Chapter One

I wondered if the vibration would feel good between my legs.

The sun caught the chrome of a Harley Davidson parked a few spots over, gleaming in the sweltering midday sun.  I waited until Maroon Five finished playing on the radio, oddly fixated on the two-wheeled-man-toy as I fished in my purse for my cell phone.  The motorcycle was simple—high gloss black and shiny silver, worn leather saddlebags with a skull embossed below the initials C.B.

How good would it feel to ride?  Wind blowing through my long hair, arms wrapped around a man with a tough sounding nickname, engine purring beneath my jean clad thighs.  Horse?  Drifter?  Guns?  Wait.  No.  Pres.  My imaginary biker was most definitely called Pres.  And he’d look just like Charlie Hunnam.

I glanced down at my iPhone and found a half dozen new messages from Harrison.  Inwardly, I smirked.  Certainly, there is no one named Harrison that ever rode a Harley. Tossing my phone back in my bag, I cut the engine of my packed BMW and glanced behind me into the backseat.  Boxes piled to the ceiling were beginning to make my full-size car feel claustrophobic.

A bus full of travelers pulled into the rest stop. Great. I’d better go in now and get my lunch, otherwise I’d never get out of here. Ten hours into a cross-country trip from Chicago to Temecula, California, I was somewhere in the middle of Nebraska with about another twenty some odd hours to go.

After a fifteen-minute wait inside for Pepsi and Popeyes fried chicken bites that I planned to eat back in the car, I stopped into the small souvenir shop.  I was so tired and didn’t really feel like driving the additional five hours I had to go before finding a place to sleep for the night. Yawning, I decided to stall and browse for a few minutes.  Checking out some trinkets, I eventually picked up a Barack Obama bobblehead and shook it mindlessly, watching its maniacal smile as the head bounced up and down.

“Get it. You know you want it,” a deep, raspy voice said from behind my shoulders. Startling me, it caused a knee-jerk reaction that resulted in the bobblehead slipping from my fingers and falling to the ground. The head broke off of the spring neck and rolled away.

The woman at the register shouted, “I’m sorry, ma’am. You’ll have to pay for that. Twenty dollars.”

“Damn it!” I spewed, following the path of the rolling head. As I bent down to pick it up, there was the voice again from behind me.

“And to think, some people say he’s got a good head on his shoulders.” He seemed to have an Australian accent.

“You think this is funny, asshole?” I asked before turning around and getting my first look at the man behind the voice.

I froze.

Oh. Shit.

“You don’t need to be a fucking bitch about it.” His mouth curved into a wicked grin as he handed me the bottom half of Obama. “And for the record, I did think that was really funny, yes.”

I swallowed and seemed to lose my ability to speak as I took in the Adonis standing before me. I wanted to smack that cocky smile right off his face, though—his gorgeous, chiseled, scruffy face, framed by a thick head of copper-brown hair. Fuck me. This man was insanely hot, not someone I expected to come across out here. This was the middle of nowhere USA, not the Australian outback for Christ’s sake.

I cleared my throat. “Well, I didn’t think it was funny at all.”

“Then, you need to take the stick out of your arse and lighten up.” He reached out his hand. “Give it to me, Princess. I’ll pay for the damn thing.” Before I could respond, he grabbed the two broken pieces from me, and I cursed at the shiver that ran down my spine from the brief contact of his hand brushing against mine. Of course, he had to smell amazing on top of it all.

I followed him to the register as I fished through my messy purse for money, but he was too quick and had paid for it already.

He handed me a plastic bag containing the broken bobblehead. “There’s some change in the bag. Buy yourself a sense of humor.”

HUE-MA. That accent.

My jaw dropped as he walked away and out of the store.

What an ass.

It was. A fine one. A thick, juicy, round ass hugged tightly by his jeans. God, I really needed to get laid, because it didn’t seem to matter that this guy had just insulted me to my face; my panties were practically wet.

