Change Rein Synopsis:

change rein_amazonLondon Daniels is returning home to Willow Bay, Alberta, on the heels of a televised loss. She blew her shot at the Summer Olympics and cost Canada the gold medal in dressage.

During her years of training abroad, her family’s stable has fallen on hard times, and thus, they’ve accepted an offer to board the racehorses of Branson Tucker, the infamous tycoon, for the winter.

London lacks conviction after her ill-fated fall. And as if returning to her hometown to watch her epic failure replay on everyone’s big screen isn’t torture enough, she’s expected to cater to a man with an ego bigger than her hundred-acre farm just to earn a dime.

Is London saddling up for another ride that will leave both her heart and her ass in the dirt? Or could the handsome, unwanted guest at Willow Bay Stables be her second chance to go for gold?

Anne Jolin Bio:

10857986_10152976323909602_5063666653450511849_nHey y’all,

I was born and raised in Ladner, a small farm town just outside Vancouver, Canada. I grew up riding horses, shooting guns, and driving in trucks.

I never expected to be an author. A massage therapist? Yes. Take over the family construction company? Yes. But an author? No. Writing was something that snuck up on me and rooted itself into my life. It was beautiful to discover that love, and I’m truly grateful to say I’ve found my passion.

Since I’ve always been a creative person, it feels amazing to harness all of that energy and use it to tell a story I love. I enjoy incorporating bits of my real life into the stories I write. What parts are true? Hah. I’ll never tell—what would be the fun in that?

If I could leave y’all with one thing, it’s that life’s far too short to not live it out loud. Drown in your passions, hold on tight to the things that inspire you, and chase your dreams relentlessly. I can promise you without a doubt that you won’t regret it. I know I don’t.

Mad love,

Anne Jolin

Synopsis

I do love my husband. To death. I love him so much that I’ve waited a whole year (minus one day) for Killing Kurtis Day to arrive. Tomorrow it will finally be here and I’m giddy with anticipation. Excerpt

Chapter 1

Hollywood, California, 1992

20 Years Old

1 Day Before Killing Kurtis

My head bangs against the wall as Kurtis has his way with me, groaning and grunting all the while. I can sense he’s reaching his limit and can’t hold out much longer.

“Baby,” he moans, his voice straining.

I turn my face into his ear and exhale sharply, making sure my breathing seems ragged and desperate, as if, despite my best efforts at maintaining my composure, I just can’t control myself. Of course, my dear husband, only you bring out the wide-eyed little girl in me, the girl who believes in happily ever afters and soul mates. I roll my eyes, even as my skull bangs against the wall with a loud thud.

The vast majority of the time, something as simple as panting in Kurtis’ ear does the trick and sends him over the edge. But not this time.

Bang, bang, bang. My head continues its assault on the wall of our hotel room.

“Oh, Kurtis,” I blurt loudly, taking great care to infuse my voice with breathless excitement. And then, because Kurtis absolutely loves it when I talk Texas, I bring my lips right to his ear, blow out a puff of warm air, and whisper, in my most exaggerated twang, “Goodness gracious, sugar.”

That ought to do the trick.

I wait.

He’s moaning and grunting like a hog in slop, but undeniably hanging on. Well, hells bells. Looks like I’m gonna have to work a little harder than usual to lead my blind pig of a husband to an acorn tonight. I make a noise like my insides are being split in two by pleasure so intense, it hurts—and then, just because I like wearing belts and suspenders, I bite his earlobe, too. Hard.

Yep, that does it. Hallelujah. Kurtis lets out a mangled cry of release and relief, and I respond with my trademark I’m-just-so-in-love-with-you sigh. Just for the heck of it, since this is my final performance, after all, and I’m a big believer in “leaving it all out there,” I follow all of it up with a little shimmy—something I’ve only recently learned I’m supposed to do at times such as this—and then I arch my back with apparent pleasure like I’m finally, deliciously scratching a hard-to-reach itch.

I smirk. I should have been an actress. Oh wait—I am an actress. And a damn good one, too—destined to be seen by audiences in cineplexes all over the world.

Kurtis becomes still. His body goes slack. Beads of sweat cover his brow, his chest, his cheeks. If I didn’t hate my husband so much, I might actually think he’s handsome—quite handsome, indeed.

I smile dreamily at my dear husband, thinking about tomorrow—when he’ll finally be dead.

“You’re amazing, baby,” Kurtis says, grinning like a possum with a sweet potato.

“Oh, Kurtis,” I squeal. In a sudden and unexpected fit of genuine glee, I throw my head back and laugh with abandon. Tomorrow is finally Killing Kurtis Day, and I’m bursting at the seams about it.

Kurtis kisses my nose. “I love you, baby.”

