Synopsis

Marriages of convenience are so…inconvenient.

Rescued by Calvin McLoughlin from a would-be subway attacker, Holland Bakker pays the brilliant musician back by pulling some of her errand-girl strings and getting him an audition with a big-time musical director. When the tryout goes better than even Holland could have imagined, Calvin is set for a great entry into Broadway—until he admits his student visa has expired and he’s in the country illegally.

Holland impulsively offers to wed the Irishman to keep him in New York, her growing infatuation a secret only to him. As their relationship evolves from awkward roommates to besotted lovers, Calvin becomes the darling of Broadway. In the middle of the theatrics and the acting-not-acting, what will it take for Holland and Calvin to realise that they both stopped pretending a long time ago?

Review

I have a soft spot for Broadway and this hit the mark. Roomies was a case of the right book at just the right time for me. Full of the wit and heart we have all grown to love from Christina Lauren, Roomies almost seemed to have just a bit more. The story relieved heavier on the connection between these two and the drawn out angst that follows them and slightly lighter on the humor and non-stop sex some other stories from them have had. I loved this style but can admit I did miss the dual POV, but that is mostly just a personal preference.

Roomies was a romance like I’ve never read before! A marriage of convenience between two denying their true feelings. But the real star of the story was the music. It was clear from the start that Holland fell for Calvin’s music before she ever even heard the Irishman speak and oddly as it is, I feel the same. Even though I as the reader never got the chance to hear him play, through the way Holland describes it and feels the music I felt like I did too.

Besides the music there was one other aspect of Roomies that had me in love with this story and that was the texts. Using text in books is nothing new for this duo, and they always do it in such a sexy way that has the tension built so high I am dying for more to happen long before it does. Roomies took this to a whole new level and I was sad when it ended. I loved each and every text that Calvin sent to Holland and was already eager for more before I even finished reading one.

Roomies was the best kind of fun. It was deeper than I anticipated and I loved every moment.

SO OVER YOU

Chicago Rebels series, Book 2

Kate Meader

Pocket Star EBooks

December 4, 2017

$5.99

ISBN 9781501168567

“Meader serves up a delicious mix of sports, sexy romance, and complicated, captivating characters with her second Chicago Rebels hockey contemporary (after Irresistible You)…Meader’s erotic scenes could melt ice, and her complex protagonists will keep readers eagerly turning pages.”

Publishers Weekly (So Over You)

“Things heat up on the ice in Meaer’s latest installment of the Chicago Revels series (Irresistible You, 2017)…Isobel and Vadim’s chemistry is off the charts, and Meader’s engaging details of hockey and Chicago pull you further into their world. Even nonhockey fans will be rooting for the Rebels by the last page.”

Booklist (So Over You)

“Hockey is a sport that moves a mile a minute, and it’s even more thrilling when the action off the ice has even more speed. In the second Chicago Rebels book, external conflicts make the path to a happy ending difficult for the couple, but that makes it even more satisfying in the end. Meader’s thought-provoking tale has well-rounded characters who touch each other’s lives — sometimes not too gently.”

RT Book Reviews (So Over You)

“Meader’s strength is creating characters who live, breathe, and jump off the page; Remy and Harper shine, and the supporting cast of characters, including Harper’s half-sisters, is very strong. The mix of sexual tension and emotional decisions will lead Meader’s series launch to many a keeper shelf.”

Publishers Weekly STARRED REVIEW (Irresistible You, Book 1)

“Meader takes her readers on a breathtaking, non-stop, glorious ride. The sex scenes are lyrically written with fresh, descriptive prose. Enough is included about hockey to add its fast rhythm to the book. Remy’s family is multi-faceted and fills the pages with joy. Readers will love the relationship between Remy and Harper, and will be excited for the next story — Isobel’s.”

Excerpt

“So we are agreed. You are looking for nice.”

“Most everyone is, Vadim. No one wants a creep.”

He inclined his head until it almost touched hers. “The opposite of nice does not have to be a bad thing. Not when it comes to certain areas. Sex, for example.”

“You can never stray long from that subject, can you?”

