Synopsis

Positive. With two little lines on a pregnancy test, everything in Lizzy Rollins’ ordinary life is about to change forever. And all because of one big mistake in Vegas with Ben Nicholson, the irresistibly sexy bass player for Stage Dive. So what if Ben’s the only man she’s ever met who can make her feel completely safe, cherished, and out of control with desire at the same time? Lizzy knows the gorgeous rock star isn’t looking for anything more permanent than a good time, no matter how much she wishes differently.

Ben knows Lizzy is off limits. Completely and utterly. She’s his best friend’s little sister now, and no matter how hot the chemistry is between them, no matter how sweet and sexy she is, he’s not going to go there. But when Ben is forced to keep the one girl he’s always had a weakness for out of trouble in Sin City, he quickly learns that what happens in Vegas, doesn’t always stay there. Now he and Lizzie are connected in the deepest way possible…but will it lead to a connection of the heart?

Review

“I’d been done with him. Finished. Kaput. My uterus apparently did not agree.”

Is there any better way to start off the final book in this series than with a surprise unplanned pregnancy amongst two flirty friends? I personally don’t think so. Anyone who, like me, has been a fan of these books from the beginning knows two things about Ben, first he is a mystery and guarded and two he does not want a relationship or a family. Well Ben, good luck with that!

“So I’d been knocked up by a rock star. Big Deal.”

We start this book finding out that Lizzy, Anne’s little sister (remember that detail because boy is it important) is the big PREGGO. Can you guess who the daddy is, yup BEN! Lizzy is a young college kid and being a mom at this age was definitely not on her radar. But two months after Ben finally gave into her advances and they shared ONE night that is exactly where she is.

“I’d happily stand and stare at Ben Nicholson for hours. Days. Weeks. One of those big hands ran over his short hair and I swear my sex wept in gratitude at the sight. I was out of control. If he fondled his beard I might faint.”

We quickly flash back 2 months to Lizzy’s sister Anne and Mal’s Vegas wedding. And this is where all the fun starts. How fitting is it that the series starts with a mistake in Vegas and ends their too. Ben and Lizzy were friends, texting friends, with Mal warning him off and their age difference it was decided that was all they ever would be. Until that wasn’t enough. Can these two recover from this and be friends again and co-parents to this baby that is arriving soon?

“The feeling of a man’s beard brushing against your private parts cannot be adequately explained in words.”

Ben Nicholson like’s his life as it is. He is the only member of the band able to take off on a whim or jam all night. He answers to no one and has no one holding him down. That is what he has always wanted and when he finds out that their is a baby on the way he does not handle it as well as we all would hope. Ben felt real to me. It would be lovely if all book boyfriends found out the girl was pregnant and immediately proposed and settled down. Lovely but boring. Ben is neither of those things, while he is honorable and would never leave Lizzy and the baby stranded he also is not ready to settle down like the others. He is confused and scared and while does everything financially he can to make their life good emotionally he isn’t there.

“This guy and me, we were doomed from the start.”

I am not gonna lie, Ben broke my heart for a lot of this book, but in reality looking back I think for the growth of the character that was necessary. My heart ached for Lizzy. She is 21 and alone. Her sister, while there for her, is off living a perfect life with the guy of her dreams and Lizzy is stuck behind trying to figure out where to go in life from here. She doesn’t want to inconvenience anyone and needs to prove to herself and others that she can do this. For most of her life Lizzy has been looked after by Anne and now it is her turn to be the one watching out for another’s well-being.

“No touching yourself, getting you off is my job now. You need me, call. Get to you as soon as I can, okay?”

Kylie Scott blends stories that pull on your heart strings with dynamic characters and wit so well written that you want to quote it all. It was impossible to put this book down and I am already gearing myself up for an entire series re-read. While I find that her men are some of my absolute favorite book boyfriends that have cause many a fight amongst my fellow readers as we all want to claim them as ours, it is her strong and relatable women who make her series an absolute must read. Kylie’s heroines are not perfect looking nor do they always do as expected of them, they are free thinkers and not afraid to speak up for themselves. We need more female characters like these in our books.

“You and Bean are mine, and I look after what’s mine.”

While I am sad that this series is over I find that I am anxious to see what new and exciting things Kylie has planned for us. I know without a doubt anything she writes will be amazing and  myself and many like me will eagerly and anxiously be counting the days till we can discover a whole new crew of amazing characters.
