Cocky Bastard by Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward Review
4.5 Smooches
Synopsis
From New York Times Bestselling authors Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward, comes a sexy new standalone novel.
He was someone who belonged in my wildest fantasies instead of a rest stop in the middle of Nebraska.
A sexy, cocky, Australian named Chance was the last person I expected to run into on my cross-country drive.
When my car broke down, we made a deal. Next thing I knew, we were traveling together, spending sexually-tense nights in hotels and taking unplanned detours.
My ordinary road trip turned into the adventure of a lifetime. It was all fun and games until things got intense.
I wanted him, but Chance wouldn’t make a move. I thought he wanted me too, but something was holding him back.
I wasn’t supposed to fall for the cocky bastard, especially when I knew we’d be going our separate ways.
All good things must come to an end, right?
Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.
Review
“Cocky Bastard had manners to go with his arrogance.”
Cocky Bastard was so much more than a fun ride with a hot guy. Filled with quick one-liners, sexual tension, big surprises and an angst filled story, Cocky Bastard delivered on the promise to be un-put-downable!
“I see through you. The harder you try to be good, the more you’re starving to be bad.”
Chance and Aubrey meet on a road trip and when his motorcycle breaks down and she needs help they end of riding together to California. It is clear that Chance need to get to CA by a certain date but along the way the arrogant and reckless Chance helps uptight Aubrey open up and see that there is more to life than following a set plan. But nothing is ever as it seems and as they go from fighting to friends to an undeniable attraction my love for these two only increased as they grew closer!
“Attraction is way too tame for what happens when I look at you. I want to fucking conquer you. Watch your beautiful face as I sink deep inside of you so hard it borders on pain.”
The sexual tension and witty banter had me from the start but then I got to the 50% and there was absolutely no way I would be getting anything accomplished in real life until this book was finished. I was not expecting it to go where it went and I was so excited and surprised. Chance, the sexy bad boy Australian and Aubrey the woman who desperately wants to be free from the life shes been groomed for make a dynamic duo along with a goat and plenty of hijinks and feels!
“She was my woman. Whether or not I was her man was the question that remained.”
Making a book extremely funny while delivering on a story that provokes emotion and has me on the edge of my seat is a near impossible task that Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland did seamlessly! While the cover is hot and grabs you in no way can you tell the entirety of feelings you will go through while reading this story. I highly recommend it!

Remember. Everything.
Only now I wish I didn’t.
When the fog is sucked away from my mind like smoke through a vacuum, the truth that has been beyond my reach for months finally reveals itself.
But the relief I thought I would feel never comes, and I’m more afraid now than I was the morning I woke up handcuffed in King’s bed.
Because with the truth comes dark secrets I was never meant to know.
I will put the lives of those I love most at risk if I let on that my memory has returned, or if I seek help from the heavily tattooed felon who owns me body and soul.
I don’t know if I’m strong enough to resist the magnetic pull toward King that grows stronger every day.
He’s already saved me in more ways than one. Now it’s my turn to do whatever it takes to save him.
Even if that means marrying someone else…
Excerpt
He cupped my ass and lifted me up, wrapping my legs around his waist. “There was one point I’d made the decision to tell you the truth. I owed you that much. But then all the shit went down with Isaac and Preppy, so when I made the deal with your father for Max, I thought I was doing you a favor by giving you your life back and getting you out of all the shit that came with being in mine.”
I squeezed my thighs around his waist, rubbing myself against his hardness. I moaned. “But you weren’t giving me my life back.” I corrected. I placed my palms on his cheeks and held his face in my hands, searching for any sign in his eyes that what I felt for him might have been wrong, but instead what I found was a resounding need to fix what was broken between us. Tears formed in my eyes. “You were taking it away.” King’s lips parted. He ran his thumb across my lower lip, turning his head he kissed his way up my arm.
“Goosebumps,” King observed, running his fingertips across my already stimulated skin. I bit my lip and stifled a moan.
“It’s just the heat,” I lied.
“You’ve got that fucking right,” King growled, bending my wrist behind my back, his lips came crashing down over mine. We were a tangling of lips, clanking of teeth, sloshing through the water to better line ourselves up with each other. It wasn’t pretty.
It was need.
“I’m still fucking mad at you for letting me go,” I said into his mouth, while our tongues did things other parts of me throbbed to do.
King stilled and held my face away from his, our chests heaving in unison, my erect nipples rubbing against his hot hard skin as we panted together. Our breaths mingled in the air. He ran his hand down the side of my face and cupped my cheek in his palm. “I didn’t give you away, Pup. I released you.”
