Synopsis

I had the perfect life.

The perfect husband. Colin Cassidy—the incredibly talented, extremely gorgeous, and unbelievably humble star NFL quarterback.

The perfect marriage. Our bond was unbreakable. His support unwavering.

The perfect career. As the recently-appointed executive director for the Boston chapter of Mending Hearts, a child abuse prevention and treatment program, my daily reward was helping to keep vulnerable, innocent children from being preyed upon and destroyed. It’s all I’d wanted to do since I was a teenager.

Perfect city. Perfect car. Perfect house with the perfect view.

From the outside looking in, it was impossible to find a single flaw in my life. I had it all. Everything I’d ever wanted.

But that kind of perfection came at a price. Demanded the ultimate sacrifice.

What happened when I discovered what I’d been missing all along? When I began to question if the lies were worth protecting?

What if suddenly the last thing I wanted was to be perfect?

Genre: MC Romance

Release Date: March 3, 2016

Photographer: Furious Fotog

Griffin Storm wasn’t prone to violence, but when someone takes what Griffin holds dear, the world as he knows it is gone.

Retaliation, revenge and rage fuels him. His MC, The Uncertain Saint’s, do their best to offer support, but Griffin is beyond redemption. He’ll do what he has to do. Kill who he has to kill.

He doesn’t care if that means he dies. If it gets him what he wants, then it’s worth it.

He fakes it all until the night he walks into a sex shop for batteries and lays eyes on a woman that will change his life.

Lenore makes him think past tomorrow. Makes him want to see just what the future might bring.

But his life’s a dangerous one built around pain and deception, and not for the faint of heart.

He won’t give up the past, not until he’s done what he promised to do.

And if that means she’s not there when the dust settles, he’ll risk it.

Lenore, though, won’t give up on him. She’ll fix him, whether he wants her to or not.

“I’m not going to hurt you,” Griffin growled, interrupting my inner diatribe.

“I know,” I lied.

He snorted. “Stop shaking. I said I wouldn’t harm you. I’m a cop.”

Yeah, but good cops didn’t beat the shit out of people in the dark of night.

So what did that make him?

“Keys,” Griffin said, snapping me out of my reverie.

I did not want to give this man the keys.

But did I have much of a choice?

No.

So I gave the man my keys, and watched in agony as he walked into my house, looked through all my rooms, then started into my bedroom last.

I probably wouldn’t have freaked out the way I did had I realized he was only going to be more persistent in going into my room, but I did freak out.

Then he got a curious look in his eye.

“Don’t go in there!” I yelled when he started to push my bedroom door open.

He cocked his head. “Why not?”

Because the vibrator you gave to me is on my nightstand…next to my lube!

Instead, I settled on, “Because that’s my room! Get out!”

He grinned.

It was the first grin I’d ever seen grace his lips, and I knew I’d do anything to see it again.

Even humiliate myself by letting him go into my room and see my greatest embarrassment yet.

And I knew the instant he saw it once he turned on the light.

His body froze, spine going solid.

And although he went through the room, even checking under the bed, he stopped by the night stand and picked up the vibrator that’d very recently been inside of me.

Then, with dawning horror, he brought it up to his nose and inhaled deeply.

My mouth dropped open at the way his eyes darkened.

Mother. Fucker.

Then, without another word, he placed the vibrator down gently on the nightstand and left, disappearing into the night.

Leaving me with a proverbial flood going on in my panties as arousal shot through me at the way he’d knowingly smelled the vibrator.

Sweet baby Jesus, that was hot!

So very, very hot.

And so very, very bad.

My mind was torn in between wanting him to come back, and to stay far, far away.

I did, however, go out onto my front porch to look down the street.

However, when I got in place to look without being seen, every single one of them was gone.

