One by one, my friends arrived and I got busy serving wine
and putting out the cheese tray I’d purchased earlier that day.
When Jordan joined us in the living room, my friends fell
silent, everyone but Lucy staring at him. Quickly I introduced everyone.
“Jordan, these are my friends Yancy Stevens, Grier
Carter, and Chelsea Archer. Girls, this is Jordan Hawke.”
They came forward to shake his hand.
“Whatever you’re cooking smells amazing,” Yancy
stated.
Grier was next. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“You’re really hot,” Chelsea announced as she
shook his hand.
This time I couldn’t contain my eye roll. Jordan just
laughed.
“Thank you, Chelsea.”
I shot her a dark look as she walked back to her seat on the
sofa.
“What?” she asked defensively.
“You know what you did,” I answered.
She shrugged. “He is hot and he’s probably looked in
the mirror enough to know it.”
“Stop saying he’s hot!”
“Why? It’s the truth.”
Lucy interrupted our juvenile argument before it could get
out of hand.
“Jordan, I’m putting together a series of portraits for
my next show and I would love it if you would sit for me.”

“See, even Lucy wants to paint him like one of her
French girls,” Chelsea pointed out.

“Molly takes her writing game to a whole different level—one that most authors rarely see.” – #1 New York Times bestselling author, Rachel Van Dyken

synopsis

From New York Times bestselling author Molly McAdams comes a powerhouse romantic suspense that will have you questioning your morals and second guessing your view on love.

I live in a world few know exist. I’ve trained for this. I know what to say, what to do, and how to act. I’ve perfected the lethal calm required for this life.

Now it’s time to buy my first girl. But all it takes is one look at the brave girl who starts singing mid-auction for that calm to slip.

Briar Chapman is going to be the death of me, and I don’t care. I’ll take every day with her until that death comes, and I’ll welcome it when it does.

On the outside, Lucas Holt is what nightmares are made of. A man cloaked in darkness, with sin-filled eyes and an enticing grin. A devil so devastatingly beautiful and cruel that his very presence instills fear.

But beneath his terrifying, ever-calm exterior is an affectionate man haunted by a past that refuses to stay buried. And Lucas looks at me as though he’s finally found the only person who can make it all go away.

We’re a battle of the brightest day and the darkest night—and I want to lie in the wake of our war.

portrait of a beautiful blonde with perfect clean skin

excerpt

She closed the distance between us, each step slow and calculated. Once she was close enough, I slid one hand around her waist and the other around the back of her neck, using her hair to tilt her head back so I could study those eyes that captivated me.

“I hate that you have so much money that you buy women. I hate that you bought me at all, but mostly that you bought me because I started singing. I hate the circumstances that brought me to you, but I love you and am thankful I’m here with you all the same.”

My chest ached and filled with warmth. I wanted to kiss her and thank her for trusting me with her past. I wanted to erase every bad memory and replace them with ones of us now, but she didn’t realize what she’d just said . . .

As much as I wanted what she was saying to be true, it wasn’t, and it never would be. It couldn’t.

“You don’t,” I said thickly, forcing the words out through the tightness in my throat.

Confusion covered her face and her brows drew together. “I don’t what?”

“You don’t love me.”

I felt the shock that went through her body, but she didn’t try to pull away from me. Instead, she gripped my shirt in her hands like she was pleading with me in her touch alone.

“Lucas . . .”

My eyes slid shut, and I released a slow, weighted breath. “You don’t, Briar.”

“I know you think you don’t know how to love someone, but you do, you have been. You know what love is, and I have never been more aware of how loved I am by someone than I am by you.”

I ground my jaw and finally looked at her again. Instead of disagreeing with her, I said, “You can’t love me, because you don’t know me.”

I hated the hurt in her eyes. I hated that I was putting it there. I hated everything I was, hated that I would never be enough for the girl I didn’t know how to let go of. Couldn’t let go of.

