Trace I’m Alabama’s star wide receiver. I’ve got mad skills on and
off the field, and it’s no secret I’m heading into the draft after the upcoming
season. But I’m home for the summer to make some cash before my senior year.
Being back under my parents’ roof isn’t the ideal situation, but the moment I
see Marin, the star of my adolescent fantasies, I know it’s about to get
interesting. She may not have noticed me back then, but I’ve got a feeling it’s
just a matter of time before she lets me turn those fantasies into reality.

Marin

The last time I saw Trace Forester he was just a kid tearing
up the neighborhood on his skateboard. That was when I was foolish enough to
think I had the perfect husband and the perfect life. But now my life is in
shambles and Trace is back, all grown up, hot as hell, and exuding major
confidence. It would be so easy to fall for his good looks and undeniable
charm. So easy to let him into my life. Too bad I learned the hard way that
nothing worth having ever comes easy.

“You sleep with him yet?” Gayle asked.
“Oh my god. What is wrong with you?”
“Me? Have you seen the guy?”
Outside, Trace tossed the football gently so CJ had a slight
chance of actually catching it. He didn’t. It bounced off the grass in front of
him, but he ran after it, laughing as he did. “Yes, I’ve seen the teenager in
my backyard.”
“He’s not a teenager.”
“Yes, he is. I looked it up. He’s nineteen.”
There was a pause on her end, like she just realized I was a
sicko who’d actually looked him up. “Who cares? You’re single and he’s hot.
Have you seen him in his uniform? The guy could be a freakin’ underwear model.”
I laughed as I turned from the window and moved into the
living room. “No. At least not in person.” I’d seen pictures on the internet.
“Girl. When are you ever gonna have a hot piece of ass under
your roof again?” Gayle asked.
I scoffed. “You’re acting like he sees me as anything other
than a soon-to-be-divorced woman with a kid who needs a guy around.”
“Marin, you’re beautiful and fun. You deserve to get some
action.”
“You do realize you’re encouraging me to jump his bones,
right?”
“I never said jump his bones. Just wear something tight.
Bend over and let him see your hot ass. You’d barely have to do anything.”
“You’re insane.” I laughed. “And I could go to jail.”
“Why could you go to jail?” Trace asked from behind me.
I spun around, my eyes bugging out of my head and my heart
drumming in my chest. Trace stood in the doorway smirking at me, like he’d
heard my conversation.
Had he?

REVIEW

J. Nathan kinda snuck her way into my top ten favorite authors.  It all started a couple of books ago when I took a chance on a net galley arc of a book in another series of hers and before I knew it I was devouring everything she put out.  And when this book came out I was too dang excited.  It was then that I realized, I loved this authors books HARD.  Her books are angsty, sweet, sexy, and somehow still manage to make me laugh and grin through out.

I admit, I was worried about this one.  Books where the heroine is much older aren’t usually my jam, but this author proved me wrong.  She made me love and respect the heck out of Trace and even though Marin seemed pretty dang focused on his age, I completely overlooked it because his character was just so dang good to his core.

Stories of single mothers always give me the feels.  And I absolutely loved Marin’s story.  Her insecurities, her reservations, they all made so much sense to my thirty something mommy self.

I loved this one.  Great writing.  Witty Banter.  Super Steamy.  Another touch down for J. Nathan.

Synopsis

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Whoever coined that phrase is a bald-faced liar. Words are often the sharpest weapon of all, triggering some of the most powerful emotions a human can experience.
“You’re pregnant.”
“It’s a boy.”
“Your son needs a heart transplant.”
Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.
Lies.
Syllables and letters may not be tangible, but they can still destroy your entire life faster than a bullet from a gun.
Two words—that was all it took to extinguish the sun from my sky.
“He’s gone.”
For ten years, the darkness consumed me.
In the end, it was four deep, gravelly words that gave me hope of another sunrise.
“Hi. I’m Porter Reese.”

REVIEW

This book!  This freaking book that made me swoon.  Made me cry like a baby.  Broke my dang heart.  Nearly obliterated me.  But all the while it lifted me up.  Made me laugh.  The amount of emotions I went through reading this book was just insane.

I laughed through my tears.  I cried through my smiles.  Porter Reese stole my heart with his sweet nature and over the top hand holding.  That same heart broke for Charlotte Mills, all that she lost and the darkness that holds her captive.  And through all of this, I rooted for this couple that seemed doomed from the start.  Because the author had me so incredibly invested in them and their happiness–their love!

Sometimes a favorite author really surprises you and even exceeds your wildest expectations of them. You think you’ve read Aly Martinez?  Well, you ain’t seen nothing yet!  The Darkest Sunrise is pure gold, and the best yet from Aly Martinez!

Synopsis

Warning: This isn’t a romance, but instead a tale of love between two despairing people, from two different worlds, both aching for something more.

