Nosey Snoop

“Only good times tonight, Addie girl,” Kara promised with a broad smile and a mischievous look in her eyes. She grabbed my hand and pulled me along behind her toward the building. Her blue tank top was exactly the same shade as the cloudless sky and it matched her eyes perfectly. She was rushing me, and I suddenly remembered I’d forgotten to lock my door, so I twisted around and aimed my key fob at the car until I heard the horn beep.
“Why are we in such a hurry?” I asked, as she walked around the corner of the building and came to a dead stop in front of apartment number 107.
“Don’t be mad,” she begged as she slid her key into the lock and turned.
“What are you talking about?” I asked. This was going to be bad. Any time, Kara asked me not to be mad; I usually ended up pissed as hell at her.
“Last week, Devon got a new roommate.” She didn’t have to tell me who it was, I already knew.
“Let me guess,” I said, tapping my finger against my lips as if I were thinking and watched her smile grow even wider.
“I swear, it wasn’t on purpose, Addie. I really thought the two of you would hit it off.” She pushed open the door and thankfully from the quietness that greeted us, it appeared no one else was at home. “Chill out, he’s at the shop with Devon. He was asking about you, though. I do believe he’s smitten.”
“Shut up! You and your Regency romances,” I said, laughing at her. I didn’t really want to hear it. Jake liking me was the last thing that I needed right now. I walked past her, dropped my backpack on the floor and flopped down on the couch where I immediately sank down and grav itated to the middle. The springs were broken. The place was messy, but I’d expected worse. It actually wasn’t too bad for two single guys. I’d always thought it kind of small, but the rent was dirt cheap. The kitchen sat off to the side. Everything was open. Kara pointed at the closed door behind the couch, and I twisted around in my seat to watch her. I knew the first room was Devon’s then there was a bathroom in between, and the n another room.

The last time I’d visited, Devon had a set of drums sat up in the other bedroom and a carburetor had lain torn apart and scattered across the floor.
“That’s Jake’s,” she said, walking toward the closed door. “Let’s look in his room.”
“No!” I shrieked. “Are you crazy? He could come in and catch us.”
“No, he won’t,” she insisted, smiling back at me and wiggling her eyebrows. “Come on, Addie. Live a little. It’s your birthday.” She already had the door open by the time I got up from the couch and walked around to join her. There was no stopping Kara once she got an idea in her head. “He’s a neat freak,” she declared in a shocked voice, and I stared around the small cramped space of his bedroom thinking she was nuts.
“No, he’s not,” I denied. He wasn’t a neat freak; at least not by my standards.
A single black blind covered the narrow window in the room. His bed was unmade. The blankets and sheets twisted. An unwanted image popped into my mind and immediately, I stopped myself before I could even go there. His mattress and box springs sat on the floor along with the clothes he’d worn the night before. I could feel my face growing warm, and I hoped Kara didn’t notice.
Jake wore boxers!
There were a couple of boxes that still nee ded to be unpacked, and they sat beside the makeshift bed. It seemed as if he’d been using them for a nightstand since there was some loose change, receipt s, and a half empty bottle of forgotten beer. In the far corner, a guitar leaned against the wall. It looked like a Fender.
“Honey, I’m home!” Devon cried out, laughing. I spun around in time to see him and Jake walk into the apartment. Jake’s gaze met mine then slid to his opened bedroom door, and he raised one eyebrow. A lazy smile slid over his features, and his eyes traveled over every singl e inch of my body. He paused his inspection at my face, which I knew was beet red.
“Addie, wanted to see your room, Jake,” Kara said, and I gasped and sputtered at her outrageous lie, but nothing sensible came from my mouth.
Thank you, Kara. Now, he thinks I’m a nosey snoop.
Jake’s grin widened as if he were pleased by that tiny little snippet of information. He was dirty with grease smeared on his jeans. His hands and his forearms were almost b lack; the color of soot. A dark smudge lined his cheek and made his cobalt blue eyes seem even bluer.

