Can Tessa achieve her dreams for the future, but still hold on to the past?

CM Foss is a hopeless romantic with a love for the written word. When she was little, her mom would ration her books so she wouldn’t go through them too quickly. It didn’t matter, she would just re-read. She’s always been an avid equestrian, competing in the top levels of Three Day Eventing by age seventeen. CM now resides in Northern Virginia with her husband and kids where they own and operate their own equestrian business, as well as raising grass-fed, sustainable meats. She doesn’t have this thing people call “free time”, but she does spend a weird amount of time writing, reading, playing with her kids, milking goats, and drinking wine, while avoiding bananas at all costs. Other books by CM Foss include Shiver, Swoon, and City Beautiful.

Review

Any book that has the heroine as the incredibly talented sports star, trying to break out in a male dominated sport has my attention right off the bat and the beginning of this charming love story Jock had my whole attention, for the first half of the book anyway, as it takes us through Tessa and Jace’s childhood and teenage years, giving us an invaluable glimpse into how Jace’s protective nature was often stifling for the younger girl but it’s through his role as her protector and bodyguard that their feelings become entwined and take on a more mature nature to them.

‘“No really.  Life is dirty.”  I stood up to pace.  “It’s messy and unfair and painful.  And the most beautiful things come out of it.  If you want to spend your life with another person, they’re gonna see it all anyway.  Why not throw it out there from the get-go?  Maybe the best romances come from the person who already knows your deepest and darkest.”’

There are some really well written scenes and dialogue in Jock, in fact the whole plot is well imagined, I just felt that some of it hurried along at too quick of a pace whereas other scenes dragged on unnecessarily.

Tessa strives to become a jockey, from the time she could walk her life revolved around training and horses but often times I found her character to be a little too focused on her career and I felt we never really got beneath the surface of her to find out enough to make me really care about her.  At times Tessa came across as a little self-centred and focused solely on her own goals without giving much thought to her family or Jace.  She’s intelligent, feisty and spirited but there was just something missing in her that I found I didn’t really connect with her character.  Jace too was a little one dimensional.  We know he feels a need to watch out for Tessa and play the big brother role even though he is only a friend of the family, but his growing attraction to Tessa lacked that sexual tension and passion I would come to expect in such a story, it was sweet and little low key with very few obstacles thrown in the way to disrupt the equilibrium.  It was an okay read but I didn’t feel that all important spark between the two main protagonists, it felt lacklustre and rushed.  There were certain important and tragic events in the story, during the beginning that were rushed along and glossed over that really needed to either be explored in depth or at least expanded upon.  I liked Jock but I didn’t love it.

***INCUMBENT IS A STANDALONE NOVEL INTENDED FOR READERS 18+ **

Review

I love a good naughty, sexy political escapade; the level of power and seduction and secretivity that comes with someone high ranking and the intrigue involved with sneaking around.  With Incumbent however, what we get is much more romantic and sweet than raunchy and lewd but it still manages to grasp your attention and deliver a very good and insightful storyline and what helps this along is some sterling characterisation in the form of both the handsome, charismatic United States Senator Drake and the shy, secretive school teacher Lucy.

Drake comes across as very confident without being annoying and arrogant, he finds something very alluring in Lucy and indeed discovers his inner alpha as he determines that he needs her and she belongs to him, but as he so eloquently puts it, not as his possession but as his girl.  Lucy is highly intelligent and a bit of a history and political buff but that isn’t all there is to the heroine.  We find out just how broken but resilient she is on the inside, caring but wary and hopeful too.  Drake has the power and social standing so it’s with trepidation that Lucy begins a beautiful and captivating love affair with him and as she has a few secrets in her past the could derail any chance Drake has at the presidency, Incumbent delivers on suspense and drama as well as romance and sensuality.

‘“Let me be the one,” I said softly.

With narrowed eyes, she leaned her head back to study me.  “The one to do what?”

“The one who makes your heart beat harder.  The one who makes you smile as if you don’t have a care in the world.”’

