Synopsis

“Sugar, Jules and I had run for our lives. Only our shadows had followed us. And no matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t outpace them.”

All-around bad boy, and twenty-five-year-old heir to the Jameson fortune, Tommy Jameson, knows three things:
– His family is disappointed in him.
– Overcoming his addictions won’t necessarily crush his vices.
– He is wildly in love with Sugar Scarborough, a girl who is dealing with her own addictions and an insatiable need to please.

Danger sends Tommy, Sugar and their friend, Julian Fitzpatrick, a heavily medicated, socially dysfunctional genius, fleeing from Green Willow Recovery Center. Now, together, they will face the outside world and uncover a horrifying mystery while being forced to confront their inner demons.

Review

Tommy knows he is a disappointment to his family; ordered to stay at a facility for young adults with “difficulties” and there meets the young, troubled and vicarious Sugar who he’s madly in love with and Julian, a young man who’s brilliance is overshadowed by his troubled personality. But all is not as it seems at this facility and eventually finds these 3 on the run trying to figure out what happened and escape their pasts.

I LOVED LOVED LOVED this story!! One word to sum up how I felt reading this is just “wow.” It was a fast-paced, smart and exciting read with plenty of twists which meant I never saw the ending coming at all. We know from the very start of the book that Tommy is in prison and I love the way it started like this because right away you are desperate to know what happened.

“Only our shadows had followed us. And no matter how hard we tried, we couldn’t outpace them.”

The three main characters were just brilliant, each in their own way. Tommy was funny, sarcastic, strong and troubled but he knew he was and he knew why and I liked that he was brave enough to admit this. He didn’t let anything hold him back and you could see that nearly from the start of the story that he wanted to prove people wrong. Sugar was so strong considering her past! So amazingly strong and although she definitely had her problems you felt for her so much and I loved the bright, funny side of her personality that you knew was who she really was. And finally Julian; oh Julian, so smart but so broken. You couldn’t help but love Julian, right from the start and as the story developed you started to understand the depth of his troubles and there are definitely times when I wasn’t sure if we would or even could pull himself out.

“You don’t do it consciously, and this sounds weird, but it’s like when you’re there, you absorb all the coldness, the sadness, like you were put here just for that, to take away some of the ugliness. Like I ended up here at Green Willow just to be near you.”

The plot was brilliant. So smart, so exciting; just kept me reading page after page after page. It was such a clever thought out plot, and the writing just flowed. I don’t want to give anything away but wow were those some twists, I didn’t see it coming and I don’t imagine many will. The way it all came together in the end was hugely satisfying after such a ‘on the edge of your seat, nail biting’ read.

“We were mismatched in so many ways, but there was something, a sort of kinship, between us all. Something we desperately needed. Something that made sense to us, and while we didn’t know it then, something that would change each of us forever.”

I have no complaints for this story and I can’t wait to read more from this author who just knows exactly what she is doing and how to create a story that will hold you throughout the read and for a long time after…I miss Tommy, Sugar and Julian already!

“You wait for me, baby. Do you hear me? You fucking wait for me, because I’ve never loved anyone until you. You stay safe, and you wait for me.”

Synopsis

Abby Gauthier is close to getting everything she’s worked so hard for. The band she manages, Sinister Riot, has been offered a major record contract. But it comes with a catch: the band must add Eli Jamison, winner of the talent show The Spotlight, to the lineup.

Devon Sinclair is the singer of Sinister Riot, and he’s Abby’s best friend. She’s in love with him, but fears she’ll lose him if she makes the first move. Devon knows adding Eli to the band is a mistake, and he’s right. Eli’s interested in more than just making an album. He wants to take control of the band, and he wants to get to know Abby better. A lot better. When tensions between Devon and Eli threaten to destroy Sinister Riot, Abby must act on her true feelings or lose everything she’s ever wanted.

Review

Abby Gauthier and Devon Sinclair have been best friends since middle school. Over the years, they piece together a band, Sinister Riot, and thanks to Abby’s tireless promotion of them, the band is now a local fan favorite of the New Orleans music scene. While going to college to pursue an entertainment management degree, she books their shows, manages their social media presence and sells their merchandise at their shows.

