“Life taught me an eternal love will demand the worst sacrifices. A transcendent love will split your soul, cleaving you into pieces. A love this strong doesn’t grant you sweetness—it grants you pain. And in that pain is the greatest pleasure of all.”

Q made me the happiest esclave in the world. He gave me his heart, his empire, his ruthless unforgiving love. And life finally left us in peace.

A man like my maître has special needs though, growing stronger as our lives intertwine. The only way to survive his monster is to agree to all his desires.

Including his latest wish.

I’m his.

And I won’t refuse.

“Don’t struggle. You know I’ll keep you safe.” Q’s murmur danced down my back.

My panic receded as trust billowed fast and true.

Q was born into darkness, but he’d never baptized me in his blackest desires. And because of that, I could implicitly say he spoke the truth. No matter what he did to me, he would never truly harm me.

Q paused, his tattooed chest soaking. His feathered sparrows fluffing off droplets almost alive on his skin. “I told you once never to fall for me. That I didn’t want the curse of breaking your heart while I broke so many other pieces of you.” His hands landed on my breasts, cupping them reverently. “Yet you fought me, just like you said you would. You fell for me, just like you promised me you would. And now, you’re willing to give me what I need even after I tricked you and lied.”

I swayed as I fell even deeper for this complex husband of mine. Q was all my fantasies in one glorious lifetime. The fact he finally wanted to share me with his child spoke volumes about his capacity to love.

“I’m so glad you ignored me, esclave.” His fingertips branded my nipples with pain. “So fucking happy you married me.” Pushing me backward, he smiled harshly as my spine met the pool wall. His chest strained as he sucked in a heavy breath. “You’re so fucking beautiful.”

My heart hammered in my ears as he kissed me.

His tongue laced with mine, and I sank into the sweet embrace, knowing it would be the last I received tonight. The air crackled with an impending storm. Q’s control frayed every second, his eyes drenching in determination and the salacious need to hurt.

Breaking the kiss, he opened his hand, revealing the other item he’d retrieved.

A tiny pair of silver scissors.

Excerpt

Here’s a taste of Luke & Callie…

I stand and move to him. His back muscles tense when I place my hand on his shoulder. “I want to get to know everything about you, Luke Hardy,” I say and he spins around to face me.

His eyes search mine. “You already know the important bits.”

“No, I don’t.” I rest my hand against his chest. “I don’t know the secrets you keep locked in here. They’re the important bits.”

His intake of breath is sharp and he wraps his hand around mine. His other hand slides around my waist and he pulls me close.

Oh, shit.

No.

Too close.

But his lips brush across mine before I can move out of his embrace. His hold is tight and his message is very clear—he’s in charge here and if a kiss is what he wants, a kiss is what he will have.

He surprises me, though, and angles his face away from mine. Still keeping hold of me, he says, “I know we’re doing the friends-only thing for awhile, but a man’s got needs, Callie. If you put your hands on me, you better be prepared for the consequence of that.”

I’m pretty sure my eyes almost pop out of my head. I knew Luke was bossy—oh, boy did I know—but this is a whole new level of bossy. His deep voice vibrates along my skin, scattering goose bumps, while his eyes penetrate my soul. Those intense, green eyes of his will do it to me every time. They’ll cause me to forget everything I’ve ever said or thought and just cling to him for the ride.

He dips his face again and his mouth finds mine. The moment our lips connect sparks of desire burn through me. I’m so damn hot for him and I can’t control myself. I push my body hard against his and open my mouth to him.

He tastes like whiskey and I make a note to buy some just so I can remember this moment forever. I’ve never loved whiskey before, but it may just be my new favourite drink.

This kiss will forever live in my mind. Luke doesn’t simply kiss—he possesses. He takes me mind, body and soul.

In this kiss I find hope.

Hope that he will fight for me.

For the us we both want.

Get the beginning of Sergio’s story in Elude on sale now.

Twenty-Four hours before we were to be married–I offered to shoot her.

Ten hours before our wedding–I made a mockery of her dying wish.

Five hours before we were going to say our vows–I promised I’d never love her.

One hour before I said I do–I vowed I’d never shed a tear over her death.

But the minute we were pronounced man and wife–I knew.

I’d only use my gun to protect her.

I’d give my life for hers.

I’d cry.

And I would, most definitely, lose my heart, to a dying girl—a girl who by all accounts should have never been mine in the first place.