“Yes, I do,” she choked out. “I’ve seen it, I’ve felt it, I’ve experienced your darkness and your monsters, and I’m still here. Haven’t I proven myself yet? Haven’t I proven I am not going anywhere? That you can’t make me run?” Her gripping hands flattened and moved up to curve around my neck. “I knew to fall in love with you I had to fall in love with the devil, too. I am not as naïve as you think I am.”

“But you have no idea exactly how heartless your devil is,” I said darkly.

“Then let me see—”

“I won’t let you into that part of my world,” I said on a growl. Just the thought of her being in a situation to see me like that—to see that part of my world—chilled me in a way that made me feel sick. “All of this will change the minute you see it. Trust me when I say you’ll never be able to look at me the same, and I won’t be able to live with myself if that day ever comes.”

“You can’t know that,” she argued, her words still sounding like a plea.

“Think of your worst memories with me, Blackbird,” I ordered gently. “Think of what I told you about the shootout with my brothers. Think about what William did to you. Now try to grasp that all of that is nothing compared to what I have done, and what I do, without feeling a thing.”

I waited for it to sink in, and after a few moments, it did. And there was that look in her eyes I’d come to dread and hate—fear and uncertainty. But I could still see her love for me.

Unfailing and undeserving.

“Didn’t you hear me the first time?” she finally asked as tears filled her eyes. “The darkest part of your soul terrifies me, but, Lucas, I’m not going anywhere.”

Dirty Doctor by Whitney G. Review

5 Smooches!

a4-3 a4 a4-5 a4-4 a4-3

Synopsis

“Lean back on the table and spread your legs for me…”

Being a doctor in New York City has never been easy. Especially for someone like me who has a private practice and an incompetent staff who insists on leaving me to fill in for them.

Over the past six months, I’ve performed one too many pap smears, three too many “breast exams,” and scrubbed in on several reconstructive surgeries. (This would be acceptable if I was still interested in general medicine, but I’m not. I’m supposed to be a goddamn therapist…)

When my team finally came to their senses and decided to bring someone more competent into the practice last month, I was actually elated.

Until I realized that our new “doctor” was none other than the woman I was supposed to meet over dinner two weeks ago. The same woman who stood me up with nothing more than an “I can’t meet you anymore, sorry,” after we agreed to move our online talks into reality.

I haven’t forgotten any of the filthy fantasies she told me about, and I never deleted our dirty messages. And if she thinks that I’m going to act like a “professional” and pretend like that shit never happened, she has another thing coming…

REVIEW

I don’t know how this author manages to always do it, but she does.  I laugh, I swoon, and the sex!  Gah, she makes me blush.  These short sexy snippets from Whitney G. are just plain fun and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.  Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a book with all of the feels, but sometimes in between those books I want a sexy book that requires little thought and Dirty Doctor was it.

The characters immediately pulled me in.  The heroine was majority sassy and smart which I absolutely loved because smart girls are sexy too, gosh darn it and the hero made me laugh hysterically on the regular through this one.  I read this one in bed next to my husband.  I kept laughing.  He kept asking why and I’d just look at him with big eyes.  I wasn’t telling him what Dirty Doctor was saying. LOL

Anyways.  for $.99 this is a steal.  Grab it!

CHEATER BY RACHEL VAN DYKEN REVIEW

31319454

5 Smooches!

a4-3 a4 a4-5 a4-4 a4-3

Synopsis

Lucas Thorn wasn’t born a cheater. All it took was a single moment—say, a certain disastrous incident on the night before his wedding—and boom. Reputation destroyed forever and always. So now he owns it. He has a lady friend for every night of the week (except Sundays—God’s day and all), and his rules are simple: No commitments. No exceptions.

But a certain smart-mouthed, strawberry blonde vixen is about to blow that all to hell.

Avery Black has never forgiven Lucas for cheating on her sister. And suddenly being forced to work with him is pretty much a nightmare on steroids. Of course, it does afford her the opportunity to make his life as difficult as possible. But no good revenge scheme comes without payback. Because he didn’t become the Lucas Thorn without learning a few things about women.