“I love you, too, Kurtis,” I reply. And it’s true. I do love Kurtis—that is, if you define love as that hard-to-pin-down sensation of anticipation and longing you get as you count down the days, then hours, and then minutes until your loved one is cold and dead as he so richly deserves to be. What a thrill—a turn-on, even, if I’m being honest—to be so very close now, so very, very close, after waiting a tortuous year minus one day for his well-deserved fate to come. Being on the eve of his one-way departure from planet earth, I feel somewhat hot and bothered, actually. Hey now, being so close to Happy Killing Kurtis Day is getting me hotter than a stolen tamale. I suddenly and enthusiastically kiss my husband’s mouth, and he plunges his tongue into mine in reply.

“Oh, baby,” he murmurs, his brawny body instantly responding to my surprising invitation. “Again?”

“Again,” I mutter.

Might as well send the fucker off with a smile on his stupid, lying face.

Review

When I began this book, I of course read the blurb, so I didn’t go into this blind. I did know that this would be a dark book. It was a very disturbing book to read, it was very raw and beautifully organized. It was equivalent to a crazy, intense, LifeTime movie, if I had to categorize it. I was completely blown away. I can’t say that I was speechless, well, because after completing the book, I asked myself: What the hell did I just read? And that response is not to be taken negatively. When I finished the book, my mind was blown. I went back and read passages again.  I found myself thinking about the book on my drive to work and even blabbed my mom’s ear off on the way from the airport. When I began the book, I worried I was going to be overwhelmed with too many flashbacks. And that my mommy brain wouldn’t keep up. But as the words continued on the page, I was able to follow with ease. I anticipated every chapter, every nugget of information. I had to hold on, I felt the author made every word and phrase in this book with a purpose. And the emotions, the rage, the love, just made me enjoy this book more. I thought I had the book figured out, which is a bad habit of mine, but I did not see what came and sat in my lap. Charlene, did everything in her right mind, to gain a Hollywood career. It was embedded in her mind that she is Charlie Wilber’s Daughter and she is definitely going to be somebody! This girl was told this hundreds upon hundreds of times. Yet it was that influential moment from her father, that paved the way for money, fame, lies and death. Saying I loved this book does not do it justice! So I will mic drop right now, ending this 5 smooches review with “Nothing but the best for Charlie Wilber’s Daughter”.

That’s me—Tingly Simmons—athlete, foreign-language major, professor lover, obsessed idiot girl. Definitely not a frat rat or sorority slut. I’ve never even played beer pong.
I ditched the vapid, soulless high-society life of Los Angeles for the promise of something more meaningful in rural Ohio. Accepting a track scholarship for college, I tried running my way to happiness, but instead I ended up sleeping with my French professor and falling head over heels for him.
When that relationship fell apart, so did I.
Barely hanging on by a thread and using the most absurd coping skills, I was determined to hide behind my past indiscretions. That was, until I met Tiberius Jones. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d learn the truth about love from a six-foot-five basketball player.

EXCERPT
When reality starts to fade in a bit, I find myself being walked to the door of my apartment building, my arms draped over both Kayla and Steph. We go up the stairs and now I’m standing in front of my door, wobbling back and forth, trying my hardest to look as sober as possible.
Steph goes to knock on the door but it’s already open. I guess we are being loud, giggling, in the hallway.
Bram looks at the three of us and my God is he a sight for sore eyes.
“We brought her home,” Steph says, motioning with her hand for Bram to get out of the way, “your shift is over.”
“No,” I tell them as they shuffle me inside. “He can stay.”
I know the three of them are exchanging a look over my head.
“I’ll make sure she goes to bed,” Bram explains. “No funny business, I swear.”
“Pinky swear?” Steph says and I turn to see her holding out her pinky to him. “You know I don’t break those.”
Ugh, Steph and her damn pinky swears. She wouldn’t even be married to Linden if it weren’t for one.
But Bram does a pinky swear with her.
“No funny business,” Steph warns him.
“Good thing I’m not funny!” I yell as I flop down on the couch. The room is beginning to spin.
“Nic, that was, like, five minutes ago,” Steph says. She reaches over the couch and pats my head. “Do you want us to undress you because Bram’s not allowed.”
“No one undresses me but me!” I yell, throwing my fist up into the air.
“Have fun with her,” Steph says to Bram. “And remember, she’s untouchable. Don’t make me make your brother punch you in the junk or something.”
Bram makes a scoffing noise. “Last time he tried to do that, I got him back good. You just ask him what happened on January 16th, 2005 and why he’ll never eat pudding again.”
“I mean it,” Steph threatens and I hear her and Kayla leave and the door closing.
I close my eyes too. Drift away for a moment. The spinning has stopped and there’s a beautifully cool breeze wafting over my skin.
“I’m not supposed to touch you,” Bram’s gruff voice says and when I open my eyes, he’s crouched in front of me, a lock of dark hair over his forehead. His face is shadowy in the dark, the only light now being from my bedroom behind him.
“That’s okay,” I mumble into the couch. “You can touch me. I say it’s fine.”
“How about I bring you something to sleep in? Do you have a favorite nightshirt? I always see you in that top that your nipples try and poke right through.”
“No, not the nipple shirt.”
He goes to get up. With a lazy hand, I grip his shirt. “Don’t leave. I’m fine here.”
“I can’t imagine you being comfortable.”
“I’m drunk. Everything is comfortable. Except I wish I had a cheeseburger. I would eat it and use it as a pillow. Or maybe use it as a pillow and then eat it.”
“I see.”
I raise my brow at him. “You just want to go through my underwear.”
“Oh, I’ve already gone through your underwear.”
“Lies.”
“I wore them on my head and danced around your apartment.”
“Did you really?” I ask, totally serious.
“Come on,” he says grabbing my forearms. “If you want to sleep in your clothes, that’s fine. But I’m bringing you to your own bed and taking off your shoes.”
“Can you brush my teeth too? I need clean teeth.” I let him pull me to my feet and I pitch to the left, heading right for the coffee table. But I’m in his arms, his capable arms, and he’s holding me to him.
“You have capable arms.”
“You have an exquisite arse,” he responds and half leads me, half drags me out of the living area and into the bedroom.
“I like the way you say arse,” I say with a giggle, exaggerating his accent. “I like the way you say everything.”
“I’m glad, because I foresee a lot of arse talk in the future.”
“Yeah, yeah.” I try and swat him away. “All talk and no arse pinching.”

