Lucian Bane’s inner Dom is out of control and hungry for things he can’t name. When he signs up for Dom Wars, he meets Tara who is naive to the BDSM world. Her reckless dominance and puritan heart fascinate him. But when he discovers the pain in her past, it unleashes his true Dom within.
Review
I am not going to lie. I went into this review negatively and with a lot of preconceived notions about this book. First, I took a look at the cover and was like, meh. Its just OK. I wasn’t crazy about it. Then I saw the author. Lucian Bane. Ugh. Another man claiming to be a Dom and writing a book about it. It seems like everyone in the world has hopped on this money train lately and left the station. The third thing was the synopsis. It sure as hell isn’t a lot to go on. At just four sentences long, how am I supposed to know what this book is about? I love when a book surprises the hell out of me and proves me wrong. So, Dom Wars was pretty much like “EFF YOU, Amie, EFF YOU”!
Dom Wars was everything I didn’t expect; comical, romantic, and sexy! I truly expected a dark book with an abusive Dom and submissive woman. What I got, was a charming lovable Dom and the most un-submissive sub EVER.
Lucian and Tara have entered Dom Wars, a competition to find the best dom. This competition is stiff (haha, you love how I did that, right?) and the stakes are high ,as Lucian and Tara both need the grand prize money in a bad way. Tara and Lucian antics are down right hysterical through most of this book. I found myself laughing out loud at some of Tara’s un-sub like behavior, and Lucian’s response.
When they weren’t making me laugh, they were capturing my heart with their troubled past and sympathetic love for each other. I really did enjoy this book. My only other gripe is that is was sooo short and their is a bit of a cliffy at the end. I cannot wait until the next one!

“Liam?”
I turn at the sound of my grandmother calling my name. She beams at me when I step toward her with an out stretched hand.
“I want to you meet a friend of mine,” she says. “Liam this is Tess and her son Harrison James. Tess is the personal assistant to my casting agent.” We spent a day going over all the jobs in the industry. There are so many that I got lost and like a true grandma, she made a list for me so I wouldn’t forget. “Harrison plays the drums at a club called Metro. They have open mic nights if you’re interested in talking to him about it,” she whispers. I nod, acknowledging what she’s telling me.
I step forward and shake both their hands. “It’s nice to meet you both,” I say.
“You too, Liam, your grandmother has told me so much about you. She’s very happy you’ve decided to stay with her.” I look at my grandma who is smiling from ear to ear.
She pats my arm. “Why don’t you take Harrison out back and show him around?”
“Okay, grandma.” I kiss her on the cheek and signal toward the patio door. Harrison follows, stepping out into the early evening sun. I walk until I’m at the back, where there is a table set up.
“Sorry about my grandmother in there. I think she’s trying to make up for all the years we’ve missed.” I sit down and lean my chair up against the tree.
“It’s okay. I was pretty much forced to come here tonight.” I inspect Harrison. He’s a bit taller than I am and far skinnier. He has a few tattoos on his arms, making wonder if they’re a necessity in the music industry. I quickly look down at my arms, curious as to what they’d look like with inked etched on them. One thing is for certain, my parents would flip and that thought alone makes me want one.
“Because of me?” I ask already knowing the answer but needing the confirmation.
He nods. “Yeah,” he says without making eye contact. “My mom is close to your grandmother so they plotted and here I am.”
“I’m sorry. If you want to leave, I can make up some excuse.” I know what it feels like to be put in awkward situations. My dad has done it to me many times, which only spurred me to withdraw from him more and more.
Harrison shakes his head slightly. “I’m cool.” He looks down at the ground or his feet. It’s not like I want to stare, but I’m trying to figure him out. He runs his hand over his beanie, moving it back and forth before leaving it where it originally was.

book 1.5 in L & J series by Emily Eck
5 Smooches
Synopsis
I know I’m a monster, but Elle made me feel like a man. If she knew what I did, about my life with MM, she’d never love me. So I lied. Well, I starfished, and in the end, it brought my world crashing down around me.
I can’t go back to being a monster, because that would mean existing without Elle. So I’ve made a plan. A plan that could kill me. It doesn’t matter though, because I’d rather be dead than live a life without Elle in it.
If I survive, will Elle forgive me? If I tell her everything, will she see past the monster? Will she see the man?
Review
This is a short book, which is told from J’s POV. We learn a little bit more about how J got to where he is now, and the incidents that made him who he is today. We find out what happened in the MC that makes J owe them more then he has. “My debt to MM was one that would never be paid off.”
We also get to read about what J was thinking when he saw Elle for the first time, and how he watched her when she comes to the club. J was convinced that a monster like him didn’t deserve someone like Elle, and that he could never be with her and cause her harm. But it was like they had a magnetic pull and he just couldn’t stay away. “My Elle shined, and brought the only bit of light to my dark and empty existence.”
We read about the guilt that he has for bringing her into his world, the one where he is a monster and has no way out of. The one where he isn’t good enough for someone like Elle, the world where he promised she would be because he would never hurt her. You can feel the guilt that J has for what happens to Elle, you feel the love that he has for her and how much he struggles to continue after he failed to do the one thing he said he wouldn’t. “I told her I’d never hurt her. What a f*king lie that turned out to be! I never meant to hurt her.”
You get to read about the aftermath of shooting and see how J is coping with what he has done and what he has lost. J seems to go into a pit of despair and the only thing he wants is Elle back, and he is willing to do whatever it takes for that to happen. Even if it meant his demise. He wants her to be safe. He loves her and would do whatever it takes to have her in his life again, if that’s possible. “Please, Elle, don’t make me go back to the emptiness.”
The book ends in preparation for the next book that I can’t wait to read. I want to find out how Elle and J’s story ends, I want them to both get the HEA that they deserve. Well done Emily Eck on another great read.