Now Avery’s lust for vengeance has turned into, well, lust. And if Lucas stops cheating, it’s definitely not because he’s falling in love…

REVIEW

I absolutely love when Rachel Van Dyken does angsty, emotional books and they used to be my very favorite of hers, but I have to say that she has been surprising the heck out of me lately with these amazing romcoms and Cheater was probably one of my favorites.

I asked myself what is it about these books that I love.  Is the plot really unique and original?  No, not really.  At first I couldn’t quite put my finger on what I loved about these books, but I’ve figured it out now.  Rachel Van Dyken, you are a funny, funny lady.  I often found myself laughing out loud with this one.  The story was sweet and predictable, but the characters weren’t. They were funny and quirky and I never really knew what was going to come out of their mouths.  And Avery, any girl who loves to eat could totally get down with her.  I felt like she was my sister from another mister.

I just adored this one and I have to say that I found this one a bit more sexy than some of authors other books and no, I didn’t mind a darn bit.  5 Stars.  This author hit this one out of the park!

I’m Only Here For The Beard by Lani Lynn Vale Cover Reveal with Excerpt and Giveaway

Title: I’m Only Here For The Beard
Series: The Dixie Warden Rejects #4
Author: Lani Lynn Vale
Genre: MC Romance
Release Date: May 31, 2017
Photographer: Furious Fotog
Model: Hankins Fitness
Sean is a man with needs—needs that a lot of women were ready and willing to fulfill. Yet, the only woman that he wants to fulfill them dumped him for another man. A man who’s a member of his MC and is someone he has to see every single day and twice on Sundays.
He’s bitter and angry. He’s definitely not in the right frame of mind when it comes to dealing with women. Which is unfortunate for his new partner, Naomi, a fresh-out-of-school and totally green paramedic.
Naomi’s got enough problems on her plate. A brother who’s self-destructive and doesn’t care who he takes down with him. A man who she’s in love with but who doesn’t love her. A job that she hates because it is a constant reminder of what she can’t have.
Desperate to distance herself from her problems, she runs, taking the first job in her field that she finds willing to take on someone with so little experience.
The last thing she needs is a perpetually pissed off partner, especially when he sets her blood on fire.
But life doesn’t ask how much you can handle when it dishes out challenges. It just keeps piling them on until you’ve bested them or you’ve buckled under them.
Sean really doesn’t want to like his new partner, Naomi. He just wants to be left alone to live his life however he damn well pleases and without complications.
Naomi doesn’t care what he wants, she can’t be anything but herself. It isn’t long before she’s breaking down his walls and making him feel again. She’s trying to pull him closer and he’s pushing her away.
It’s not long before Sean sees the error of his ways.
It’s too bad, though, that by the time he realizes she’s the one, Naomi’s already gone.
“What was all that?” he wondered.
I turned to find him standing in the entranceway to my room, watching me zip the final length of zipper.
“Uhhh,” I hesitated.  “Papers I was going over.”
His eyes lit up.
“I know medical supplies when I see them,” he drawled. “I’ve been a paramedic for ten years now, and I was an EMT in the Marines for a few years, too.”
So he realized I was lying to him.
Nice.
What do I say now?
He must’ve realized that I didn’t want to say anything, though, and let me out of it.
“If you don’t want to tell me, don’t tell me,” he drawled.
I bit my lip.
“I don’t want to tell you.”
His grin got wider. “Fine. Let’s go eat.”
“Let’s,” I scrambled up and shoved my phone into my pocket as I headed for the door.
I snatched my purse along the way, which happened to have an emergency supply of supplies needed for stoma care, my Kindle, a few chargers, and my wallet.
“You should really fear for your back’s health when you carry that thing around,” Sean said as he held open the door.
My mouth tipped up into a grin.
“Yeah,” I asked. “I’ll have to file that under my ‘I don’t care’ tab.  It has a lot of shit in it I need.”
“You haven’t read that Kindle once,” he said. “I can see it in there, too. It’s that new Oasis one. Do you like it?”