I stood there beside my best friend — the one I currently wanted to kill — with my mouth hanging wide open. Kara deserted me and walked toward Devon. She stood up on her tiptoes to place a kiss against his dirty cheek.
I was frozen in place as Jake walked toward me; his hips rolling with an easy gait, reminding me of lazy afternoons tanning beneath the warm summe r sun. Even filthy, he was beautiful. “You snooping in my room?” He asked with a cocky smile that made my heart skip a beat. His expression was smug.
At his words, my mouth fell open. Was he flirting with me? Being this close to him and that expression on his face made my stomach flutter. I started to break out in a cold sweat. “Uh,” I sputtered, feeling my face heat.
Get a hold of yourself, Addie. He’s just another guy.
“Of course, not,” I replied, and watched as his grin grew even wider as he studied my face.
“You sure about that?” He asked playfully, arching a dark eyebrow at me.
Crossing my arms over my chest, his eyes momentarily followed my movement then flicked back to my face. He was checking me out. “Yes,” I replied my voice stiff as I tried to act offended. “Why would I snoop in your room? You’re just being silly.”
A wicked gleam entered his eyes and suddenly, I came to my senses and stepped aside so he could enter his room. Duh, I’d been blocking his door. His was so close. I only had to reach out and touch him, but I didn’t.
“Addie,” he said, and I glanced up meeting his eyes. The gravelly sound of his husky voice sent chills racing down my spine. “You’re welcome to visit my room anytime, now that you’re legal.”
When he brushed past me, we almost touched, and I noticed then that Kara and Devon were standing there watching us, both of them wearing silly grins.

Excerpt:
Trying not to wake him, I slowly slid out from under his arm and off the bed to search for my clothes. Once I was dressed, I told myself to just leave, but I couldn’t help it—I turned to look at him in the light. I needed to be sure I hadn’t made him up.

The images from last night tore through my mind again when I saw the large, tattooed arm resting where my body had just been. The muscles were well defined even relaxed, and the face had a boyish charm now that he was asleep. Such a difference from the predatory stare and knowing smirk I kept seeing in my mind. Before I could stop myself, I gently ran my fingers through his dirty-blond hair that, now in the sunlight, I could see had a red tint to it. And I knew if he opened them, those arctic blue eyes would once again captivate me.

But I couldn’t risk that.

I’d already stayed too long; I’d already made a mistake with him. Drunken one-night stands weren’t my thing. Drunken one-night stands with strangers in Vegas were even worse.

Straightening, I turned and walked quietly from the room.”— Molly McAdams, Trusting Liam

mollyAbout the Author:
Molly McAdams grew up in California but now lives in the oh-so-amazing state of Texas with her husband and furry four-legged daughters. Her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling and long walks on the beach, which roughly translates to being a homebody with her hubby and dishing out movie quotes. When she’s not at work, she can be found hiding out in her bedroom surrounded by her laptop, cell, Kindle and fighting over the TV remote. She has a weakness for crude-humored movies, fried pickles and loves curling up in a fluffy comforter during a thunderstorm…or under one in a bathtub if there are tornados. That way she can pretend they aren’t really happening.

Review

“Because unlike what everyone loves to believe so they can feel better about their own dirty deed while in Sin City, what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas.”

I am a wimp. I read Taking Chances long before I blogged and even before I had any book friends and I had no clue . . .I mean absolutely NO CLUE what kind of emotional journey I was getting into. By the end of the book I had thrown my kindle, drank and bottle of wine and swore off reading Molly McAdams ever again. As much as I loved the story (mostly) she was simply an author that could not be trusted. I needed to be smart with my heart and steer clear. Here I am a almost two years later and I still have not read anything else by Molly but I am wiser and more well-read and even I can acknowledge that swearing off an author because she completely shattered your heart is a dumb idea. When I saw the invite for Trusting Liam I knew the time had come to give Molly a chance and just pray that I would come out of this in one piece.

“Oh, a little confident there? So many women fall at your feet that you don’t have to bother yourself with something like pursuing one of them? Must be nice.”   “No one was ever worth the chase. But you? You will be worth it every time. I will always chase you, Kennedy.”

Trusting Liam is told in dual POV between Liam and Kennedy in first person.  Existing in both the Taking Chances and Forgiving Lies world, Trusting Liam is best if read after those book but completely could be read as a standalone, as I previously stated I have only read Taking Chances and had no problem keeping up although I do now desperately want to read Forgiving Lies.

“This wasn’t me. I liked being on top. I likes having control of any heated situation, and not being in control left me panicking – but not with Liam. Everything about Liam, from last year in Vegas through now, had me being someone I didn’t recognize.”