I stilled. “You released me?” I couldn’t hide the hurt in my voice. For some reason, releasing me sounded worse than letting me go.
King ran his tongue across the tip of my earlobe, holding me tightly against his warmth. Chills ran down my spine and into my very core and they had nothing to do with the temperature of the rain.
“I tried to release you, Pup. For Max. But there was a major problem with that plan, and no matter what happened, it would never have worked,” King confessed.
“Why is that?” I asked, needing to know, but at the same time acutely aware of the pulsing between my legs. Relief and release was only a scrap or two of fabric away. Throbbing for me.
“The problem was…you never released me,” King growled, crashing his lips to mine. He moaned into my mouth when I rubbed myself up against his straining erection. He pushed the fabric of my shorts aside and the second he parted my folds with his index finger, I shuddered. He plunged a long index finger inside of me, and for a second my eyes rolled back in my head until he withdrew it. I cried out in frustration, wiggling myself against him, needing him to make me feel anything other than empty.

Fighting Dirty
About TOUGH LOVE:
She’s playing hard to get…to win the MMA fighter of her ultimate fantasies in a sultry new novel from New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster
Vanity Baker loves a good, clean match, but she’s not above playing a little dirty. She’s wanted Stack “The Wolf” Hannigan from day one. Seems as though the best way to corral the famously commitment-phobic fighter is to insist on keeping it casual. And her plan works—deliciously well—until Stack’s past steps out of the shadows.
Stack learned early to stay free of attachments. But with sexy, forthright Vanity, he’s the one always left wanting more. Then his troublemaking family comes back into the picture, threatening everything Stack cares about—Vanity included. Suddenly he realizes they’re much more than friends with benefits. He’s ready to go to the mat for her…but will it be in time to protect the woman who’s tamed him for good?

She softened. Harking back to the idiotic joke about him being a wolf and how ladies reacted, she said, “At least I didn’t howl, right?”
Mocking her, he said, “Little bit.”
She laughed. “Well, I wouldn’t want to ruin your rep.” Now decently covered, she sat on the bed beside him and pulled on socks. “So what’s happening? A street light go out? Lady’s cat stuck in a tree? Somebody have a flat tire?”
“No, smart-ass.” Is that really what she thought they did? If so, he wouldn’t correct her. Soon enough she’d find out that, with Cannon’s leadership, they’d become watchdogs for the neighborhood. Together they’d run off drug dealers, stopped extortion, helped family-run businesses stay open, and secured the safety of the young and the elderly. Being honest, Stack told her, “But if that happened, we’d help if we could.”
“Of course you would.” She looked beneath the bed, found ankle boots and, sitting on the floor, pulled them on. “So what’s going on then?”
He eyed the boots with curiosity. Why the hell was she getting dressed? “My mom collapsed.”
Her face fell. “Oh, God, Stack.” Scrambling back to her feet, she said, “I’m so sorry!”
She looked sincerely, deeply sorry. Huh. They hadn’t yet slept together, she’d never met his mom, but she cared all the same. “My sister called while we were in the shower. When she couldn’t reach me, she called Armie.”
“She knows him?”
“They’ve met. In case of an emergency she has his number along with a few others.”
Her small hand covered her mouth. “So this is an emergency?”
“Hard to say.” He stood and buttoned up his tux shirt, leaving it untucked. “Tabby’s all into drama, so if Mom stubbed her toe, she’d be as likely to call it life and death.”
Gasping, Vanity whispered, “Life and death? That was her message?”
He had to grin at her horrified expression. “No, she just told Armie that Mom collapsed. I’ll call her on my way out to find out the details.”
Nodding, Vanity rushed to her closet and withdrew a dark poncho. She snagged his hand and started out of the room. “Come on.”
When Stack didn’t budge, she pulled up short.
They stared at each other.
“Why are you waiting? You need to make that call!”
Stack nodded. “Where do you think you’re going?”
“With you.”
She said that so matter-of-factly that he frowned in suspicion. “Why would you—”
Exasperated, she hooked her arm through his and tried to get him moving. “You haven’t yet met your obligations. Until you do, I’m not giving you a chance to back out.”
“Believe me, I’ll be back as soon as possible.” He allowed her to drag him to the front door. This time, knowing sex wasn’t on the agenda, he looked around with more interest.
“I’m going with you.”
“Not to a hospital to meet my family.”
“Yes.”
Giving up his perusal of her interesting artwork, he turned to her. The innocence in her face amped up his suspicions even more. “That makes zero sense, darlin’, and you know it.”

