I knew I’d never see her again. Except never came a little early…

When my grandmother found out she didn’t have long to live, she embarked on a crazy trip—jumping out of airplanes and scuba diving with sharks.

After I repeatedly voiced my concern, Gram blocked me—her own grandson—on text and social media, leaving me only her travel companion Eleanor’s number.

Eleanor started sending me pictures of Gram’s adventures.  At first she seemed nice, but when I attempted to persuade her to talk some sense into her friend, she told me where I could stick my advice.  After that, photos arrived with snarky comments, and Eleanor and I got into it on more than one occasion.

When I heard Gram’s upcoming plans were more dangerous than ever, I hopped on a plane.

Since I arrived late, I headed to the bar for a drink, figuring I’d surprise her in the morning.

To my delight, I met a gorgeous woman looking for a no-strings-attached night.  Nora was just what I needed. She invited me back to her room, telling me to give her a ten-minute head start.  But when I went to pay her bar tab, I realized how much she’d had to drink.  As much as I wanted to ignore it, I couldn’t. So I stood Nora up.

I knew she’d be pissed, but I also knew I’d never see her again.

Except never came a little early.  Namely, the next morning when I went to meet my grandmother and her evil-spinster friend.  Because old Eleanor turned out to be young Nora from last night.  And if I thought the woman disliked me before, that was nothing compared to how ticked-off she was now. Or how unhappy she was going to be that their party of two was about to become a party of three.

Beck threw his head back in laughter. I’d just insulted the guy, and he was amused. “I guess I made a pretty sh*tty first impression.”

I deadpanned. “You told me I should look someplace more respectable for my dates.”

“I thought you deserved better.”

“I think you’re full of sh*t. You’re only being nice now because you know I was looking for a night of no strings attached, and you think you have a shot at being my replacement.”

“Am I out of the running?”

I took a moment to check him out again. Damn, he’s pretty. “You’re only hanging on by a thread because you’re gorgeous.”

A slow, sexy smile spread across his face. “I like your honesty.”

“I like your jawline.”

His eyes gleamed. “You’ll like my big di¢k even better.”

I bit my bottom lip. The conversation had just taken a turn toward most of my Tinder messages—definitely a place I was more comfortable than talking about why I wanted to forget my life for a while. “How do I know you’re not a serial killer?”

“How did you know the Tinder loser wasn’t?”

Good point. I sipped my wine. “How old are you?”

“Old enough that I know what to do with you, and young enough that I don’t have to take a pill to do it.”

I smirked. “Is that so? You know what to do with me?”

He smiled self-assuredly. “I do, yes.”

The air crackled between us. For some reason, I knew this guy could deliver on his promise. Maybe it was his quiet confidence, or maybe it was that a man who looked the way he did got lots of practice. The latter would’ve been a turnoff if I was looking for more than one night, but it didn’t much matter if it served my purposes for a one-time deal.

I looked into his too-blue eyes. “Tell me then.”

“Tell you what?”

“What you would do with me.”

The wicked grin that slid across his face almost made me want to take back what I’d asked. Almost.

Beck lifted his glass and gulped his drink before leaning over to my ear.

“I’d start by…

REVIEW:

Something Unexpected is a very fitting title for this book from Vi Keeland. A deeply emotional and steamy new contemporary romance, Keeland kept me guessing with a story that tugged at my heartstrings. Keeland’s masterful storytelling captured a range of emotions from heart-wrenching to heartwarming. I cried, I sighed, I swooned and I smiled my way through this poignant and passionate love story. I don’t want to give any spoilers away—I think readers should go into this story totally blind.

Keeland’s masterful, magical storytelling was showcased fantastically here. I was completely swept up in Nora and Beck’s unforgettable, unputdownable love story. Well-crafted characters, intense chemistry and a compelling story made Something Unexpected a powerful and emotionally charged romance that has landed on my list of top favorites for the year. Five smooches from me for Something Unexpected by Vi Keeland!

REVIEW:

Devney Perry’s Crimson River is the fifth novel in the family saga romance series, The Edens. A breathtakingly intense and deeply emotional romance, I was on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Perry’s masterful storytelling shines through in this captivating tale of secrets and intrigue and steamy romance. I was completely enthralled by the richly developed characters and the gripping mystery unfolding against the backdrop of a small Montana town.

