Second Chance Season by Liora Blake Review
4 Smooches
Synopsis
Return to Liora Blake’s Grand Valley series with Second Chance Season, in which an avowed country boy with a family duty meets an ambitious city girl with even bigger goals and who shows him just what he’s been missing.
Garrett Strickland is unapologetically country, fiercely loyal, and perfectly happy with his job at the Hotchkiss Co-op. Garrett is all about living in the present and not dwelling in the past—even if he was once on his way to a lofty agricultural sciences degree that would guarantee the brightest of futures, only to end up back home when his old man died, leaving behind a debt-ridden family farm that was impossible to keep afloat. After that, it was easy to see why dreaming big wasn’t worth the heartache. And until he crosses paths with a city girl who’s hell-bent on kick-starting her own future, he’s sure that good enough is just that.
Cara Cavanaugh is ready for more from life, even if that means changing everything; including dumping her boyfriend of ten years, turning down a lucrative job at a major newspaper, and leaving behind the upscale suburbs of Chicago where she grew up. Now, she just has to pray that temporarily relocating to the middle of nowhere in Colorado will be the first step in building a career as a freelance journalist—all she has to do is prove she’s got what it takes to make a name for herself. Unfortunately, her tony country day school is as close to “country” as she’s ever been. But when a goodhearted guy who looks like he just stumbled out of a country music video offers to help, she ends up falling hard…and discovering that the perfect story is a love story. And it’s theirs.
Second Chance Season, book two in the Grand Valley series, is a charming, feel-good romance, perfect for fans of Jennifer Probst and Kristan Higgins.
Review
I love a good small town southern book and that is exactly what Liora Blake delivered. Second Chance Season is a southern book but Garrett is no cowboy. He is a good ole boy through and through. I loved that about him. Having grown up in the south Garrett reminded me of all the boys and men I was surrounded around in my youth, only a better version of them.
This book was a slow build that gave me time to fall in love with these two as they fell for each other. I really enjoyed the build between these two very different personalities The contrast in these two really drew me in and the wit and banter between then really cemented my love for them and this book.
This has been my fifth Liora Blake book and I still look forward to each of her releases. I really enjoyed this one and can’t wait to see what she gives us in the future.

My father owes a debt.
I am his currency.
I’m supposed to marry the recently crowned mafia king of the Foley family as repayment for my father’s transgressions. I don’t understand why the Foleys would want me, but I’ve grown up in a crime family, and I know the ugly consequences of not doing what you’re told.
But as the wedding date approaches, the deal changes, and I’m about to be wed to a man I know nothing about. In fact, I don’t even know his last name.
Instead of becoming a mafia princess, I’m marrying the henchman.
Deklan.
After one look at him, I’m not sure I’ll survive the wedding night.
Instead of becoming a mafia princess, I’m marrying the henchman.
REVIEW
I read all of this authors work. I just like her unique stories and clean writing style. So, I didn’t really know much about this story going in. Im glad I didn’t because I found that the whole story was surprising and had a few twists and turns that I didn’t expect. While I really enjoyed the writing style and the storyline itself, my favorite part of this story was the swoony Deklan. He pretty much surprised over me and over again through out the book. He is patient and kind and sweet and I loved how the author tied their pasts together.
Another great one from this author. I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jay Crownover continues her delightfully sexy Saints of Denver series with the next thrilling standalone, SALVAGED! Order your copy today!

Hudson Wheeler is a nice guy. Everyone knows it, including his fiancée who left him with a canceled wedding and a baby on the way. He’s tired of finishing last and is ready to start living in the moment with nights soaked in whiskey, fast cars, and even faster girls. He’s set to start living on the edge, but when he meets Poppy Cruz, her sad eyes in the most gorgeous face he’s ever seen hook him in right away. Wheeler can see Poppy’s pain and all he wants to do is take care of her and make her smile, whatever it takes.
Poppy can’t remember a time when she didn’t see strangers as the enemy. After a lifetime of being hurt from the men who swore to protect her, Poppy’s determined to keep herself safe by keeping everyone else at arm’s length. Wheeler’s sexy grin and rough hands from hours restoring classic cars shouldn’t captivate her, but every time she’s with him, she can’t help being pulled closer to him. Though she’s terrified to trust again, Poppy soon realizes it might hurt even more to shut Wheeler out—and the intense feelings pulsing through her are making it near impossible to resist him.
The only thing Poppy is sure of is that her heart is in need of some serious repair, and the more time she spends with Wheeler, the more she’s convinced he’s the only man with the tools to fix it.