I walked to the back of the medic, and would’ve picked up the baggie, but Sean started the medic up and put it into reverse before I could.
I bit my lip, wondering if he’d see me take it to the trash or not, and decided to get it when we got home.
I did manage to kick it to the side so it didn’t get ran over, however.
The moment I was in the passenger seat, I let my bag fall to the floor between my feet and tried not to stare at my trash that I’d left in the grass.
Sean didn’t seem to notice, thank God, and backed out of the garage before shutting the door with practiced ease.
“Do you ever let others drive if you’re not in the back?”  I questioned him.
He shrugged. “No.”
My mouth twitched.  “Did you get wet on the way to work today?”
My eyes took in the gray skies that’d been pouring down water for the last six hours.  It’d been raining when I’d woken up and now, four hours into my shift, it hadn’t let up once.
The poor city, I’d heard, wasn’t very accepting of the rain due to a flood that’d hit Mooresville about a year ago. A flood that the people of Mooresville, Alabama were still trying to clean up after.
Luckily, the rain wasn’t meant to continue much past the late evening hours, and it was supposed to dwindle down into drizzling rain—a paramedics worst nightmare—very shortly.
“Yeah,” he grunted. “Though my leather covered me most of the way. I just had to change my pants—which I planned to do anyway.”
“Gotcha. That must’ve been your first forty-five minutes in the bathroom this morning.”
His eyes narrowed as he turned his head and glared at me.
“I can’t help it. It takes as long as it takes.”
My mouth twitched.
“Hmm,” I murmured, reaching down for my phone as an idea hit me.
“Hey, today I saw something on Facebook about a squat potty,” I told him. “Have you heard about that?”
“No,” he grunted. “Can’t say that I have.”
My grin spreading, I pulled out my phone and started typing.
“What are you doing?” he asked nervously.
I batted my eyes at him, causing his own to narrow on my face.
“There’s something weird going on with your eyes,” he said in a monotone voice. “Would you like me to check them out for you?”
I stuck my tongue out at him and went back to my typing.
“Google is my friend,” I informed him, and grinned as I typed into the search bar ‘things that will make you go to the bathroom faster.’
And there, at the very top result, was the Shark Tank invention ‘Squatty Potty.’
I clicked on the first link which took me to Amazon, and started reading the description to him.
“This evolutionary invention is your new best friend.  It will encourage bowel movements, and cut your bathroom time in half.” I stopped and turned my eyes to look at him.  “That’s what you need.”
He flipped me off and continued driving, heading straight for Taco Hell.
“This is a different concept at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’ll become like second nature,” I continued. “What used to take forty long minutes, with butt tingling numbness about halfway through, now is a quick in and out process that you won’t have one single complaint about.  Satisfaction guaranteed!”
He was shaking his head furiously, his cheeks becoming pink.
“You buy that for me and I will literally kill you. I’ll bury your body in the woods outside my parents’ place, too,” he informed me.
I bit my lip and started laughing inwardly as I clicked the ‘Buy It Now’ option on my phone.
In two quick pages of buttons and clicking, I had it shipped next day, and closed my phone.
I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 5, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.

Synopsis

Mark Carrington already broke my heart once.

This sexy, temperamental playboy might dominate the major leagues, but there’s no way in hell I’m letting him play ball with my heart again.

Until I find myself facing him down every morning on our new radio show, and his undeniable hotness starts to break down my resistance–and almost erase all the memories of how he dumped me back in high school.

We’ve both grown up since then, and now Mark is even more gorgeous and infuriating than ever. But I can’t get away from him–not when my beloved alternative rock station depends on his sexy ass to avoid getting bought out by a greedy corporation.

But when he corners me in the production room to compliment my sexy radio voice and admire my David Bowie T-shirt, it’s all I can do to keep my clothes on and my hands off of him. So I don’t.

