Synopsis

This was a fast and fun read with a unique plot! I had previously read Adrian Lessons by LA Rose and knew I was in for a sexy and hilarious story. LA Rose is just one of those authors you wish everyone would discover. She knows just how to mix humor, sexiness and romance into a captivating book!

Fiona is in college and wants to let loose. After growing up about as sheltered as you can imagine she is finally out and free and living life to the fullest. This means dressing provocatively, going out a lot, pledging a sorority and becoming somewhat promiscuous! This is all working in her favor until the last guy she had anonymous sex with is the one guy she isn’t supposed to touch while pledging. James Reid is a former TV star and now a student at the same college that Fiona goes to. Part of the pledge process is to compete in a set of games in which the winner gets a date with James. What is the catch . . . no contact until the games are over. UH OH! Somehow while trying to avoid James she seems to constantly be doing the opposite! They are clearly attracted to each other but Fiona needs to decide what is more important, how she feels about James or finally belonging to a popular group.

While the premise of this book is slightly kitschy and silly that too is it’s appeal. I personally don’t read fiction books because they are like real life, I read them because they are an escape from real life! While being a little silly this book still had plenty of depth and feeling and I honestly loved every moment of it!

“Now, imagine what I could have don’t with two hands.”

James is super sexy and Fiona is a force to be reckoned with! I loved them both and together, WOW! They were so sexy and intense! AMAZING! At times James seems like he isn’t the best of guys but that’s okay because at times Fiona seems like she is kind of self centered but clearly they both need each other to find peace within themselves. I love that they seem to make each other better people!

“I am starting to suspect I mean something to him, and I hate how unspoken it is. I want things blunt and clear and outspoken, always. I drown in murky waters.”

I am definitely a LA Rose fan now and cannot wait for her to release more books! Good wit is harder than good sex and in both James Games and Adrians Lessons she has excelled at both!

 A challenge is something I’ve never backed down from, and I feel like that’s what he’s doing right now. Standing, I kick off my flip-flops and walk to the bank of the creek. The water’s not quite as clear as I remembered it, but I can still see the rocks along the shallow edges.
Glancing back, I see Sam standing a few feet behind me with his hands on his hips. He’s probably thinking there’s no way in hell I’m going to do this, but I’m going to enjoy every second of proving him wrong. After shooting him one last look, I take two small steps into the lukewarm water. It only goes up to my thighs, not quite touching the bottom of my cut-off shorts.
“You coming in, Shea?”
“My shorts aren’t as short as yours.”
“Afraid to get a little wet?” I tease, splashing a handful of water at him.
He pulls his bottom lip between his teeth and takes two quick steps to the edge of the creek. “There’s only one thing I’m afraid of, and this little creek isn’t it.”
With one more step, he’s standing in front of me. Close enough, I can almost feel him there, but far enough to give me space so it’s not uncomfortable.
“What are you scared of then?”
His eyes burn into mine. “Something that’s already happened once. Something that I’m not going to let happen again.”
“And what’s that?”
“When I’m not afraid anymore, I’ll tell you,” he says, brushing a piece of my wind-blown hair from my face.
“You’ve always been on the mysterious side.”
“If I were any other way, you wouldn’t want anything to do with me.”
“Why’s that?”
“What fun would I be if you had me all figured out? Besides, not saying everything I think keeps me one step below arrogance.” That makes me laugh. Sam had a male meltdown one day when he started high school, all because some girl called him arrogant. He went on and on about how she had him mixed up with the jocks, or she didn’t know the meaning of arrogance. Maybe he just comes off as too good because he’s secretive about his life; he doesn’t talk to a lot of people unless he has to. I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad thing but he’s definitely not arrogant.
“I guess you’re right.”
“Of course I am.” His hand comes down, lightly smacking my rear end.  I jump, and he smiles—the kind that makes all the girls think he’s the overly confident guy he’s not. His expression reminds me of the old Sam who used to be the cure for any heart ailment.
“I can’t believe you just did that,” I squeal, stepping away from him.
“Woke you up, didn’t I?” His lips quirk even higher. It’s contagious, no matter how annoyed I am with him.
“I didn’t realize I was sleeping.”

His grips my wrist, tugging my arm. “Are we going to stand here and talk, or are you really going all in?”

OMG! I LOVED LOVED LOVED these stories! While I love adult romantic fiction so much my first love and what I always go to will always be romantic comedy! I have always said that writing a good love story is hard but writing good comedy is near impossible so this collection was quite a gem for me to get to read.

