The Summer Games by R.S. Grey Review

5 Smooches

Synopsis
As an Olympic rookie, Andie Foster has spent far more time in her cleats than between the sheets. For 21 years, her Friday nights have consisted of blocking shots rather than taking them. But now that she’s landed in Rio, she’s ready to see for herself if the rumors about the Olympic Village are true:
The athletes are all sex-crazed maniacs… The committee passes out condoms like candy… The games continue long after the medals have been handed out… As Andie walks the line between rumor and reality, she’s forced into the path of Frederick Archibald, a decorated Olympic swimmer and owner of a sexy British accent–too bad he’s unavailable in a way that “it’s complicated” doesn’t even begin to explain.
In other words: off limits.
It doesn’t matter that he has abs that could bring peace to the Middle East and a smile that makes even the Queen blush; Andie fully intends on keeping her focus on the soccer field. But the Village is small. Suffocating. Everywhere Andie goes, Freddie happens to be there–shirtless, wet from the pool, and determined to show her a whole new meaning of the phrase “international affairs”.
Review
‘I was not in love with Fredrick Archibald. People do not fall in love overnight. I was merely excited by the idea of Freddie the same way I got excited by two-for-one ice cream sundaes at McDonald’s.’
OMG YOU GUYS! This book (which was not short in any way) just completely hijacked my Sunday and I wouldn’t of had it any other way. Going in I expected this to be light and fun but what I got was a story with depth and angst but still a huge does of humor too. R.S. Grey always puts out a book that can make me smile but this one had the power to make me tear up too. I loved Freddie and Andie and I am so happy I went on this journey to love with them.
‘Inviting him to the club had been a mistake but he was there and I wasn’t going to say no. I wanted to taste madness.’
The Summer Games can completely be a standalone but if you have read Scoring Wilder (and it is one of my FAVORITE romantic comedies so I am going to go ahead and urge you to read it because it is so amazing) than you will be familiar with the hilarity that is best friend Becca and Kinsley, now both older, wiser and married they have both calmed their wild ways and turned into hilarious mother hens who have taken newbie player Andie under than veteran Olympian wings. Becca and Kinsley are so enormously funny they balance the emotions and drama that pours off the pages beautifully.
‘I owned her then. She was mine.’
Freddie and Andie don’t have it easy, actually they have it the exact opposite of easy. Their love is hard won and an emotional, yet undeniably hot, journey. But this was one journey I was so ready to go on. There was something so real about Andie, she was drawn to Freddie from the start and even though she knew he was promised to another and that he would completely break her she couldn’t say no to him. She was on a path of destruction and self aware of this and yet she could do nothing to stop it, and I am not sure she would have really if she could. While I don’t want to say this is a love at first sight story it is very apparent that from the first moment these two lock eyes nothing will be the same for wither and there is something truly wonderful in powerful in that kind of emotion and pull.
‘There was no smile playing on his lips, no hint of friendship, just those caramel brown eyes assessing me coolly. I hated his beauty. I hated the way his attention made my heart race and my palms sweat. I could tell myself to look away, but deep down, I knew that until he was done with me, I’d never be done with him.’
Magnificently written and full of charming wit and epic drama this is one book I think everyone could love. The Summer Games gave me ALL THE FEELS and you want to know the best part . . . book two Out Of Bounds is coming THIS AUGUST. OH HELL YES! I need that in my life like yesterday!
