EARN YOUR EXTRA CREDIT by Meghan Quinn

Release Date: April 15th

Genre: Contemporary Romance

“She went home with someone else that night?”

Hearing the disbelief from my best friend’s mouth makes the events of my failed date sting that much more.

I would like to make it known, I have a lot more swagger than what it seems. I don’t normally ask a girl out, have her fail to recognize it’s a date, and then give me a high five–as if I’m her wingman–and take off with someone else.

No. Normally I’m the one taking the girl home but with Stella, it’s been one failed attempt after another and frankly, I’m done trying.

But thanks to my best friend getting married in Hawaii right before the school year starts, I’m stuck on a tropical island, watching Stella parade around in what she claims is a bathing suit.

Unfortunately, that’s not the worst of it, just the tip of the iceberg. Because what I think is going to be a relaxing vacation, avoiding the one girl I can’t seem to make it work with, has turned into a spectacle of being recruited as Stella’s doting fake fiancé so she can save face with an old “friend” from high school.

Now I’m navigating through purgatory while trying not to get turned on by the way she holds my hand or kisses my jaw. It’s all fake, that’s what I keep telling myself, even though it feels entirely too real.

Oops, I’ve Fallen by Max Monroe Blog Tour with Excerpt

OOPS, I’VE FALLEN, a hilarious new opposites attract standalone romantic comedy from New York Times Bestselling Author, Max Monroe, is available now! Scroll down for an excerpt!

Tell me…what lyric rhymes with Oops, I’ve fallen for my future stepbrother?

If my time with Ryan Miller were a hit track on the radio, I imagine the lyrics would go something like this…

“We’re so different, but they say opposites attract. Oops, I’ve fallen, and my heart doesn’t want to come back.”

But, holy bingo night, is my attraction to the sexy, broody businessman so much more complicated than the chorus of a song.

His dad lives right next to my mom, and after the two of them suffered an unexplained accident while taking down holiday decorations, both Ryan and I were forced to become the only thirtysomething residents of Sunny Creek Village Independent Senior Living Community.

Temporarily moving in might seem like overkill for a fractured tailbone and a severely pulled groin muscle, but believe me, when your mom is as wild as mine and your dad is as cantankerous as Ryan’s, they need supervision to ensure they stick to doctor’s orders.

Constantly thrown together by the antics of our crazy parents and the tough-as-nails community enforcer, Betty Matthews, Ryan and I formed an alliance for the sole purpose of survival.

But I never expected to be so interested in finding out what he was hiding beneath his grumpy, serious demeanor. More than that, I never dreamed what I found would be the kind of man women sell their souls to the devil for.

Unfortunately, our little one-hit wonder on the airwaves has more to say before it comes to an end.

Although, finishing the outro to this song is a real doozy…

EXCERPT:

RYAN

Incoming Call Dad.

I’m tempted not to answer—very tempted, actually—but I do anyway. There’s a chance he needs me, given the circumstances of my visit in the first place, and I don’t want to leave him hanging.

“Hey, Dad.”

“Where are you?”

“Baggage claim.”

“Baggage claim where?”

“Tampa.”

“What the hell, Ryan?” he bellows, making me close my eyes against the speech I know is coming. “I told you I’m good. You didn’t need to come here.”

“Yeah, well, your nurse said otherwise.”

“My nurse?” he questions. “Who? That old woman Jessica?”

“Old woman?” I retort on a laugh. “She was younger than you, Dad. By about twenty years.”

I had the pleasure of speaking to my dad’s nurse Jessica on FaceTime last night when I got a call that he had taken some sort of strange fall and had been escorted to the hospital in an ambulance.

“Whatever. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about.”

“Actually, she does,” I correct. “And so does your doctor, who also recommended that I come down and help you out while you’re recovering.”

“Recovering.” He scoffs. “You’d think I had a heart attack or some shit. I pulled a muscle in my damn balls.”

I shut my eyes briefly. “Groin muscle, Dad. You pulled your groin muscle.”

“Same difference.”

I want to explain to him there’s a big difference, but in the name of not driving myself insane—or drawing the attention of everyone around me—I bite my tongue.

“Go home.”

“Too late for that. I’m already here,” I answer on a chuckle and step up to the carousel to snag my black duffel from it.

He groans. “You’re my least favorite kid sometimes.”

I shake my head. “I’m your only kid, Dad.”