Debbie Reynolds is a runaway, New York City-bound. Living on the road comes with many challenges—fighting for her next meal, seeking safe places to sleep, and dodging men with less than honorable intentions, all while searching for meaning in a life she finds painful and pointless.

Damon “Preacher” Fox, vice president of the Silver Demons Motorcycle Club, has been in prison for club-related crimes. As his release draws near, he begins to reevaluate his choices in life, realizing that if he stays with the club, this won’t be his last stint behind bars. Suddenly Preacher finds himself doubting everything he’s ever known, wishing for a life beyond the club.

When Preacher and Debbie’s paths cross, they find in each other a sense of peace they had been lacking. But life is about to catch up with Preacher, and Debbie, desperate to keep the one person who’s ever shown her any kindness, finds herself caught between forces far deadlier and more powerful than she could have ever imagined.

This is Debbie and Preacher’s story.

At the end, we should all go back to the beginning,
if only to remind ourselves that we once lived.

REVIEW

Y’all, I am not going to lie.  I’ve been dreading this book as much as I’ve been anticipating it.  If you are like me, and you have read every book in the Undeniable Series, then you know.  Oh yea, you know there is not the potential for the ending that we all want.  So, I knew I was going to hurt.  I knew it was going to take us back and make me hopeful despite knowing what I know from the past books in this series.  Still, I went in, all smiles, hopes raised, beyond invested in Preacher and Debbie’s story.  And Gah it was as good as it was heartbreaking.

There was so much that I positively adored about this story.  Let me start with the first.  That prologue.  I tell everyone who listens that Madeline Sheehan is the dag gum queen of prologues.  They always get me right in the darn feels.  Always, and this one was no exception.  Next!  Eva!  I was so freaking excited to see her and Deuce again.  I missed them so much.  They may be older, but nothing has changed with these two.  Gah.  Their love story is probably my most favorite ever biker romance so I felt at home with these guys!  And I absolutely adored how Eva’s bit of the story was done in first POV and then Preacher telling his and Debbie’s story (which was so much more than just their love story) was done in third.  It was seamlessly done and so freaking perfect.

You guys this story just pulled at every dang heart string I have.  It was sexy, sweet, funny at times, but beyond everything it was absolutely heart breaking.  And still I’d pick it up and read it again and again.  Undeserving was completely unforgettable.

Kiss My Boots by Harper Sloan Review Tour

In this second of the sultry, Western-set Coming Home series from New York Times bestselling author Harper Sloan, Quinn Davis might finally have a shot at her own happily-ever-after—but will she let love in, or will she tell it to go ahead and kiss her boots?

Quinn Davis prefers to live her life quietly. She’s the stereotypical tomboy with two overprotective big brothers who have always been there to protect her, especially from devilishly handsome cowboys with silver tongues. That is, until Tate Montgomery comes riding into town. Their first meeting, however, is far from something out of a fairy tale and only further convinces Quinn that men aren’t worth her time.

The only place Tate Montgomery ever truly felt at home growing up was during the long, sweltering summer months he spent at his Gram and Paw’s farm in Pine Oak, Texas. Now, Tate has returned to his childhood sanctuary seeking a fresh start—but if he’s being entirely honest, he’s not just back for the wranglers and Stetsons. During those summers, Quinn was a friend-turned-young-love who Tate lost when life threw him a curveball and he cut all ties to his past; but all it takes is one glance at the raven-haired beauty he did his best to forget for him to realize just how much he’s been missing….

TRUST by Kylie Scott (Official Book Trailer) from FILM 14 on Vimeo.

“You were going to give it up to Duncan Dickerson?” he sneered. “Are you serious?”

I halted, staring at him. This was not good. “How do you know about that?”

“Anders overheard you and Hang talking.”

“Bastard.”

“Well?” he demanded, acting all authoritarian. Idiot.

“To be fair, I didn’t know his last name was Dickerson,” I said. “That’s unfortunate. Though, I wasn’t actually planning on marrying him, so . . .”

“Not funny.”

I shrugged.

“You barely know the guy.”

“Um, yeah. None of your concern. We’re not talking about this.” How mortifying! My face burned bright. People should just gather around and cook s’mores. “I appreciate that we’re friends. You mean a lot to me. But this is going to have to fall under definitely none of your damn business, so go away please.”

“We’re talking about it.” He advanced a step.

“No we are not.” And I retreated.

“You were going to let a complete stranger touch you.” Advance.

Retreat. “People do it all the time. You do it all the time.”

“But you don’t,” he said, taking the final step, backing me up against the side of his car and getting all in my face. “Edie, this is your first time we’re talking about. Isn’t it?”

“Yes, and it’s going to be messy and painful and probably horribly embarrassing and I just want it over and done with.” I tried to meet his eyes but failed, settling for a spot on his right shoulder. “You’re not a girl; you wouldn’t understand. Also, last time I checked, you’re not the gatekeeper of my hymen, John Cole. So back the fuck off.”