Devon is pursuing his dream. Sinister Riot is his and Abby’s youthful brainchild, and he pours his heart and soul into the band. With Abby as his best friend and his rock, he has somewhere to call home when it all falls to pieces. Abby, constantly reminded by her sister that she has to stop living her life for Devon, is also secretly in love with Devon. It pains her greatly when he plays the field and comes running to her when it falls apart. Unwilling to risk what they have for what they might have, Abby doesn’t tell Devon how she feels. Then the new band member, Eli Jamison, shows her he’s interested in her outside the band, and for the first time, Abby is interested, too.

Devon Sinclair sucked the single right out of me.”

During one of their shows, a representative approaches Abby from a record label. That conversation is the break they’ve been hoping and praying for, but it comes with a catch. Ultimately, that catch changes everything for the band. The band will have to make concessions, and only time will tell if those concessions will have been worth it.

I liked Abby. She was an interesting mix of mature qualities in someone so young. She had a vision for the band and focused on pursuing it, she was selfless in her work on behalf of the band, and she completely believed in them. It was hard, however, to watch her find her footing in life as she struggled to have that same belief in herself and her abilities. She had trouble recognizing her own self worth, and it was frustrating at times to see her so unsure of her value to and place with the band. It didn’t help that her sister and parents told her often that she was living for Devon and that pursuing a career in music entertainment management wasn’t realistic or worthwhile.

For Devon, it took him the complete collapse of his dream to help him figure out what he really wanted. He was on the verge of losing Abby, and his antics during that time were the catalyst to the wake up call he needed. Having been replaced in the band that was his dream and his brainchild was a nearly devastating blow, but Devon really surprised me. He could have easily buckled under that defeat, but instead he did the smart thing and focused – on his music and on his relationship with Abby. Together, they did what they always did. They came together, they moved forward and they started from scratch.

This book is a standalone novel within Strassel’s Spotlight series. She is a talented author, and this book is very well written with likeable characters, a realistic and interesting plot and a sweet romance between the main characters. While not at all a cliffhanger, this book has a fade to black feel to the ending.

Synopsis

My name is Logan Steele. I’m devilishly handsome, seriously ripped, well hung, charismatic and highly sexed. Women just can’t resist me. So when I lost my job in the construction industry and was struggling for cash, I decided to put my assets to good use.

By day I’m a private personal fitness trainer. By night I’m a high class escort.

I don’t advertise my sexual services anymore, I have a long client list that come to me through word of mouth. I’m that good I’m booked months in advance. Scores of women pay me extortionately high fees to fulfil their fantasies. And for the most part I do. I have a strict set of rules that I abide by, which are provided in the full contract that you’ll receive along with the booking form, if accepted. I’ve bullet pointed an abridged version below, just so you’re clear before you send me an email request:

Rules my clients must comply with are:
I must see a picture in advance.
I can decline the booking request without explanation.
I can only be booked for the night.
All sexual acts must be consensual.
I will provide you with a report to complete, then I will choose the setting for our meeting based on your scenario.
I am flown first class or by private jet if I am required to work abroad.
In the event of the above, I will provide my dietary requirements in advance.
I will perform a full background check.
I base my variable charge on the scenario being requested.

“No” rules that I stipulate are:
No bareback.
No minors.
No physical violence.
Nothing illegal.
No form of emotional attachment during or after the event. I am merely performing a sexual or companion service.
No contact after the event, unless it is for a new booking.

And my absolute number one rule, without exception is:
Full payment up front, which is non-refundable.

There is no requirement for a refund clause, I never fail to perform.

So, now you are aware of my rules for the night and are about to contact me, all that remains to be asked is “Who do you want me to be?”

‘Strangers for the Night’ is Camilla Domville’s idea of the perfect fantasy. Meeting a hot guy in a bar and going back to his hotel room for a night of unbridled passion, that’s if they even make it to the hotel room before Logan seduces her.

