Synopsis

A sizzling story of a woman who risks her life and her heart to find a wealthy man’s missing sister—the first novel in a sexy new romantic suspense series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Maya Banks

When Caleb Devereaux’s younger sister is kidnapped, this scion of a powerful and wealthy family turns to an unlikely source for help: a beautiful and sensitive woman with a gift for finding answers others cannot.

While Ramie can connect to victims and locate them by feeling their pain, her ability comes with a price. Every time she uses it, it costs her a piece of herself. Helping the infuriatingly attractive and impatient Caleb successfully find his sister nearly destroys her. Even though his sexual intensity draws her like a magnet, she needs to get as far away from him as she can.

Deeply remorseful for the pain he’s caused, Caleb is determined to make things right. But just when he thinks Ramie’s vanished forever, she reappears. She’s in trouble and she needs his help. Now, Caleb will risk everything to protect her—including his heart. . . .

Review

“I’m coming back, Ramie. Count on it. I’ll make this up to you if it’s the very last thing I do.”

Having only read a few Maya Banks’ book in the past, I’ll be honest and say I went into this book expecting it to be a lot smuttier and sexier than it was. While it was still sexy I was pleased to see that the main focus of this book was the suspense part of the romantic suspense. This boo was like a wonderful paranormal crime drama and love story all rolled together. Without going in too deep into the plot (for fear of giving away spoilers) Caleb forces Ramie to use her powers to help find his kidnapped sister with no thought as to what doing this will do to her. After he sees the devastating effects that using her power has on her he is determined to come back to her and make it up to her.

“I am a big boy. I can take a hell of a lot when it’s something I want.”

But Ramie is on the run from another with powers. One who is evil and can get inside her head. Once Caleb finds her he is set on the idea of keeping her safe and soon the idea of making her his. I won’t go into more of what happen but let me tell you that you will be on the edge of your seat trying to figure this one out and how it will end. I loved the whole plot and while reading it I felt like a movie was playing out in my head.

“Get used to being in my bed because that’s where you’re going to sleep from now on.”

Now, I made the mistake of reading some other reviews online of this book and one of the main issues I came across was that Ramie was weak. I don’t know about others but I like variety in my books and that means I do not want all my heroines to be super strong kick ass women. Sometimes the things that happen in a person’s life can lead them to the conclusion that running is an option. If you know you might not come out of a fight alive wouldn’t you run. Also, her special gift is amazing but every time she uses it she loses a piece of her soul. If I went through everything she went through not only would I be meek and somewhat scared of everything in life I would be severely depressed and untrusting of everyone. I honestly felt that Ramie’s personality fit the life she lead and the trials she faced. After reading this book the only thing I can say is I wish it was a bit longer with even more focus on the development of the romantic relationship between Caleb and Ramie. I loved their passion for each other and would have loved to see even more of it. Keep Me Safe has definitely made me want to give more Maya Banks’ books a try!