And the more I get to know him, the more I realize he’s hiding a big heart behind all that swagger. And the deeper we get, the deeper I fall.

REVIEW

Rose and Mark have a history together. Each of them  have a different idea on how things were back in high school but either way Rose was left feeling hurt and broken hearted. Rose is adamant she won’t let Mark into her heart (or panties) again! But when Mark has to work at her radio station for a few weeks, things definitely start to heat up between them and staying apart from each other isn’t as easy as Rose thought it would be. And the longer they spend together, maybe Rose doesn’t want to be apart from Mark at all?

“I have reached a new level of mad, sad horniness.”

This was such a fun, flirty, entertaining read. It really kept me laughing the whole way through and the chemistry and back and forth banter between Mark and Rose was so much fun to read!

“He pulls me close to him and his hot, naked chest against mine drives me wild. I can feel every inch of those pecs on my tits, his washboard abs hard against my stomach, digging into me, our hip bones colliding.”

Rose was a great character for me. She was feisty and sassy. Despite the spark between her and Mark, she wasn’t about to roll over and forgive everything with just a few of Mark’s smiles and flirty behaviour. She really stood up for herself and gave just as good as she got!

“I want her to beg for my cock. I want her to lose track of the world, she’s so lost in ecstasy. I want to watch her come again and again and know it’s me driving her mad…and I want to hear her say she wants to be here with me too.”

I feel like Mark might be marmite for some people. I did liked Mark, I thought he was funny and cocky and confident which are things I find attractive in our heroes (in the right measure of course) but I could see why some people might get annoyed by the things he says. I personally really enjoyed his and Rose’s connection when they were on the radio and he was definitely a flirty, sexy, make-you-want-to-drop-your-panties kind of male lead!

“My hands squeeze into fists and so does my heart. I am back in a swirl of anxiety and sadness. I hear Geo’s words in my head as she fed me the best s’mores she ever made. “You got this, Rose.”

Yeah. I got this. I am a Rose, which means I’ve got thorns.”

This was such an easy read that you could enjoy on a Sunday afternoon, when what your looking for is a fun, sexy read. It will make you laugh, smile, sigh, maybe shed a few tears and shake your kindle in anger, but generally you will leave this story feeling happy and romantic.

Love Under Construction by M.C. Cerny Review

MC Cerny - Love Under Construction - Cover Image

3.5 SMOOCHES

a4-5 a4 a4-4 a5

SYNOPSIS

A new romantic comedy by M.C. Cerny, Love Under Construction is book one in the Love By Design series. Come meet a sullen, stubborn hero with a 2×4 stuck up his rear about falling in love, and a heroine who has watched every episode of the Property Brothers ready to flip her dream house. Between every construction nightmare possible, animals that need to move out, and friends determined to interfere, what could possible go right? Step into a small town with a big heart, and laugh your way into love. Each book in the LBD series is a standalone HEA romance.

Hunter Hart knows construction.

He knows relationships hurt after watching his parents self destruct.

Somehow he forgot all the warnings when Taylor Jane Bryant blasted through the crumbling foundation around his heart.

Taylor Jane Bryant knows home design.

Well… she thinks she knows based on marathon sessions of her favorite television show.

Now she’s all grown up and ready to nail the last stud, Hunter Hart.

REVIEW

This was my first time reading M.C. Cerny, and I went into this story liking the premise considering I am a fan of these types of shows on television. I also love the whole friends-to-lovers trope, so Love Under Construction sounded like it would be right up my alley.

It was cute and sweet and funny, for the most part. But something, and honestly, I can’t put my finger on what exactly it was that was missing for me, but something was. I had difficulty connecting with Taylor Jane and Hunter and trouble feeling the connection between them as more than friends, and as a result it just wasn’t what I hoped it was going to be. There were some sections where I struggled with the urge to skim over what I was reading, and on several occasions, I found myself not enjoying what I was reading enough that I needed to put the book down and walk away. It actually took me several days to even get through the book, and well, that’s just not me at all. I’m the type of person who reads at least one book a day, sometimes more.