Downright raunchy, saucy and hot, Logan’s sexcapade with Camilla threatens to be his last, as she’s set her sights on him and is determined to be his one and only client moving forwards. But Logan’s main mantra is “Never get emotionally attached to your client.”

While this works with Camilla, a booking with a future client has him looking forward to it in a way he never has before.

Review

“My name is Logan Steele. I’m devilishly handsome, seriously ripped, well hung, charismatic and highly sexed. Women just can’t resist me. So when I lost my job in the construction industry and was struggling for cash, I decided to put my assets to good use.”

Logan is a very high paid male escort. He has rich woman spending thousands to get just one night with him and for good reason; he knows exactly how to make your fantasy come true and his impressive stamina and build will exhaust any woman out.

This was a very short, but very hot read! It is an erotica but it wasn’t just sex, it kept you hooked, there was a solid story line and I LOVED Logan.

“He grabbed my knees and started to pull and push me as he fucked me impeccably. Everything hurt, but in such a good way. My nipples were stinging, my clit was throbbing and I felt lightheaded from the sheer force of him.”

He was smart, sexy, dirty and in control. He isn’t embarrassed about what he does and he makes you wish you were hiring him for a night.

This is a serial so they are very short but within this first one you got all the background, experiencing for the first time what a night with him his like and you also have the anticipation of meeting Summer in the serials to come. There’s also the drama of Camilla and her slightly psycho personality which I definitely think we will be seeing more of.

“‘You want my cock inside you don’t you Camilla, bruising you, stretching you, pleasuring you,’ he stated. I nodded, unable to form words. ‘Then you’ll do exactly as I tell you, no arguments, no hesitations,’ he raised a perfectly groomed dark brow as he waited for my response.”

I can’t wait to read the next one and find out what happens when Logan and Summer meet and how that develops. If you are looking for a hot, sexy, short and fun read then this will definitely be the read for you!

Can Bobby and Jessica survive the dangers they bring upon themselves?

Review

I always feel really anxious going into an MC romance book as some of them are quite brutal and laden with so much angst and emotional chaos that my insides feel twisted and coiled by the end of it all. I’m not ashamed to admit I’m a wimp and like my MC novels relatively tame but with M.N Forgy’s newest book in her MC series I seemed to have struck a really terrific balance in getting the two. Don’t get me wrong, my emotions went through the wringer with Bobby and Jessica as they waged their hard fought battle to happiness and there are some heavy issues to be dealt with particularly the horrendous sexual and physical violence Jessica suffers at the hands of her sadistic bastard of a husband and it is certainly not smooth sailing to a HEA with badass self-proclaimed commitment-phobe Bobby but the journey we go through to get to that point is so exhilarating and dramatic with a timeline of events that was well paced and realistic.
Jessica shows up at the MC compound one morning battered and bruised offering to strike a deal with the club in order to receive sanctuary- she will doctor them in exchange for protection; a club that Bobby is a part of and when he sees Jessica for the very first time he immediately wants her and so begins years of a non-exclusive, hit it and quit it type of relationship between our two main protagonists. What I really relished was the unique dynamic of Bobby and Jessica, Jessica was the one in control, the one who didn’t want a relationship but was quite happy to hook up with the sexy biker when the fancy took although Bobby is fairly happy with that arrangement himself or so he tries to convince himself anyway. He may come across as a go-with-the-flow, take whatever is offered cliched manslut but he hides his true feelings and the depth of emotion he feels for Jessica, someone he’s wanted for years. When he decides to help his woman get past her fears and insecurities brought about by her PTSD we see the dynamic shift and change and a well of emotions bubble to the surface cementing these two as another unforgettable literary couple.
‘I breathe deeply as his hands slide along the scars of my back tenderly, but my body doesn’t tense and my mind doesn’t ficker with distressed memories of what was. I smile, the feeling of Bobby’s fingers caressing my imperfection welcoming instead of suffocating.’
The whole book was so well written and different to any MC book I’ve delved into in the past. It had everything I wanted and some things I didn’t know I needed like the added trepidation of not knowing how things were going to play out, the unpredictability and struggles the characters face is what gives the book clout and the hero and heroine a chance to shine and prove their worth in the readers eyes. It was the first book I’ve read in this series but it was very easy to follow and can be read as a stand alone. The dialogue was perfect, the action and club dealings violent and riveting and the sex scenes erotic (sexy hard ass bikers have that effect) but above all the love story had me hanging on until the very end, it was sweet without being saccharine sweet and had enough trouble and hardship in it to keep it grounded.