Four caskets. Two bodies.
Jessica and Jude Day witness their funeral and that of their parents a few yards away from mourning family and friends. Stripped of the only life they’ve ever known, the Days say goodbye to San Francisco forever.
Four months later, two thirty-year-old misfits with elite self-defense skills and penchants for alcohol, sex, and trouble arrive like an earthquake to Peaceful Woods, a retirement community in Omaha, Nebraska, that thrives on rules and gossip. Welcome home, Jackson and Jillian Knight.
Jackson celebrates his new beginning by embracing his job and wiping his cavalier past clean with a temporary oath of celibacy. But Jillian’s past is branded into her soul—the deaths, the insanity, Dr. Luke Jones, and the need to make her lovers bleed. “Have you ever killed anyone?”
Jessica’s smile slipped. “If I told you then I’d have to kill you.”
“So you’re a secret agent?”
She flipped onto her stomach, resting her chin on her crossed arms. “If I said yes then it would no longer be a secret. Come on, Jones, you’re losing your focus. Don’t let me feel smarter than you or our time together will be over and I rather like hanging out here.”
“Luke,” he corrected.
“Lucas.”
“Luke.”
“Lukey.”
“LUKE!”
“Lulu.”
“I mean it!” Luke showed another rare moment of teetering emotion.
Jessica chuckled. “What are the chances of us having sex? I’ve never done it missionary, but you could possibly counsel me through it.”
He refocused on his crossword puzzle, filling in a word in pen. “Less than zero percent.”
“So, not in my favor, eh?
“Why not missionary?”
Jessica smiled in delight that Luke continued with the topic of conversation. “I’m sure you already know, but if you want me to say I need control, then sure, I need control. But the truth is I’d control any sex position you want to put me in.” Jessica winked as Luke gave her a fleeting glance. “I just don’t want you thinking you have control, even if I know it’s not the case. Pisses me off to see the smirk on a guy’s face when he thinks he has control.”
“Tell me why you need control.” Luke continued with his crossword.
“In bed?”
“Yes.”
“Someone has to have it.”
“Why?”
“Because someone initiates it.”
“So if I initiate sex with you will I have control?”
“There’s only one way to find out.” Jessica wiggled her eyebrows at an ill-humored Luke.

Review
What in the ever loving hell did I just read? Why did I love it so incredibly much? Why haven’t I read this author before? I mean I have a couple of her books just sitting on my kindle waiting to be read and I just have not gotten around to it yet. When this arc request came in, I snatched it up because the premise of this book really intrigued me, but End of Day was so much more than I expected. It was well…EVERYTHING.
“Because everybody needs somebody.”
I say it was everything because it was. I will try to explain this without giving too much away, but this book told two stories simultaneously. You get Jillian Knight’s story in the present with grumpy and troubled military serviceman AJ or Sarge but you also get Jessica Day’s story with romantic and brutally sweet Dr. Luke Jones.
“I’m so … very … one-hundred percent … madly in love with you.”
Jessica and Jillian are the same person but Jessica is the past and Jillian is the present. God, I do not know how to describe how much I loved this book. I adored AJ but I wanted to hug Luke two. This isn’t a love triangle but it was almost worse because both of these men captured my heart in different ways. So this book is everything because you get 2 love stories, not just one. Two completely different but both unconventional romances. It was a little dark but a little light too. You get SO MUCH mystery. You get a ridiculous amount of laughs. AND ALL THE FEELS YOU COULD EVER WANT. See, EVERYTHING!
The heart never forgets skipping a beat.
A couple of warnings. This book is told in third person. I will be honest, third person can sometimes go really wrong for me but the writing is really spectacular and I hardly noticed I wasn’t reading in first person. Also, this is a book that you have read very very closely. There is a lot happening in both story lines (the past and the present) so make sure to pay attention or you will be completely lost. So, basically, if you are looking for an easy beach read, this is not the book for you. One more thing that may displease some folks is the HUGE EPIC cliff hanger at the end of this book. Nothing gets resolved. There are a shit ton more questions and the last couple of sentences of this book literally took my breath away and left me hanging. I love that kinda thing so I am so excited for the next book. So after that bit of warning, I will say that all of those things are everything that made this book brilliant. This book made me want to go and read everything this author has ever written. MIND. BLOWN. I will leave you with a little quote from End of Day that pretty much described what this book did to me.
“I’m going to take you the way you took me – by surprise, relentlessly … completely.”

