started walking toward his bedroom.  I walked fast, letting go of his hands when we got in so that I could throw myself on his bed.  After enjoying a little bounce, I propped myself on my elbow and stared at him as he stood over the bed.

“You can start by kissing me.  How it goes from there is up to you.”

Missing Hart Excerpt

Turning on my heel I ran for the door, desperate to be away from him.  I swung it open at the same moment he reached a hand out and slammed it.  Pivoting,  I glared up at him.  “What the hell are you doing?  You can’t let go of the past and I’m done being your fucking punching bag.  What do you want?”

Pushing me roughly against the door he wrapped his fingers in my hair and pulled me against him.

“You!  Goddammit, I fucking want you.”

We met each other halfway, mouths smashing against each other in a kiss so intense that it was painful. My body went up in flames, the blood in my veins flowing hot for him. Our hands collided as we started ripping at each other’s clothes.  He bunched my skirt up to my waist and tore my panties off as I struggled to get his jeans open.  Finally I succeeded, reaching in and pulling his massively swollen erection out of his jeans and positioning it right at my center, marveling out how wet I was as I drenched his swollen head with my arousal.

With one hard thrust, he was in so deep that it hurt.  After not being penetrated for four years, he filled me to capacity and then some.  I screamed out in ecstasy and clawed at his shirt as his hips pumped into me at warp speed.  My back was banging against the door with every punishing thrust and I didn’t care.  I felt him in every part of my body as he pounded in and out, our mouths smashed together as we kissed like two maniacs.  We were a mess of teeth and tongue, the pain turning immediately into pleasure.

“I don’t- I’ve always been the sister-type, never like this.  Do you really want this?  I don’t expect anything afterwards, but are you really attracted to me like that?”  She murmured, so unsure of herself.  Her hands landed on my bare chest and glided over my nipple piercings.  The sensitivity was there and I briefly thought about what it would feel like having her luscious lips wrapped around them.

“Listen to me.  Listen very carefully because you should already know this.  You’re gorgeous, inside and out.  We never saw you as our sister, we all respected you though.  You were the one everyone wanted but never had a chance with.  I could call up any of our surfing friends and they’d agree.  Hell, the girls knew it too.  When one of the guys started working up the nerve to ask you on a date, the others would warn about what would happen if he hurt you.  I guess we all kinda cock blocked you.”  I rub my neck, realizing how we were back then.  “I’m sorry for that.”

– The birth date on the gravestone is my actual date of birth 😉

– I try to include names from my street team and readers in my books. (Rebecca, Elixix, Tami, Cassia were all from them in Regretfully)

– Tristen got his name from a good friend of mine. She was with me in the beginning of my writing process and her boyfriend’s name was Tristen and I fell in love with the name.

– I saw Cirque Du Soleil’s Zumanity and one of the performers had his nipples pierced. I was sold and knew Tristen would be getting them. 😀

– I was able to relate to Tristen in some ways regarding Cami’s death. A boyfriend of mine was taken from this world too soon and I drew from those memories.

– Gloria’s is my favorite Latin restaurant and I had to include it in the book. The one I go to is in Dallas though.

– Aria’s flashback (you’ll know which one I’m talking about, hint- alcohol) was tough for me to write. I spent weeks on it, making sure it was accurate and written in a respectable manner. That’s one scene I don’t go back and reread very much, but it’s often on my mind.

Texas born and raised, I found my love for dirty books rather recently.  I work in real estate for my day job and I write contemporary romance with a twist of suspense and erotica.  Sinfully, Regretfully, and Deceitfully can be read in order or as standalones.  Sinfully and Regretfully take place around the same time frame and can even be read in reverse order (will give more background on Payton and Ryder’s story).  Tate’s story, Deceitfully, will finish off the series and will be out in spring of 2015.

Review

Having read Sinfully, (which I recommend reading first) I was anxious about Tristen’s story. As I read, I could feel the anguish he was going through and felt. He lost the woman that he loves and on top of that the loss of his unborn child. His world has been turned on its axis. But when a friend of Cami’s is introduced to his life, he begins to come out of his darkness. Aria is a sweet funny girl and both she and Tristen feel this pull for one another. But it’s for different reasons. I felt that Tristen was using Aria as a crutch and it wasn’t fair of him. And Aria accepted this because she wanted a little more from Tristen. Both characters have their history and demons to battle.

