Synopsis

I remember the lights.

I remember I wanted to photograph them, the way the red and blue splashed across his cold, emotionless face. But I knew even if my feet could move from the place where they had cemented themselves to the ground and I could run for my camera, I wouldn’t be able to capture that moment.

I had trusted him, I had loved him, and even though my body had changed that summer, he’d made sure to help me hold on to who I was inside, regardless of how the exterior altered.

But then everything changed.

He stole my innocence. He scarred my heart. He took everything I thought I knew about my life and fast-pitched it out the window, shattering the glass that held my world together in the process.

I remember the lights.

The passionate, desperate, hot strikes of red. The harsh, cruel, icy bolts of blue.

They symbolized everything I endured that summer.

And everything I would never face again.

Review

“I know, babe. And maybe that’s part of the issue, you know? If you give your all to someone else, realize you may one day have to change all you know about yourself.”

WOW! Weightless is the first book by Kandi Steiner that I have read and I am amazed at how wonderful of a story she crafted. Her writing was effortless and beautiful and everything unfolded at the perfect pace to keep me excited. The hardest part about reviewing this book is not giving too much away. So please trust me when I tell you that this book is amazing and I truly believe you will all love it.

‘He was beautiful. Crazy? Maybe. Intimidating? Definitely. but, beautiful nonetheless.’

Weightless is a New Adult read that takes place right after the heroine, Natalie, graduates from high school and is dumped by her long term boyfriend, who then got a replacement for her within a few days. She is depressed and lonely and severely lacking any confidence. She is a curvy girl in a sea of thin beauties and doesn’t see her place. When she decides to take a leap and start with a personal trainer she is surprised to find that the club has hired the former bad boy of her high school, Rhodes, who was a few years older than her.

“You’re weightless. The world hasn’t touched you yet. You’re not heavy with the weight of pain, guilt, and selfishness.”

GAH! I loved Rhodes! He was mysterious and dark. Full of secrets that had him being sweet one moment and cruel the next. I for one loved a flawed hero and to be honest here I love a mean man and Rhodes filled those roles beautifully. The constant push and pull that Rhodes held over Natalie and the way no matter what she couldn’t stay away had me eager to see where the story would go. And boy did it turn in all kinds of directions I was not expecting.

‘And it was in that moment that I realized Rhodes was like lightning. White hot and electric, but fleeting and dangerous. Beautiful to watch, but perilous to touch.’

Weightless is a beautiful story about learning to love and accept yourself. The characters are flawed and the story difficult at times but through it all there is a constant feeling of hope. It is clear in Kandi’s words that this book was a labor of love for her and it shows on every page. I can’t believe that I have waited this long to read Kandi but she is definitely an author to follow for me now.