Liam and Kennedy have a passionate night in Vegas where both lost all control over someone whose name they didn’t even know. Unfortunately for Liam, Kennedy sneaks out before he can find out more about the first girl to get under his skin. Resolved about the fact he returns home and continues to work hard excel at his job until the day that his boss and mentor ask him to help out his twin nieces get settled in town. Kennedy along with her identical Twin, Kira, is forced to move to California when danger at home puts both at risk. She never expects when she gets a job at a fighting gym, with the help of her uncles employee, that the owner’s son would be the sexy man she left naked in a bed a year ago. The one who finallly let her give up an ounce of control. But nothing is easy in the Molly world and Kennedy is determined not to get into another relationship that would have the power to break her.

“For the first time in my life, I knew I was falling in love. And it was with a girl who was terrified by the idea of relationships.”

Trusting Liam was a sexy and sweet book with a dash of insight into the world after Taking Chances and with two main characters you can’t help to fall for. Tattooed and pierced Kennedy appears tough but is still vulnerable and Liam looks and acts the playboy role as good as his dad before him. But these two together are dynamite. The writing was smooth and addicting and the story kept me turning pages. I can’t say that it invoked as much emotion as Taking Chances but it did make me want to explore more Molly books in the future.

“Good night, Moon.”

I’m in trouble. Again. And instead of facing my problems head-on, I’ve run away. But someone is watching me. Following me. He’s gorgeous. Soon we’re talking, and against all my instincts, I reveal bits and pieces of myself to Max. It feels good, though I know he can’t be the man for me. These sudden feelings we share are way too complicated, too fraught, too intense.

I was stuck between a rock(star) and a hard place.

At fifteen, his poster hung on my bedroom wall.  At twenty-five his body hovered over mine.  Every girl’s fantasy became my reality.  I was dating a rockstar.  Yet I was slowly falling for another man.  The problem was—the two men—they shared a tour bus.

Flynn Beckham was the opening act.

Dylan Ryder was the headliner.

What happens when the opening act begins to shine so bright, it seems to dim everything else in its wake?

I’ll tell you what happens.  Things get ugly.

Excerpt

Despite the fact that Lucky had just casually mentioned that the lobby lounge serves coffee beginning at six a.m., I’m pretty sure of myself that she’ll be down there.  But when I step off the elevator, the lobby is quiet.  Empty.  The coffee urns are just being set up in the lounge.  I pour two mugs, make them just as we like it, and settle on one of the couches on the far side of the room where it’s private, yet I can still keep an eye on the door.

I grab a newspaper and begin to flip through to kill time.  Then my eyes catch a pair of pink-painted toes in flip-flops.  I don’t know why, but it’s in this moment that I realize, I’m fucked.

The sight of her toes makes me smile.

I’m falling for another guy’s girl.  Something I promised myself I’d never do.

But then I reason with myself.  I haven’t done anything wrong.  Thinking a woman is beautiful and spending time with her doesn’t have to turn into anything, right?  They’re just toes after all.  But look how cute they are.  I’ve never been a foot guy, yet I wouldn’t mind sucking…  Stop.  Just stop.  We’re just friends.

Because I’ve been friends with so many hot women in the past and not fucked them?  Yep.  I’m screwed.  I need to get the hell out of here.

“Good morning,” she whispers and smiles down at me.  My eyes lazily travel up from her toes.

I’m totally not going anywhere.

I hold up her mug of coffee.  And then I realize she still has the thin shirt she wears to sleep on and I’m eye-level with the sexiest taut nipples I’ve ever seen.

Screw sucking her toes… “Certainly is.”  I grin.

Think.

Think back to the exact moment when you fell in love for the first time.

That split second. That precise moment.

Can you remember it?

I can remember the day as if it were yesterday: from the light blue dress she wore, to her golden locks curved along her shoulders, down to the shocking tingle when our fingers touched. It was the happiest day of my life, and yet she didn’t even know I existed.

What if you had the chance to relive those moments? Would you take it?

I’ve waited almost ten years for her and my time has finally come.
This split second, this precise moment will change her life forever.

Review

Roman and Melanie have known of each other since they were teenagers, but never quite getting to know each other more than a few words here and there. But when their jobs bring them together in un-expected and sad way the two finally get a chance to know each other deeper. But will the tragic injuries Roman has suffered make him push Melanie away? And will Melanie have the strength to not give up on him and get Roman to believe in himself?

“At that moment, my heart beats a million miles per minute as the beauty from the past stands there before me. Is this for real? Is she really here? I could never forget those emerald eyes; they’ve haunted my dreams for years.”

I read and loved Little Things, the first novel from this author, so I couldn’t wait to get into Roman and Melanie’s story, and it didn’t disappoint at all. In fact I think I loved this story more! Little Things was quite a dark novel at times, which I enjoy, but I did adore this novel which was not dark but had so much emotion and a brilliant plot that hooked me in from the beginning and kept hold of me right till the very end.