Regretfully is book 2 of the Sinfully Series but can be read as a standalone. Characters from Sinfully come over into Regretfully, but to fully understand the relationship of them, read book one. There are many twists and turns in this book. A lot of story changing. I felt as though the author tried to tie everyone’s story in one book. And the 2nd half of the book, in my opinion, didn’t quite fit. There was a lot going on, weddings, babies, even an ER visit. I understand that life can be hectic and the author may have wanted it to be ‘real’ but to be honest, it stressed me out. I read to get away from my crazy life and I began to feel overwhelmed while reading. I really enjoyed Sinfully and don’t remember this much going on. I have met Leighton Riley at signings and she’s such a sweetheart. But when it came to book 2 I didn’t hate it or love it. Just was a neutral fit for me. This book may appeal to readers that enjoy the plot twists with a side of flashback sex scenes. As the book ended, I am assuming Aria’s story is next. I hope her story will sit better with me.
3.5 smooches for Regretfully by Leighton Riley.

Review

When Kori’s life comes crashing down after her love, Blake, is tragically killed, she thinks she will never love again or be able to move beyond the grief that consumes her. The only thing that keeps her going is the reminder of Blake left behind, their baby boy. But she never planned on having Reed, the boy who broke her heart, come back into her life. And she never believed she could feel anything again apart from grief. But Reed is grown up, has matured and will do anything to prove to Kori that he is a decent man now.
“How did you carry on when you felt so vacant and destroyed? When you felt like half your soul was missing?”
What a beautiful, heart-breaking, lovely and eventfully happy story. I absolutely adored this book!! It was so sad but beautiful at the same time and I loved all the characters involved.
“Don’t apologize for falling in love, baby. I know how it feels to have your love, and he’s one lucky guy. It’s okay to love again, sweet girl, it doesn’t mean you love me any less. I know you’ll always love me.”
Blake, Ahh sweet, sweet Blake. We only have him for a short time in the story but through Kori’s memories I feel in love with Blake and the more Kori remembered the more I cried over the loss of him.
Kori and Reed were characters I fell in love with. Kori was the strongest woman I’ve read about in a while. So young to have her love torn away from her and raise the cutest little boy without with dad there, but she does it, and she does it well. I cried with her during her grief but I also held hope with her when I prayed that she would forgive Reed and give him another chance. Reed was a young man who knew what he had thrown away. He was strong in the sense that he could admit when he had done wrong, he was caring, he was sweet, he was protective…he was just everything you could want.
“Baby, I have waited for a second chance with you. I won’t lie and say I didn’t try to get over you, but it was impossible. There is only one Kori, one girl who stole my heart.”
The plot was beautiful. It was a story full of grief, heartbreak, forgiveness, strength, love, sweet and sexy…a perfect love story for NA readers who want a good cry but a happy ending.
“Reed was a long time ago. He was my past, and I had no room in my future for a repeat. I had to stay strong, because the last thing I needed was to let myself feel for him again. I couldn’t fall, I refused to.”
I now can’t wait to read more from this author and look forward to how she will make me cry and breaking my heart but then build it back together again in the next story.

I’m a witch. My best friends know my secret so I no longer have to hide the truth. I should be relieved. My life should be easier than it was before. Unfortunately, things are rarely that simple.

Making matters worse, I feel a profound connection to a vampire named Finn. I see him in my dreams. He’s under my skin and consumes my every thought. I try to resist, but he’s always there and every time I look into his eyes, I find myself drowning in emotions I can’t understand. My mind tells me I shouldn’t be his, but my heart won’t let me walk away, even when my life depends on it.

Then I discover the supernatural underworld is on the brink of a war that could destroy us all.  As lines are drawn and sides are taken, I face an impossible choice: give up the vampire that’s captured my heart or abandon my Coven when they need me the most?

Bite Me

(Bitten #1)

I had the perfect life; an awesome job in advertising, a gorgeous high rise apartment, and a flirtation with the guy down the hall. Then it all came crashing down. Two months later I was a cocktail waitress living in a tiny one bedroom apartment. I had also developed a serious ‘men suck’ attitude.

That all changed the night I met the beautiful and enigmatic Conner Savage. But there was just one little problem…he said he was a vampire. Figures a man that hot would be batshit crazy. Or so I thought. It didn’t take me long to realize that Conner wasn’t a nut job and that I was addicted to him.

With every moment we spent together he drew me deeper into his world and the supernatural culture in which he lived.
Now I had a choice: the vampire I craved or a normal life. Couldn’t be easier, right?

Once Bitten, Twice Shy

(Bitten #2)

I used to think that my life was boring. I resigned myself to the rut I was stuck in. Then my entire existence was turned upside down.

In the last six months, I’ve learned things that would get me committed to an asylum if I repeated them. First, I was kidnapped by vampires. Yes, vampires. Sounds crazy, right? My best friend, Donna, became one of the fanged after that little adventure and hooked up with a hot, Scottish vampire named Conner. They’re even planning a wedding.

Secondly, I learned not all vampires are evil. In fact, some of them are downright sexy.

Alexander Dimitriades has it all. He’s tall, dark, and handsome and manages to give me tingles in all the right place and also make me laugh. Unfortunately, to be with him, I would have to give up my humanity and I like being human. Then, there’s the fact that the whole drinking blood thing gives me the heebie jeebies.