I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 5, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.

excerpt

Dropping his hands on his hips, Mack looked at the clock hanging above the plasma television. It was already half past five. She was expecting him by six. Since she only lived ten minutes away, he had plenty of time. Dropping into the leather recliner in the corner – the one where he sat and read at night – he dropped his head back against the chair. “Fuck,” he groaned out loud. He didn’t know whether he dreaded tonight or was excited by it. It had been years… literal years… since he’d taken a woman out on a date. Sure, he’d fucked women more recently than that, but those were chicks he’d picked up in a bar or at a medical conference … women that he’d had a few hours of shameless fun with before sending them on their merry way. Each one of them had been carefully selected and knew the score before their clothes had ever come off. If any of those ladies had been interested in more than the number of orgasms he could give them, he’d sent them off on their way with a wave and a smile.

Because he didn’t do long-term relationships anymore. He certainly didn’t fucking date.

Except, now, it appeared he did.

What the hell kind of voodoo magic had Millicent Robbins worked on him when he wasn’t looking that now had him contemplating more than a casual fuck with a woman?

Because he knew it could never be casual with Millie. And not just because she had a kid, either.

No, Millie was the type of woman with whom a man put down roots. That kind of guy bought a house. That type of man would get a dog. That man would help her raise a family. Holy shit, he’d already done two out three of those things, he realized with a horrified gasp.

Bolting to his feet, he darted toward his phone. He had to call this whole thing off before he found himself shackled to yet another woman that would end up hating him for his dedication to his job. He had to cut Millie loose before she looked at him and accused him of wasting the best years of her life waiting for him to be ready to concentrate on them instead of rushing off to take care of his patients.

He’d dialed the first three numbers of her phone number before he realized….

“Millie isn’t Tiffany,” Mack said out loud as he stared at the phone in his hand. Looking toward his Newfoundland dog, he grinned. “She’s nothing like Tiffany, is she?”

One sharp yap from Nugget confirmed what he already knew and he slowly replaced the phone on its base.

“Holy shit,” he whispered, sinking onto the couch as he stared at his huge long-haired dog. “Millie couldn’t be more different from Tiff if she tried.” First off, Millie wasn’t injected with as much plastic as a Barbie doll. Her tits still bounced when she walked, unlike his ex’s that sat like stone against her chest. Millie loved babies and kids. Hell, she even had one of her own that she loved with a passion that rivaled any parent’s love he’d ever seen. Tiff, on the other hand, couldn’t stand babies. Sad, since he’d loved children and had wanted them to have at least a couple of their own. She despised the idea of having to be responsible for another person. Although, in hindsight, he supposed it wasn’t really shocking since she could barely accept responsibility for the things she did. Most important of all, though, was the fact that he could never see Millie being unfaithful to him because she had something his ex-wife had always lacked. Something called integrity. If Millie wasn’t happy with him, she wouldn’t troll the local bars looking for an easy hook-up to dull the pain. Hell, no. Millicent would march right up to him, rip off his scrotum, and shake it over her head much like the Native Americans did when they’d taken a scalp from an enemy. Oh, Millie would probably give him the opportunity to make things right with her before she resorted to violence, but if that was unsuccessful, he had no doubt she’d go the other route.

His Millie could be a firecracker when crossed.

Fuck, now he was thinking of her with highly possessive pronoun usage? He was well and truly screwed.

A decade after skipping town Scarlett returns to start over in the only place that ever really felt like home. But when nothing goes as planned, she’s forced to turn to Luke for help.

After building a successful contracting business he’s proven everyone wrong professionally, but things in his personal life are upside down. Making it the exact wrong time for Scarlett to return to Saltwater Springs.

With a history of devastation and heartbreak between them can Scarlett and Luke make amends, or will secrets from the past threaten the foundation of Scarlett’s new life? Were Luke and Scarlett really built to last?

excerpt

Scarlett. His Scarlett.

His Lettie.

Here.

In Saltwater Springs.

The girl that had shattered both his heart and his self-confidence when she’d left him behind to attend college. His stomach clenched, his heart spasmed, and his dick twitched. Three simultaneous reactions that perfectly demonstrated the complicated nature of his feelings toward this woman.

At that moment, she looked up from the construction equipment she was pushing to the side and noticed him standing there. She made eye contact and her eyes flashed with something—recognition to be sure, but there was something else that was there and gone so fast he didn’t have time to identify it.

