“Thank you for your help,” I say quietly, studying him, definitely detecting that he’s deep in thought. Don’t ask, don’t ask, don’t ask. I need to get back into my apartment without engaging with him, which could prove tricky when he’s blocking the doorway and looking like he has no intention of shifting to let me in.

“Annie,” he breathes. “I’m struggling so badly.”

“I’m not doing this.” I swallow, pushing my way past him. He grabs me by the top of my arm and holds me in place. “Let me go, Jack.”

“I’ve already told you I can’t do that. Annie, I’m drowning here. I’m going out of my mind, and the more time I spend with you the fucking worse it’s getting. Listening to you, talking to you, sharing a passion with you that goes way beyond the amazing time we had in bed together.”

“You have to forget!” I yell, knowing anger is the only way forward. Be angry with him. Let it dominate me and rule me, because the alternative scares me to fucking death.

He pushes me into the hall and slams the door behind us, forcing me to back up. “No,” he says, straight and even. “No,” he repeats, moving one more step forward, except this time I don’t retreat. Because I can’t. Because he has me locked in place with those grey eyes, and now they’re back to their full glory. Sparkling, even if it’s with anger. He reaches for his shirt and starts unbuttoning it before shrugging it off and throwing it to the floor, revealing the chest that’s haunting me.

I quickly look down at the pile of material, my mind reeling. His chest. His perfect damn chest. “What are you doing?”

“I have no fucking idea.” He reaches for me and slides a hand around my neck, pulling me to him. Our chests meet, and my determination to repel him vanishes under our connection. Wrongs turn into rights. Conflict turns into craving.

“I can’t get you out of my head, Annie.” His forehead meets mine, his palm massaging away the tightness in my neck muscles, softening me up until I relax in his hold. “I want you all over again, and I can’t even find the will to worry about how much more that’ll make me want you.” He breathes down on me. “I’ve played that night on repeat. I’ve dreamed of holding you in my arms again. I’ve craved the sound of your voice, the feel of your touch, the softness of your lips on mine. I know I shouldn’t want you. But I do. Nothing has ever made me feel this insane with need. Nothing has taken up so much space in my head. I can’t fucking help it, Annie.” His grey gaze sinks into me, my heart steadying to an even thrum. His head starts to shake mildly, his splayed hand moving up to the back of my head and fisting my hair. “I don’t want to help it,” he growls. “I want you. I don’t care how wrong it is.” His clenched fist tightens, gripping my hair harshly. “I know I’ve been on your mind since I fucked you every which way in that hotel room. Stop denying it. Don’t insult me and tell me you don’t crave that amazing feeling all over again. I can see it in your eyes every damn time I look into them. You. Want. Me.”

It’s me who moves in first. All me. I lunge forward and smash my lips to his, the magnetic force winning. His words winning. Jack winning. My heart winning. I coax his mouth open with hard, hungry kisses. I’ve lost my mind to a craving too powerful to fight off. And, like Jack, I don’t care how wrong it is.

Lost.

Yet as he walks me backward until my back slams into the wall, I feel found again.

I cry out, and Jack moans. We’re clumsy and desperate. He’s pushing me up the wall with the force of his kiss, then he’s rolling away, taking me with him until it’s his back slamming into the wall. It’s the elevator all over again. The atmosphere is sizzling. I’m on fire. He scoops me up, pinning me to him, and carries me into my bedroom. I focus on him. Only him and the return of feelings that I’ve fantasized about since that unforgettable night. All the guilt is abandoning me, and I let it, unprepared to let anything stop me from taking the forbidden.

REVIEW

Forbidden is another really well written, intriguing story by Jodi Ellen Malpas.  The words were good.  The story was fast paced and the sexy times were beyond sexy.  Honestly, cheater books aren’t my favorite and I knew from jump street I would be going into a cheater book as I’ve read the This Man series and it was one of my absolute favorites.

I was very excited about this book and the story did not disappoint.  It was well developed and even though I found the characters completely flawed I still really enjoyed the story.  Because love is messy.  It’s sometimes wrong even when It feels right.  And people ultimately make bad decisions because of it all the time.  While I did really like this book, I still didn’t love it as much as the This Man series.  Although I don’t imagine I’ll ever love anything at much as Jesse.  He’s a tough one to beat.