Mason, Lucy’s best friend offers some good support throughout the story as does Drake’s extensive and invasive but loving family, of who I’m sure we’ll see plenty of throughout this series.  Incumbent was a lovely read that could have benefitted from a bigger build up in sexual chemistry between the two protagonists but over all it was well written and I definitely look forward to reading the next book in the series and discovering which striking brother of Drake’s will be next to fall in love.

Thirteen years as a rugby superstar.
Thirteen years of winning streaks, of making more money than I’ve known how to spend, of women throwing themselves at me.
Thirteen years since I last saw her, knowing she has every right to hate me, her so-called stepbrother.
Thirteen years knowing I ruined her life and left without looking back.
Or so she thinks.

Money can’t buy forgiveness, but at least it can get my foot in the door.

Hooked is a complete, standalone romance novel with mature themes intended for readers 18 and over.

Review

Would you believe this is the first step-brother romance I’ve read.  I was probably too presumptuous about those storylines because I thought they all sounded so similar but I was glad I eased myself into this sub-genre with Iris Parker’s Hooked.

Simon Ferguson did nothing but make his step-sister Emelia’s life a living heck in the two years they spent under the same roof, thirteen years ago.  English, rugby playing and with enough swagger and confidence to rival any sports superstar, Simon feels the intense need to make amends and rectify all the wrongs he caused as a teenager, starting with intelligent and benevolent Emelia.

‘“That fire,” he said softly into my ear, his lips brushing the soft, tender patch beneath my earlobe as he made his way down towards my collar bone.

“And if I’m not more careful, it’s going to grow and grow.  You’re the only one who could put it out, and the blaze will devour me whole.”’

It was incredibly interesting to read the destructive and bitter teenage Simon’s diary entries, I think it was certainly beneficial so that we as the reader got an insight into how bad and haunting his thought process was but I still think we would have benefitted from actually going back to that time and experiencing those incidents because without them I still felt a strange disconnection from Simon.  Emelia is a kind hearted and forgiving heroine but one with a good backbone and integrity, especially when she has run ins with her arch nemesis, in fact some very good comedic scenes comes from a little friendly competition between the two.

It was a good book but I did think it needed expanded upon in certain areas.  I enjoyed it thoroughly but just didn’t love it because of this.  The sexual tension was again good but I feel like it too could have been explored a bit more therefore amping up the chemistry and friction between the hero and heroine.  It was well written and the dialogue was witty and fresh and the contrast between Simon’s English tongue and Emelia’s American was on point, usually it’s difficult to get it right without one of them coming across as stereotypical and misused, but Iris certainly has her characters down pat.

Synopsis

I met Jake when I was seventeen and at eighteen, I became his wife. The years that followed were enchanted, like a fairy tale romance.

Then, in the blink of an eye, my perfect world unraveled—I lost a part of myself and my dreams shattered around me.

At twenty-five, I was left a widow, pregnant, and mother of two.

Fast forward almost five years—I exist but I don’t “live”. I had to learn to live without him, with only our memories and my tears. I raised our children, and I lived his dream, without a thought to myself.

That is, until the day at the stoplight, when a pair of violet eyes stared back at me. In that moment, the numbness started to disappear, and lightning hit, changing my world once again.

This is a contemporary romance and book one in La Flor series. Each book will be able to be read as a STANDALONE, and some material is NOT suited for people under 18

Review

The great thing about this book is you kind of get two phenomenal love stories for the price of one and even though you are preparing for the inevitable heartbreak and hiccuping sobs and the wailing of why? you still can’t be fully prepared at how much a book, or its characters can affect you.  Truthfully, after having read the first couple of chapters and falling so helplessly in love with Jake and Faith and their fairytale meeting and romance, I never expected to connect with the main hero of the book Zane, simply because the history, connection and love between Jake and Faith seemed so ingrained and unconquerable that Zane didn’t seem to stand a chance but I was so very very wrong.

