Synopsis
When twenty-four-year-old Felicity Harper is dragged to a sugar party, an event where wealthy men and women seek “companionship,” she never expects this one simple decision to drastically change her whole life.
Her past is nothing but broken dreams and heartache. Her present is detached and dull. And her future? Well, before meeting Theodore Darcy, the famed film director, writer, producer and CEO of Darcy Entertainment, she would have expected more of the same. Love is just a fantasy and she wants no part of it—even if she can’t deny the undeniable attraction between the two of them.
So their arrangement is simple: sex with no strings attached.
But as their intimacy becomes more powerful, so do Felicity’s demons. Can Theo really shoulder her past and his own? And could Felicity even let him?
Review
“I’m going to regret this.”
Twenty-four year old Felicity Harper, a hardworking young woman used to paying her own way, is duped into attending her first ever Sugar Baby party with her roommates, cousins Cleo and Mark. Cleo and Mark are confirmed Sugar Babies, meaning they have sexual relationships with wealthy people and in exchange these wealthy people “take care” of them by paying their bills or giving them expensive gifts. Felicity makes no judgments on Cleo and Mark’s lifestyle, but she’s not so sure it’s for her. In the midst of a bit of a dry spell, she is, however, curious about all the wild sex her roommates are having…
“I had died, and he was my own personal angel, fucking me right into heaven.”
For a second, Felicity thinks it might be fun to explore her wild side, but with the reality of the party happening around her, she decides that it’s just not for her. She disappears into the house where the party is being held and stumbles into a room housing a beautiful piano. She begins to play, and unbeknownst to her, she has a private audience. Felicity and Theodore Darcy meet for the first time.
“Theodore Darcy is nothing. I’m everything.”
Billionaire Theo Darcy is a renowned film director, writer and producer, and the CEO of famed Hollywood heavyweight entertainment conglomerate, Darcy Entertainment. It is his home that the party is being held in, although it is his brother, Arty, who is the host. Theo is not pleased about the party, he doesn’t the reason why Felicity is there, but he cannot help but be drawn to her, and he’s positively captivated by her natural musical abilities. He propositions her, and while Felicity is absolutely attracted to Theo – who wouldn’t be with his tousled black hair and piercing green eyes –she is not about to become his Sugar Baby, and she turns him. Her rejection only spurs Theo on, and he begins his pursuit of her.
“Why do I have a feeling you’re going to be the one to walk away from me first?”
Theo proposes not only a physical relationship to Felicity, but also a professional one as he discovers that her talents are not only limited to music, but she is also obviously a trained dancer. Felicity succumbs to Theo’s pursuit, and the sex between them is scorching, the attraction is undeniable, and, even more concerning to Felicity, she finds she enjoys Theo’s company and spending time with him. She is clear, however, about this being a short-term situation and lays out her terms: no calls on Sundays, no other lovers and she will not be his employee nor will she be on his payroll. Theo readily accepts her terms, and their ‘relationship’ as it were begins.
“I didn’t get her at all. She liked me. I liked her. What the hell were we doing?”
Their relationship was fraught with complications courtesy of Felicity. For Theo, it was all very straightforward. They belonged together and he was going to prove it to her. But what seemed to be wasn’t what actually was, and Theo would soon learn, as would Felicity, what her true issues were.
“This is me, scars and all.”
I went into this book, after only reading the blurb, expecting a straightforward billionaire/ broken girl romance. I could not have been more wrong. I don’t dare say another word, because truly, this book needs to be read without any idea or preconception to get the full experience. That is what I did, and let me tell you, I was absolutely floored.
This book was bursting with some serious WTH moments. It was well written, it was sexy, and it did something for me that just frankly doesn’t happen often – it took me totally by surprise. This one gets 4.5 Beautiful Baby Smooches from me!

Book TWO in a three part dark suspense and contemporary romance series. Be warned: IT HAS A CLIFFHANGER ENDING!

Trista
Within the last few weeks I’ve been stalked, almost raped, witnessed a murder, and found out I am working with the FBI. All because of that slutty tramp, Marvy. Mind you, I did have my first sexual experience with a smoking hot guy, so there’s that…but I still hate her.
Marvy
That wimpy cry-baby blames me for everything which is total joke! If it were up to me, I wouldn’t have gone back to the club without a gun. Now I’m stuck with that jerk-off, Bryson, hiding from people that want to see me dead.
Trista
I’m supposed to be getting the dirt on Bryson, but truth of the matter is, I think I’m falling for the scumbag. He did kill someone to protect me, but he’s the reason he had to. Sigh. I don’t know what to think a
bout him. He doesn’t know about my secrets. Or maybe he does.
The only man I can trust is Alex. But he doesn’t know where I am thanks to Bryson. I love them both in ways that are completely different—kind of like my alters.
Valeria
Wat a friggin’ mess! Dez two are idjits!