“Men think of it often, yes. I am just a slave to my gender. My offer is still open, you know.”

Oxygen was at a premium. He was far too close. “What offer?”

“To apologize. With my cock.”

Oh, she got it now. There was no apology on the table. This was purely Vadim Petrov trying to prove he was top dog, the man who could make a woman’s panties drop with a smile and a wink.

“You raging dingus! You’re not interested in ‘my disappointment’ or in making up for that first terrible time. All you care about is that there are women living in this universe who didn’t go off into the stratosphere when your dick made its debut inside their vaginas.”

“Only one woman, Isobel.”

She scoffed. “So sure.”

“I know.”

“You didn’t know back then. You just assumed tectonic plates shifted because, like all men, you imagine you’re the epicenter of the orgasm earthquake. As long as you feel the earth move, to hell with everyone else.”

Nothing but aristocratic hauteur from him now. “I am trying to be nice—”

“Nice? You just said you only recognize nice because you’re the opposite!”

He curled a hand around her neck, his touch shockingly sensual. “Then I shall be the opposite. I shall be very, very bad, Isobel.”

She wanted to say something about how “bad” wasn’t the opposite of “nice,” but this wasn’t an appropriate time for an English lesson. Her pulse stuttered, then gathered strength, a relentless pounding of yes, yes, yes. He must have heard it because, the next second, his lips crashed into hers, taking control as if it was his right.

But she knew better, didn’t she? She knew that Vadim Petrov was all smoke and mirrors, style without substance, a man whose only focus was his own pleasure.

Boy could he kiss, though.

This wasn’t your standard teenage fumbling. This was a man who knew exactly what do with his mouth. Probably all that practice over the years, she thought bitterly.

The bitterness melted in the face of a wildfire consuming her body. Pure, white-hot need. Maybe the owner of the lips didn’t matter. Maybe it was just a joining together of body parts that worked in this never-to-be-repeated moment.

He halted, his expression impossible to read in the shadows.

“It is bad, yes?” His breathing was labored.

“Terrible,” she murmured. “Again.”

She expected him to say something cutting, but he surprised her.

He did as he was told.

He didn’t taste like the boy she remembered. She thought she’d committed everything about that experience to her soul, both the bad and the good, yet Vadim’s mouth was different now. He was different.

This kiss . . .

. . . different.

Spicy and sweet, authoritative yet testing. It cracked open something. Not inhibition, because that had never been her problem, but reticence. With other men, she would hold back, waiting for the sparks to fly. If it didn’t ignite within a few seconds, she was already moving on, steeling herself for the disappointment that would come later.

Vadim’s kiss blew her wariness away. If it was this good, then the rest . . . No, that was not going to happen.

He was an employee, a coworker, a tabloid manwhore, sort of a dick, and the guy who took her virginity and did a piss-poor job about it. If none of these reasons were enough to put a halt to this nonsense, then she was in deep freakin’ doo-doo.

“Well?” he asked, though there was no missing the blink back to reality of his eyelids. He was just as affected as she.

“You want a score?” she panted. “Seven point four. The French judge marked you down. Too much tongue.”

This appeared to delight him, delight coming in the form of a lift at the corner of his decadent mouth. “It seems we both have lessons to learn. Again.”

In a flash, he had pulled her across into his lap—okay, she may have helped because this couldn’t not continue. Strangely, the snark fired her up. That hadn’t been their thing before, but maybe his time in North America had improved his personality.

She liked this version of Vadim. She liked it very much.

She also liked his positioning of her core over his erection. His hands kneading her ample ass to bring her closer was another check in the “like” column. And, additionally, helping her improved opinion of him was his mouth back on hers, sucking, testing, exploring.

“Again,” he murmured.

“Again,” she sighed right back into his mouth.

Again.

Rubbing her center against him was divine.

His hands everywhere were divine.

That mouth . . . oh, God, that mouth was ten steps above divine.

And then that mouth was speaking Russian, rough, sexy, sweet nothings that drove her wild. Forced out all common sense. His mouth trailed her jaw, delivering little nips and hot licks to her neck.