After several minutes of staring into space at a shelf of Nebraska Cornhuskers t-shirts, I gave myself a mental kick in the butt. My reaction to the incident proved that fatigue had gotten the best of me; I wasn’t usually that short-tempered. It was time to shake off the bizarre encounter and get moving. My stomach was growling, and I was looking forward to breaking into the fried chicken once I hit the road. I snuck a piece out of the box in my bag as I walked out of the building. My chewing ceased when I noticed him two spots down from my car—sitting on the very motorcycle I’d been fantasizing about earlier.

Approaching slowly, I hoped he didn’t notice me. No such luck. Instead, when he spotted me, he flashed an exaggerated smile and waved.

Frantically searching for my keys, I rolled my eyes and muttered, “You again.”

He snickered. “Did you end up buying a sense of humor?”

“I used the change to buy you some couth instead.”

Chuckling, he shook his head at me.  Running his hand through his hair, he put his shiny black helmet on and cranked the Harley. The rumble shook me to my core.

Getting in the car and slamming the door, I couldn’t help taking one last look over at him, seeing as though I’d never see this guy again in my lifetime. He winked through the helmet, and my pathetic heart fluttered.

I watched through the rear view mirror as he backed out of the spot. I expected him to take off like a bat out of hell, but after moving away slowly, he abruptly stopped. He kept trying to rev the bike to get it to move, but nothing was happening. Eventually turning off the engine, he removed his helmet and ran his hand through his hair in frustration before getting off to inspect things. I should have just left, but couldn’t take my eyes off him as he struggled to get it to run.  Man, that sucks.

I dipped one of the chicken bites into the honey mustard sauce and popped it into my mouth, continuing to watch this like a spectator sport for several minutes. At one point, he took out his phone and made a phone call as he paced back and forth.

Putting his phone away, he looked in my direction and glared at me. Caught in the act of watching him, I let out a nervous laugh. I didn’t mean to laugh at the situation, but it just came out. He raised his brow, and that made me cackle harder. He slowly walked toward me, clutching the helmet by his side. He knocked on my window, and I lowered it.

“You think this is funny, Princess?”

“Not really…maybe.” I snorted.

“Well, I’m glad you finally managed to find your sense of humor.”

HUE-MA.

God, his accent was sexy.

He arched his neck to look into the backseat and took notice of all the boxes. “You homeless or something? Living out of your car?”

“No. I’m in the middle of a cross-country move.”

“Where you headed?”

“Temecula.”

“California.” He nodded. “Me, too.”

I looked toward his Harley. “Well, it looks like you’re not exactly headed anywhere anytime soon. I guess it’s payback for calling me a bitch.”

“Well, that would seem to be the case.”

“That it’s payback?”

“No, that you’re a bitch.”

“Very funny.”

“You know what’s even better than payback?” he asked leaning into the window, his cologne intoxicating me.

“What?”

He wiggled his brows. “Karma.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Come around and have a look at the back of your Beemer.”

BEE-MA.

I got out and walked around to the back of my car to find my right rear tire was completely flat.

What? This cannot be happening.

With my hand on my forehead, I looked over at his smug expression. “Are you kidding me? Did you know my tire was flat all this time?”

“I noticed it right around the time I caught you popping chicken and laughing at me, yes. It was real hard for me to keep a straight face at that point.”

I didn’t know how to change a tire to save my life. I couldn’t believe what I was about to ask of him.

“Do you know how to change a tire?”

“Of course I do. What kind of a man would I be if I didn’t know how to change a tire?”

“Will you help me? I know you have no reason to want to…after our little altercation, but I’m seriously desperate. I don’t want to be stuck out here all alone at night.”

“Let me ask you a question.”

“Okay…”

He rubbed the scruff on his chin. “How badly do you want your tire changed?”

I backed away from him. “What exactly are you getting at?”

“Get your mind out of the gutter, sweetheart. I’m not fucking propositioning you if that’s what you think. You’re not my type.”

“And what exactly is your type?”

“I typically go for women who don’t have the personality of a door knob.”

“Thanks.”

“My pleasure.”

“So, what are your conditions?”

“Well, as you clearly know from your laughing fit, my Harley is experiencing a technical malfunction at the moment. It needs a part that I don’t have. I just called a tow company. But I’m on a deadline, and like you, I need to get to California.”