Exclusive Interview With Emma Chase
-
As a mom did any of the antics with kids come from personal experience with your children?
Yes. Pretty much all of them in some shape or form. Even though some of the scenes that played out in the book weren’t from actual experiences with my own kids, they were still inspired by the feelings – the love, the laughter, the frustration, the joy – from real life events.
-
How do you balance time to read with writing and being a mom?
It’s still a work in progress. Some days I’m able to hit my word count early then put the laptop away – and I feel very accomplished and organized on those days. But there are just as many when I’m writing in between time with the kids – get them fed and off to school, then write, talk and hang out with them when they get home, then write, help them with homework and have dinner, then write…
It’s not an exact science, but I’m very lucky that my kids are old enough to understand when I have to work. And they think my being an author is pretty cool – so that helps too.
-
How much research did you have to do for writing lawyers? Was it easier or more difficult than previous books?
More research definitely went into this series than the Tangled Series. In Tangled, once I understood what investment banking was and Drew laid that out for the reader, there wasn’t much research needed afterwards.
But in the Legal Briefs Series – particularly in Sustained and Appealed – some of the action takes place in court and revolves around their positions as attorneys. The way I handled it was I wrote the scenes as I thought they would be in real life and then I fact checked and revised to make it accurate. I was also lucky to be able to email with an actual attorney who practices in Washington DC – his guidance was invaluable.
-
What has been your favorite male character to write up until now?
Up until this point, Drew Evans was my end-all be-all – because there’s isn’t anything he won’t say or think. He has no boundaries and that’s incredibly fun to write.
But…
Jake Becker is now firmly tied with Drew (maaaybe even edged ahead of him) as my favorite. I love Jake’s sense of humor – dry, scathing, hilarious – and he has this natural nurturing instinct that he doesn’t even realize. There’s a depth to him that’s really fascinating – he’s this tough-guy protector, but still so gentle with Chelsea and the kids when needed. Jake has the capacity to love passionately and deeply, he’s loyal and caring – such an easy character to fall in love with and is so very interesting to write.
-
What are 3 fun facts about you?
When I read a book I read the last page first.
I grew up in the same hometown as Jon Bon Jovi.
I randomly break into song around the house (my singing voice is bad) and my darling daughter has sworn that one day she’s going to tape me and upload it to Snapchat.

Review
OK. I loved Tangled by Emma Chase and yes I loved the rest of the books in that series and I have loved the first book in this series but none of them compared to my extreme love for Tangled, until now. Because I just adored Sustained! I mean seriously fell in love with the characters laughed my butt off cried my eyes out adored this book!
Oh Jake, you are so very Drew like and you had me hooked from the very first page. Sustained is told from Jakes POV and yes, the name Jake the snake came to mind because he is kind of a dirty low down playboy and a touch ,well, just mean.
“Sorry, Cinderella, but the clock struck twelve. The coach has turned back into a pumpkin and it’s time to collect your glass slipper. I never pretended to be Prince Charming.”
OH, Jake. Sigh. He is a one and done kind of guy usually with a different woman most nights until he gets some very very bad possible news.
“Syphilis.”
So, right when he is having to take a breaky break from the wham bam, thank you mam, he meets an adorable family of misfits; six little ones ranging from teen to baby all being taken care of by their young mid twenties aunt. These adorable children won me over immediately and I just fell in love with them. And it wasn’t long before Jake was right there with me, despite his trying to stay away.
“But Rosaleen. . . her baby-blue gaze warms me down to the marrow of my bones. Because it’s thankful and adoring and brimming with hero worship.”
Oh, this book had all the damn feels. I was dying laughing one moment and crying my eyes out the next. As a mother I understood the loss and love this family experienced and it touched my heart so much. And Jake stepping up to help, well he went from zero to hero for me in just a couple of chapters. Goodness, let us talk about Chelsea (the aunt caregiver of these amazing and troubled children). She was just so good and giving and caring. Her character was amazing and the sexual chemistry between her and Jake is immediate. But there is quite a slow burn and the sexual tension was just SO good.
“Do you want me?”
“All the time. I can’t remember not wanting you anymore.”
This is definitely one of my favorites of Emma’s. The writing is top notch and the characters were heart warming. I laughed, I cried, and I hoped for this family to overcome life’s tragedies. But Jake stole the show of course. There is nothing like seeing a playboy fall. They always fall so hard.
She give me love, love, love, crazy love…

WHAT IN THE EVER LOVING HELL DID I JUST FINISH READING? WHERE IN THE HECK DID THAT ENDING COME FROM? I am seriously shocked and traumatized. I am really upset and feel like a fool because I didn’t see that coming a mile away. I am even kind of mad at Tabatha Vargo. Why did you trick me and then hurt me so?
So I enjoyed this book a lot. I mean it was seriously taboo and I totally dig that. The whole prison nurse falling for the prisoner who happens to be the baddest of the bad was really intriguing. The story was written really well and I seriously enjoyed Tabatha’s writing in the male point of view. The plot kept moving pretty quickly and the sexy times were really sensual and exciiting because of the whole potentional to get caught thing these two had going on. And well, X happened to a fabulous dirty talker.
“I’m going to eat you like you’re my last meal,”
All of that made for a great book. I wish that the book had a little more dialogue but I am dialogue lover so not everyone will be bothered by the lack of. I was totally on board with this book until the end. And then the end got worse in the epilogue. I mean, it was fitting, but still. I am crushed. Still a great book but be prepared for that ending because I was like what?!!!
‘Monsters were real, too. They didn’t live in our closets or hide under out beds. They squatted within us – coming out occasionally to destroy the things we loved – coming out to destroy us.’