Excerpt
“I don’t know that I have the time to take on a puppy right now, Poppy.” He lifted a hand and rubbed it across the back of his neck. His mahogany-colored eyebrows pulled into a vee over the top of his nose and the corners of his mouth pulled down in a frown that was too harsh for his pretty face. I liked it much better when he smiled and his twin dimples cut deeply into his cheeks.
I bit my bottom lip to keep the distressed noise that I could feel climbing up the back of my throat at bay. I knew he might say no but I couldn’t hide the fact that I was disappointed by his decision. I honestly felt like he and the puppy would be good for one another, that they could bring a little joy into each other’s life. It broke my heart a little that Wheeler wasn’t ready to open his heart up again, even when it was to something that was so obviously eager to love him unconditionally and irrevocably, unlike his ex.
“It’s okay, Wheeler. Like I said, I’ll take him home until I can find a place for him. I’m sure Dolly could use a friend.” I crouched down and wiggled my fingers to get the dog’s attention, and grinned when he bounded over, tripping over his front legs as he scrambled in my direction. “I can take him to work with me and hold on to him until I figure something out. One of the boys at the shop will step up if Dixie doesn’t want another dog.”
I heard him sigh and looked up to see him watching me intently. He opened his mouth like he was going to say something, then let it snap shut with his teeth audibly clicking together. I didn’t know much about Wheeler, but what I did know I liked. He was nice. He was polite. He was thoughtful and he was kind. But more than any of those things, he went out of his way to hold himself in a way that wasn’t threatening or intimidating because he was aware without me saying a word how jumpy I was around people, men in particular. I hated that they were bigger than me. I hated that I knew firsthand how badly they could hurt me if they had a mind to. I hated that I wilted and cowered under their attention, even if it was innocent and friendly. The fact that he took care not to spook me spoke volumes and made me feel awful for putting him in such an awkward position.
“Poppy…” He sounded regretful and I had no interest in dragging the torture out any longer for either of us. I scooped up the dog and buried my nose in the top of his head.
“Seriously it’s no big deal. I love him and I’m happy to wait until I can find him a proper home. It was stupid of me not to consider how busy you are with everything you have going on in your life right now. A puppy is a big commitment and that’s not something you can put on someone else without discussing it with them first.” The dog swiped his tongue across my face, no doubt feeling my distress and rising panic. I wanted to tuck his warm little body to my chest and run away like I was trying to score a touchdown in the other team’s end zone. “I should have known better.”

Review
‘I didn’t want her to be scared of anything ever again.’
Jay Crownover has always been a one click author for me. I feel like we’ve grown together from NA to full on Contemporary and I have enjoyed every moment of it. The Saints of Denver was a wonderful spinoff series which allowed me to see he characters I fell for grow and mature while allowing me to fall deeply for a whole new set. No one has had me more eager for their book since I first met Poppy back in Rowdy’s book. Knowing her story and seeing it unfold slowly throughout the two series along with Wheeler. I knew the angst, drama and intensity would be high and Jay delivered on all those accounts.
“Everyone ends up a little bit out of place every now and then. I’ll put you back where you’re supposed to be, Poppy.”
Wheeler and Poppy have a connection that grows slowly while it is obvious that their chemistry was instant. Wheeler is possibly one of the best book boyfriends writer. He was sweet, patient and kind. His outside tattooed appearance was sexy and in contrast to his kind and calm nature. I LOVED him so deeply. Poppy’s story is so sad and hard. I was prepared to cry and have my heart broken for her but was pleasantly surprised to find that this story was more about her healing than what broke her.
Overall, Wheeler and Poppy had me hooked from the start and eager to read the whole way through. I never wanted to put the book down and was sad that a series I have come to love is ending but what a great way to pull it to a close. The only problem I had with this book is probably not a problem for many reader and that there was almost too much sex for my taste. I was not expecting this to be as erotic as it was and while it wasn’t so much to turn me off from the story I personally would have preferred a few less scenes. Still, Savaged was an amazing book and I can’t wait to see what Jay will bring us next.

