Synopsis

He’s the most dangerous man she’s ever met…and she’s falling in love with him.

Madison Frost is desperate to escape her life. Daughter of a prominent businessman, she has everything a girl could ask for. Except for a family who’s present in her life, and anyone to talk to outside the four walls of the prison she calls home. Madison dreams of one day leaving her life behind. She never thought being kidnapped is how it would happen.

Now she’s being held captive by a man who’s as frightening as he is sinfully gorgeous. Enormous, muscular, and filled with secrets, the man they call Ghost is an enigmatic mercenary, and Madison is trapped with him. She doesn’t know who hired him or why, but the more time she spends at his mercy, the more she realizes he’s not what he seems. Beneath his rough exterior lies an unexpected gentleness and a heart as broken and battered as her own.

But as Madison lets down her walls, Ghost holds tight to his, hiding secrets that could destroy everything.

Review

“He was too much. Too large, too tall, too muscled. Even completely silent, he screamed.”

Captive is my very first Brighton Walsh book and WOW what a way to meet a new to you author. When the advanced copy showed up at my door I was apprehensive but excited to try someone new. Reading the blurb I was convinced that I was going into a Stockholm Syndrome book for the new adult audience. What I got was so much more!

“I had a millisecond to make a choice.

Run or stay.

Run or stay.

Run or stay.

Run.”

From the outside looking in Madison has the perfect life you would think a twenty year old rich girl would have. This is exactly the perception Ghosts has when he kidnaps and holds captive Madison. He is convinced she is a spoiled and entitled girl who doesn’t have any worries or cares. After being forced into close quarters with her for several days he learns that she has many real problems and worries (not including the fact that she was just kidnapped) Ghost has been attracted to her lush curves (ones she herself is ashamed of and wished would go away) but soon he finds himself drawn to the person she is and the man she sees in him.

“He cupped my face, pulling me closer to him as he opened his mouth to me, slid his tongue against mine. It was everything I’d ever imagined and yet nothing I’d ever experienced.”

Madison was a heroine was refreshing. She has body issues like us all and was vocal about them. She loved the way Ghost saw her and wants to see herself like that too. While her body issues made her feel real her determination and strength to make it through this situation made her admirable. She never just gave up, whether in regular life, a forced extreme situation or moving past a devastating life event she always pushes forward and never looks back. For me she felt like she was constantly evolving and growing and I love that in my younger characters because that is what that age is all about.

“You sure about that? Because I’m rough, Madison. I’m not gentle.”

Ghost was scary and gentle, loving and closed off. There was so much to love about my (yes my because I am claiming him for myself) tall, tatted sexy bad guy. While he hasn’t always made the best choices he has never regretted any of them and until he met Madison never even questioned them. He was perfect parts gentle with her and rough. He knew when to give her space and when to push her harder. On top of that he was supremely sexy and panty melting hot.

“I wanted her now. Fuck the circumstances and our differences and the secrets I was harboring. Fuck everything else.”

Dark romances are often hit or miss with me. If they go to far they turn a corner that is not sexy or appealing to me and if they don’t push you enough they can be boring. Captive has a great flow and just enough action and intensity to keep me turning the page and the chemistry between Madison and Ghost was OFF THE CHARTS. Having never read Brighton before I had no clue if this book would be sexy at all or if it was just fade to black. I decided going in blind without reading any reviews would be the best course of action so when I found out that this book in addition to be a captivating read was also burn-the house-down HOT I was pleasantly surprised and excited.

“I realized I’d walk to hell and back if it meant she’d get out of this unscathed. If it meant I could keep her safe, even if it caused my demise.”

If you love a book that will keep you guess and a plot twist that leaves you saying WHAT??? along with a insanely sexy couple then this is a good read for you. I,myself, have fallen in love with Brighton’s writing and I am looking forward to working my way through her backlist of books in the very near future.