EXCERPT:
I’m blending a pair of frozen daiquiris with one hand and shaking a martini with the other when out of the corner of my eye, I see a solo blonde slide onto the barstool at the end, near the beer taps. I finish what I’m doing and prepare the tray for Carol to pick up before glancing over and seeing its Destiny.
A guy in the middle of the bar makes eye contact and nods at his empty beer mug. I grab it and start filling without really looking up at her. “Didn’t think I’d see you again till closer to closing.”
“Sorry?” she says. “Are you talking to me?”
The voice is off—slightly raspy and a pitch lower than her usual. I look up again and squint at her, wondering if she’s already started drinking. She’s taken her straight hair down from the ponytail she always wears it in and it’s not as long as I remember it from the other night—the only other time I’ve seen it down. There’s also a fading blue stripe cutting through the platinum over her right ear that I’ve never noticed before.
“What can I get you?” I ask her instead of pushing it.
I’m already reaching for the vodka and cranberry to start on a Madras, her drink of choice last week, when she answers, “Rum and Coke.”
“That’s different,” I mutter, shooting her another glance.
She gives me a puzzled look. “Look, I really just wanted to find out if you hire entertainment.”
My face mirrors her puzzlement, I’m sure, as I try to process her statement. “Why?”
She hunches to the side and pulls something up from her feet. I see it’s a battered black guitar case when the narrow end peeks over the top of the bar. “Because I need a gig.”
“Didn’t know you played,” I say, pushing her drink across the bar to her.
That baffled look is back as she pulls it toward her and takes a swallow. I can’t help following the curve of her long neck downward toward a pair of large round tits perfectly outlined by her snug, low-cut T-shirt. She is definitely hot, and if we’re on the same page, then I’ve got nothing to feel guilty about. She wants me to fuck her till she screams? I’m perfectly capable of that. She sets her drink down and catches me staring. She cuts me that wicked smile again, causing my cock to stir. I return the smile, sending the innuendo right back at her.
She props her elbows onto the bar and leans forward, giving me a clear look down her shirt. “Considering that we’ve never met before, I don’t find that surprising.”
I’m so absorbed in images of my face buried in those magnificent tits that it takes me a second to process what she said.
My eyes snap to hers. “Wait…what?”
She reaches across the bar, offering me a hand. “Lilah.”
There’s a full second all I can do is stare, wondering if this is one of those split personality things you hear about sometimes. And in that second, through the dim lighting, I take in all the tiny details—a dark mole at the outer corner of her right eye; her eyes, silver instead of blue; the missing white crescent-shaped scar above Destiny’s right eyebrow; and lips, a little fuller than I remember—which are smirking at me now.
“You’re not Destiny,” I say as it all clicks.
It’s not a question, but she shakes her head. “No. I am most definitely not Destiny.”
“Twins?” I ask.
She cocks her head playfully. “What do you think?”
“You’ve got to be. You’re fucking identical except for the eyes.” I tap my forehead. “And you’re missing a scar.”
Her perfect blond eyebrow raises in amusement. “She’s the pretty one and I’m the smart one.”
I bark out a laugh as I reach across and shake her hand. “Bran Silo. Good to meet you.”
She doesn’t let go of my hand for a second after we’re done shaking—just long enough to send a clear message that she’s interested.
A knot forms in my gut, and I realize it’s guilt. Destiny and I have an understanding, but regardless, I’m pretty sure fucking her sister would be way outside the bounds of gentlemanly behavior. Not that anyone would ever mistake me for a gentleman. “Destiny never mentioned she had a sister.”
“Doesn’t surprise me.” She takes another drink, nearly polishing it off in a few big gulps.
I tip my head at it her glass. “Another?”
“My limit is one,” she says, pushing her glass toward me. “Just Coke this time, thanks.”
Carol sweeps by on her way to the kitchen, dropping an order on my bar. “Thought you left,” she says to Lilah without slowing down. “Careful or your favorite customer might ask for you,” she adds, jerking her head at Mr. Hendricks as she disappears through the swinging door.
I bark out a laugh as I scoop ice into Lilah’s glass and fill it with Coke. “Good to know I’m not the only one.”
Lilah shrugs. “Happens all the time.” She slides out of her chair, lifting the guitar case. “So do you want to hear me play or what?”
I look around the crowded room, loud with chatter, drowning out the background music. “We don’t generally have live entertainment,” I say, which is really an understatement. We’ve never had live entertainment. But for some reason, I’m not willing to shut Lilah down so fast.
When my eyes find her again, annoyed impatience shines loud and clear out of her gaze. “So that’s a no?”
I feel my mouth pull into a cocky half-smile. “I didn’t say that.”