“Where have you been?” My sister rushed forward, catching me up in a tight hug. “I’ve been trying to call you all day. We checked everywhere and couldn’t find you.”

“Sorry. I just needed some alone time.” I squeezed her back, unable to stop from smiling. The thought of Anne turning her back on me had scared me more than I liked to admit.

“Well, I get you might want that.” She stepped back. “But you could have told someone.”

“You can’t just disappear like that.” And Ben kept right on frowning. “Shit, Liz, you’re pregnant.”

“Don’t upset her,” snapped Anne.

Ben ignored her. “I don’t know what the hell’s going on in your head. But you need to let me know where you are.”

My eyebrows went up and my mouth opened, ready to rip him a new one.

“She doesn’t answer to you. She’ll let you know if and when she decides to let you know,” said Mal, laying down the law to his bandmate before turning my way. “You will text your sister next time you decide to go wandering for a day, understood?”

My mouth, it still hung open.

“Christ, man.” Over and over, Ben’s hands rolled into tight fists before releasing again. “Can you cut the shit and get off my back for a fucking minute?”

“Don’t swear at him.” My usually sensible and staid sister poked a finger dead center in Ben’s broad chest. “You’re the one that caused this mess, thank you very much. She might still be a little young and naive, but you’re definitely old enough to know better.”

“That’s right.” Standing about as tall as a skyscraper, despite only coming up to Ben’s nose, Mal stared him down. Or up. Whatever. “This is a family matter. You can leave, thanks.”

Prologue

Natalie

“Oh, Chloe, if you’d like to come out, please wait until your Daddy gets back,” I insist, holding my belly as another Braxton Hicks contraction hits. I grip the dresser and try to breathe through it. It seems like they’re coming more frequently.

Once it passes, I try to finish what I came in here for. Aaron is away, but I want the nursery done so we can enjoy the next few weeks once he returns. I walk around what will be her room, putting a few more of the pretty pink dresses in the drawers. Aaron and I have fought about the vast array of pink things that are now strewn around the house—he hates it, I love it.

He insisted we paint her room in camouflage. Brown, green, and black camouflage for a girl? No. I almost sent myself into labor with that argument. I got home and he and Mark were drawing it out on the walls. I launched various household items at Mark while throwing him out of the house. My husband found out shortly after how much he could suffer by my hands. I may not be a SEAL, but you don’t mess with me either. In the end, I won with purple walls and the sheer netting around her white crib.

“Daddy’s going to love this room, Chloe. I can’t wait to see his face when he sees the pretty butterflies.” Needing to take another break, I sit in the rocking chair and rub my stomach. It soothes me knowing she’s in there. I can protect her—it’s my job. I love being pregnant and it’s a miracle we were able to conceive her. I’ve already told Aaron I want to try for another one as soon as she’s born. I close my eyes and sink, allowing the world to fade away.

I imagine holding her in my arms, sitting here in this chair, soothing and kissing her. I picture Aaron with her asleep on his chest as she gets to hear his heartbeat. She’ll own his world and have him wrapped around her finger.

Knock, knock, knock.

I hear the door, but it takes me a few seconds to get out of the chair.

KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.

They bang louder this time.

“Coming!” I yell at the door. Jeez, give me a second.

Waddling to the door takes me a minute since I’m the size of a whale.

I open the door and see Mark Dixon, Aaron’s boss and close friend. He works at Cole Security Forces with Aaron and served with him for years. His head is hanging low and when he looks up, his eyes are full of sorrow.

“What’s wrong?”

“Lee,” he chokes on the one syllable of my name. The one Aaron uses. Something is definitely not right.

“What happened?” I ask again as I begin to shake.