I always believed the mafia would be my end game–where I’d lose my heart, while it claimed my soul. I could have never imagined. It would be my redemption.

Or the beginning of something beautiful.

The beginning of her.

The end of us.

EXCERPT:

“Taxi.” I held up my hand. “It’s too cold to walk.”

“Is it?”

“For those of us who have hearts,” I said under my breath.

He paused and then burst out laughing. “Holy shit, was that a dig at me?”

I shrugged as the taxi pulled up.

“Damn, and you’re not even apologizing.”

“It was more of a passing comment under my breath…” I got into the taxi and slid across the cold, worn vinyl seat. “But true.”

Sergio slammed the door after him. “And here I thought I was making a good impression.”

“You offered to kill me if I kissed you.”

The taxi driver frowned into the rearview mirror.

“She’s kidding,” Sergio reassured him.

I refused to let him get off that easy. “You also look at me like you want to throw up.”

Mr. Taxi Driver’s nostrils flared.

“Uh.” Sergio laughed uncomfortably. “I just have a lot on my mind.”

“The wife.”

Taxi Driver’s eyes looked like they were going to bug out of his head. Yeah, this was probably the best entertainment he’d had all day.

“I don’t talk about it,” Sergio said in a drop-the-subject voice.

“Maybe you should.”

“I have enough money to afford a therapist, thank you,” he said through clenched teeth.

“Money doesn’t buy happiness,” I fired back.

Sergio released a string of pithy curses. “Did someone spike your milk this morning during show and tell?”

“Lactose intolerant.”

“Sorry. Your Kool-Aid.” His eyes narrowed. “It’s like you’re trying to piss me off.”

Bingo. I smiled. “Funny, that’s what Dante says to me all the time. Just think of all the things you get to look forward to. Isn’t that what you said you wanted?”

Sergio looked ready to strangle me. “No. I don’t believe I asked for an annoying little sister, but if that’s what you’re offering, please don’t let me stop you. Just know, I won’t hesitate to put you over my knee if you get out of hand.”

The minute the words left his mouth. I froze.

He froze.

The taxi driver stared little laser-like holes into the rearview mirror.

And Sergio leaned toward me.

I swallowed as tension swirled around us.

He gripped me by the chin and turned my head to the side, his lips brushing my ear. “It’s like you have a death wish.”

“You wouldn’t do it.”

He pulled back as both of his eyebrows shot up, and then he looked down, like something had caught his eye.

I followed the direction of his gaze and let out a little gasp as a gun dug into my stomach.

“It’s been directed at you for the last four minutes,” Sergio said through a practiced smile. “I meant what I said. Listen well. I keep my word. Kiss me, and blood will be spilled.”

“Y-you’re a crazy person!” I hissed, shoving at his chest. “And I wasn’t going to kiss you!”

“Sure you weren’t.” He put the gun away. “Good talk though, right? Oh look, the movie theater.”

To say that I scrambled out of the car like a kid running away from her kidnapper would be a gross understatement, but the minute my feet hit the pavement, I paused.

My body told me to run.

The guy had pulled a gun.

On me.

I didn’t even watch violent movies, I’d just panicked and said the first thing that popped into my head!

And I was about to go to the theater with a guy who probably showered in blood on a daily basis and by the looks of it — got off on it.

Shivering, I forced myself to take a deep breath and wrapped my jacket tighter around my body.

That was the thing about men like Sergio, or maybe just loyalty in general. He’d promised he would keep me safe, but I wondered if that promise was only extended until I was more trouble than I was worth.

I was safe, not because of what I was to him.

But because of who my dad had been to him.

I was nothing.

And yet, a part of me still yearned to be… something.

Anything really.

Pathetic.

“Change your mind?” Sergio’s smooth voice interrupted my thoughts. He was the type of man you felt even when he wasn’t speaking. His presence was impossible to ignore, kind of like his ridiculous good looks.

Weren’t mafia guys supposed to be old?

Fat?

Chain smokers who bought Cuban cigars and sat behind large desks while counting money and ordering hits on people who pissed them off?

“No.” I finally found my voice. “I was just thinking….”

“About?” His hand touched my back, ushering me forward, but not pushing, almost as if he was giving me the option of still saying no.

I increased my pace so that I couldn’t feel the warmth of his fingertips. “Popcorn.” I turned and winked, hoping it would hide the fact that my body was shaking.

Maybe I was the crazy one.