“You’re not suggesting…”

“Yes. Yes, I am. If I change your tire, you let me ride with you.”

“Ride with me?”

“Ride me, yes.”

“What did you just say?”

“You’re hearing things.”

I shook my head to rid the images now flashing through it. Did my tired mind only imagine that he just said that, or was he messing with me?

“I cannot drive hundreds of miles with a total stranger,” I said.

“It’s a fuck of a lot safer than driving alone.”

“Not if you’re a serial killer!”

“Look who’s talking. You’re the one who decapitated a U.S. president.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. This situation was seriously insane.

“Holy shit, Princess, is that a laugh at your own expense, I see?”

“I think you’re making me delirious.”

He stuck out his hand. “So, you in?”

I crossed my arms instead of taking it. “What choice do I have?”

“Well, you could always have him change your tire.” He gestured to a large and scary-looking man who seemed to be watching us. This guy looked like Herman Munster in the flesh.

Letting out a deep breath, I conceded. “I’m in. I’m in! Just get me out of here.”

“I thought you might say that. Please tell me you have a spare.”

“Yeah. But I have to move some of my boxes so you can get to it.”

He started to crack up when he got a load of the situation inside my trunk. “Damn, what the hell is all this crap?”

I looked into his eyes and answered honestly, “My entire life.”

I temporarily piled the contents of the trunk onto the pavement. He got the spare out and immediately got to work.

As he was changing the tire, his white t-shirt rode up, exposing his tanned, rock-hard abs and a thin trail of hair that ran into his underwear line. Unwanted tension built between my legs. I needed a distraction, so I walked over to his bike and sat on it, gripping the handles and imagining what it would be like to ride in the wind. But all I could envision now was him in front of me, and that wasn’t helping.

He slid his body from under my car. “Be careful, little girl. That’s not a toy.”

I hopped off and ran my finger along the letters emblazoned on the saddlebags. “What’s C.B. stand for anyway?”

“Those are my initials.”

“Let me guess…Cocky Bastard?”

“See…I would have told you my name, but since you’re so clever, I think I’ll just let you guess.”

“Whatever, Cocky.”

He lay back down on the ground. “I’m just tightening up these nuts, and we’ll be ready to go.”

“Nuts?”

“Lug nuts…on the wheel, dirty girl.”

“Oh.”

Hopping up, he lifted his shirt and used it to wipe his forehead. “All set.”

Damn.

“That was quick. Are you sure it’s on right?”

“I’ve got a few screws loose, darling, as you’ll soon find out, but none of them are on your wheel.” He winked and for the first time, I noticed his dimples. “We should probably stop tomorrow and get a new tire put on. This spare is really not meant for long term use.”

Tomorrow. Wow. This was really happening.

“We should get going,” I said. “I’ll drive. I need to be in control of this situation.”

“Whatever you want,” he said.

I could feel the tension in my neck as I backed out of the spot. This was going to be very interesting to say the least. He wasted no time digging into my chicken bites.

I playfully slapped his hand. “Hey, lay off my food.”

“Honey mustard? I prefer barbecue.” He licked his thumb, and I swore at myself for getting turned on a little. This was going to be a long ride.

He smirked and lifted the plastic bag from the souvenir shop. “Did you even open it?”

“No. What’s the point? It’s just a broken bobblehead.”

Handing it to me, he said, “Is it?”

With one hand on the steering wheel, I took out the bobblehead which was…in one piece.

“What the…how did you?”

“You seemed to like it, so I paid for the other and bought you a different one. You were too busy looking through your purse to notice.”

I couldn’t help but smile and shook my head.

“Well, whaddya know. A genuine smile.” He held out his hand. “Here…gimme.” When, I handed it to him, he took an adhesive strip off the bottom and stuck it to the dash. Obama’s head was now bopping up and down with every movement of the car.

I broke out in laughter at the ridiculousness but also couldn’t help the warm feeling that came over me with that sweet gesture. Maybe he wasn’t really a bastard at all.