“I see he’s trying to push me away but I won’t have it. One way or another, I’m going to push through and bust down his walls. Whether he likes it or not.”

Melanie and Roman were both characters I fell in love with. Melanie was so sweet and caring in Little Things and she was exactly the same in this novel; but she had also grown into a strong woman, a woman who wanted to help Roman and stand by him even when he wanted to give up on himself. And Roman was quite simple a hero; a firefighter who has lost so much and risks his life for others. He had to battle through so much and yet kept his caring nature, always wanting to put others before himself, even if it was his happiness at stake.

“Every single time he sees me he greets me with a smile. That smile of his melts my heart and causes my breathing to become erratic. I can’t help but feel drawn to him. It’s this force that keeps pulling me toward him and I’m not going to fight it.”

I loved the story; it had the right mixture of everything, love, heartache, laughter, suspense and a beautiful couple you will fall in love with and be hoping they can make it out the other side together. I also loved hearing from Duke and Raya and getting hints about other characters in this novel. If you love romances, you will love Melanie’s and  Roman’s sometimes heartbreaking but uplifting story.

10857986_10152976323909602_5063666653450511849_nHey y’all,

I was born and raised in Ladner, a small farm town just outside Vancouver, Canada. I grew up riding horses, shooting guns, and driving in trucks.

I never expected to be an author. A massage therapist? Yes. Take over the family construction company? Yes. But an author? No. Writing was something that snuck up on me and rooted itself into my life. It was beautiful to discover that love, and I’m truly grateful to say I’ve found my passion.

Since I’ve always been a creative person, it feels amazing to harness all of that energy and use it to tell a story I love. I enjoy incorporating bits of my real life into the stories I write. What parts are true? Hah. I’ll never tell—what would be the fun in that?

If I could leave y’all with one thing, it’s that life’s far too short to not live it out loud. Drown in your passions, hold on tight to the things that inspire you, and chase your dreams relentlessly. I can promise you without a doubt that you won’t regret it. I know I don’t.

Mad love,

Excerpt

Chapter 1

Hollywood, California, 1992

20 Years Old

1 Day Before Killing Kurtis

My head bangs against the wall as Kurtis has his way with me, groaning and grunting all the while. I can sense he’s reaching his limit and can’t hold out much longer.

“Baby,” he moans, his voice straining.

I turn my face into his ear and exhale sharply, making sure my breathing seems ragged and desperate, as if, despite my best efforts at maintaining my composure, I just can’t control myself. Of course, my dear husband, only you bring out the wide-eyed little girl in me, the girl who believes in happily ever afters and soul mates. I roll my eyes, even as my skull bangs against the wall with a loud thud.

The vast majority of the time, something as simple as panting in Kurtis’ ear does the trick and sends him over the edge. But not this time.

Bang, bang, bang. My head continues its assault on the wall of our hotel room.

“Oh, Kurtis,” I blurt loudly, taking great care to infuse my voice with breathless excitement. And then, because Kurtis absolutely loves it when I talk Texas, I bring my lips right to his ear, blow out a puff of warm air, and whisper, in my most exaggerated twang, “Goodness gracious, sugar.”

That ought to do the trick.

I wait.

He’s moaning and grunting like a hog in slop, but undeniably hanging on. Well, hells bells. Looks like I’m gonna have to work a little harder than usual to lead my blind pig of a husband to an acorn tonight. I make a noise like my insides are being split in two by pleasure so intense, it hurts—and then, just because I like wearing belts and suspenders, I bite his earlobe, too. Hard.

Yep, that does it. Hallelujah. Kurtis lets out a mangled cry of release and relief, and I respond with my trademark I’m-just-so-in-love-with-you sigh. Just for the heck of it, since this is my final performance, after all, and I’m a big believer in “leaving it all out there,” I follow all of it up with a little shimmy—something I’ve only recently learned I’m supposed to do at times such as this—and then I arch my back with apparent pleasure like I’m finally, deliciously scratching a hard-to-reach itch.

I smirk. I should have been an actress. Oh wait—I am an actress. And a damn good one, too—destined to be seen by audiences in cineplexes all over the world.

Kurtis becomes still. His body goes slack. Beads of sweat cover his brow, his chest, his cheeks. If I didn’t hate my husband so much, I might actually think he’s handsome—quite handsome, indeed.