Because he was armed.

The man was armed.

And he had no qualms about pointing his weapon at me whenever I got too close.

Huh, we’d have a happy marriage.

I guess we’d never argue, since I liked living.

And, you know, breathing.

It would suck not to make my twenty-first birthday because I didn’t fold the towels just right.

And again, I froze.

Was he that neurotic? Or was it just the closeness?

“On a scale of one to ten…” I was proud of the way I kept the shaking out of my voice. Why was I so scared? Oh right, because he’d pointed a gun, no, shoved a freaking gun into my stomach and done it with a smile on his face. “How OCD are you?”

An easy laugh escaped him as he glanced around the movie theater lobby and then back at me. “What makes you think I’m OCD?”

“Things.” I gulped then forced a smile that I didn’t feel. How was I supposed to go through an entire movie knowing he was one uncomfortable conversation away from losing it? “So?”

“What can I get you?” A teen boy looked at Sergio then smiled wider when his eyes fell to me.

Immediately, Sergio wrapped a protective arm around me, basically forcing my body to curve into his warmth. “My wife and I will have two buckets of popcorn, two packs of Sour Patch Kids, and a bottled water.”

I didn’t correct him about the water.

“Wait.” Sergio held up his hand. “Sorry, Dr. Pepper mixed with Coke.”

The teen scrunched up his face then rung us up. His eyes fell to me again then back at the register, like he was trying not to look but couldn’t help it, which was comical, since I didn’t really think I was anything to look at.

When he handed Sergio back his change I could have sworn I heard a growl from my “husband.”

As it was, he jerked the candy so hard out of the kid’s hands that I was surprised he didn’t do a front flip over the counter.

“He’s a boy,” I whispered under my breath. “No need to shoot him too.”

Sergio glanced down at me, muttered a curse. “He was staring.”

“He looked about one science project away from solving world hunger via his mom’s basement… hardly the type of guy that I’d date.”

“Date?” Sergio said it so loudly the people in front of us waiting to show the attendant their tickets jumped and then turned around. “What the hell do you mean date?”

Crap. I’d messed up again.

My palms went sweaty while my face felt numb with fear. Regardless of how pretty he was to look at — I was finally fully aware of how dangerous he was to me.

To everyone around me.

Sweat trickled down my lower back as I gulped down more soda and shrugged. “I just mean, he’s not my type.”

“No shit he isn’t, because you don’t get a type anymore.”

“Right.” I licked my lower lip, pretending not to be scared, pretending to be the brave person I wasn’t was wearing on me.

By the time we made it into the theater I was dizzy.

It was too much all at once.

“So…” Sergio’s voice was in my ear. I jumped a foot. He frowned as if he couldn’t figure out why I’d be so jumpy. “Dante sits behind you, right?”

“Right.” I exhaled in relief. I forgot. It wasn’t a date. It was a challenge. He’d called me his sister, so therefore he was my brother, right? Hah. I relaxed a bit as I pointed to a seat a few rows back and quickly stole the goodies out of his hands then made my way to my own seat before he could object.

The credits started rolling.

And I found myself ducking in the chair.

The hair on the back of my neck stood on end.

As if I was being watched — because I was.

Ten minutes into the movie, I was so stressed out, I almost burst into tears. My back was to him.

Wasn’t that a big no-no? My back was to the dude with the gun.

Even though he was supposed to protect me with the gun, all bets were off now.

Sweat pooled in the palms of my hands.

The music rose as one of the actresses ran down the stairs screaming.

I couldn’t take it.

And then, a body sat down next to me.

Sergio gave me a suspicious look then put a seat between us.

I exhaled.

But it wasn’t relief.

At least I knew where he was.

And where the gun was, he was right handed, so there was that.

I finally allowed myself to relax enough to watch the movie when I saw Sergio’s right hand duck into his jacket.

I gripped the plastic arm rests, my fingers digging into the cheap sticky plastic material as he slowly pulled something out.

He turned.

And I flinched so hard that there was no mistaking what I thought he was doing.

Even though he had grabbed a black cell phone.

The damage was done.

My entire body shook as a big fat tear escaped, I tried to wipe it away but I wasn’t fast enough.

“S-sorry.” I shoved past him and ran.

But my body was too scared.

Too tired

To make it very far.

Review

‘To make eye contact with Sergio Abandonato was to know both pain and beauty simultaneously.’