She opens her case and pulls out her guitar, unabashedly climbing through the window I left ajar for her. I watch as she sets herself up on the stool and rests the guitar in her lap, gripping it softly but confidently. She starts strumming, and I expect her to be discrete, since this is basically an audition, but there’s not a shred of self-consciousness or embarrassment anywhere in her disposition as she begins to belt out lyrics—an old No Doubt song that I can’t remember the name of.
The way she plays, as if on instinct; the passion in her voice, and the fact that she’s really fucking good, starts to turn heads at the tables closest to us. As they quiet and listen, more tables still, and soon the only thing she’s competing to be heard over is the Kat Country on the speakers. But she doesn’t decrease her volume. If anything, as eyes find her, she becomes louder, feeding off the attention.
I reach under the bar and click off the stereo, then lean onto the back counter and cross my arms, listening as she finishes one song and launches into the next.
A guy at the bar pulls a five from his pocket and flags me down with it. I grab his beer mug, but he shakes his head. “Is there a tip jar?” he asks with a nod toward Lilah.
I pull a fresh mug from under the bar and he slips the five inside, then I set it at the end of the bar near Lilah. She cuts me a smile and her eyes slide down my body as she sings.
And fuck me. I lean my hands on the bar and press against the lower counter when my dick won’t yield to my will. Without a doubt, everything Destiny has going on, Lilah’s got that and more.

Insignificant by Kelly Lincoln Review
5 Smooches!
Synopsis
When Taylor was four years old, she became an orphan and her childhood spiraled into darkness. She spent years lying, hiding, and avoiding any love offered to her until she was old enough to run away from all the threats of her past.
Now twenty-two, Taylor doesn’t think she’s worth more than being the kind of girl a guy hooks up with in the back room of a bar after her band plays. She definitely isn’t the one you bring home to meet Mom and Dad.
An unlikely rescue puts her in Ethan’s sight. He’s her total opposite, though. Ethan is a sexy dork who sees beyond Taylor’s guarded exterior. He sees past the tattoos and piercings. He sees her.
But they both have secrets capable of destroying their relationship. And if Taylor’s past ever catches up with her, the consequences could be deadly.
Due to explicit language, sexual content, and dark themes, reader discretion is advised.
Review
Taylor is running away from something in her past but she’s finally settled down somewhere she actually likes. She has friends, is in a band and then Ethan comes along and she has the job as well. But Ethan isn’t just someone who got her a job, he’s someone Taylor could really fall for. But will she risk not only his life but her friends as well, by becoming too attached?
What a thrilling, exciting and unexpected roller coaster of a book that has been one of my favourite reads this year! We have so many twists, so many brilliant characters, romance and drama, with a thrilling plot line that seriously will keep you guessing the whole way through.
“I wasn’t the kind of girl who guys fell in love with. I was the one they fucked in the back room at a bar, or called in the middle of the night when they were drunk and horny. Nothing more. I just had to deal with it.”
Taylor was an amazing character. Her strength, courage and selflessness are so easily admirable. The way she continues to laugh about life and care for her friends means you not only want her to be happy but you wish you could be friends with as well.
“He was eye fucking me. I did it sometimes when I was on stage as an I see you and only you right now kind of thing. But this was more than that. He wasn’t just looking; he was penetrating. There was an energy pouring from him and flowing into my soul, pumping into my heart.”
Ethan was one of my favourite book boyfriends ever!! He is so sexy but cute. I loved his shyness and how he still made it sexy and mysterious. He was still protective and strong at the same time as well which all added up to the one of the best book boyfriends I have ever read about.
“He laced our fingers together as his lips brushed against mine, soft and gentle. No tongue or anything. The kiss was pure Ethan—a little shy and a fuckload sexy.”
The plot was absolutely fascinating. Completely unexpected, you have no idea where it’s going, whether you are reading a romance, a suspense, a thriller; it really keeps you guessing. I laughed, I cried, I was kept on the edge of my seat gasping and yelling at my kindle; never knowing which way the story was going to go.
“All of these years, I felt so cheap because I was never more than someone to fuck, and the very second someone made me feel like I was worth something, I had to fucking blow it. That was me. Ruining everything. On purpose or not, it didn’t matter.”
A really fantastic read that I couldn’t put down and would recommend to readers of nearly all genres. Pick this one up today and I promise you won’t regret it.
“I love you. I love you for showing me how beautiful the world is, for letting me in and showing me how beautiful you are, for making me feel like I am special because of the way you look at me.”
Get ready for one hell of a ride!