“Yeah, and I like you the least right now.”

I snort. Sal Miller is a seriously complex mix of blunt honesty, overwhelming affection, and way too much testosterone for a seventy-five-year-old man. The good news is that when he sounds like he’s being an asshole, I still know that behind all the flashy insults, he loves me. “Hey, Dad?”

“What?”

“I’ll see you soon,” I say and hang up the phone before he can respond.

I scrub a hand down my face and take a deep breath. It’s moments like this that make me realize how much shit my mom had to put up with when she was still alive.

Mom, seriously, you were a saint.

With my duffel over my shoulder and my small carry-on rolling behind me, I walk out of the baggage claim area and toward the taxi line.

Normally, I’d rent a car, but since I had to book this flight so last minute and there’s apparently some kind of end-of-summer festival going on in downtown Tampa, there were no rentals available.

Hopefully, though, I’ll be able to arrange something tomorrow. Or else, I’ll have to cruise around in my dad’s Porsche while I’m here.

Not such a terrible fate for me, personally, but as far as taking him places with an injury to his damn groin muscle, I’m thinking his late-life-crisis Porsche won’t be ideal.

Once I make my way through the automatic doors, I spot the taxi line and count only three people in front of me. Not too bad.

While I stand in line, I pull my phone back out of my pocket and start scrolling through work emails. In just the short flight from New York to Tampa—two and a half hours, tops—my inbox has managed to accumulate over forty emails. Since the small regional plane didn’t offer Wi-Fi, I had to settle for working on my end-of-quarter reports.

On a sigh, I run my hand through my dark-brown hair and begin the task of sifting through what’s priority and what’s not.

Five emails done and the taxi line gets smaller by one person.

Another ten emails and the line gets shorter again.

By the time I reach the front, I slide my phone into my pocket and wait patiently as I spot a black taxi heading my way. The driver pulls the cab to a stop right in front of me, but just as I lift my duffel up and over my shoulder to carry it to the trunk, a rush of bright red careens past me.

“Oh, thank you so much!” a female voice calls toward the male driver who has just gotten out of the driver’s side to assist with bags.

But he shouldn’t be helping with her bags.

He should be helping with my bags.

What the fuck?

“Uh, excuse me?” I question loud enough to catch her attention.

She looks up from her spot at the trunk. Her long, wavy red hair fans down her shoulders, and a few rogue curls hang over her face. Bright-blue eyes meet mine, and I can’t stop my brain from thinking, Well, goddamn.

Smooth skin, striking features, and a few freckles dotting her nose, she’s…stunning. The kind of woman that urges a double and triple take. Between her gorgeous face and the way her long legs look beneath her cutoff jean shorts, this woman is like the girl next door, but with secrets.

Dirty fucking secrets.

“Were you talking to me?” she questions, tilting her head to the side when I don’t answer right away.

Shit. Get it together.

Those blue eyes of hers are still locked with mine, searching them in confusion.

“Uh…yeah…actually,” I say, clearing my throat. I glance between the taxi and the taxi line. “You’re kind of stealing my taxi.”

“I am?”

I smirk. “Yeah.”

“Did you call him yourself?”

My head jerks back in surprise. “Well, no, but—”

“So, you don’t know this driver?” she questions, looking between the driver and me. “Do you know him—” she pauses briefly, then asks “—what’s your name, sir?”

“Bob.”

She smiles at him. “Bob, do you know this man?”

“No.” The driver shakes his head.

“I didn’t call him,” I explain on a sigh. “But I followed the rules and waited in this taxi line like everyone else.”

“You follow the rules a lot?” she asks, and I don’t know what to make of her question.

It sounds dirty and sexy yet sarcastic and accusatory at the same time.

“Don’t most people?”

“I don’t.” She winks. “But you keep doing you, Barney Fife. The town of Mayberry needs you.”

Okay, she definitely just passive-aggressively called me a square.

“So, you’re just going to steal my taxi, then?” I question and glance over my shoulder to note the other people waiting in line like myself, but I quickly realize I’m the only one standing here. It doesn’t matter, though. My point is still valid.

“Well, I guess that depends.”

“On what?”

“Are you going to fight me for it?”

Excuse me?

“Am I going to fight you for the taxi?”

She nods.

“Um, no,” I answer on a laugh. What a weird fucking question. “I don’t make a huge habit of fighting women.”