He said nothing.

Deep, calming breaths. “Look, someday I’ll meet someone I really like and we’ll have a deep and meaningful relationship and go at it like bunnies. But I don’t want to be the dumb virgin in that scenario.”

He slowly shook his head.

“Also, I do not want to die a virgin.”

“What? What the hell are you talking about?”

“Hey, you and I both know death can occur at any time.”

“This is crazy.”

“I’m seeing a therapist!” I told his shoulder. “I don’t know if you noticed, but I’m a little bit messed up these days. It’s hard for me to trust people. That’s not going to change anytime soon.”

He screwed up his face at me. “Wha—”

“I’m just trying to be practical.”

“Well, you’re being ridiculous. None of this makes sense.”

“It does to me.”

Again, he said nothing.

In fact, he said nothing for so long that I finally looked him in the eye. The anger had left him, replaced by an emotion I didn’t recognize. Worst of all, he still smelled like summer. A little sweat and the open night air, everything I loved. Liked. I meant liked.

“What?” I said, finally.

He let loose a breath. “I’ll do it.”

Review

WOW! This one was a surprise for me! I’ve read almost all of Kylie’s books and have loved them all. She has a style all her own and it really works. But with Trust she veered away from her tried and true formula and took a risk into mature YA and it was a complete success for me.

Trust gave me an intense book hangover, I simply could not put it down. rust is a friends to lovers romance about to troubled teens whose shared tragic encounter took them from strangers to friends. Edie and John are so different and while John started the book on the wrong side of the law and Edie is a good girl, but after they both have this horrible event happen to them they basically switch. Edie walks the line of making good/bad choices and John works on turning his life around.

This story was hard in the best ways possible. I was never quite sure how it would all work out. These tow were not instantly in love, it was a struggle to move past their co-dependent odd friendship to something more. They didn’t always make the easy or right choices but something about the story and no matter how hard it got that each hardship seemed needed and only made their eventual pairing all that more rewarding.

I’m not sure what I was expecting with Trust but I can tell you that she blew my expectations out of the water. I went through the gamut of emotions and I personally hopes she takes another risk like this again.

Quick Quirky Questions with CC Wood

  1. If you could be any paranormal creature (fairy, ghost, vampire, werewolf, etc) what would you be?

Answer: Ohhh, that’s a good question. I think I’d be a vampire. Blood doesn’t bother me and biting sounds kind of sexy. 😉

  1. Name 2 things you like about yourself and 1 thing you could work on?

Answer: Things I like about myself? Hmmm. I’ve never really thought about it before, but I do like that I try not to take myself too seriously. I can laugh at myself, especially if I’m letting my neuroses get the best of me. I also like my creativity. I feel like I see things differently than everyone else sometimes.

In terms of things I could work on, I need to stop procrastinating. I put things off because sometimes I get overwhelmed with large projects and I have no clue where to start. Then I’m frantically trying to finish things by deadlines. I don’t do it ALL the time, just once or twice a year, but I shouldn’t procrastinate at all. It’s not good for my mental health.

  1. What food would you outlaw if you could?

Answer: Pickled eggs. I’ve never actually eaten them, but only because the smell makes me want to yack, so I’m pretty sure the taste would gross me out too.

  1. If you could be any Disney villain who would you be?

Answer: Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty.

  1. What are 2 items on your bucket list?

Answer: Hmmm. I haven’t looked at my bucket list in a while, but making USA Today or NYT Bestseller list is on it. And so is spending a couple months in a little cottage in Scotland or a house in Tuscany while I write a book.

Review

I just love when C.C. Wood writes a paranormal romance. She mixes humor, heat, interesting plots with a romance that makes you swoon.

Let’s talk Savannah before we get to the star of the show, Rhys. As an empath she has to live a lonely, isolated life. For a recluse she desperately desired to be a part of the real world and find her one love. But, her ability means she is constantly overwhelmed with the feelings of those around her. I found her to be sweet and sassy. I loved when she got flushed or embarrassed around her hot new neighbor. Speaking of Rhys, boy did I LOVE him.

I’m a big fan of a damaged man and Rhys is as damaged as they come. His past has made him feel incapable of being loved but nothing could be father from the truth. He was patient, hot, alpha and all around amazing. The whole cast of characters in this book were the driving force for my love of it and if the next book in the series is about who I hope it is then I definitely cannot wait!

I honestly think there is something about how C.C. Wood writes paranormal that is appealing to both para readers and those who tend to avoid it. She was one of the first paranormal authors I read and her style reads like contemporary but with the fun of paranormal. Nothing is too complicated you can’t easily follow along and yet the plots are always surprising and exciting. There has not been one I haven’t enjoyed and Souls Unchained is yet another hit for me.