I smile dreamily at my dear husband, thinking about tomorrow—when he’ll finally be dead.

“You’re amazing, baby,” Kurtis says, grinning like a possum with a sweet potato.

“Oh, Kurtis,” I squeal. In a sudden and unexpected fit of genuine glee, I throw my head back and laugh with abandon. Tomorrow is finally Killing Kurtis Day, and I’m bursting at the seams about it.

Kurtis kisses my nose. “I love you, baby.”

“I love you, too, Kurtis,” I reply. And it’s true. I do love Kurtis—that is, if you define love as that hard-to-pin-down sensation of anticipation and longing you get as you count down the days, then hours, and then minutes until your loved one is cold and dead as he so richly deserves to be. What a thrill—a turn-on, even, if I’m being honest—to be so very close now, so very, very close, after waiting a tortuous year minus one day for his well-deserved fate to come. Being on the eve of his one-way departure from planet earth, I feel somewhat hot and bothered, actually. Hey now, being so close to Happy Killing Kurtis Day is getting me hotter than a stolen tamale. I suddenly and enthusiastically kiss my husband’s mouth, and he plunges his tongue into mine in reply.

“Oh, baby,” he murmurs, his brawny body instantly responding to my surprising invitation. “Again?”

“Again,” I mutter.

Might as well send the fucker off with a smile on his stupid, lying face.

Synopsis

I do love my husband. To death. I love him so much that I’ve waited a whole year (minus one day) for Killing Kurtis Day to arrive. Tomorrow it will finally be here and I’m giddy with anticipation.

Don’t judge me, you don’t know the whole story. I reckon if you were in my shoes, you’d kill your husband, too.

Review

When I began this book, I of course read the blurb, so I didn’t go into this blind. I did know that this would be a dark book. It was a very disturbing book to read, it was very raw and beautifully organized. It was equivalent to a crazy, intense, LifeTime movie, if I had to categorize it. I was completely blown away. I can’t say that I was speechless, well, because after completing the book, I asked myself: What the hell did I just read? And that response is not to be taken negatively. When I finished the book, my mind was blown. I went back and read passages again.  I found myself thinking about the book on my drive to work and even blabbed my mom’s ear off on the way from the airport. When I began the book, I worried I was going to be overwhelmed with too many flashbacks. And that my mommy brain wouldn’t keep up. But as the words continued on the page, I was able to follow with ease. I anticipated every chapter, every nugget of information. I had to hold on, I felt the author made every word and phrase in this book with a purpose. And the emotions, the rage, the love, just made me enjoy this book more. I thought I had the book figured out, which is a bad habit of mine, but I did not see what came and sat in my lap. Charlene, did everything in her right mind, to gain a Hollywood career. It was embedded in her mind that she is Charlie Wilber’s Daughter and she is definitely going to be somebody! This girl was told this hundreds upon hundreds of times. Yet it was that influential moment from her father, that paved the way for money, fame, lies and death. Saying I loved this book does not do it justice! So I will mic drop right now, ending this 5 smooches review with “Nothing but the best for Charlie Wilber’s Daughter”.

That’s me—Tingly Simmons—athlete, foreign-language major, professor lover, obsessed idiot girl. Definitely not a frat rat or sorority slut. I’ve never even played beer pong.
I ditched the vapid, soulless high-society life of Los Angeles for the promise of something more meaningful in rural Ohio. Accepting a track scholarship for college, I tried running my way to happiness, but instead I ended up sleeping with my French professor and falling head over heels for him.
When that relationship fell apart, so did I.
Barely hanging on by a thread and using the most absurd coping skills, I was determined to hide behind my past indiscretions. That was, until I met Tiberius Jones. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d learn the truth about love from a six-foot-five basketball player.

Fearless about sharing her opinion, Rachel captured the ear of stay-at-home and working moms on her blog, BacknGrooveMom, chronicling her adventures in parenting tweens and inventing a product, often at the same time. She has also blogged for The Huffington Post, Modern Mom, and StartupNation.
Turning her focus on her sometimes wild-and-crazy creative side, it only took Rachel two decades to do exactly what she wanted to do—write a fiction novel. Now she spends way too many hours in local coffee shops plotting her ideas. Her tales may all come with a side of angst and naughtiness, but end lusciously.
Rachel lives around the corner from her childhood home in Pennsylvania with her family and two dogs. Her obsessions include running, coffee, icing-filled doughnuts, antiheroes, and mighty fine epilogues.