“Okay then, I guess the answer to your question is yes, then.” She nods. Winks. Taps her hand on the top of the taxi. “Let’s hit it, Bob.”

Bob looks between me and the redhead, who is now getting into of the back seat of his taxi. But eventually, he just shrugs and hops back into the driver’s seat.

Then they’re off. Just like that.

And I don’t miss the way the mysterious, taxi-stealing redhead turns around in her seat to wave to me as they go or the fact that I’m feeling a lot less attuned to how pretty she is.

Her manners are apparently very, very ugly.

What in the hell just happened?

REVIEW:

Between fanning myself, swooning and howling with laughter, Max Monroe has given me hours upon hours of entertainment. Oops, I’ve Fallen is their latest romcom, and it is one heck of a hot and humorous ride.

I absolutely loved Ryan and Carly right from their memorable first meeting. Carly, a ski shop owner and instructor in Vail, rushed to Florida to help her mother while she healed following a fall. Ryan, a VP in the insurance industry in NY, was heading to Florida to help his dad while he recovered from a fall. I loved Carly—she was wild and free-spirited, a firecracker with a backbone. Ryan was a rule-following, suit-and-tie-wearing hottie with a bit of a take-charge (*wiggles eyebrows*) streak. I was laughing my way through their adventures and antics in Florida as they cared for their parents, the senior citizen it-couple of their retirement community, as they recovered from their interestingly acquired injuries. The attraction blazing between them was sizzling hot, and their back-and-forth bantering was its own form of foreplay. I just couldn’t get enough of Ryan and Carly – or Sal and Stella! The more they got to know each other, the harder they fell, and I absolutely loved how much Ryan grew and changed as the story progressed.

Oops, I’ve Fallen was a fun, feisty and fiery opposites attract romcom. Witty repartee and sizzling chemistry fuel the build-up of Ryan and Carly’s relationship, and I spent the day with my Kindle in hand practically inhaling this addictive and hilarious story! Five smooches from me for Oops, I’ve Fallen by Max Monroe!

REVIEW:

Kristy Bromberg has given her readers something truly special in the Play Hard series of sports romances. Centered on four sports agent sisters, she dove into the worlds of professional hockey, soccer, football and baseball. In the fourth standalone book of this incredible series, readers get the youngest sister, Chase Kincade, and Ryan ‘Gunner’ Camden’s story. Their story pulled me in from the prologue, and it was the kind of story I just didn’t want to stop reading—and I literally got frustrated when I had to put it down.

This story was emotional in every sense of the word, and Bromberg sets that stage from the start. Gunner, a talented baseball player, lets go of his dream of playing professional baseball in order to serve his country. His story is devastating, and my heart broke for this man and the guilt, grief and heart-ache he carries with him every day. Chase is professionally focused and extremely driven, and while she’s had much success in her career, her love life is another story. She’s been betrayed, both professionally and romantically, by the man she loved. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he’s in the same field and someone she has to contend with from time-to-time. Chase may not have gone into the situation with Gunner intending to deceive him, but she quickly found herself sliding down the slippery slope of her lie.

I loved every single word of Hard to Lose. The plot was unexpected, the premise was fresh and heartrending, and Gunner and Chase’s romance was heart-racing, steamy and romantic. Rich with powerful emotion, blazing with heat and passion, I simply did not want to put it down. I felt all the feels and sobbed so many tears as I devoured it. I loved these characters, I loved their story, and Kristy positively gutted me with the depth of emotion in Chase and Gunner’s love story. Five stars from me for Hard to Lose by K. Bromberg!

REVIEW:

I love a good second-chance romance, especially when some sort of a reunion is involved. I also really love hockey romances, and Kendall Ryan’s The Rebel is an engaging blend of these two favorite tropes of mine. Ryan is no stranger to hockey romances, and I loved her entire Hot Jocks series. The Rebel kicks off the Looking to Score series, and Kendall is off to a strong start with the first book. A sexy sports romance with just enough angsty emotion to keep me invested, I was really looking forward this book, and Kendall did not let me down. She set the bar high with this sizzling second-chance romance, and she introduced a whole new crew of endearing hockey players whose stories I can’t wait to get my hands on.

Holt stole my heart from the start. He was broody, moody and so perceptive, and he had a serious crush on Eden, the daughter of the governor and a girl he considered way out of his league. Eden may have been born into wealth, but she wasn’t without her own problems. For one precious night back in college, she and Holt bridged that gap before she moved on to a long-term relationship with a cocky hockey player named Alex.