AP new - synopsis.jpg

On the roof of a house outside Truelove, Maine, master carpenter Max Doyle looks down through a skylight and sees the most beautiful woman he’s ever laid eyes on. She’s naked, she’s gorgeous, and everything about her is perfect, down to the ball-busting tattoo of a rose that wraps around her hip. But it isn’t just any woman making his knees buckle. It’s his best friend, Rosie Madden. And as he stands there, mesmerized and precariously close to toppling off the roof, he knows he’ll never, ever be able to look at her the same way again.

Rosie can’t help but notice that Max is suddenly acting very strange—lots of long stares, totally tongue-tied, and not at all like the slightly cocky hunk she’s proud to call her best friend. She can’t figure it out, until later that night when Max rescues her from the world’s worst date, challenges her to a game of pool, and shows her just exactly what she’s got him thinking about. Repeatedly.

But life is complicated. Rosie’s cat, Julia Caesar, wants to eat Max’s dog Cupcake for an afternoon snack. A dream job threatens to pull them apart. And another glance through the skylight changes everything, one more time. Yet try as they might, they can’t go back to being just friends, because falling in love with the one you’ve always adored?

It feels so good.

Synopsis

Twilight, Idaho, is all Greer Kimble knows. Despite the rumors and fear-inducing campfire stories, she’s never seen a wolf in her hometown woods. But then a tumble roughs her up and puts her face-to-face with the most beautiful creature she’s even seen. One moment she’s looking at a mesmerizing beast, and the next she’s in the arms of a sexy stranger with eerily familiar electric-blue eyes. And now she’s caught in a war between fear and lust.

Beautiful, curvy, and sassy as hell, Greer is everything Xander Thorson craves in a mate. But he can’t allow a distraction like desire to compromise his mission to track a pair of rogue shifters who murdered his family. Hunting justice, thirsty for vengeance, he needs to stay focused. Getting involved with a woman who challenges him at every turn is as dangerous as it is reckless.

Xander’s vow to stay away from Greer shatters when the shifters target her to get to him. He’ll do anything to protect her…even if it means making her his.

Review

For Codi Gary’s first jump into paranormal this was an amazing fun story. Just A Little Harmless Sass was a quick, easy, yet intriguing story. I read this one in one sitting, unable to put it down. I love me a shifter book, since they are full of alpha-ness and this did not disappoint.

For a quick read, Xander and Greer’s book is packed full of heat and suspense. Xander’s backstory is sad and left him determined to exact revenge. Meeting Greer’s is not something he had planned but he can’t seem to stay away. These to have undeniable chemistry and every minute watching them get to their HEA was a delight!

Racer McKay is a broody bastard.

From the moment I met him, he’s been rude, irritable, and unbearable.

A contractor working to remodel my parents pool house for extra cash, he stomps around in those clunky construction boots with his tool belt wrapped around his narrow waist, and a chip on his shoulder.

Racer McKay is also infuriatingly . . . sexy as hell. I want to take that pencil tucked behind his ear, and draw lazy lines slowly up and down his body all the while wanting to strangle him at the same time.

We try to stay out of each other’s way . . . that is until I have no other option but to ask for his help.

But what I don’t realize is he needs me just as much as I need him. I have money he’s desperate for, and he holds the key to making my dreams come true.

Our pranks turn from sarcastic banter, to sexual tension and lust-filled glances. Bickering matches quickly morph into slow burn moments. We’re hot, we’re cold. We push and pull. I need him, I don’t want him. We’re on the verge of combusting with an agreement dangling dangerously between us. Neither one of us can afford to lose one another and yet, we’re finding it quite hard to decipher the line that rests between love and hate.

*Twisted Twosome is a stand alone romantic comedy.