I am a reviewer not an author so I am struggling to put into words how wonderfully surprising Empire was. I will be honest and say that Empire has been sitting on my kindle for quite a while waiting to be read and yet I kept going in and reading other books. Why you ask . . . honestly I was scared.  I loved Andi and Sergio with my full heart and I was scared that there was not room left for me to love another girl being with him. Tainting what they had. I was upset that he could so quickly be remarrying even if it was forced. So I waited and now that I have finished I am kicking myself for not reading it sooner. This book and these characters are everything.

‘He was going to be my husband. And the sucky part. He would never actually be mine.’

Val is the antithesis of Andi. She is young, innocent, curvy, and startle at the sound of a gun. Though she is the daughter of Luca she knows nothing of the mafia life. And now for her protection she is to be married to the shell of what is left of Sergio. Just two months prior, Sergio buried his wife, his love and he makes it abundantly clear that he will never love another. Val and Sergio’s road together is full of tears, heartache and growth. She challenges him in a completely new way and made it impossible for the reader not to only fall in love with her but desperately hoping he would too.

‘In her arms, I wasn’t a widower. I wasn’t mafia. I wasn’t anything but a guy; she made me feel that way, like nothing else mattered. It was cheesy. It was beautiful. It was like breathing for the first time.’

While Empire is still full of the guns and blood that is expected in the series I honestly thought this book more than any other focuses on the characters and the building of their relationship. I was constantly in tears, for their struggle, for their loss, and for their love. The entire series has slowly over time become one of my absolute favorites with each book just getting better and better.

‘The house was massive. Two stories. With a fountain in the middle. Huge. Fairy tale huge. Hah, ironic, that I’d get part of the fairy tale, at least let there be a library or something. Since I’d married the beast, give me books.’

Empire was absolute perfection and I cannot think of one thing I would change. That is a lie, there is one tiny part at the every very end of the book I would change in a heartbeat . . . the part that says the next book, Enrage, won’t be out until summer 2017. I do not think I can wait that long for Dante’s story.

REVIEW

I was excited when my blogger boss, Miranda, told me I was getting Roisin Black’s Someone To Come Back To. That blurb hooked me immediately—it sounded right up my alley. While the book definitely had the potential to be an amazing, 5-smooch read for me, I had issues with some of the dialect and language. They were disruptive enough to take me completely out of the moment on occasion and, as a result, these issues wound up impacting my overall reading experience.

The author is originally from Ireland and now resides in New Zealand, which is definitely not a problem for me whatsoever. Let me preface this further by saying that I love many authors from all over the world, many of my favorite authors are not American, and I definitely have diverse tastes when it comes to reading. My issue with this book, however, was that on occasion, it was the author’s voice coming through and clashing with the characters’ voices, and I found it to be quite distracting.

The heroine is a trauma surgeon from Brooklyn, NY, the hero is a US Navy SEAL and the story is based in the US—the Adirondacks in upstate New York, Brooklyn and Virginia. I am from the metropolitan New York area, born and raised, so I’m obviously quite familiar with the dialect and how people from this region of the US generally speak. Some of the things these characters said and thought, however, were phrased in such a way that was unnatural for characters based in these areas to speak. These statements and thoughts were awkward and odd and, given the rest of the conversations, they stood out and had an almost old-world, European, regency-romance feel to them. In fact, at times, this story read almost like an old-school, Harlequin-type, bodice-ripper but with a modern twist.

There are many instances I could refer to, but here are two examples of what I’m talking about:

“…you’re on your own in the middle of the wilderness, who needs a swimming costume?”

Or this statement, from a secondary character, a Jamaican woman who is the ER manager at the hospital where Maggie works in Brooklyn:

“The letter that informs you of your suspension whilst an internal inquiry is undertaken into your behavior on the last night you worked.”

I think that if this story progresses into a series, the author should consider adding a few American beta readers, and preferably one from New York, to get these language and dialect issues I encountered resolved. In doing so, I believe it would greatly enhance the authenticity of the characters, and it would definitely lessen the likelihood that readers are taken out of the story by dialogue that doesn’t quite fit the characters.