Zane is a walking, talking, motorcycle riding alpha hero that always gets what he wants and what he wants is Faith and the man has no qualms about letting her know just that pretty much straight off the bat.  After such devastation and self-induced loneliness, Faith has spent years concentrating on her family and her career never giving any other man a glance, until Zane is all his arrogance and cocksuredness pulls up next to her at a stoplight on his bike and from there it seems he is a man on a mission to integrate himself into Faith’s life but just as everything seems simple and a sensual romance begins to unfurl, secrets and mysteries surround exactly who Zane is and why he knows Faith so well.

‘“I’m lucky to have Faith’s love.  I have the amazing woman she has become in my life and I’ll fight till my dying breath to keep her.

I just need to make sure that the little secret I haven’t told won’t tear us apart.  Because man, it could make us or break us.  I just have to make her understand.”’

Leap of Faith is a beautiful and emotional read with just a touch of magic and a sense of wonder about it.  With it comes so many questions too, questioning the notion of the one, or soul mates, how can you determine who was, is or could be the very definition of that?  It was nicely written but I did find that Zane was a little too aggressive and maybe a little stalkerish when it came to gaining Faith’s attention and from there their relationship was a rapid whirlwind of romance, hot sex and feelings.  What I loved was Faith’s interactions with her girls and Zane’s, how attentive and caring he was to each woman in that family proved that under his toughened exterior and assertive manner he had a heart of gold and a soul to match.

Review

“I was Mrs. Blackwell. The name hung about me like an ill-fitting coat.”

A young girl from a small fishing village in Japan, Noriko, arrived in the United States, already married to billionaire CEO Drake Blackwell, to little fanfare. She was greeted by her husband’s driver and then welcomed to his estate by his suspicious and jealous assistant, Sasha. No shrinking violet, Noriko quickly put the condescending Sasha in her place and attempted to set the tone for their relationship. It would be several days before she’d meet her husband for the first time.  Essentially an afterthought to Drake, this is of note as this is basically how he treats her throughout the book.

“Maybe, one day, I could learn to love him.”

Alone, lonely and with nothing to occupy her time, Noriko begins to explore her new home. She stumbles upon the estate’s beautiful gardens, a replica of a Japanese garden, and it’s there that the she meets the young and incredibly handsome gardener, Keir. The attraction between them is instantaneous, and they talk animatedly about Japan and Japanese culture. That is until Keir learns that he is speaking with Mr. Blackwell’s new wife, Riko, and not a new employee as he assumed.

“I felt lost and very alone.”

A virtual prisoner in the estate, not permitted to leave the property or use the phone to call her family in Japan, having no friends or even anyone to talk to or spend time with, Noriko is left to her own devices day after day. Her time with Drake is very limited – occasionally dinner followed by sex – and only when he isn’t otherwise occupied with or traveling for work. They sleep in separate rooms, and he does not spend any time with her. Desperate for someone to talk to, she ultimately finds herself seeking out Keir, and after several tense run-ins, a fragile friendship is formed. They both know that they can never be more – they shouldn’t even be friends – but so powerful is the draw to one another, they both find it difficult to fight the pull.

“We would never just be friends.”

Inevitably, they cross the line from friends to lovers. Unsurprisingly, as the relationship progresses, Noriko becomes increasingly desperate for her freedom. She longs to be able to love freely, to be loved freely and to be free to leave the confines of the estate, or as she thinks of it, her prison. The risks are very high, and they both know that nothing more can happen with Noriko being married to another man – a very powerful man, who also happens to be Keir’s boss. Drake is a dark man, with demons from his past, and Keir has every reason to be worried about Noriko’s safety should Drake learn about their relationship. Of course he does find out, but who will pay the price?

This book was a departure from my normal type of book. I generally only read books with a HEA, and there really wasn’t one here, at least not in the typical sense expected by a romance reader. Noriko was just so miserable in her situation; her loneliness and desperate longing for freedom drove her to behave so recklessly and the consequences – ones she wasn’t truly mature or worldly enough to contemplate beforehand – she bore for those actions were grave. The author did a great job conveying Noriko’s sadness, loneliness and homesickness, as the reader spent a lot of time in this girl’s head, and you couldn’t help but feel it.