The past decade had been kind to Scarlett. Her wavy, black hair still shone and hung over her shoulders but wasn’t able to hide her ample chest. Her eyes were the same shade of evergreen. He used to be content to gaze into those emerald eyes for hours as they lay in the back of his pickup truck. She wore a tight-fitting pair of jeans that hugged her curvy hips—hips he was sure he’d still have a hard time keeping his hands off of if he were within arm’s reach of her.

But she’d never really been within his reach, had she? That was exactly why she’d left him without any explanation all those years ago.

Not that he should have been surprised, really. Scarlett was considered Southern royalty in this town, and he…well, back then he was nothing more than the son of a drunk and a waitress.

Figuring he needed to quit standing there looking like an idiot, he willed the semi in his pants to remember what a fool she’d made of him. Luke stepped sideways to stand in front of the door as Scarlett marched over to it, brushing her hands on her firm thighs as she went.

Scarlett chewed on her bottom lip as she unlocked the door, a nervous tic he remembered from her high school days. She whipped the door open, her eyes wide and panicked. “What are you doing here?” she asked, disbelief in her voice.

If he’d subconsciously had any hope that this could be a somewhat pleasant reunion, that had disappeared when the crease settled in between her brows.

“It’s good to see you after all this time, too,” he responded with a clipped tone. Luke brushed past her, and damn if she didn’t smell as mouth-watering as she looked. He wasn’t a gambling man, but he’d bet good money she still wore the same vanilla perfume as she did a decade before.

“Luke, wh-what are you doing here?” she stammered from behind him.

He turned to see her standing with her arms crossed underneath her breasts. Jesus, did she do that on purpose? Luke tried not to notice that her nipples were erect, but it was an impossible feat considering the thin cotton shirt she wore.

“I’m pretty sure you asked me to be here,” he said gruffly.

“I did not.” Was that contempt in her voice? “I didn’t even know you still lived in town.”

Ouch. That hurt.

“You texted me about taking a look at this place,” he said.

“You’re the owner of Old South Contracting?”

The way she said that really pissed him off. Like she couldn’t believe he’d actually made something of himself and wasn’t stuck pumping gas for a living. They’d met through his younger brother, and Luke had been five years older than her when they started dating. At the time he was in his early twenties and not doing much with his life, but was it that impossible to believe he hadn’t followed in his father’s footsteps and become the town drunk?

His mom had taught him to always be a gentleman, but figuring fair was fair, he returned some of her attitude. “That hard to believe?”

“I didn’t realize you had any interest in building things, that’s all.”

“Well, you’ve been gone for the better part of ten years, so you wouldn’t, now would you?” The accusation rang clear in his voice and he cringed inside. He didn’t want her knowing just how affected he’d been by her leaving.

“I don’t know what you want me to say,” she said, chin raised high like she was looking down on the world—down on him.

He clenched his jaw. It really ate at his craw that after all these years—and the way she’d ended things—that she was the one throwing attitude at him. She had some nerve. “You could start by telling me what it is you want done here.” Luke motioned to the bare walls and concrete floors surrounding them.

About The Author

Hi, I’m SJ, a coffee addict, lover of chocolate and drinker of good red wines. I’m a lost soul and a hopeless romantic. Reading and writing are necessary parts of who I am. Though perhaps not as necessary as coffee! I can drink coffee without writing, but I can’t write without coffee.

I grew up loving romance novels, my first boyfriends were book boyfriends, but life intervened, as it tends to do, and I wandered down the paths of non fiction for many years. My life changed completely a couple of years ago and I returned to Romance to find my escape.

I write ‘Sweet N Steamy’ stories because to me there is enough angst and darkness in real life. My favorite romances are happy escapes with a focus on fun, friendships and happily-ever-afters, just like the ones I write.

These days I live in beautiful Montana, the last best place. If I’m not reading or writing you’ll find me just down the road in the park – Yellowstone. I have deer, eagles and the occasional bear for company, and I like it that way.

Keep Up With SJ:

Misconduct – Excerpt

His three-piece black pin-striped suit looked crisp and dark against his fair skin, and his white shirt and slate-gray tie shimmered in the glow of the light overhead.