Bellasomething in RussianBellamore RussianBella.” As if one language was inadequate to express how she affected him.

She heard the scrape of her track jacket zipper, felt tingles as he applied openmouthed kisses to newly exposed skin. Her nipples were on fire, sensitive and needy. Can’t stand this. Going to die. She ripped her bra strap off her shoulder and freed one aching breast.

“Suck me,” she begged, and then his mouth closed over her tit and suckled hard. His moan on tasting her sounded like he was in pain, but she didn’t care; all she cared about was this mindless grasp at pleasure.

The insistent pulse thrumming through her body beat louder, stronger, showing no sign of stopping and heading for the one place she’d never visited with this man. She rolled her hips and hiked her suggestive rubs into a dirty grind. He was huge against her, toting this hard, hot instrument of pleasure that stroked her just right.

Still not enough.

“Please,” she begged as she rode him harder. Faster. Dirtier.

“Da, da, da,” he said. Yes, yes, yes.

About the book:

Three estranged sisters struggle to sustain their late father’s failing hockey franchise in Kate Meader’s SO OVER YOU, Book 2 in the new sizzling Chicago Rebels series. Middle sister Isobel is at a crossroads in her personal and professional lives. But both are about to get a significant boost with the addition of a domineering Russian powerhouse to the Rebels…

Isobel Chase knows hockey. She played NCAA, won silver at the Games, and made it thirty-seven minutes into the new National Women’s Hockey League before an injury sidelined her dreams. Those who can’t, coach, and a position as a skating consultant to her late father’s hockey franchise, the Chicago Rebels, seems like a perfect fit. Until she’s assigned her first job: the man who skated into her heart as a teen and relieved her of her pesky virginity. These days, left-winger Vadim Petrov is known as the Czar of Pleasure, a magnet for puck bunnies and the tabloids alike. But back then…let’s just say his inability to sink the puck left Isobel frustratingly scoreless.

Vadim has a first name that means “ruler,” and it doesn’t stop at his birth certificate. He dominates on the ice, the practice rink, and in the backseat of a limo. But a knee injury has produced a bad year, and bad years in the NHL don’t go unrewarded. His penance? To be traded to a troubled team where his personal coach is Isobel Chase, the woman who drove him wild years ago when they were hormonal teens. But apparently the feeling was not entirely mutual.

That Vadim might have failed to give Isobel the pleasure that was her right is intolerable, and he plans to make it up to her—one bone-melting orgasm at a time. After all, no player can perfect his game without a helluva lot of practice…

About the author:

Kate Meader was raised on romance. An Irish girl, she started with Catherine Cookson and Jilly Cooper novels, and spiced it up with some Mills & Boon. Now based in Chicago, she writes romances of her own, where sexy contemporary alpha heroes and strong heroines match each other quip for quip. Review

So Over You by Kate Meader is the second novel in the Chicago Rebels series and my favorite to date. Vadim and Isobel have a history, one that was underwhelming for her and angering for him. Both would like to forget it but now not only is Isobel the co-owner of the hockey team he has been traded to but she is his skating coach in charge of getting him ice ready after an injury.

The complicated and painful history between these two made for some tense moments that only drove the desire they had for each other deeper. Their chemistry was off the charts and I fell hard for this rough on the outside Russian. His story had my heart melting and his love for his Bella was insurmountable. I loved it and in turn, came to love this career-driven woman who sometimes made choices I didn’t love but did them for reasons I completely understand.

This was a relatively easy read but the story was fun, sexy, and an overall joy to read. I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait for the next in the series.

REVIEW

Well, this one was a fun breath of fresh air.  I don’t know what I expected going into this one because the truth is that you can never really expect anything from Shay Savage.  Her writing range is wide and deep and I never really know what she is going to give me which is one of the reasons that I really enjoy reading her books.  Every one of them is so different and unique and Ashlyn and Ethan’s story was no exception.

I say this story was unique because Ive never read one quite like it.  It had the obvious tropes like older woman/younger alpha guy but some of the story was very different and Ethan his self was most of the reason.  This guy was sweet and a really swoony book boyfriend even with all of this “issues”.