I didn’t dislike the book, not at all, but it isn’t really the kind of book that you “love.” It was fairly dark, very emotional and a bit of a head-trip, especially considering no one in this tale was innocent. There was no one, single bad guy to heap all the blame on here; everyone played somewhat of a role in what happened, although it was Noriko who ultimately had to live with end result.

This book was very well written and edited. I was impressed with the author’s attention to detail, the character development, and the plot and storyline were both interesting and well fleshed out. Again, not my usual type of book, but I still found myself turning the pages curious as to what would happen next. If you were looking for something a bit twisted and on the darker side, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Girl Wife Prisoner by Hanna Peach. 4 smooches from me!

His electric blue eyes focused on me, and in the bright hue of his gaze, the rest of his office seemed to melt away. I had no idea how he kept doing that to me—it was almost as if he were casting a spell over me, hypnotizing me with nothing more than a glance.

My heart thumped loudly in my chest at the lust I saw burning back at me. That hard-edged, animalistic lust that secretly drove me wild. I’d never tell him that. I was certain of it. I’d never give him that much power over me.

He already had enough.

“What’s wrong, sir?” I asked as I coyly twirled a piece of my hair around my finger.

“You’re starting to piss me off, Darcy,” he shot at me. The rough edge to his voice rumbled through the air between us until it hit me full-force. His words crawled over my skin, and each one carried the whispered promise. Or maybe it was a threat; I couldn’t tell.

“How can I piss you off? I haven’t done anything.” It was a petulant response, I knew that, but I didn’t care.

He pushed up out of his chair and stalked around his desk. I inhaled sharply, but he swept right past me and toward his door. Just when I thought he might pull it open and send me on my way, he turned the lock.

The click echoed through the air, and it did nothing for the butterflies that were rapidly fluttering in my stomach.

I hated him. It was getting clearer and clearer to me every day. I despised Professor Jordan Keaton, but I also craved him as badly as I needed my next breath.

He didn’t look at me as he shrugged off his jacket and hung it up on the hook on the door. He still didn’t look at me as he unbuttoned the sleeves of his crisp, white shirt and rolled them up to above his elbows. His upper arms seemed to strain against the fabric, his toned biceps becoming delightfully visible.

“Now, let’s try this again,” he said, his voice deathly low. It scared me and thrilled me all at the same time. “Have a little think, Darcy. Imagine why I might possibly be pissed off with you.”

I dropped the lock of hair I was twirling and looked at his pants. The bulge gave his attraction to me away. “I’m standing in front of you as opposed to being on my knees with your cock in my mouth?”

He jerked his head around, piercing me with those eyes. “Keep running your mouth, sweet thing. I dare you.”

“Or what? Really, what are you going to do to me in your office, Professor? Give me lines? Make me write an essay on why young ladies should be seen and not heard?”

His jaw ticked, his lips tightening, and he moved toward me so quickly I took a step backward. It was useless, though, like I knew it would be. The grip he had on my wrist was so certain, the tug toward him so strong, that I couldn’t fight him.

My body slammed into his, and no sooner had the air rushed from my body than he pulled the skirt of my dress up. Cold air flitted across my bare backside, but it was replaced almost instantly with one sharp smack.

My pussy clenched, and I bit the inside of my cheek to stop myself whimpering. In pain or pleasure—I had no clue.

“That,” he growled into my ear. “That is what I’ll do if you keep sassing me, Miss Hamilton.

I wondered if he knew how strongly I was considering continuing to sass him just for that purpose. I would do that later—I needed to know what had got him so riled. “Understood,” I said in a softer tone. “What did I do?”

He let go of my dress and slid his hand up my back. His breath was hot against my skin as he sunk his fingers into my hair and turned me around so my back was to him. “Last night,” he replied, his lips close to my ear. “Your little show.”

“That’s my job.”

He tugged on my hair. “Did you ask me?”

“You’re not my boss, Jordan. Neither are you my fucking keeper.”

His grip grew tighter, so much so that my head tilted back. “Darcy. Did. You. Fucking. Ask. Me?”

“No,” I ground out, my jaw clamped tightly.