I took a few steps forward. “What are you doing here?” I asked.

His eyes shot down to my feet, and I followed his gaze, remembering that I’d forgotten to put my heels back on.

“Always losing your shoes,” he commented, a smile curling his mouth.

I pursed my lips and turned around, snatching my heels off the seat and slipping them back onto my feet. Grabbing the back of the chair, I pulled it behind me and entered my classroom, knowing he’d follow.

“You came to my workplace unannounced,” he stated behind me. “I thought I would return the favor.”

I replaced my chair behind my desk and looked up, seeing that he had closed the door behind him.

“And?” I prompted.

“And I came to apologize,” he admitted, stopping a few feet in front of my desk. “I’ve been unfair, and I’m sorry. Christian has his phone back, so we’ll see how this goes.”

I stilled, my heart galloping in my chest, and I almost smiled.

Really?

I opened my mouth but had to swallow the lump before I could speak. “Well, that’s great,” I said, surprised. “Thank you.”

I guess I got through to him at his office.

He slid one of his hands into a pocket and narrowed his eyes on me, looking a little surprised.

“You seem very knowledgeable and determined.” His voice sounded genuine. “You’re an impressive woman, Ms. Bradbury, and I should’ve taken the time to understand your methods.”

I kept my shoulders squared, but my eyes dropped, embarrassment warming my cheeks.

“Thank you,” I mumbled, turning around to grab a dry-erase marker to start writing the schedule on the board for when then kids came back on Thursday.

“Christian talks about your class,” he said behind me. “I can tell your teaching interests him, even if he would never admit it.”

I uncapped the marker and rested my hand on the board but didn’t write anything.

“He really can’t stand me, can he?”

I dropped my hand to my side and spun around slowly, surprised by his question.

And feeling terrible all over again. I should never have said that.

No matter how much I thought I knew about him, they were nothing more than assumptions. Who was I to insinuate his son didn’t care for him or vice versa? And what gave me the right to say anything at all in the first place?

He breathed deeply, and for the first time since I’d met him, he looked unsure of himself.

“I was twenty when he was born,” he told me. “That’s no excuse, but it’s the only one I have.”

Twenty.

I was twenty-three, and I couldn’t imagine having a child right now.

I watched him and waited, not wanting to say anything or interrupt because I found I kind of liked it when he talked.

“I know what you think of me.” He looked me dead in the eye and then dropped his gaze, speaking in a voice close to a whisper. “And what he thinks of me.”

And then he let out a bitter laugh, shaking his head. “I don’t know why I even care what you think. You don’t give a shit about me, but I guess that’s what’s so intriguing.” He moved forward, his soft eyes turning to steel. “You’re so cold and distant,” he charged. “I guess I wouldn’t think anything of it if I hadn’t seen you so different at one time.”

I inhaled a shaky breath, looking down at his right hand. The same one that had held my waist while we danced.

I licked my lips, barely noticing him advance.

“You were flirty and fun.” His voice turned husky, and I looked up, seeing him round my desk slowly. “And you keep pissing me off, but it feels good,” he whispered, playing with me, drawing me in.

I knew that look in his eyes. I may not know much about him, but I knew that look.

And we were in my classroom.

His son’s classroom.

I may have had little shame, but he had none.

“Mr.—”

He cut me off. “Why won’t you ever say my name?”

I shook my head, confused. “Why do you care what I think?”

“I don’t,” he maintained. “I care that you don’t think of me at all.”

I narrowed my eyes on him, clenching my teeth. “That’s not . . .” I trailed off, plastering my back against the whiteboard as he hovered over me.

“That’s not what?” he pressed, his voice sounding strained.

He stood so close that I had only to lift a hand and I could touch him.

“That’s not true,” I finished.

He leaned in. “You look at me like I don’t matter.” His eyes searched mine. “And I don’t like it.”