Synopsis
Can you fall in love with someone you’ve never even met?
Hailey Taylor Emery has a hunch that her favorite client at Fetch–an anonymous virtual assistant service–is actually hockey star Matt Eriksson.
Although it’s against the rules for her to check his file, she’s 95% sure she spends at least part of each day texting with her lifelong crush and catering to his every need. Still nursing a wounded heart thanks to her recent breakup, Hailey is perfectly content with some harmless online flirting…until she has to meet her client. Face to face. Cue: utter panic.
Matt Eriksson is no stranger to heartbreak. He’s still not over the destruction of his marriage, and it sucks to be the only guy on the team who knows the truth–that hockey and long-term relationships are a toxic mix. He barely sees his kids, and dealing with his ex makes him feel insane. The only person in his life who seems to understand is someone who won’t show her pretty face.
But it’s nothing that a pair of fourth row hockey seats can’t fix. Hailey can’t resist the offer. Matt can’t resist Hailey. Good thing he doesn’t have to. Fire up the kiss cam!
Warning: Contains rabid hockey fans, misunderstood dick pics, hockey players at the opera and exploding ovaries.
Review
While I enjoyed the first standalone in the WAGS series, I have to say I LOVED this one. Hailey and Matt’s story was sweet, and fun, and full of heartfelt moments. Both are recently divorced and neither is out looking for a relationship but even when they didn’t know each other and only communicated anonymously through her exclusive virtual assistant service they were drawn to each other.
Once Matt gets a glimpse of the woman who has digitally held all his thoughts he knows he can’t let it go. He wants are and isn’t afraid to pursue what he wants. I loved Matt! LOVED! He was caring, hot, sweet, alpha, and an amazing dad to his two little girls. Then there is Hailey. She is an ultimate hockey fan and if you have ever fangirled before then you can just imagine the excitement she feels when one of her idols wants her. I found her adorably awkward and loved when she would get shy. She was never boring or dull but her skittish behavior around him seemed to only add to her charm,
If you want a book that just will make you smile but with a heavy does of heat added in than give this one a go.

About the Author
Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana, and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.
Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multigenerational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake.
Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up.
And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Review
Jordan Marie’s Devil’s Blaze MC trilogy completely blew me away with its intensely emotional, painfully dramatic plot. At the time, I proclaimed it to be Jordan Marie’s best work to date, and arguably, one of the most gritty and gripping MC romances that had ever been told. I still stand behind that statement, but I’d like to amend it slightly. From that series emerged a character whose story was so devastating, it demanded to be told. The brutality and viciousness of Michael ‘Beast’ Jameson’s story could not be ignored, and Jordan began to unravel the tale in Beast: Learning to Breathe. Beauty: Learning to Live is the highly anticipated conclusion to the Learning to Breathe/Learning to Live duet within the Devil’s Blaze MC series, and it picks up where Beast left off.
I went into Beauty knowing full well that Jordan Marie could–and wouldn’t hesitate to–deliver another blow to the feels. With that in mind, I gathered up the jagged pieces of my heart after reading Beast, and I cracked open Beauty. Where Beast was a ferocious and shattering story that left a scarred and damaged man in its wake, Beauty was exactly what the title implied: a beautiful story about learning to live again. Just as powerfully emotional as it’s duet partner, Beauty is, however, the flipside of the coin. More hopeful, more loving and much more healing, this story got my heart racing in a completely different way. Chemistry was never an issue between Michael and Hayden, but having been apart for a while, once they reconciled, they were explosively passionate and some of the sexiest material Jordan’s ever written is in this book.
I know some readers were disappointed when Beast ended in a cliffhanger, but I really hope that once they read Beauty, they’ll understand why that was necessary. This story as a whole was so thorough, so richly developed and so layered, that it just would have been impossible, even for an author as talented as this one, to adequately and effectively communicate the level of pain and healing, of loss and love, that these characters experienced in one book. A duet within the series is exactly what this haunting story required. Once again, Jordan Marie has managed to shock and awe me with a deeply moving story. Five smooches from me!