Elle isn’t looking for love. Hardened by years on the streets, she’s learned to take care of herself by covering her heart with ice and keeping men at arm’s length. She’s not weak and she doesn’t need to be saved. But she wouldn’t mind getting laid a little more often.
J’s covered his heart with steel. He owe’s his life to an MC that is not what it seems. Since he knows his priority must be to the club’s demands, no matter how illegal, he decided a long time ago that love didn’t fit anywhere in his life.
A not so chance, but definitely hot encounter on a crowded dance floor should be enough for J, but he can’t seem to stay away from Elle. As she begins to melt his steel, and he manages to chip away her ice, his forced loyalty to the MC threatens to tear them apart. When the risk becomes greater than J expected, will love be enough to keep Elle from freezing her heart to him?
Emily is a Midwestern Gal, but could be anywhere as you read this. She gypsy’s the country, as well as south of the border. Adventure feeds her soul, and offers great writing material. She loves kids and working with teens, but can only handle caring for four-legged furry friends. A crazy dog and laid back cat have trained her to be their partner in life. Vices include Swedish Fish, ignoring chores in favor of reading, and caring too much for the people in her life. She chose to write this bio in third person as she is an Aries, and found writing in first person ended up with her writing an excessively long life story. Aries like to talk about themselves. It is something Emily is working on being more mindful of.

Review
Where to start, I went into this book expecting it to be something that it wasn’t. I thought it was going to be a mc book, quite gritty and raw. What I got was sooo much more. This book follows Elle and J as they try and navigate through life the best way they know and can.
Elle likes to put up barriers and has many different faces that she shows depending on the situation that she is in. Elle is a great female lead, she may be closed off but she is loyal without fault, she loves the people that are in her life and she will do anything for them. Throughout the book we learn the many layers to her, she seems to become a totally different person with J’s help.
J has the whole mysterious bad boy persona, but like Elle only shows people what he wants them to see, the only person that he seems to let through his barrier is Elle and he doesn’t seem sure as to why that is. We get to see the closed off J, who has to leave and “do business” and then we see the soft side of J that makes him really lovable. “I know it does. I told you I would never hurt you and I meant it. I feel like I’ve waited my whole life for you, and I didn’t even know I was waiting. Since I saw you in Checks that first night, you’ve had me. I’m yours. You can break me, Elle.”
Throughout the book, we learn more about who both Elle and J are, we learn about their pasts and what they want from their futures. We watch them grow, together and independently. We see them open up to each other and let their feelings out. “When im with you, my heart is bare, raw, open. It wouldn’t take much for you to rip it out if you chose.”
There are many other characters in this book, that shouldn’t be overlooked. We have the best friends Chris and Aaron, they are loyal to Elle and you can feel how much they all love each other. Chris and Aaron had me laughing at many point with the funny banter they have amongst them all and the three way phone calls they share, to help Elle calm down. We also have a few others like Larry, Jesse and Jose who Elle works with and are also friends to her, but they don’t know the real Elle as she likes to say.
Elle volunteers at a teen program, here she seems to give advice and become somewhat of a confidant and friend to the teens there. She helps a couple of the girls to make sure they are safe and she tries to help a few of the boys there. She soon find that there is problems with one the kids at the program and doesn’t know what to do about it.
One text changes everything for her, she goes to help and things go wrong. The ending to this book, was so unexpected and totally shocked me, although it probably shouldn’t have. Elle would do anything to protect someone she cared about. Well done Emily Eck on a fantastic read. Come on book 2.