We were quiet for a while as he lay his head back and shut his eyes. Somewhere along I-76 after the sun set into a bright orange glow that illuminated the horizon in the distance, he turned to me.

His voice was groggy. “I’m Chance.”

After several seconds of silence, I said, “Aubrey.”

“Aubrey,” he repeated in a breathy whisper, seeming to contemplate my name before closing his eyes again and turning his head away.

Chance.

Blurb

He was someone who belonged in my wildest fantasies instead of a rest stop in the middle of Nebraska.

A sexy, cocky, Australian named Chance was the last person I expected to run into on my cross-country drive.

When my car broke down, we made a deal. Next thing I knew, we were traveling together, spending sexually-tense nights in hotels and taking unplanned detours.

My ordinary road trip turned into the adventure of a lifetime. It was all fun and games until things got intense.

I wanted him, but Chance wouldn’t make a move. I thought he wanted me too, but something was holding him back.

I wasn’t supposed to fall for the cocky bastard, especially when I knew we’d be going our separate ways.

All good things must come to an end, right?

Except our ending was one I didn’t see coming.

Review

I have been excited for this book since I read the teaser chapter at the end of Bang Switch, the third book in this series. When my RCR Blogger Boss Lady, Miranda, told me that I was getting this ARC, well, to be honest, my reaction was something along the lines of this:

And, as is typical with my experience during a Lani Lynn Vale book, I was not disappointed. This book contains a detailed description of a violent act against a woman and is, essentially, about her recovery, both emotionally and physically, in its aftermath. I’ve always considered myself a Lani Lynn Vale fan, but after reading this book, I think my love of this author’s work ventures from simply being a fan and into the fanatical.

Mercy Shepard is a tiny powerhouse of a woman with a huge spirit and an enormously giving heart. The founder of Second Chance, a work program for veterans who need to work but need an understanding environment, she has given many men fresh off the battlefields exactly what the name of the program implies – a second chance.

She looked at me with her heart in her eyes… And that was the beginning of how I became well and truly fucked.”

Miller Genuine Spurlock, a retired Navy SEAL, is a member of the Kilgore, Texas Police Department and is on their SWAT Team. Following a humiliating sexual encounter that very nearly injured two innocent bystanders seriously, Miller has done some soul searching and has changed his ways. Looking around at his fellow teammates and seeing what they have – happiness, love, families – he is now open to a more serious relationship with a woman, something he hadn’t been ready for before “the incident.”

All that was here was Mercy and Me. My Mercy Me.”

During a SWAT operation from hell, Miller, along with national news media and the entire population of Kilgore, witnessed Mercy’s violation as her ex boyfriend assaulted her against a glass window in a church. It was Miller who provided the distraction necessary to get Mercy’s attacker into a position where the SWAT Team could act.

“…I didn’t fall. Why? Because Miller was there to catch me.”

From that moment on, for both Miller and Mercy, a bond was formed. She leaned on him and took refuge in the feelings of safety he evoked in her, and he fell hard and fast for this resilient and strong woman. I loved watching their relationship grow and develop, and as is ever present in her works, Lani delivers this relationship with her special brand of humor, snarky sassiness and alpha male awesomeness.

I won’t ever leave you, and I won’t ever do anything to you that’ll hurt you. I’ll be your shadow that makes sure you’re always protected. This I swear to you.”

I have a rule when it comes to Lani’s books. I only do this with three authors, and she is one of them. I don’t read any teasers nor do I read the teaser passage at the end of each book for the next book. I know I’m getting a new Lani Lynn Vale the next month, and I know it’s going to be great. I like the thrill of experiencing a new Lani Lynn Vale release without any preconceived notions and in it’s full, unspoiled glory. So I avoid anything that will tip me off and steal that buzz. But, at the end of Bang Switch, for the first time ever, I broke my rule and read the passage for Execution Style. I was hooked hard, and I couldn’t wait for this book. And let me tell you, Lani totally delivered, and I was not disappointed.