Review

I have been dying to write this review since I finished this amazing book yesterday.  Usually I have to think about what I want to say about a book for a few a days but this book was kind of special.  Why, you ask.  Because I love all of Karina’s books.  I am obsessed with her characters, her places, her writing.  It takes me away from my every day life and places me in an alternate fictional universe of drama, fun, and adventure.  Her writing takes me everywhere and I knew I would love the The Offer.  I just wasn’t prepared for how much I would it.  It was, in one word, PERFECT.  I wouldn’t change a single thing about this book.  I loved the story.  The characters were amazing and real and completely flawed.  I fell in love with all of them.  Especially Bram, oh Bram!

the offer

I mean I really loved The Pact and Linden is a damn hard act to follow but Karina did the unthinkable.  She made me love Bram more.  I am completely obsessed with this man and his and Nicola’s story.  It was magical and I literally read this book straight through.  I could not stop.  How did Karina Halle write a book that was somehow more touching, more heart wrenching, more sexy, and yet more funny at the same time than The Pact?  I have no clue, but it happened.

Bram had to work just as hard to win me over and as he did Nicola and I am so glad that he did because the man is sexy beast and one of my very tip top book boyfriends ever now.

Oh the things I could do to try and break down that wall.  I’d pull out brick by brick with my teeth until she’s screaming  my name.

Nicola’s resistance to playboy Bram was admirable but ever stone faced, no fun, mommy’s cannot resist his charms.

He was trouble, danger, and I needed to stay away from men like him.

But when they come together is really when their story begins.  Because these two people help each other in becoming better and they had me completely smitten.  Smiling at their sweetness and falling in love with their small family.  Nothing is easy though, and Bram has a past he is hiding and Nicola is so very scared to give her heart away.

“Even smart girls can be fools sometimes.”

This book was witty, charming, sweet, sexy, and angsty.  I loved it to bits.  I seriously cannot believe that Bram managed to make me love him like he did.  LInden was my first but Bram stole my heart for always.  I sure do hope I get a book about this hot cousin Scottish rugby player and Kayla.   I cannot get enough of these boys!

“All in due time.”

BLURB:

I’m an Italian-Texan woman in a family full of cops. I’m passionate and shoot before I think. You only f*ck with me if you’re stupid.

Photograph cheating spouses. Hand over the evidence. Cash my check.

That was my plan when I returned home to Holly Woods, Texas, and became a private investigator.

Finding the dead body in my dumpster? Yeah… Given the choice, I think I would have opted out of that little discovery, especially since all three of my brothers are cops. And my Italian grandmother is sure the reason I’m single is because of my job.

Of course, my connection to the victim is entirely coincidental. Until I’m hired by her husband to investigate her murder and shoved bang-smack into the path of Detective Drake Nash.

My nemesis, a persistent pain in my ass, and one hell of a sexy son of a bitch.

Shame he still holds a grudge from that time I shot him in the foot twelve years ago, or we could have something. In another life.

So now all I have to do is avoid my nonna’s blind dates, try not to blackmail my brothers into giving me confidential police files, and absolutely do not point my gun at Drake Nash. Or kiss him. Or jump his bones.