There was not a single story in this anthology that I didn’t like and I loved reconnecting with some of my favorite autirs and discovering some new ones as well. While all of these stories were hilarious and definitely worth reading there were a few that stood out amongst them all.

Double Dare by Penny Reid!! Woot! More Winston Brothers. I absolutely loved her book Beauty and the Mustache and couldn’t wait to get some Winston Brother’s stories. This one was AMAZEBALLS and I cannot wait to get the full story as well as all the other brothers stories!

One Little Bite by C.C. Wood. There has not been a story written by C.C. I have not loved and this was no different! Hilarious and fun I breezed through it and loved every second!

Candy, Dentures and Way Too Much Spandex by R.S. Grey. OMG I died! Just died! This was great and like all fun and funny books written by R.S. Grey I read it in one sitting and immediately needed to talk to someone about the craziness I just read! I need more books from R.S. Grey and need them SOON

Overall I have to say that this collection of short stories is worth every penny and since it supports an AMAZING cause I definitely think everyone should pick it up!

“Do you know what the rain is?” he asked.

I was curled in a ball in the corner of the couch. A candle flickered on the table. It was the only light in the house; we’d lost power from the storm. He’d even let me take the candle into the potty with me, but he told me not to flush. I kinda liked that. The noise the toilet made could be so loud and scary at night.

I pulled the blanket even tighter around me. “No…what is it?”

“It’s the tears from all the people who cried today. The sky pulls them out of all the tissues and sleeves and holds them up there until it’s full. Then, it comes raining down on us.”

A chill ran over me, covering my skin in tiny bumps as I remembered how mean the rain had gotten. It felt like our house had been shaking. “Why did the storm sound so angry?”

“The sky doesn’t just take tears; it also takes the sounds that people make. That yelling you did while you cried this afternoon came right back at us, didn’t it?”

I couldn’t control my temper sometimes. I wanted to. I tried really hard to. I just didn’t want Mommy to go to work because Darren got so sad whenever she left. And what made him sad, made me sad.

“So if I cry softly, it won’t thunder as much?”

“Come on over here, Rae.”

I glanced toward the rocking chair where he was sitting. The candle lit up his face and his open arms. With the blanket still around me, I tiptoed over to him. He pulled me onto his lap, tucking my legs into the side of the chair and wrapping his arms around me. We swayed back and forth.

Mommy said I was a strong girl, a smart girl. He always said I had the prettiest smile of all the girls he’d ever seen. Strong, pretty girls didn’t need to cry. Darren didn’t need to cry, either. I wanted to tell him that, but he was in his room. He was always in there. He said he didn’t like hanging out anywhere else in the house. He was so silly.

I stretched my hands out of the blanket and placed them on top of his. His knuckles were so rough and hard. Chapped like my lips after I cried. They held me tight, but it didn’t hurt.

“Rest your head on my chest and let’s see if we can get you to sleep. It’s past your bedtime, my good girl.”

I pressed my cheek against his shirt. It was soft. Much softer than his knuckles, and the hairs around his neck tickled my nose.

Back and forth.

“I want you to think of good things. Pretty things. No more rain tonight, only rainbows.”

His fingers moved out from under mine and he ran them through the loose strands of my hair. My eyes closed. My breathing slowed. His thumb dipped onto my neck, but the rest of his hand stayed in my hair.

I Have to say that I really enjoyed this 2nd book of the Bar Harbor Series, the first book being Pulled Beneath.  I really…really loved the first book and was excited to start this second one.  This book did not disappoint..it was soooo good!!! Although you really will want to read the first book because…like I said it was really good.  I feel that this second book can be read without the first.. this book is a very heart felt story about Rae Ryan and the demons she is fighting currently and from her past.

Then she runs into one of her old boyfriends from her past.  Hart Booker, she is so shocked to see him walk back into her life.  She wants to push him away but he continues to keep fighting for her even tho she keeps pushing him back.  “You can trust me,” he said softly.  A laugh burst through my lips.  It was either laugh or cry…and laughing felt safer. “I did trust you, and you fucking broke me.”  His gaze turned intense.  “That was five years ago, Rae.”

This is one of those stories that you will feel everything that the characters are going through.  And I love the way that makes you feel!!!  I hope you pick this series up and read it.  Soooo good!!!