I loved this story so, so much. Everything, from how perfect Miller and his Mercy Me were together to the way their relationship developed. Their easy, sexy relationship and their highly entertaining back-and-forth banter worked for me in a very big way. It was all delivered with Vale’s trademark blend of humor and steam, a well written story built upon an interesting plot and those delicious, hilarious little blurbs that kick off each chapter. This book was perfect from start to finish, which is always the case for me with this author. I mean, how can I not love an author who uses the same description as me for hot dogs?

A big, fat, solid 5 Smooches for Miller and his Mercy Me!!

She wants – desperately – to prove everyone wrong by actually graduating, but it all comes down to her passing her Journalistic Reporting class by researching and writing an article on a subject that is very far out of her comfort zone: MMA fighting.

I’ve never hated someone I like so much.”

Tyler Walker, champion XWL fighter, is everything you’d expect an MMA fighter to be: arrogant, confident, and cocky. His massive, muscular frame exudes power and strength, but he almost boyish good looks, with dual dimples no less, guarantee Ty a massive fan base, especially from his female followers, who pursue him relentlessly. He is the bad boy, through and through, to Blaire’s hipster, vegan, Charlie Hunnam loving self.

Keep walking, cowboy.”

Their first meeting does not go well, and their first date is nothing short of disastrous. But the more time they spend with each other, both in the gym and out of it, the more the attraction between them intensifies. The more Ty pushes Blaire, or Barbie as he calls her, the more she pushes back both turning him on and pissing him off.

I’m caving in this moment. Hormones are on a break, and Brain is dead right now. But you know who’s rocking it like a badass? Heart…”

For most of the book, I found Blaire to be really funny, especially her internal monologues that play out in the form of a constant battle of the wills between her hormones, heart and brain over all things Ty. He pursues her relentlessly and wears her down, showing a kind, gentle side of himself to her that he rarely shows to anyone, and she is totally surprised. But Ty is harboring a big secret, one that could threaten his relationship with Blaire.

I’ve always been a late bloomer, and I have a feeling that I may be late again.”

 After Ty’s secret was revealed, however, I was disappointed in her and her handling of it. I thought her reaction was over the top, judgmental and it spoke volumes about her maturity and lack of relationship experience. I loved Ty, though. He was cocky and arrogant, sure, but he had this sweet side, and he totally won me over with how he genuinely tried to change his ways with and for Blaire.

Overall, this was a well-written story, and it had a lot of funny moments. Where it fell just short of the 4-smooch mark for me was the aforementioned heroine’s reaction to the hero’s secret along with what I felt was a rather abrupt and open ending. Not everyone will have the same reaction to the heroine as I did, and in that case, I think those readers will really love this story.

Synopsis

Julia Conti is living the dream in New York City. She has a job she loves in publishing and shares an apartment in the Village with her lifelong best friend, Allie. Following a bad break-up, Julia swears off of men and relationships, until she meets Ben Martin, an up and coming author who is smart, sexy and very easy on the eyes. Fueled by their mutual attraction, close working relationship and fear of relationships, Julia and Ben embark on a purely physical affair, following the Casual Rule. As they bring each other further into their lives, their casual status blurs. Can she keep sex and love separate or will feelings take hold and Julia get her heart broken again?

A little sweet, a little smutty, a little snarky.
Recommended for readers 18+ due to sexual references and sex scenes

Review

I’m always really wary about friends with benefits stories as they tend to follow a pretty similar set of rules and dilemmas, and if you’ve read one, you’ve read ‘em all, however with The Casual Rule, I was pleasantly surprised, in fact I grew to not only love the story but Ben and Jules as well. Initially I thought the story wasn’t going to work out for me, I felt that the dialogue in the beginning between Jules and her best friend Allie seemed a little forced and immature for women their age but after the initial ‘meet cute’ between Ben and Jules in the perfect setting, the entire book seemed to find it’s groove, ricocheting between funny, romantic and down right sizzling sexy. The chemistry between the two main protagonists is pretty much the catalyst for the drama and fun and scorching sex in the book, because let’s face it what would a f**k buddies to life long love book be without two engaging lead characters.

‘“I’m not falling in love with Ben. We fool around. We have a good time. We’re friends. There’s nothing more than that. You’ve had these types of relationships for as long as I can remember. How is that any different?”