“Did you think I wouldn’t find out? Did you really fucking think I wouldn’t know that you were spending your night in front of your camera, with your finger rubbing that little clit of yours?” Roughly, he pushed his hand beneath my dress and teased his fingertips along the line of my panties. “Did you think you’d be able to walk into my classroom today and I wouldn’t know that at least one or two of those students hadn’t watched you as you fucked your own fingers?”

“No,” I breathed out, my lips parting as his hand dipped beneath my panties. The tip of one of his fingers ghosted across my clit, and it sent a bolt of pleasure through me.

“I didn’t hear you,” he rasped in my ear, flicking his finger across my clit.

“No,” I repeat, this time more forcefully. “I knew you would. And I didn’t give a shit.” I gasped as he pushed down hard on the sensitive spot.

“We made a deal,” he reminded me, his tone tight with anger… And thick with desire.

“And you won’t let me forget it.”

“Damn straight I won’t.” He pulled his hand from between my legs but kept me in place with his grip on my hair. “Now are you going to renege on it again or are you going to behave yourself?”

“From the man who just had his fingers on a student’s clit?”

“You’re pushing me, Darcy.”

I reached behind me, between us, and cupped his long, hard cock with my hand. The zipper of his pants pushed into my palm, and I traced my thumb down the side of his erection. “I’m not the only thing pushing, am I?”

“Fuck.” He hissed the word out, and the next thing I knew, my dress was being lifted up, and he let go of my hair.

My hands slammed against his desk as he bent me forward and moved my panties to the side. He’d barely touched me, but I could feel my pussy throbbing in anticipation of what was to come.

I knew this would be a cold, hard fuck, designed to remind me who I belonged to. Who, for all intents and purposes, owned my body.

It would be a reminder and a punishment, all because I dared to take control of myself for one night and defy him.

Jordan’s movements were as smooth as always, and he spread one of my ass cheeks with a strong hand. His fingertips dug in almost painfully, but I didn’t care, because I sighed in relief as he pushed his hard, thick cock inside me.

“Now, this is how this is gonna work,” he rasped into my ear as he grasped my hair and tugged. “Since you’ve forgotten, Darcy, you need a reminder, don’t you?”

I didn’t dare answer. The question was rhetorical. Besides, I was already practically panting from his swift invasion of my body.

“Now, I’m gonna fuck you.”

I swallowed and glanced at the shadows of people walking past his office door, a tiny lock and frosted glass providing us limited privacy. I’d known it was coming, sure, but now we were here, silent, and I could hear the people outside…

I couldn’t deny the excitement that swept through my body at the thought we could be interrupted any second. That someone could walk right up to this door and probably see the vague silhouette of him fucking me from behind.

I felt dirty, but I liked it.

“And you got it, Darcy.” He pulled out and slammed right back into me, making me bite down on my lower lip. “I’m gonna fuck you, and you’re not gonna make a sound. Understand?”

I didn’t answer for fear that I’d whimper instead of respond yes. I just nodded and sucked my lower lip into my mouth.

“Good girl.” The words were but a whisper, but they were two I was becoming rapidly acquainted with.

And worse? I liked it when he said it.

He was reminding me of more than he knew… Like what it meant to fuck because lust was just too strong.

He pulled out of me slowly. With the head of his cock resting at the opening to my pussy, he gripped my ass tightly. “Who do you belong to, Darcy?”

I didn’t answer.

The sting didn’t surprise me when it came.

“Answer the question.”

“You,” I whispered.

He gently caressed the spot he just slapped. “And who owns your body, Darcy?” I arched my back as his cock entered me fully. “Who does this tight, wet pussy belong to? Who decides who and what gets to be inside it?”

It… Like it’s a tool… Just a toy for his amusement. Just like I am.

“You.” There was no other option.

“That’s right. You and your wet pussy are mine. I own you, sweet thing. Every single fucking inch of your gorgeous body is mine.”

His words… The possessiveness sent thrills through me as he moved inside me. I couldn’t deny it. I couldn’t deny how fucking turned on they made me, and I hated myself for it. I hated how he commanded my body, and I hated that I let him.