Although, I had these issues with this book, there was a lot here that did work—and work quite well—for me. The love story between John and Maggie definitely had an epically big and sweeping feel to it—seriously, the onslaught of emotion from these two was nearly overwhelming in its enormity, and had I not been distracted by the language, I could have easily been completely swept away in this story. It was romantic and life-changing and so, so incredibly sexy. These two characters were both hauling around enough baggage to fill the cargo-hold of jet. John was adamant in his decision to not seek out a relationship due to his career, and Maggie was so overworked and overwrought with the demands of her career that love just wasn’t even on her radar. Their attraction to each other, despite their best attempts to fight it off, was so magnetic and electric that they were unable to fight the inevitability of this relationship. But where do they go from here?

“… what if? What if I let her in? What if I give this a chance? She’s strong, independent, feisty. Just the sort of woman who can handle me and all my baggage.”

Roisin Black did a fabulous job developing these characters. I love how she intertwined their thoughts into the story to further enrich what they said to each other. In that regard, this was a very well written story, and had there not been those dialect and language inconsistencies, this would have easily been a 5-smooch read for me. But because those issues were a distraction for me, I’m giving Someone To Come Back To 4 smooches.

REVIEW

When Autumn’s life is crushed due to family secrets and the heart wrenching events that follow, she knows she must escape the now lonely life she is being forced to live and so she runs to the little town of Haywater. There, she is still content to live her life but in the defences she has built up around herself. Until Zed comes crashing into his life. He has his own set of Desmond and guilt resting on his shoulders but he can’t stop the need he has to protect her, to be there for her and maybe to even cherish her. Will both Autumn and Zed let their own private demons free and let their defences down enough to give themselves the chance to fall in love?

“It’s time to awaken your beautiful soul, and take one step after another, until one day, you’ll find you’ve travelled a journey you had no idea you were capable of. Even the small steps matter.”

This book was so beautifully written, the characters so heartbreakingly damaged but strong at the same time. The author takes you to a place with her writing that makes you believe you are living the story alongside the characters.

“You’ve accepted your life for what it was for too long a time. Take back what should have been yours all along. Never settle. Fight for what you desire, what you deserve.”

Autumn was our beautiful, broken, sheltered heroine but she was also so determined, strong and one hell of a survivor! Yeah she had a horrible past, awful secrets and had every right to be quiet, meek and trodden down but throughout the story we see that nothing will keep her down and although she isn’t living life to the full, she is determined to live it, to be happy and have some fun. Zed, is our very hot, very determined, caring, playboy (to start of with) hero who is battling his own demons. Yet Zed still wants to protect, look after, and cherish our heroine, which makes him one of my all time favourite book boyfriends!

“You need to stop acting as though you need punishment, Autumn. Not one part of it was your fault. No amount of blame or guilt should be placed on your shoulders. You’ve lost too much already. You are not going to give up on this life without a fight.”

The story itself was beautiful, unique, sad, uplifting, romantic and tense; with passion, love, lies, and secrets, this story really has everything you could want to keep you hooked and to keep you turning the pages one after the other, after the other. We start of not knowing so much; what kind of family Autumn  has come from? What secrets and trauma has suffered? And this instantly draws us in. I needed to know what had happened, what had broken this girl? And when Zed makes his appearance even more questions arise and we fall so deeply involved with the characters, we become desperate to delve deeper into their lives.

“I’d f***ing failed her then. I refused to again. Life was cruel, and it was time to teach it a lesson. I needed to hurt someone, to get justice for whatever hurt had been caused, to offer payback.”

Two worlds truly collide in this unique, beautifully told, romance of two people rising up from heart breaking pasts to help each other break down their defences to heal themselves and maybe even find love.

Sienna Diaz is everyone’s favorite “fat” funny lady. The movie studio executives can’t explain it, but her films are out-grossing all the fit and trim headliners and Hollywood’s most beautiful elite. The simple truth is, everyone loves plus-sized Sienna.

But she has a problem, she can’t read maps and her sense of direction is almost as bad as her comedic timing is stellar. Therefore, when Sienna’s latest starring role takes her to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park she finds herself continually lost while trying to navigate the backroads of Green Valley, Tennessee. Much to her consternation, Sienna’s most frequent savior is a ridiculously handsome, charming, and cheeky Park Ranger by the name of Jethro Winston.

Sienna is accustomed to high levels of man-handsome, so it’s not Jethro’s chiseled features or his perfect physique that make Sienna stutter. It’s his southern charm. And gentlemanly manners. And habit of looking at her too long and too often.

Sienna has successfully navigated the labyrinth of Hollywood heartthrobs. But can she traverse the tenuous trails of Tennessee without losing her head? Or worse, her heart?