“I never invited my fuck buddy to meet the folks.”

Ouch, that stings. Allie has never been one to mince her words.’

There were some lovely moments between Ben and Jules, with a beautiful progression of falling in love, even when some characters were in the throes of utter denial but what stood out about this book for me was Jules. She owned her feelings, there was no beating around the bush or concealment on her part, she felt it, she worked through it and declared it and in the end she was one of the strongest and most admirable lead female’s I’ve read in a long time.

Usually I have a real hard time connecting with the girl in the romantic duo as sometimes they can be written as quite timid, weak and feeble in the face of a strong man but in The Casual Rule, Jules was queen. Ben was a bit wooden in the beginning and I think I still didn’t know much about him as a person until Christmas Eve rolled around, I’m a huge fan of dual points of view and I think in this instance we would have benefitted a little to get inside Ben’s head, to witness his struggle with his growing and complicated emotions involving the vivacious Jules.

It’s a very well written book without much of the same trappings as your typical friends with benefits saga. The characters hold your interest and you find yourself becoming increasingly ingrained into their lives and that is what a good story is all about for me. I would love to see Allie get her own happily ever after as well.

Synopsis

My name is Logan Steele. I’m devilishly handsome, seriously ripped, well hung, charismatic and highly sexed. Women just can’t resist me. So when I lost my job in the construction industry and was struggling for cash, I decided to put my assets to good use.

By day I’m a private personal fitness trainer. By night I’m a high class escort.

Tell me your fantasy, I’ll fulfil it ~ So, who do you want me to be?”