“Now.” He stilled, his hand still resting on my ass, and slowly let go of my hair. The raven curls tumbled over my shoulder and onto the desk, and I felt the loss of him before it happened.

He eased out of me, and ever the gentleman, slipped my panties back over me. Great. Now I’d be walking around all day wanting to screw anyone reasonably good looking.

I pushed myself to standing as soon as I heard him take a step to the side. I looked at him just in time to see him zipping his pants back up and tucking his shirt in. His tie hung a little lopsided, and I raised my eyes from his neck.

Our gazes collided with heart-thumping ferocity. The slow, sexy curve of his lips to one side did nothing to calm the quick two-step beat my heart had just taken up, but I didn’t dare to look away. Even if I did, I don’t think I could have. His eyes were the net, and I was nothing but a tiny fish, tangled up in him.

“Seven o’clock tonight. I’ll be waiting.”

“What for?” I questioned as he walked toward the door without moving his eyes from mine.

He unlocked the door, and the smirk he shot me was dirty. I sighed and grabbed my purse from the chair, then walked toward him. I reached for the handle at the same time he grabbed my chin.

His mouth touched mine, searing onto my lips with its fierceness.

Another reminder.

He pulled away as briskly as he kissed me, but that still didn’t stop me from touching my thumb to my lower lip.

“Remember,” he murmured, opening the door. “Seven. Don’t be late.”

Cocky. Sexy. Charming. Out of my league.

That’s Dash Wallace. A toe-curling, sheet-ripping mistake waiting to happen.

It would be helpful if he’d stop moving with the grace of a hungry cat. Or staring at me with his thumb stroking the stitches of his World Series ball. We’re talking about the game but all I can think about is how much of my body he can cover with those hands. It’s keeping me from concentrating on what his lips are saying.

Which is dirty. All dirty. I have to gird my freaking loins against this guy. I’m determined to know his secrets and he seems determined to get into my pants.

Sleeping with him could ruin everything, and let’s face it, I don’t trust him enough to let him anywhere near me.

Smart. Witty. Direct. Sexy as a fastball low and

inside.

That’s Vivian Foster. A real pistol with legs till Tuesday.

I can’t get around her. She has a way of asking me one thing

and meaning another, which I’d manage fine if I could get my mind off all the

things I want to do to her. On the desk. In bed. With-a-feather-blindfolded-and-her-hands-tied-to-the-headboard kinds of things.

She doesn’t trust me. Just like everyone else, she thinks I gambled against my own team.

She’s wrong, and I’m going to prove it.

About the Author

21

CD Reiss is a USA Today and Amazon bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn’t pick up, she’s at the well, hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master’s degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere, but it did embed TV story structure in her head well enough for her to take a big risk on a TV series structured erotic series called Songs of Submission. It’s about a kinky billionaire hung up on his ex-wife, an ingenue singer with a wisecracking mouth; art, music and sin in the city of Los Angeles.

Critics have dubbed the books “poetic,” “literary,” and “hauntingly atmospheric,” which is flattering enough for her to put it in a bio, but embarrassing enough for her not to tell her husband, or he might think she’s some sort of braggart who’s too good to give the toilets a once-over every couple of weeks or chop a cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

A faceless name. That’s all she was when I agreed to play a part in deceiving her. But then the unplanned happened.

We met. And all I wanted from her was a dirty weekend . . . until that wasn’t enough and I longed for so much more.

Lawrence Thorn suddenly means the world to me. And that’s a problem. She’s my business partner’s sister. Forbidden fruit. Pursuing her can mean trouble for me at Lovibond Brewery. But I don’t care.

I yearn for her skin against mine.

I crave her smell on my body.

I want to make her laugh and then hear her moan my name.

And she does for a brief moment in time.

But Lawrence wants more than I’m able to give. And it’s a damn shame because there’s no one on earth I want more than her.

An epic love.

A miserable ending.

Unless it’s not.

When she’s not writing, she’s thinking about writing. When she’s being domestic, she’s listening to her iPod and visualizing scenes for her current work in progress. Every story coming from her always has a song to inspire it.