It’s not all bad news, though. It was well written and edited, and I did laugh at some of the humor. There were things about this book that I enjoyed, and because of that, I will definitely give this author another try at a later date. Truthfully, I think this is one of those personal preference issues, an “it’s me and not the book” kind of thing or maybe even it was that I was having an off couple of reading days, which happens to all of us as readers sometimes. I think if you’re a fan of a friends-to-lovers storyline, or if the premise of this book (which I really did love the sound of!) interests you, you should give it a try, and hopefully it’ll work better for you than it did for me. But whatever the reason, ultimately there was just a bit more that didn’t work for me personally than there were things that did, and because of that Love Under Construction by M.C. Cerny gets 3.5 smooches from me.

So to get through the rest of my days in high school, I tell myself I need to focus on more important things. Like taking our football team to championships. Get accepted to the college of my choice. And finish my senior year without wanting to run away from my problems.

But your problems chase after you no matter where you go. And it’s a lot harder when you fight them alone. The longer I go without Amanda, the more I miss her. Her smile. Her laughter. The things she said. How she looked at me like I was the only person who mattered. The way she made me feel…

Why can’t I have everything, including the girl? I’m determined to make things right. And make Amanda mine…

Forever.

We’re a battle of the brightest day and the darkest night—and I want to lie in the wake of our war.

excerpt

My head shook absentmindedly as I tried to comprehend all that he had told me.

Knowing the man Lucas was behind the darkness, I couldn’t grasp why he had ever fought to get into this life at all.

“I’d been wondering what had happened in your life to make you into the devil I saw so often at the beginning,” I began, my voice soft . . . almost hesitant. “But now I wonder how you were able to remain you, instead of letting the devil completely consume you.”

“Don’t ever make the mistake of thinking that that part of me isn’t there.”

“I couldn’t,” I said honestly and huffed a small laugh. “He’s always there . . . I see you fighting him all the time. Now, more than I have in a long time.”

He held my stare, and his dark eyes burned with something I couldn’t define. “You’re afraid of me.”

I wished in that moment for my room so I could have something to hide behind, at least for a minute, because I knew I couldn’t hide any of the emotions coursing through me, and I couldn’t lie to him. “Yes,” I whispered and hated that he seemed to not only expect my answer but accept it. Reaching out, I traced around the outer edge of his eye, thankful I wasn’t shaking. “I’m afraid of the eyes I’m looking into right now. I’ve been afraid of them for a long time. I’m afraid of what I know about you now, but I wonder if I haven’t always known. If you haven’t hinted at it before . . .”

“Briar—”

“But the things you see in your mind that force me to see these eyes? They’ve been there this whole time. They were there when I fell in love with you, and I knew when I fell that they would always be there.” I watched as he fought with whatever haunted him and lowered myself back onto the bed and curled against his side. “The darkest part of your soul can terrify me, but it won’t cause me to leave.”

He gripped my hand in his, and mumbled, “Sometimes I wish it would.” Before I could react or respond, he continued. “If you think I’m dangerous, maybe you understand what my life is like, and maybe you can grasp the danger in throwing out the rules for you. Eventually someone other than William will see what you mean to me. And with who we are and what we do, we all have so many enemies who’ve been waiting for a chance to get back at us—to hurt us.” He raised our joined hands to kiss my wrist and let his lips linger on the skin there. “We don’t have weaknesses, Briar, but you are mine. They’ve been waiting for you.”

molly-mcadams

Molly grew up in California but now lives in the oh-so-amazing state of Texas with her husband, daughter, and fur babies. When she’s not diving into the world of her characters, some of her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling, and long walks on the beach … which roughly translates to being a homebody with her hubby and dishing out movie quotes. She has a weakness for crude-humored movies and fried pickles, and loves curling up in a fluffy comforter during a thunderstorm … or under one in a bathtub if there are tornados. That way she can pretend they aren’t really happening.