Tears fill his eyes and I know. I know my life is never going to be the same. I know everything I’ve ever feared is about to come true because Mark doesn’t cry. Mark wouldn’t be at my door if something weren’t really, really wrong. “It’s Aaron.”

My heart stops beating and the world I live in ceases to exist. “Don’t,” I beg with tears blurring my vision and my breath accelerating.

This can’t be happening.

“Please, don’t, Mark. Please,” I beg him again, because once he says it…but I know it’s futile. It doesn’t matter because he can’t stop it. It’s already happened.

“Natalie, I’m so sorry.”

The dreaded words that every military wife fears. Only I wasn’t supposed to have to worry about this anymore. We were done. We got out. I wasn’t supposed to ever fear this again.

Please, God, don’t take him from me. Please!

“But, I’m p-pregnant. I’m having a baby,” I stammer as if that will somehow make none of this real. “He said he’d be back. He said he…” I trail off as it becomes difficult to breathe. My hand flies to my mouth to stifle the scream about to escape. Everything goes colorless.

“It was an IED. I’m sorry,” Mark says as his eyes glimmer with unshed tears.

I fall.

But he’s there, cradling me in his arms. “I’m so fucking sorry.”

“No. No. No.” Mark holds me as I sob clutching my stomach. “You’re lying,” I hiss, tearing myself out of his embrace.

“I wish I were,” he says as I struggle to get up.

“It was a mistake. He’s having a baby. He said it was a simple in and out!” I scream and throw my hands against his chest. “You’re lying!” I scream, even knowing it’s not a lie.

“I’m sorry.”

“Stop saying you’re sorry!” My sorrow turns to hatred. I hate him. I hate everyone in this moment. I hate Aaron and everyone who was there. I hate this house and everything in it. I hate the air that he no longer breathes. Hate consumes me. Hate smothers me. “Get out!” I yell and push against his chest. “Get the fuck out of my house! Aaron will be back in a few days and then we’re going to get ready for our daughter to be born.”

“Please,” Mark beseeches and I refuse to look at him.

This isn’t happening because Aaron’s alive.

He’s not dead. How dare Mark lie to me.

“He’ll be back. He wouldn’t leave me. He promised.” Aaron wouldn’t lie to me. He never does. When he left for missions, he would always say goodbye like it could be our last. But this time he kissed the tip of my nose and said, “Now don’t have that baby until I get back.”

“Can I call someone? Your mom?”

“No, you can’t call anyone because he’s not dead! Go get him, Mark! Go get my husband and bring him home.” I step back pointing my finger at him. “You all promised. He promised.” I clutch my stomach as a sharp pain radiates, but it’s nothing compared to the agony sitting on my chest. Tears flow relentlessly as I struggle against his hold. “He promised.”

“I know he did,” Mark says as he holds my head against his chest.

“He lied.”

My life is gone.

My heart is dead.

I’m a widow at twenty-seven.

Alex and Eli are ready to walk down the aisle.

Of course, their story did not begin with wedding bells.

Before proposals, before planning out I dos, there was a boy and a girl living in completely different worlds.
He thought she was a hot mess. She thought he needed an attitude adjustment.

He was burdened by the past. She was crumbling under the weight of the present.

He dreamt of something better. She had lost the ability to dream at all.

Before the bride and groom to be, there was a boy who was just trying to get by and a girl who hid her secrets behind a mask.
Now, the boy who fell hard for the girl with all the secrets wants to make her his wife.

Now, they both want to leave the pain of the past behind.

Now, they are just hoping to reach a blissful, wedded harmony.Harmony RDL Dividers TeasersHarmony Teaser #3Harmony Teaser #2Harmony Teaser #1Harmony RDL Dividers Author Bio11072714_1576288875968220_507584089_n

Drew Elyse spends her days trying to convince the world that she is, in fact, a Disney Princess, and her nights writing tear-jerking and smutty romance novels. Her debut novel, Dissonance, released in August of 2014.
When she isn’t writing, she can usually be found over-analyzing every line of a book, binge watching a series on Netflix, doing strange vocal warm ups before singing something in another language, or screaming at the TV during a Chicago Blackhawks game.
A graduate of Loyola University Chicago with a BA in English, she still lives in Chicago, IL where she was born and raised with her boyfriend and her prima donna pet rabbit, Lola.Harmony RDL Dividers Stalk Here

Melanie Kincaid is a trust-fund baby with a knack for sassy comebacks and unnecessarily complicating her privileged life. So, of course she would have to fall in love with a man she can’t have.