Fast-forward six years after graduation, a freshly single Eden is mourning the sudden loss of her beloved grandfather while taking over the reins of his professional hockey team. Unfortunately, the fans, sports bloggers and reporters aren’t exactly thrilled that a young, single woman is now heading up their favorite team, and there have been threats and protests. Holt and Eden are reunited when he is brought in to head up security for Eden and her hockey team.

Eden still feels the connection they made that night, but her focus is on the team and on trying to fill her grandfather’s shoes. The sizzling chemistry between the two of them is hard to ignore, and despite both their best efforts to fight it, they slowly give in to the inevitable. I loved Holt’s patient persistence, and his unwavering support of Eden as she found her footing in the male-dominated world of professional hockey.

The Rebel  was emotional, passionate and unputdownable pleasure-reading. With a swoon-worthy hero and a hard-working heroine coming into her own, it was full of heart-string-pulling emotion and a smoking hot, slow-building romance. The Rebel by Kendall Ryan gets 5 smooches from me!

MIDNIGHT IN PARIS MEETS THE MUSEUM!

Everything you love about Lauren Blakely’s books—with a twist—you’ll fall in love with The Muse! Grab this full-length, swoony, gorgeous standalone romance now!

The first time a woman stepped out of a painting, I thought I was seeing things.

The second time, I thought I was going mad.

The night she emerged from a Renoir, I felt something else entirely — a deep stirring of desire, and the wish to get to know the brilliant beauty who’s been trapped inside a painted garden for years.

She can only come out at night in the Musée d’Orsay, where I work. There, after hours, we wander through galleries, with the Van Goghs, the Monets, and the Toulouse Lautrecs the only witnesses to our midnight kisses and, soon, our trysts.

She opens her heart to me, and I learn her story.

But she keeps secrets too, ones I hope to unravel. Why she was trapped. Why Renoir is hunting her. And why artwork in famous museums across the world is starting to disintegrate.

Why I, too, seem to be the only person who can repair the masterpieces.

As I fall deeper for the woman who’s trapped in a museum, I’m caught up in another side of Paris after dark, one inhabited by forgers, ghosts of famous artists and, impossibly, by Muses.

But someone is after the woman I’m falling in love with, and it’s up to me to save her…even if it means losing everything I’ve found with her.

The Muse by Lauren Blakely Review

5 SMOOCHES!

SYNOPSIS:

REVIEW:

As a long-time Lauren Blakely fan, it’s a given that if she writes it, I’m going to read it. What I am not, or at least not typically, is a reader of paranormal romance. But this is Lauren Blakely, so with an open mind, I dove into The Muse, and am I ever glad that I did. I’ve stated in previous reviews for both this author, and others, that I love when an author steps out of their comfort zone and tries something new. Even if the result isn’t my new favorite story from them, I appreciate that fact that they tried something new and different because in my opinion, that’s how authors grow and hone their craft, and eventually all that growth and honing is going to payoff for me as the reader in new stories. The Muse is Blakely’s first foray into PNR, and again, while not my preferred genre, I enjoyed the heck out of this captivating romantic mystery.

For the record, I’d also like to mention that if Lauren Blakely is writing a story set in Paris, read the story. Her affection for the City of Lights is evident in every word, every detail and the care with which she tells these stories. The Muse, centered around the glittering jewels of this city—the Louvre and the Musée d’Orsay—was a particularly consuming tale. Unusual paranormal elements, a plot rich in mystery and intrigue, and some seriously fascinating characters blend fluidly in this emotional, ethereal love story.

I don’t want to give too much away! I believe this is the kind of story that the reader needs to savor, that should be experienced as it organically unfolds, but hands down, The Muse is Blakely’s most unique and imaginative story to date. Once I started it, I couldn’t put it down, and I switched off between the digital and audio books. Shane East was brilliant as Julien, and his narration of this story was riveting and wonderful. I literally gasped hearing Siri Scott as Clio, because in my mind, that was how I heard her. Unlike anything I’ve read from Blakely, or anyone else, before, she strode right on into the paranormal romance genre and owned it. Truly original, this was a story that was romantic and sultry, full of surprise and seduction, and I was positively enchanted and hanging on every word from prologue to epilogue. Five smooches from me for The Muse by Lauren Blakely!