All while I hunt down the killer.

Sounds totally simple—until a second body proves that sometimes things that start as coincidences don’t always end up that way…

(Twisted Bond is book one of the Holly Woods Files series and while it does not end in a cliffhanger, it is not a standalone.)

Excerpt:

“Noelle,” Drake calls after me, narrowly avoiding the main door slamming in his face.

“Hold them,” I order when Grecia holds my messages out.

She freezes as I storm past her and up the stairs.

“Noelle—”

“Later!” I yell at Mike, jamming my key into the hole and turning it violently.

“Noelle!” Drake finally growls.

I shove the door open so harshly that it slams into the wall behind it and then fix him with my gaze. “In there. Now.”

His chest heaves, and a long moment passes between us as he stares at me, both Mike and Bekah staring at us from their office doors.

“Did I not make that clear, Detective?” I tilt my head to the side. “Now means now, not in five fucking minutes.”

Drake’s in front of me in two long strides. “Watch your damn attitude, Noelle,” he warns me quietly, his breath skating across my cheek. “You might get away with sassin’ your family, but you won’t with me.”

“When you’re on my property, I’ll do whatever the hell I want.” I lower my voice. “And you might not realize it, but I’ve been shitting myself ever since I saw that body yesterday, so unless you want me to rip out a pair of stilettos and tear you a new asshole until you’re forced to tell me what I need to know, you’ll drag your ass into my office.”

“Another threat.” He whips his handcuffs out and dangles them in my face. “Want me to use ’em, ma’am?”

I step closer to him, moving the cupcake box out of the way of our bodies, and fix him with a stare that I know is as potent as his. “I dare you to try, sir.”

We stand off against each other, barely a few inches separating our bodies. My heart is thumping in my chest, and hell, I’m turned on. My lower stomach is burning, and the heat is seeping between my legs because all I can think about is Detective Drake Nash putting me in handcuffs.

He lowers the restraints and attaches them to his belt again. Then he nudges me away from the door and slams it shut with his foot. I open my mouth to speak, but he grabs my arm and spins me against the solid wood surface. I gasp and drop the cupcake box as my back collides with the door and his chest presses against mine.

“Don’t ever dare me, Noelle,” he whispers, his tone thick with a seduction that crawls over my skin and joins the heat between my legs. “Because if I get you in cuffs, there’ll be no trying about it. You’ll be beggin’ for it, babe. Keep getting up close and personal and that’ll be sooner rather than later.”

“You wish,” I breathe. Yes. I do. I damn well do.

He dips his head so his mouth is hovering above mine, and every breath coats my lips. “I couldn’t give a fuck if we’re smack-damn in the middle of a murder investigation. You keep pushin’ me the way you are and I will take you. I’m not afraid to give you a real reason to shout my name.”

“You give me a hundred reasons every day.”

“’Bout time I gave you a good one, don’t you think?”

Good logic. Bad execution. “No. I don’t. I think you should tell me what I need to know.”

“I just did,” he murmurs.

Synopsis

Review

OK, so this Emma Hart book is completely different from the others of hers that I have read.  It wasn’t nearly as sexy and it was probably ten times funnier than anything I have read by her.  I also freaking loved it.  It might just be my most favorite of her’s ever.  And that is saying something because I really adore this woman’s books.

So, Twisted Bond really reminded me of The Rock Chick Series by Kristen Ashley meets The Stephanie Plum Series by Janet Evanovitch.  These are two of my very favorite series and Twisted Bond is right up there with them now.  It was all alpha male cop tries to control funny cupcake eating girl private investigator and her gang.  Ohh, the banter.  The hate.  The sexual tension!

“I don’t care how much you piss me off.  You wear panties that nice and I’m going to be preoccupied.”

I want to touch on that sexual tension just a bit more, because although this book had a lot less sexy time in it than previous books that I have read by Emma Hart, it was still very sexy.  This go around we get sooo much sexual tension, which I just happen to really cherish in my romance novels.

“What is wrong with me?  People are dying and I’m thinking about licking his arm.”

Drake and Noelle’s  relationship was just crazy good to read.  The hate/I want to bang you into next week attitude they were throwing at each other just made me giggle and giggle.  I loved them both so much.  Drake with his ridiculous alpha-ness and Noelle with her hysterical inner dialogue about Drake!

“That man’s mouth is like… Fuck.”

But Drake and Noelle weren’t the only things I loved about this book.  It had a huge mystery playing out pitting the two main characters against each other and I was dying to find out “who done it”.  Add in an insane southern Italian family compete with bat-shit crazy Nonna, you have the recipe for a really comical story!

“What can I say?  I’ve got more layers than Hell.”

I really truly loved this book, guys.  It is an absolute must read.