Jameson Hayes is a NYC firefighter for Manhattan’s oldest ladder company with big shoes to fill and a city to protect. He’s strong, sexy, and not looking for the complications Melanie brings. But he can’t stay away from her either. The attraction between them is immediate and the pull between them is crazy powerful. But she’s only home for the summer and long-distance relationships never work.

Unfortunately, Melanie’s beauty and smart mouth are a lethal combination and Jameson isn’t the only Hayes who’s interested. As if his brother isn’t enough to compete with, now the city’s most famous arsonist wants to claim her as his next prize. Jameson can’t stand to watch Melanie get hurt and she can’t seem to keep herself out of trouble.

Fall for Me is the first Ladder Company novel, a stand-alone companion series about New York’s most elite firefighting family with hot alpha heroes, snarky heroines, and an arsonist hell-bent on destruction.

RELEASE DATE: APRIL 30

As a child, JC was fascinated by things that went bump in

the night. As they say, some things never change. Now, as an adult, she divides

her time between the sexy law men, mythical creatures, and kick-ass heroines

that live inside her head and pursuing her bachelor’s degree in English. JC is

a San Francisco Bay Area native, but has also called both Texas and Louisiana

home. These days she rocks her flip flops year round in Northern California and

can’t imagine a climate more beautiful.

JC writes adult, new adult, and young adult fiction. She dabbles in many

different genres including science fiction, horror, chick lit, and murder

mysteries, yet she is most enthralled by supernatural stories– and everything

has at least a splash of romance.

FLIRTING WITH FIRE(Pocket Books; On-sale: March 24, 2015; $7.99) is the first installment in Hot in Chicago sizzling new series from Kate Meader. The series features a group of firefighting foster siblings and their blazing hot love interests! Please let me know if you’d like to participate in our blog tour.  Kate Meader is available for interviews/guest post, and I’m happy to send a review copy.

Savvy PR guru Kinsey Taylor has always defined herself by her career, not her gender. That is, until she moved from San Francisco to Chicago to be with her fiancé who thought she wasn’t taking her “job” of supporting him in his high-powered career seriously enough—and promptly dumped her for a more supportive and “feminine” nurse. Now, as the new assistant press secretary to Chicago’s dynamic mayor, she’s determined to keep her eye on the prize: no time to feel inferior because she’s a strong, kick-ass woman, and certainly no time for men.
But that all changes when she meets Luke Almeida, a firefighter as searingly sexy as he is quick-tempered. He’s also the second oldest of the Firefightin’ Dempseys, a family of foster siblings who have committed their lives to the service—if Luke’s antics don’t get him fired first. When Luke goes one step too far and gets into a bar brawl with the Chicago Police Department, Kinsey marches into Luke’s firehouse and lays down the law on orders from the mayor. But at Engine Co. 6, Luke Almeida is the law. And he’s not about to let Kinsey make the rules.

About the author:

Originally from Ireland, Kate cut her romance reader teeth on Maeve Binchy and Jilly Cooper novels, with some Mills & Boon thrown in for variety. Give her tales about brooding mill owners, oversexed equestrians, and men who can rock an apron or a fire hose, and she’s there. Now based in Chicago, she writes sexy contemporary romance with alpha heroes and strong heroines who can match their men quip for quip. Visit her at KateMeader.com.

Excerpt

She tried another tack. “The members of CFD, and Engine 6 in particular, are heavily involved in the city’s community, from their great service and public education to volunteer work and charity drives. Our campaign needs to focus on those efforts so we can minimize the negatives. Maybe even wipe those negatives out of existence.”

Laying the list down on her desk, he stared at her in a way that completely unnerved her. “When the negatives are caught on camera and blasted onto YouTube, sweetheart, there’s little chance of scrubbing the record. It’s out there forever.”