To make matters worse, there are plans in motion to change the place vampires hold in the human world. And I’m caught in the middle, between the vampire I’m falling in love with and a group that wants to create a vampire dictatorship, with humans as slaves.

Now, all I want is my calm, normal life back. As my friend, Ricki, likes to say, “Be careful what you wish for because it might come and bite you on the ass.” I hate it when she’s right.

Simon and Caroline are back for another round of baking, banging, and big life changes. Settling in, but never settling down, Caroline has finally struck a balance between the professional and the personal. As one of the top interior designers in San Francisco, she travels all over Northern California between nook time with Simon.

Perpetual globetrotter Simon has cut his frequent flyer miles in half over the last year, preferring to balance his professional and personal life, as well.

The next step in their lives seems preordained—toasts, veils, and the aisle of rose petals. But when an accident on a photo shoot in Southeast Asia brings Caroline the most terrifying phone call she could ever imagine, she has to ask whether “till death do us part” is a more realistic prospect than faces most couples.

It’s been a grand adventure, and Caroline and Simon wouldn’t go out without the best surprise ending ever. One part sexy, one part laughter, a dash of exotic locales, and one pink nightie, mixed with passion, and you’ve got Last Call. Served with a side of Clive.

EXCERPT

“Sexy.” Kiss. “Impossibly sexy.” Kiss. Kiss. “Ludicrously sexy.” Kiss. Grope. Grope.

“Ludicrously sexy?” I asked, my eyes fluttering shut as his fingertips danced inside the edge of my bra.

“It’s a word.”

“So is howfastcanyoubenotsodressed?”

“That’s . . . let’s see . . . one, two, three—”

“You’re counting?”

“—four, five—”

“Simon?”

“Hmm?”

“You should stop the counting and go back to touching.”

“Oh. Babe. I’m getting back to it.”

And he really just was. His hands were sure, specific, practiced on my body. We’d been together long enough to know what each other liked, and what each other loved. The night before was full of love and passion. Tonight? Would be full of frantic, frenzied, crazy stupid, straight-up fucking.

Blurb

Two stories so deeply intertwined, you’ll think you know how they intersect…but you’ll be wrong….

Zack Martin

The day I met Emily Bennett my whole world changed. Sure, we were just kids, but I was old enough to know my life would never be the same. She was my best friend. My destiny. My fate. I wasn’t wrong…I just didn’t know how twisted fate could be.

Nikki Fallon

After the death of my mother, moving from my dark and dreary trailer park to sunny California, I was focused on one thing – finding a sister I’d only just learned existed. Falling in love with him wasn’t part of the plan. But he filled a void I never knew was possible to fill. He had to be my fate. My destiny. Until the day I finally found out who my sister was…and how twisted fate could be.

Excerpt

He looks up and I watch his eyes take me in.  Slowly.  They rake over me, dropping from my eyes to my glossed lips down to my exposed shoulders.  Taking his time, he follows the neckline of my simple, yet body contouring sundress, lingering when he reaches my full breasts.  I’m sufficiently covered, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t aware that the dress showed off my assets well.  Tight around my chest, gathering snuggly at the waist, with a scant amount of cleavage.  Just enough coverage to still leave something for him to imagine.  And I watch his face change as his imagination takes off running.

His eyes drift down my legs, tanned now from the eternal California sun.  Momentarily he’s lost in what he sees and doesn’t even notice I’m watching him leer.  Totally worth the extra effort getting ready tonight, I couldn’t be happier at the reaction I get.  Eventually, his eyes make their way back up to mine and I arch one eyebrow, letting him know he’s been caught.  A normal reaction might be to look embarrassed or perhaps even flustered a little.  But not Zack.  Instead, he flashes me a wicked grin.  “You look incredible.”  He’s the one doing the leering, yet I’m the one who ends up blushing.

About the Authors:

Vi Keeland

10

Vi Keeland is a native New Yorker with three children that occupy most of her free time, which she complains about often, but wouldn’t change for the world. She is a bookworm and has been known to read her kindle at stop lights, while styling her hair, cleaning, walking, during sporting events, and frequently while pretending to work.  She is a boring attorney by day, and an exciting smut author by night!

Dylan Scott

Dylan Scott is a New York trial attorney, wife and mother of four.  She believes her job as a trial attorney is a subcategory to the field of entertainment more than law.   With a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature she believed teaching English was a destined career choice until she realized her life long talent of “argument” could actually be her job.   A recent, fairly boring, midlife crisis resulted in a brief stint as a middle school English teacher which confirmed that she wasn’t ready to give up the law.   Dylan has also taught legal courses at the college level and worked with at-risk inner city youth in the roles of mentor and coach.  She is co-author Vi Keeland’s biggest fan.
