Synopsis

A scarred fighter.
A girl with rules.
One night of unbridled passion.

There are three things you need to know about Elizabeth Bennett: she’s smart as a whip, always in control, and lives by a set of carefully crafted rules. She’s learned the hard way that people you love the most always hurt you in the end.

But then she meets Declan Blay, the new neighbor at her apartment complex.

A tattooed British street fighter, he’s the campus bad boy she’s supposed to avoid, but when he saves her from a frat party gone bad, all her rules about sex and love fly out the window.

She gives him one night of unbridled passion, but he longs for more.

With only a cardboard-thin wall separating their bedrooms, he dreams of possessing the vulnerable girl next door forever.

One night. Two damaged hearts. The passion of a lifetime.

*a modern love story inspired by Pride and Prejudice*

Review

Let’s just start this review by stating that I am a huge fan of Ilsa Madden-Mills and her books and this book far exceeded my expectations. This is Ilsa’s first real venture outside of her Briarcrest Academy series and she proves that she can write a hot and exciting MMA fighter romance and I am more excited than ever to see what she gives us in the future.

“Loving Declan was like the rain storms I loved to dance in. Crazy and unpredictable, sometimes turbulent, sometimes gentle. I didn’t know if I was going to be struck by lightning, but one thing was for sure, I wanted him anyway.”

Elizabeth Bennett is a girl who has been hurt and is living her life the only way she can keep her body and her heart safe. She keeps to herself and her close friends and works hard on school and her jewelry line and when the urge arises she takes a man home for a hot night that will never get repeated. She doesn’t do relationships, she doesn’t get close and she doesn’t do love. Then she met Declan Blay and he challenges her is every way possible.

‘His touch was sexual. Yet it wasn’t. It was simply more, and I was terrified to put a name to it.’

Declan Blay is one half of the sexy British twin duo that I am head over heels in love with. Together with his brother Dax they are melting panties and breaking hearts all over the university. But after meeting the girl who has caught his eye around campus before and he is done for. He tries to stay away knowing she deserves more than he has to offer. But sometimes chemistry is just too strong. These two were meant for each other and no matter what their brains try to tell them their hearts know the truth.

“My heart is not easily mended,” I whispered. “And you – you have the potential to rip it apart permanently.”

Declan and Elizabeth stole my heart. The subtle moments of them connecting were done beautifully and had me both tearing up and smiling joyfully. Declan was sweet and kind yet manly and strong. A beautiful and complex man who has been though a lot in his life but knows that the pain he has suffered has been nothing compared to Elizabeth and he is determined to never let her feel pain like that again. I adored him and the way he gives the room she needs to heal herself without allowing her to run from what is happening between them. Plus . . . you know . . . British accent! WHy that is still so sexy in book form I do not know but it totally is!

“You need to stop looking at me like that if you don’t want me to kiss you, Elizabeth.” “God, please, kiss me.”

Ilsa Madden-Mills has delivered another hit. Inspired by my all time favorite book, Pride and Prejudice, Dirty English gives great homage to the classic without being just another copy.  Understated references to the original will make any Jane Austin fan giddy while the unique story of Elizabeth and Declan still feels fresh and new. This is one of the best books she has written and makes me extremely excited to read whatever she has planned next. Complex and still classic this New Adult Fighter book is a wonderful story that you will not  be able to put down.