I enjoyed this one.  I always enjoy this authors books.  Another five star book from a five star writer.

Review

Jax and Penny may have known each other when they were younger but they have both grown up into very different lives. Jax is living the high life as a sexy, successful actor with the bad boy image thrown in. While Penny is living a very much opposite, mundane kinda life. So when Jax rings her out of the blue with a proposal to be his fake girlfriend to help clean up his image, Penny sees no reason not to. Things don’t stay simple for long however and soon this fake relationship starts involving, not fake and instead very real emotions and feelings. But with Hollywood, actresses and drama getting in the way, it won’t be easy for these two want to try and turn something fake into something real.

“It is a truth, universally acknowledged, that trying to find a decent guy to date in New York City is a damn near impossibility. Especially if you are—as my ex-boyfriend so charmingly put it—a grade-A, Type-A control freak with a stick up her ass.”

I don’t always love the whole Hollywood actor bad boy thing. I feel it can sometimes become quite boring and predictable BUT Heart Throb definitely pulled me back into enjoying this genre and I couldn’t get enough of Jax and Penny’s relationship!

“He tasted like salt and lime, and something dangerous. Pure Jax. We were in our own little world, and my head was spinning. Somewhere, a part of me was freaking out over the fact I was making out with Jax Hawthorne, but that part was muffled by how much my body wanted him, and just how good he felt.”

I LOVED LOVED LOVED Penny. I thought she was a brilliantly thought out heroine for this story. She was smart, funny, beautiful inside and out, and had a lot more to her than Jax first thinks. I thought she was the perfect match for our hero. Jax definitely has his “I’m the bad boy of Hollywood” moments but you can tell he generally cares for Penny. When he starts to realise there is more than just this fake relationship between them, we see a kind, sweet and caring side to Jax that just adds to his already sexy and confident personality.

“She was still fighting this connection between us, but after that kiss in the treehouse, I know. She felt it. All of it. And now it wasn’t a case of if, it was a case of when. And I could be patient. Because she was worth the wait.”

I would definitely class this as a rom-com read but it’s also a lot better than many of those already out there. There’s just something about the way the author writes the story and the characters that has you really connecting with this book and desperately wanting to get the HEA you need this book to have. It made me laugh, smile, angry, and ‘ahhh’ at the romance. I felt everything I want to feel for a romance novel that keeps me entertained. Jax and Penny’s story isn’t all hearts and roses and there was plenty of drama to keep this story flowing well and kept me wanting to turn the pages. Just a great all-round romance read!

“And for a brief moment, I had it all. But I was too stupid to see it for what it was. The reason everything was good, and I was happy and fulfilled, was you.”

Review

Wow. Van was nothing that I was expecting. I knew that the story, while a standalone, ran concurrently to Lucas so I thought I had an idea as to what it could be about but I was so so wrong. Van was so different than any of the other stories in the series, in some ways I adored and in some ways I had to grow to love the story and characters.

Let’s start by talking about how Simone had to grow on me. At first, her non-stop flirting, over the top aggressive sexual pursuit of  Van and generally immature behavior had me rolling my eyes. While in most romance novels it is the man being relentless to win the girl, in Van, it was Simone pursuing him and Van constantly telling her it was not going to happen. That being said by the halfway point I was warmed to her, she knew what she wanted and knew that despite how he acted Van wanted her. By the end of the book, I absolutely loved how she stuck to her guns and was confident in who she was. Simone might have been young and flapping in the wind when it came to what she wanted in her future but when it came to knowing who the man for her is, she was completely confident.

Now for Van! His story was difficult and his childhood has completely shaped the man he has become. He is closed off, brutish, and determined to be alone. Then Simone forced her way into his home, his bed, and his life. She is his roommate/teammate’s little sister and off limits, and yet when pushed to the edge of desire he can’t help but fall. I loved this broken hero. He wasn’t always kind or thoughtful but when he fell he fell hard. In my opinion, if you aren’t going to read all the books in this series this is not one you want to miss. Easily read as a standalone, trust me you want to read this EXTREMELY HOT hockey book!