Lyla Eden, the owner of the local Quincy coffee shop, is a hardworking, down-to-earth and driven woman focused on her business. Vance Sutter, an Idaho police officer, is on the hunt for a murderer, and the trail leads him to Quincy and Lyla. He’s spent the last four years hunting this fugitive, and he’s not looking for anything other than this man. Lyla is the last person to have encountered him, and Vance ends up in Quincy to continue the hunt. Perry expertly weaves together their stories, unraveling their secrets and exposing their vulnerabilities in a way that kept me utterly engrossed in the story. The chemistry between Lyla and Vance is electrifying, and their emotional journey was portrayed with depth and authenticity, evoking a range of emotions from heartache to hope.

Perry’s evocative prose effortlessly transported me to the small town of Quincy, and she skillfully balanced the romance and mystery plot arcs, creating a perfect blend of passion and suspense. I was hanging on every word as the twists and turns of the plot unfolded, and their “for now” relationship slowly morphs into forever. Perry’s impeccable storytelling, complex characters, the steamy romance and an expertly crafted plot made this a completely unputdownable read. I am counting the days until the next book in this series! Five smooches from me for Crimson River by Devney Perry!

The fur is about to fly between a cheerful cat sitter and a grumpy hockey nerd in this hilarious and charming rom-com from New York Times bestselling author Helena Hunting.

Kitty Hart has become internet famous as the Kitty Whisperer for her expertise on all things feline, and as a result, her cat-sitting business is booming. But lately, she has a terrible feeling that maybe her life isn’t quite going where it’s supposed to—especially after falling face-first into her newest client. Not exactly the best first impression.

Fortunately, Miles Thorn is just as bad at first impressions. Strike one: he doesn’t like cats, especially Prince Francis, the haughty and mischievous Sphynx his mom left in his care. Strike two: tackling her to the floor in a misguided attempt to save the pet he continually calls “the gremlin.”

As awkwardness slides into attraction and things start to turn purr-sonal, will these two complete opposites ever be able to find their furry-tail ending?

Chapter One

THE KITTY WHISPERER

Miles

“I can’t believe this is real.” I stare in mild disbelief at the top trending advertisement on my computer screen for several seconds before I move my cursor to hover over the website name. I’m afraid that what’s being advertised and what will pop up when I click the link are two very different things. I squeeze one eye shut and narrow the other, already expecting the worst.

A knock on my office door has me accidentally clicking the link instead of closing the window.

“The Kitty Whisperer?” Thankfully it’s not my boss. It’s my best friend and colleague, Josh Halpern.

I spin around, eyes wide. “Wanna say that a little louder? I don’t think Tom at the end of the hall heard you.”

He steps into my office and closes the door, one eyebrow raised as he surveys the space.

It’s a small office, but it has a window. The view is of the side of the building next door, but it opens, so that’s nice. And it’s better than my last job, where I worked in what we affectionately called the dungeon. Three other guys and I had cubicles in the basement. It was next to the laundry room, and noisy, and sometimes it smelled a bit funky, unless the laundry was on the dryer cycle. Then it was hot, but at least it smelled like dryer sheets.

“Uh, dude, unless you’re actively looking to get your ass fired during your first month, you probably shouldn’t be checking those sites at work.”

“It’s a cat-sitting service, not one of those sites. And to be clear, I would not willfully use the company server for that kind of browsing.”

Josh is the reason I have this job, and I don’t want to do anything to make him look bad. Or get myself fired before I even have a chance to prove I’m an asset to the team. We’re heading into the regular NHL season, and my role as a data analyst is to run player stats and help management know when to use players to maximize performance.

“You just gotta be careful, man,” he warns. “You’re new, and any non-work-related browsing should be limited to nonwork hours. Management is pretty strict about that.”

I motion toward the cup of ramen noodles in front of me. “It’s my lunch break, so I figured it would be okay.”

“Oh. Well, you don’t have to eat lunch at your desk.”

“I know. I just needed to get this situation managed, so I was killing two birds with one stone.”

“What situation is that?” He steps up beside me and leans in closer to get a better look at my screen, his face scrunching in confusion. “Is this for real?”

“It certainly seems that way, yes.” The website has an overwhelming number of cat videos. And there’s a meowing soundtrack in the background that takes all of five seconds to become grating. I turn down the volume.

“Why are you on this site?” He raises a hand in front of his face as a space cat gif cycles every five seconds. It’s a lot. “Dude, can you do something, like click to another screen? I’m getting a headache from all the flashing.”

I click on one of the social media icons, navigating away from the website.

“Kitty Hart? A hundred thousand followers? That can’t be her real name,” Josh mutters. “It must be a gimmick.” He steals the mouse from me and clicks on the individual images, apparently no longer concerned about the inappropriate use of my work computer. It’s understandable, since this is an alluring albeit strange rabbit hole to fall into. The first picture is a closeup of “Kitty” holding a…you guessed it…kitty. A tiny one with a smooshed-in face.