I should never have taken the dangerous shortcut to the frat party. It was in that unlit alley where I saw a fellow student brutally murdered and when I was put on the cartel leader’s hit list. As a federal witness, I thought I was safe in the protective custody of the FBI… that is until I woke up chained in the monster’s basement. When a powerful and lethal soldier, Ryder Axton—claiming to be a bounty hunter—tells me that he’s there to rescue me, I know it’s a lie. The only thought I have is how I can possibly kill him and get free. But after a series of unexplainable experiences that defy death, the overwhelmingly rugged, sexy, dirty-minded, Navy Seal trained, hot blooded bounty hunter—who obviously plays by his own rules—just might win my trust. He’s not an ordinary man. He’s strong, dark and deadly, his past is mysterious and his motives unreadable. He is made of the stuff of myth and legend, and of ink and steel. Is Ryder for real? Or is he employed by my captor for a more sinister purpose?

Ryder Axton

I always fight hard, fuck harder, and never let myself get personally involved. But my assignment, to apprehend the suspect Eduardo Miguel comes to a grinding halt when I find the missing federal witness held captive in his basement. It becomes fucking personal, fast! Making sure Farrington is safe even if it—or more likely she—kills me, is now my only mission. But she’s terrified and fights me at every turn. Earning her trust becomes more than a way to save both our lives, it’s like an addictive drug, I need it—I need her to trust me—like I need the air to breathe. When she begins investigating into the hidden parts of my soul, I almost can’t deny her. I know I can protect her, I know I could pleasure her in one explosive night she’ll always remember and I’ll never forget. What I don’t know is how it feels to fall hard… until now. But getting too close to me, seems to come with an ominous curse.

Just when I thought I had nothing to lose, I was wrong.

Can we both defy death… again?

Synopsis

Magazine columnist Quinn Sawyer has always attracted sweet, innocent, and safe men. And something tells her it’s because she’s just as harmless. So when she starts craving a guy with an edge, she realizes she may have to get one for herself.

When her boss asks for a unique pitch, Quinn’s quest to live outside her comfort zone prompts her to suggest an idea that will cause her to break her good-girl rules. And who better than Tim Jacobs to help her push her boundaries? For a while now, Quinn’s had a hot crush on the tattooed executive chef with a checkered past. If anybody can bring out her inner rebel, he can.

It’s no surprise that with every task the two complete, the sparks between them grow more and more intense. Soon there’s no denying the attraction they each feel. But Tim’s troubled past reveals an even tougher edge than Quinn expected—which means for her, falling in love might just be the greatest rebellion of all.

Review

“Okay, you want to unleash your inner rebel, then we’ll do it.”  “We?” ” Oh yeah. There’s no way I’m missing out on this.”

Elizabeth Hayley is a duo done right. Not only is their writing flawless (in no way can I tell when one writer stopped and another started) but they even make me a hater of third person just not care about it. Just Say Yes grabbed my attention from the moment I learned that good girl Quinn has set out to do a list of “bad things” and bad boy (or former bad boy even if he doesn’t acknowledge it) Tim decides to help her. That is a story line just asking for a good does of humor mixed with some great sex and just enough drama.  I loved the first standalone in this series and I can honestly say that Just Say Yes is even better.

‘Plain and simple, Quinn was a good person who was attempting to do a few bad things. But Tim had been a bad person for much of his life, and no amount of good deeds would wipe that slate clean.’

Quinn is determined to make it as a writer and if writing an article about her foray into the bad girl lifestyle is how to do it than she is all over it. I LOVED the list and how not only does Time help her but holds her hand and makes each task not only manageable but fun for her. I loved him and only wish he could have loved himself as much. Tim knows he is unworthy of someone sweet and good like Quinn but that has never stopped him from wanting her, only from acting on it. But he convinces himself that he can be her friend and help her and that is all it will be. But when he finds out that Quinn wants him too can he resist his biggest temptation?

‘She made him happy, made him better, made him somebody. But what she didn’t make him was worthy. It wasn’t the first time he’s forced himself to swallow that bitter pill, and it wouldn’t be the last.’

Just Say Yes was contemporary romance done right. I laughed out loud, my heart ached for their struggles but in the end I was left with a smile on my face.  If you are looking for an easy read filled with passion and humor this might just be the book for you!
