Synopsis

Everyone belongs somewhere. Even the misfits.

With the looming threat from the Mancuso Crime Family, the Forsaken Motorcycle Club is preparing for a war that could destroy them. Grady, the club’s Sergeant-at-Arms, knows that love makes you weak, and he has zero interest in adding to his liabilities– especially now. He’s already got his teenage daughter who keeps him on his toes and a beef within the club that could fracture his relationship with a fellow brother for good.

For Holly Mercer, her life is finally getting on track and the last thing she wants is trouble from her hometown’s resident outlaws. Keeping her nose clean is easier said than done, when suddenly she finds herself embroiled in club business. Holly might like the idea of being with a real-life bad boy, but even being in the same room with tough-as-nails Grady flusters her.

When Holly inadvertently finds herself on Mancuso’s radar, she has two choices: trust that Grady will protect her, or continue to refuse the club’s help. Both roads are dangerous, but only one has the chance to damage her beyond repair.

Love is never more dangerous than when it can destroy you.

Review

The third installment of the Bayonet Scars series is filled with emotion and relationship building. This is the story of Grady and Holly. Grady is the Sergeant of Arms in Forsaken motorcycle club and Holly has just moved back to Fort Bragg. As a reader, you know she has a bit of a sketchy past, but all is not revealed. She is trying to get her feet back on the ground and start anew, when all hell breaks loose and she is thrown into the crossfire with Forsaken. She seems to be filled with conflicting emotions. She wants to do right and be good, yet her morality is tested in very extreme situations. Such as mobsters accosting her outside of her job. Being kidnapped, albeit in the nicest possible way and left dangling off a seawall. You know, crazy ass shit like that!

Grady is trying to balance being a father to a seventeen year old girl, the death of his best friend, Chief, and all the grief that comes with that, and this newfound attraction to the smartass that is trying to get his daughter to graduate high school, Holly. He has the mob coming at him in one direction and keeps getting railroaded by Holly and her sassiness. He fights it for awhile, but finally succumbs to his affection for her. This eventually turns into so much more. They balance each other out. He needs someone at home that will soothe him during dark times, and she needs to know that her instincts about right and wrong are jaded and that’s ok. Grady understands, and that is everything to her.

I love how this series picks up where the previous story left off and gives you background information from a different point of view. All three leading men, Ryan, Duke, and Grady have all been presented as real badasses. They are strong and strict and very rough around the edges. Grady is older and wiser. He knows what he wants in a woman and Holly is the one for him; plain and simple. This series just keeps getting better and better and I can’t wait for more! Hopefully Ian is up next. He has a lot of secrets to be told.