Kitty—the human—smiles widely at the camera, apparently unconcerned about the awkward angle of the selfie, so we’re essentially looking right into the black holes of her nostrils. Regardless, the image has seven thousand likes and nearly four hundred comments, most of which are positive with lots of heart eyes and people telling her they love her.

“Why are you creeping on this woman?”

REVIEW:

Helena Hunting’s A Love Catastrophe is a very light-hearted romantic comedy that will leave you grinning from ear to ear. Hunting’s signature wit and humor shine through in this easy-reading, enemies-to-lovers tale of unexpected encounters and quirky mishaps. Prepare to be entertained by the lovable characters, uproarious situations, and the infectious sweetness of this feel-good romantic romp.

Cat sitter, Kitty Hart, is the eccentric, sweet, animal-whisperer hired by the broody, moody, dog-loving data analyst, Miles Thorn. He needs someone to watch over his mother’s trouble-making cat while she’s in hospital. Their snappy banter and opposites-attract chemistry fuel the build-up of this enemies-to-lovers romance.

Hunting’s comedic prowess, endearing characters and witty dialogue made for an amusing read that charmed me with the humorous and heartfelt romance of Kitty Hart and Miles Thorn. Four smooches from me for A Love Catastrophe by Helena Hunting!

Hearing it was why my husband of nineteen years looked from placing some of his folded T-shirts into one of his Tumi cases, to me.

His next wasn’t a grunt, it was gentle and sweet, and butchering when he repeated, “Yeah.” “So, we’re done,” I said tonelessly.

He straightened from his packing, “Wyn—”

“Like so much else in our lives, you have decided we’re done.”

His beautiful, full lips thinned.

But he didn’t answer.

The suitcase on our bed that he was packing, the leather bag he used for weekenders already crammed full, zipped shut and sitting on the floor, his workout bag the same, the Tumi carry-on the same, his empty part of the closet and currently emptying drawers…

These were his answer.

“There’s no talking about this? Working this out?” I asked.

“We’ve talked ad nauseam. We’ve—”

I leaned his way and grated out, “Nineteen fucking years, Remy. You’re just throwing that away?”

I could see immediately he was getting angry (I mean, it was actually twenty-one fucking years, including dating, engagement, so of course I would). “I’m not throwing dick away, Wyn.”

I glanced pointedly at each bag that told a different tale.

“You never took a goddamn thing I said seriously,” he noted.

Okay, now I was getting angry.

“Are you insane?” I demanded.

“Were you in California last weekend?” he asked.

I felt my hair sway as my back went ramrod straight.

“I asked you not to go, you went,” he bit out.

“You told me not to go, and it was work, I couldn’t not go. So yes, I went.”

“You can do whatever the fuck you want, Wyn, you own the goddamned company. That includes saying no and sending someone else.”

“And how, precisely, do I say no to Fiona Remington?”

“You open your mouth and form the letters n and o.”

I stood there, staring at the man I’d shared a bed with for decades, the father of my three children, and I felt cold creep over my skin.

“I’m on the cover of the top magazine in my business, for fuck’s sake,” he stated. “On it for winning that award this weekend, and my daughter was my date because my wife was kissing ass in Hollywood.”

That cold grew icy.

“You don’t want to do this, Remy,” I warned. “There’s no coming back from this.”

“Of course I don’t want to do this, Wyn,” he spat. “But you’ve given me no choice.”

Oh no, he did not.

I swung an arm out to the Tumi. “So this is on me?”

“The city of fucking Phoenix gave me an award, Wyn, and you were not here.”

“The highest-paid, most critically acclaimed actor in Hollywood asked me to style her for awards season, Remy, and she had this one window to sit down for a consultation before she’s off to Algiers to begin a punishing three-month shoot, and she won’t step foot on American soil until two days before the award shows begin. So I needed to be there.”

“Yeah,” he said, the finality in that syllable like a crush of stones landing on my head. “You did.”

After he spoke those words, he walked back to the dresser and emptied the drawer.

As he shoved the tees in with the others, I whispered, “There’s no coming back from this, Remy.”

He didn’t look at me as he flipped the suitcase shut, zipped it, and then tugged it from the bed.

Only when he had both bags over his shoulders, the suitcases tipped to their wheels—strong and fit, my rugby-playing husband, he didn’t seem weighed down at all with a representation of our entire life hanging off his shoulders—did his eyes find mine so he could give me an answer.

And that answer was not his words.

“I know.”

That answer was my tall, strong, handsome husband walking out our bedroom door.