“True—”

“Plus, there’s a place in our society for those negatives, as you call them. Usually, men channel their anger into approved routes of violent expression—the military, sports, a charity boxing match between CPD and CFD. When it’s unapproved, that’s where there’s trouble. But, Kinsey, if I had a chance to do it over, I’d still punch the living daylights out of McGinnis and take my lumps.”

Butterflies dive-bombed in her belly at all that passion and conviction. After working so long with constantly remorseful politicians, it was . . . refreshing.

He ran one large hand over the edge of her desk, mere inches from where her thigh flexed tight at the skirt of her cream-colored suit. Momentarily mesmerized by those masculine fingers, Kinsey worked to drag herself back to reality.

“Are you telling me that men are compelled by the mere fact of their gender to choose violence as their first resort?”

“Partly. It satisfies our sense of justice, it makes us feel good, and it always improves our odds with women.”

He hoisted an eyebrow, drawing her laugh. It had been awhile since she wanted to laugh, and now she was choosing to let loose at Luke Almeida’s argument for channeling his inner Ultimate Fighter.

“It won’t improve your odds with all women.”

He considered that for a moment. “No, there’ll always be some who pretend they aren’t turned on by the idea of a man who can defend himself and keep his woman safe. Usually, it’s the same women who wear sexy heels that accentuate their shapely legs or open that top button of their blouse to hint at beautiful, cuppable breasts, then scowl when a guy takes a lingering look.”

Cue lingering look. His gaze fell to the V of her blouse (top button not undone, but cut low enough to get things simmering) and continued downward, the intensity in his eyes sending her sex into a clench.

Kinsey knew she looked good, and with that scorching appraisal, she felt better. How long had it been since a man had looked at her with such candid interest? David had stopped looking at her, really looking at her, a long time ago.

“Are you one of those women, Miss Taylor? The kind who showcases her gorgeous assets and then hides behind the electric fence of feminism to keep the animals out?”

  1. That word snapped her out of her reverie. So she would never consider herself a raging feminista, but she didn’t need a degree in women’s studies to recognize Luke Almeida’s type. He was the alpha predator, a guy who turned to violence to solve his problems, a man who looked like a suit or a job or a woman could never contain him. She needed to get her head in the game and focus on the mission.

Operation Clean Up CFD. And Don’t Let Luke Almeida Distract You.

The first part would be a cinch. As for the second . . .

“I think we’re getting off track here, Mr. Almeida.”

“Luke.” Warm, sexy, inviting. Oh my.

Her mouth felt as dry as the golden sands of Baker Beach back home, the sensitive area between her thighs not so much. She smoothed clammy hands over her skirt. Drawing her palms down her thighs magnetized his gaze to her heat-saturated body. Every cell was on fire.

Maybe she should call CFD.

My Favorite Book Boyfriends

So many fictional boyfriends, so little time. Here are a few of my favorites, in no particular order (okay, I’d cut you to get with Hardy Cates):

1.  Rowdy Yates from Getting Rowdy by Lori Foster.

With his sketchy past, and his penchant for hitting first and asking questions later, Rowdy is a great protective alpha. And the cover for this book is perfection.

2.   Flynn from Willing Victim by Cara McKenna.

Construction worker-boxer with a taste for rough role-playing, and while we never get inside his head, McKenna lays it all out there. A Boston bruiser I wouldn’t mind meeting in a dark alley.

3.   Hardy Cates from Blue Eyed Devil by Lisa Kleypas.

Rich, Texan, from the wrong side of the tracks, and so caring of the heroine. LK writes the caretaker alpha so well, and Hardy is my favorite of her heroes.

4.  Joey Miller from Collision Course by K.A. Mitchell.

This is an M/M romance and while some people probably prefer the brooding Aaron of this pairing, I love, love, love the manipulative, puppy-eyed, totally grounded Joey. A surfing social worker, he’s the perfect match for a guy who’s been screwed over by the social services system.

5.  Lord Vere from His at Night by Sherry Thomas.

He’s a secret agent posing as a society idiot! What’s not to love?