Excerpt:

“Thanks for lunch, I haven’t had a fine peanut butter and jelly sandwich in quite some time.” Racer takes a giant bite from one of three sandwiches I made him. The man can eat; I just want to know where he puts it all. “What is this, crunchy peanut butter?” He looks over the sandwich, studying it intently.
“Yes, it’s crunchy with mixed berry jam.”
He nods and takes another bite. He talks with his mouth full, which for some weird reason makes him oddly adorable. “Nice touch, George. The peanuts add a nice texture.”
“Are you going all food critic on my PB and J skills right now?”
Lifting his shirt, he dabs away some of the sweat that’s collecting on his forehead, beneath his backward hat. His abs flex with the movement, drawing my attention. Each divot calling out to me to touch, to examine . . . to lick.
“I think every human should be judged on their PB and J skills.”
I pull my eyes away from his stomach just in time not to get caught staring. “Why do you think that?”
“Because,” he takes another bite, “I think building a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is in everyone’s repertoire, but only the truly skilled know how to make a proper one. And I want to be friends with the truly skilled.”
“Is that so?” I take a drink of my green tea and study him for a second, watching the way the muscles in his jaw move with each bite and swallow. It’s sexy.
His neck is sexy? Is that possible?
“So where do I land on your scale of sandwich artists?”
He smiles from my term, and I realize how much I adore his boyish charm. Pulling his eyes away from me, he examines one of the sandwiches I made him and starts assessing it. “Good ratio of peanut butter to jelly. Nice choice in bread. The crunch you added has been a pleasant surprise, and the mixed berry jam is fucking delightful.” I giggle from his girly term. “But . . .”
I perk up; there’s a but? “But what?”
He quirks his mouth to the side, almost to say, “Sorry, but you’re not quite perfect.” “The bread, it should have been toasted. Toasting it would have taken you to boss level when it comes to the PB and J.”
“Toasting it?”
He nods and takes another bite. “When you don’t toast a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, the peanut butter and bread form a paste on the roof of your mouth. Even though it tastes good, it can get quite irritating.”
“But I didn’t have a toaster.”
“Rookie mistake.”
“Well, If I knew I was going to be critiqued, I would have sprung for bacon.”
He pauses mid bite and stares at me over his sandwich. “You’re a beast for bringing up the option.”
I polish off the rest of my sandwich and wipe my fingers. “Well, maybe next time you’ll communicate expectations better. I’m not a mind reader, Racer. Frankly, the fact I didn’t make boss level is on you, not me.”
I stand and gather my trash as he stares me down. “Don’t you turn this on me. You didn’t have a toaster. The toaster is what’s key. This is on you, Georgie. This is on you!” he calls out as I make my way to the back, laughing to myself the entire time.
About the Author:
Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.
Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.
Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. SYNOPSIS:

From the first day I met Racer McKay, I knew our interaction was going to be incredibly brief. First impressions really do matter and unfortunately, I didn’t make a very good one.

At the time, I didn’t think much of it. I was never going to see this man again, right?

Wrong! When I’m met with the opportunity of a lifetime, there is only one man in the state of New York who can assist me. And can you guess who it is?

But what I don’t realize is he needs me just as much as I need him. I have money he’s desperate for, and he holds the key to making my dreams come true.

So, we reluctantly join forces.

Neither one of us can afford to lose one another and yet, we’re finding it quite hard to decipher the line that rests between love and hate

REVIEW:

I’m not going to beat around the bush here, I’m just going to tell it like it is for me: Meghan Quinn can do no wrong in my book. The way this author effortlessly blends surprisingly deep emotion into her romantic comedies is nothing short of genius. I always go into one of her books geared up to laugh myself silly with the utter absurdity that is this author’s comedic signature, and I am often heard snort-laughing through her books by my family. But, her books are so much more than just uproariously funny romantic comedies, and it’s how she continuously takes me by surprise with the powerful, heartfelt feelings she pours into her work.

Racer McKay was, by far, the most cuttingly sarcastic, obnoxious male lead that Quinn has ever written. It was really easy to hate this guy, almost too easy. But pay close attention, because this hero uses sarcasm to hide his insecurities, to shield his many layers and to guard his already battered and bruised heart. One look at Georgiana Westbrook is all it takes for Racer to know that this woman is way out of his league. He doesn’t have time for the pampered princess anyway, he needs to focus on digging himself out of a financial hole as deep as the Grand Canyon. Besides someone like her wouldn’t look twice at a flat-broke, Little-Debbie-snack-cake-addicted, blue-collar guy like him.

