Us by Elle Kennedy and Sarina Bowen Review

5 Smooches

Synopsis
Five months in, NHL forward Ryan Wesley is having a record-breaking rookie season. He’s living his dream of playing pro hockey and coming home every night to the man he loves–Jamie Canning, his longtime best friend turned boyfriend. There’s just one problem: the most important relationship of his life is one he needs to keep hidden, or else face a media storm that will eclipse his success on the ice.
Jamie loves Wes. He really, truly does. But hiding sucks. It’s not the life Jamie envisioned for himself, and the strain of keeping their secret is taking its toll. It doesn’t help that his new job isn’t going as smoothly as he’d hoped, but he knows he can power through it as long as he has Wes. At least apartment 10B is their retreat, where they can always be themselves.
Or can they? When Wes’s nosiest teammate moves in upstairs, the threads of their carefully woven lie begin to unravel. With the outside world determined to take its best shot at them, can Wes and Jamie develop major-league relationship skills on the fly?
Review
‘I love his lips. They’re firm and hungry. They’re magic.’
I ADORED Him and was both nervous and excited to get and start Us. Typically I am not a huge fan of follow up books where the couple is already together. They tend to be low angst and mostly about getting married and having babies and those are just not my favorite sort of book. So, when I saw that Us was once again about Jamie and Wes I was a little apprehensive. But I had absolutely no reason to be. This was exactly the way a sequel should be written.
“Get up here, then. Show the beard who’s boss.”
Wes and Jamie are living together and growing in their careers but have agreed to keep the relationship on the down low while Wes plays his rookie season. Sounds easy enough but before long all the secrecy, distance apart and normal relationship troubles are creating a divide that neither wants to be there. They have to find a way to learn to adapt to their new reality or this perfect coupling might now last.
‘I don’t know how to make things better. I love this guy, I really do. But I didn’t anticipate how hard this would be.’
Us has just reaffirmed that I am head over heals in love with Jamie and Wes. They are not perfect and face many challenges but they love deeply and truly. Between the tense moments, sweet ramblings, hilarious quips and supremely hot sex US was a pleasure to read. I could not put the book down. Several new secondary characters were introduced and I have my fingers crossed that this magic duo of writers has plans for at least two of them. I have no doubt that no matter if the book is m/m or m/f Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy are a writing force that cannot be stopped.