A wet tongue licking her nose woke Francesca from a lovely dream in which she was making out with Sean. A hot, sexy and knowing lover, he’d almost taken her to the ultimate peak. Hating to let go of the fragile threads to her fantasy, Francesca had no choice. The tongue had turned into tiny teeth and they were nipping at her chin.
She gathered the puppy into her arms and soothed him with caresses. Then she looked at the body lying way over on the far side of the mattress. Sean’s back was turned to her and she listened to his breathing.
“You’re awake.”
The man rolled over to face her. “Sweetie has been crying since I put you to bed and crawled in myself. He wouldn’t shut up, until I finally picked him up and put him beside you.”
Francesca spat out the strand of her hair caught between her lips. She gathered the unruly mass, twisted it and pushed it away from her face. The pillows lifted her high enough to read the clock and she noted it wasn’t yet morning. Rousing slowly, she realised she still wore her sundress and her cover was a throw blanket from the closet.
Embarrassment took over. Despite the fact that she hated to apologise, Francesca didn’t hesitate when it became necessary. “I’m sorry for passing out. I don’t drink very often. I can’t seem to hold my liquor very well.”
Turning her way, he bent his arm and put his head on his hand. “You can’t hold your liquor at all. I’m surprised what came out of your mouth before you slid out of the chair.”
Terror took hold. She laid her head down on the puffy pillow and stared into the darkness. “What did I say?”
“Mostly about how you always wanted a puppy but the Snow Queen wouldn’t let you have one. Then you ranted about how children need mommies and daddies, and it was a crime against nature if a mommy didn’t even tell a daddy there was going to be a baby.”
“Oh!”
“Not all. You went into detail about how mommies should love their babies more than anything else in the whole wide, wide wor—”
“Stop! I get it. I was deplorable and boring.”
“No, your pain tore my heart out, and all I wanted to do was beat Mommy with a stick and kiss you better.” He slid close to her, lifted the now sleepy puppy over to his side and took her in his arms. “What were you dreaming about?”
Shyly, she let her finger trace his perfectly-shaped eyebrow. “Why do you ask?”
“Lady, once I put you to bed, I thought nothing could keep me awake tonight. Then I heard your moaning. It nearly had me crawlin’ the walls.”
She chuckled low, hiding her glee since the joke was on him. “I can’t tell you.” No way would she admit that they had been having hot sex in her dream, and the sounds had been in appreciation for what his hands had been doing.
“So…did my performance satisfy you?” He kissed her cheek, then pulled back to wait.
Feeling her eyes widen before she could curb the move, she asked, “How did you know?”
“You called my name. Then you moaned. Then you laughed and moaned again. I’ve been lying here worried about that laugh.”
She rose to kiss his cheek in the same way he’d put his lips to hers. “Are you that insecure?”
“Not usually. But then women don’t normally laugh when I make love to them.”
“Let me assure you, I wasn’t laughing at your performance.” Another kiss followed, and this time she moved closer to his lips.
“Please tell me it had nothing to do with the size of any body parts.” Faked horror made her laugh softly.
As if that sound brought back memories, he reacted. Not waiting for her reply, he swooped in, the naked warmth of his arms and chest surrounding her. Once again she fell under a spell as his kiss reignited the earlier flames.
Soft tongue, yielding lips and a sucking rhythm guaranteed her investiture in his caresses, to the point where every thought fled and only emotion survived. Shivery and loving the sensation, Francesca engaged in giving as well as taking. Her arms circled his neck, and she filtered her fingers through his hair and then then stroked his back.
Pulling her blanket aside, Sean leaned back long enough to lower the tiny straps on the sundress now twined around her waist and upper thighs. “Here, let’s get that off of you.”
She helped him and loved the grin that lit his face when he saw her naked breasts. His eyes zeroed in on hers and the sultry gleam caught her in its strength. She found herself being pulled in, swirling, her pulse now crazy and her breath uneven. Unable to deal with such intensity, she lowered her lashes and arched her body.
Trailing his lips from her mouth, to her neck, up near her ears and back down over her breast-mounds, he licked and softly bit her hungry skin. Nearing the outer side of her breast he hit the one spot on her body that tickled. Her giggle stopped him. Full of devilment, he leaned back. “So that’s what made you laugh?”
Biting her lips to stop the merriment, she nodded. “It tickles.”
Movement to her left caught her attention and she shifted. While the puppy growled his dislike of their activities, he began to circle. Then he squatted and let loose.
“No, stop!” Lunging, Francesca tried to get to him, but having Sean’s body partially covering hers left her no wiggle room.
Sean’s face landed on her chest and the moan that rumbled through his body made had her start laughing again. “Macho-man’s just a baby.”
Sean got out of the bed and slid on his pants. Then he lifted the shivery pup and placed him on top of the towel bed he’d made for him earlier. Dawn was breaking and the room was light enough for them to be able to make out the larger than expected wet stain.
Francesca couldn’t stop herself. “The puddle’s on your side, Sean. Kinda looks suspicious don’t you think?” Typically, teasing didn’t come easy to her. But with this man, it seemed to fit. When he smirked, worry emerged and made her listen.
“Sorry, sweetheart. The room’s registered to only one person. You!”