Filthy for the Night

My next client is Yasmin Taylor, a footballer’s wife who was bored of the constant lonely nights while he was on tour. She’s a regular of mine, booking me at least one a quarter. Due to her husband’s high profile in the media, he didn’t dare offer her the sort of kink that really got her off. Enter Logan Steele. I was more than man enough to accept that challenge, but given our last few encounters, when her brief specified that she wanted real filth for the night, I had to wrack my brains to come up with something new, something to raise the bar even higher. Something that hopefully wouldn’t land either of us in a jail cell for the night, or snapped mid act by a member of the paparazzi.

~~~~~~
The novella’s are told in alternating points of view of Logan Steele, and his client, or clients. You can pick up any of them for a complete short burst of heat, however in order to fully enjoy Logan’s development they should be read in the sequence that they are released. Starting from October 2014, I will release one per month.
Review
Logan continues fulfilling the fantasies of his clients and we are about to see the filthiest one yet, as he plans a night of dirty, filthy, sex for his long time client Yasmin. But is Logan finally starting to get tired of this lifestyle? Has Summer really got to his head? Does he want to finally get out of the business for good?
 “Until I’d met Summer and she’d woken something up inside of me, something I didn’t even know I was missing until I’d experienced that night with her. A need to be able to really care for someone and be cared for that much in return.”
In the next novella of this series we are back with the hot, seductive, dominant, sexy Logan as he continues to bring even the dirtiest of fantasies to life. And I have to admit, this was the dirtiest by far, a real kinky sexy novella. Head my warning and don’t read this while you are in public!
“I want to feel like a complete cheap dirty whore and it would really turn me on for you to be fully dressed, watching me get fucked by other men, to be covered in their come before you finish me off. No one makes me come like you do, Logan.”
I enjoyed this sexy short novella as much as the others and probably just that little bit more. It was the sexiest by far, if you are in to the slightly more adventurous sex as this contains orgies with strangers, and I loved that we are finally seeing some doubt from Logan as I desperately want him to go back to Summer.
“The first woman in years who’d got to me, that I couldn’t stop thinking about, that I imagined I was with when I was with another client? Of course it would hurt, having her again and watching her walk away was going to hurt like hell, far worse than this damn broken ankle.”
Logan remains the sexy escort we fell in love with but we are starting to see more and more of his personality outside his escort persona. While fulfilling Yasmin’s fantasy, he starts to realize that this isn’t how he wants to live his life and finds himself no longer being so easily turned on. But he’s still clinging to his lifestyle, will he finally give it up? Will he unblock Summer and finally get back into contact with her? Honestly I’m not sure, and that’s why I look forward to the next installment in this extremely hot series.
Review
Wow, folks.  I seriously cannot believe that A. Meredith Walters is writing this psychological thriller.  It is so incredibly different than her romance which I happen to love all of.  I love her writing style as it is super smart and pretty angsty.  But these books are seriously dark and twisted and definitely not a romance although there does seem to be a bit of a romance factor.  They are just so very different than other things I have read from this author.  I am completely thrown for a loop and surprised in the best of ways.
I finished this book this morning and I am still trying to wrap my mind around it all.  This is the second installment in this serial so obviously you need to read the first book before this one.  And even though you have read both of them you are still going to be crazy confused.  Because after finishing, I am like what in the actual hell did I just read?  Did that just happen?  What is real and what isn’t?  Is anybody in this book not crazy?  What the hell is going on?!  Goodness my mind is completely blown and I have absolutely no idea what is going to happen in the third book but I am seriously looking forward to it.  This book had my heart racing.  This serial is teeth clenching and thrilling.  I am a romance girl 99 percent of the time but man, I am adoring these books and all the while having a hard time sleeping after reading them.
BLURB
I met my true love when I was twenty-seven. He was handsome, charming, witty, and irresistible. Jayden Monroe came along when I was struggling with
indecision and made things simple, turned monochrome into vivid color, and forever altered my perspective on life.
I was not naive enough to believe in happily ever after, but with Jayden, it seemed possible . . . until I realized something wasn’t quite right.
You see, I met a man who would be anyone I needed him to be, and after I found out that fact, I knew it would be impossible to walk away. His disorder,
however, would change everything I ever thought about love and what it truly meant to accept someone for who they are.
This is not my sob story; this is his success story
EXCERPT
“Jayden,” I said in warning.
“Okay.” He let out a long breath. “It’s like a tidal wave that’s impossible to stop. I just get sad and a little scared. It’s not clinical, but it’s rough.
I feel like everything’s wrong. Nothing will get better. You know, hopeless.” I nodded as I felt the discomfort he was feeling from telling me. “It doesn’t
happen a lot, once or twice a year, and it doesn’t last long. It’s not even really a symptom of ADHD. I don’t know. I guess my racing brain just gets tired
and I shut down. It’s all about the chemicals in my brain. You know what ADHD is, right?”
“I’m beginning to think I don’t,” I said honestly. “I started to look it up the other night and then your mom called.”
“My mom called?”
“Yes, we are going to a barbeque Saturday.”
“No shit,” he said, smiling.
Jayden picked up a sponge from the side of the tub and poured some liquid soap on it to suds it up then began rubbing my leg with it. “She’s going to love
you, Hilary.”
“Oh yeah, how do you know that?”
“I know her.” He grinned.
Jayden’s sponge drifted over my stomach as he crept closer to me. Still working his sponge, he managed to lift me by my arms, pulling me into his seated
lap. I felt his growing hardness as I wrapped my legs around him. His muscled arms firmly around me, he used the sponge on my back as he stared into my
eyes. “I missed you.”
“You didn’t have to,” I protested, looking away. I didn’t want to cry again. I didn’t want him to think of me as weak. I wanted him to be able to trust
that I could handle it.
“Look at me,” he ordered gently, gripping me tighter as he continued to bathe me. “I wasn’t there.”
I nodded. “I’ll live. I . . . You didn’t tell me about that part.”
“Do you have any idea how hard it is to explain to the person you are falling for that they might not want to reciprocate your affection because you may on
occasion have an uncontrollable, explosive temper tantrum? Or that you may pop off with inappropriate comments at any point in time that could alienate
them? Oh, and don’t forget the controlling, OCD tendencies with a small, short-lived side of anxiety and depression. Or better yet, how to explain you
weren’t listening to something important they were trying to convey because you were too busy figuring out the difference between jelly and jam.”
“Just like that,” I answered, knowing it wasn’t that simple.