Georgiana Westbrook sure seems to have it all. Born to the kind of wealth and privilege that most people can only dream about, she should want for nothing. The problem is that she does want, but those wants of hers don’t align with the role her misogynistic father has assigned her in the family hierarchy. She wants more out of life than to become a philanthropically-focused-lady-who-lunches and a wealthy man’s trophy wife. But when she lays out her vision—her dream—to her father, his initial pride in her thoughtful thoroughness quickly turns into a brutal dismissal and then outright sabotage after she attempts to go it alone. Left with no other option but to hire Racer on the sly, she proposes a mutually beneficial arrangement to him. They’re both desperate, they both need each other, and as the walls come down, literally, they begin to build something truly beautiful.

I loved Georgie and Racer. The banter, the incredibly ridiculous, spot-on-spectacular banter in Twisted Twosome was some of Quinn’s best yet. Let me tell you, having read everything she’s released over the last two years, that is really saying something. Racer and Georgie’s relationship was a bit of a slow burn, but boy did it burn. This couple definitely ran each other through their paces, and in the process, Quinn took me on a full tour off all the feels. There is definitely a thin line between love and hate, and what may have started out as loathing between Racer and Georgie, quickly moved beyond lusting and blossomed into the kind of love that lasts a lifetime. As a reader who got to experience this relationship as it took root and grew, I was swept right up into this passionate, poignant and laugh-out-loud hilarious story. Five smooches from me for Meghan Quinn’s Twisted Twosome.

Synopsis

HE CAN TAKE THE HEAT.

Hot, hard-bodied Sixten Rapp is a former SEAL who’s raring to begin his brand-new civilian life. He and his Navy “brothers” start a security firm that offers the kind of services only a team of military-trained professionals can provide. But nothing prepared Six for his new client: an innocent woman on a mission to improve thousands of lives. . . unless someone takes hers first.

CAN SHE HANDLE THE FLAMES?

Dr. Louisa North knows time is against her as she tries to create a “miracle” medical treatment for a disease with no known cure, until she creates a sample so powerful that the wrong people want to use it as a chemical weapon. At first, Six is unwilling to accept Louisa as his client. But soon he realizes that the danger is real and that there’s much more to this plain-Jane scientist…including a burning passion between them that neither of them can resist. And now that an enemy is on Louisa’s trail, Six will do whatever it takes to protect her—or die trying.

Review

Scarlett Cole simple cannot let me down. This book was the beginning of a new series from her and it is vastly different from her previous works but no less amazing. This story had everything you need in an alpha hero book. Hot ex-Navy Seal, check, smart and quirky heroine, check, tons of action and a plot that reads like a movie, check.

I could not put this story down, I could see it playing out in my head and I didn’t want to stop till I reached the end. That to me is a sign of an excellent book. Six and Louisa’s story was completely hot and suspenseful. Despite the fact that she was awkward in social situations I could feel their chemistry immediately.

I loved how completely patient and protective of Louisa. This was a great beginning to a series I am incredibly excited to read. Scarlett Cole is a go to author for me and this is yet another book where she has outdone herself.

Also known as the Cosa Nostra.
My life was over the minute I stepped off that plane.

Heir to a throne of murder and lies.
My name is Dante Nicolasi.
And there will be blood.

Review

What can I say about this amazing book? While this could be a standalone I do HIGHLY recommend reading the others first, each book just adds to the large and detailed mob-centric world Rachel has created. If you go into this as a standalone there will be spoilers of previous books. You’ve been warned.

I desperately want to talk about parts of the plot of this book  . . . but I can’t and it’s killing me. I want to rant, I want to rave, and mostly I want to come up with a million different conspiracy theories that would have you realizing just how crazy I am. But to do that I would have to give too much away so, sadly, I can’t. But let me tell you how this book made me feel. I was delighted by the connection I felt between Dante and El. Pain, I felt so much pain for the hell El has been through and the internal struggles Dante is constantly living with. Heat, wow were they how, enough said. Delight, when they finally realized what we all knew and stopped avoiding the unavoidable. Surprise, you’ll see. Anticipation and hope because Rachel has never let me down.

Now, I am fully aware that out of context none of that makes a damn bit of sense but just trust that Rachel Van Dyken is a phenomenal writer and she won’t let you down.
