Lessons in Pure Life Synopsis:

Freshly minted grad Emilia Noble arrives in Costa Rica to teach English in the tropical community of Pacifica. Its carefree, pura vida lifestyle is a welcome contrast to her dark and wintry origins. Tossing caution aside like an old winter coat, she plunges headfirst into an exotic cocktail of sensory pleasure.

Diego is a local whose surfer body and cool detachment make Lia buzz with a long-lost thrill. Fascinated by her new environment, she can’t help but wonder about the moody inner workings of the boy with triceps like Wolverine and a grimace to match.

Diego seems to have no problem ignoring Lia, though. Caught up in his family’s conflicted attitude toward foreigners, he notices her only when it’s convenient. But as Lia thrives in her new surroundings, Diego might just find reason enough to defy his embattled, insular father. When north and south are mixed together, the results are intoxicating.

Review

Emilia 'Lia' Noble Comes out to her cousin Kat, in Costa Rica to teach English to the community's school students,
Where she comes across the mystery that is Diego Valverde. She has a strong attraction to him immediately.
Diego Valverde is mysterious and broody. This foreign woman who has come to teach English in his sister Genesis' school, and he seems unhappy about it.
He and Lia always seem to be brought together but a past and a family grudge with foreigners holds him back.

I really liked Lia. She was a strong female, she wasn't vulnerable and whiny but she also wasn't all up in your face "I'm a bad ass" kind of strong, she was just a strong leading character in all aspects. She came to Costa Rica to teach English to the locals, in a new school. She had to get away from some things that had happened to her, she wasn't running away, it was more like a fresh start, although her time in Costa Rica is undetermined. She was hilarious too!
"Me Lia. You Diego. I can has your biceps?"
Diego Valverde?? mmmm. That man is a mystery. A hot mystery. He is the brother of Genesis, Lia's new boss. He always done work around the school for his sister, and was proud of the work they did. Although he wasn't a typical alpha, he could be shy but also quite cocky and very charming. He was an intriguing character to say the least. I wanted to dig deeper and deeper with Diego! Oh and I'm definitely going to Google some Spanish words.
"I turn back apprehensively to Diego, who's walking toward me with a challenging grin. I might do anything for that grin. 'Come on, gringa. Let's see what you've got,' he says"

One of the aspects I liked of this book was the cultural experience. It was really explored through Audrey's writing. Through all the characters. Through Lia being new there. Being in awe of all the new things she was experiencing and learning, and how in return she was also teaching and helping the locals learn. We also get to see it from the people who live there, how proud they are of their home. How they see foreigners. The culture was a very big part of this story. We experienced it as much as you possibly can through the characters. You can nearly feel the sun and taste the fruits and drinks that are described, just nearly feel the sand from the beach under your feet. Audrey's writing is very well detailed.

"Bright red strawberries, long green papayas, small round watermelons the color of winter  pine needles hiding a polka-dotted secret inside. Oranges, lemons, limes, cherries, peppers, and bananas draw me with their vivid natural beauty and sweet perfume."

I disliked Diego's father, he did redeem himself though, kind of. Now while I loved the cultural experience of reading this book, and I did I loved it, sometimes, just sometimes it took over, took from the characters and their journey and story. While this book had passion and love, I really enjoyed this thoroughly, but for me something was missing, it needed a little aggressive-passion, I sometimes wanted to shout at Diego to push her up against a wall and kiss her breathlessly. It was a little fade to black in some parts too.
All in all though I enjoyed it! It was fun, sweet, romantic and had its sexy moments too. It's a good get-away book, the perfect escape book. Audrey's writing is smart and funny and her characters are intriguing and interesting. The story develops over time, is not a fast paced story, I wished it was just a little more fast paced in some parts but more so enjoyed getting to know the characters as the story developed. The story easily flowed together.
one question though? Is there more? I hope so!
I need a lot more of Diego Valverde.

“I’ve never seen you cruel before. Didn’t know you had it in you, Boy Scout.”

“You know, lady,” there was a hum in my voice I didn’t recognize. Alex had put it there with just the low dip of her gaze, “you got all these ideas that you know me. You don’t.”

“Ditto.”

Her eyes moved with the shake of my head, following the slow nod, the moment becoming something tactile, obvious as the heating air between our bodies that dampened our skin. Two looks, two held breaths and something had shifted. Hell, who was I kidding? It had started, brewing, way back, the second I grabbed her arm, stopping her from taking that wallet. It simmered when she snuck onto my balcony asking for my help. Now it crackled—that attraction, the symmetry in the breath that mingled between her mouth and mine.

“Alex?” It was only her name falling from my mouth that moved her gaze off my lips, a small glance that was all the answer she’d give me. “I’m not a fucking Boy Scout.”

There are times when you can’t think. Those are the clustered moments when the energy, the zing of the moment you’re in breaks apart any awareness you have. There is no logic in the swell of sensation or the liquid heat that drives one body closer to another. It’s the feel of warmth, the hope of touch that pulls you in no matter what your brain tries to make you understand about right and wrong, friend or foe. I wasn’t supposed to touch Alex Black. I wasn’t supposed to see her as anything but a mission. I was supposed to find her stalker and keep her safe.

But I had always done what was expected. Seems she had to, as well. The difference was that my expectations fell on the side of justice. Hers ran along the tracks of corruption. Both meant we survived however we could.

I didn’t think about the case or what had brought her to me in the first place, and what kept her coming back to me. I reached for her because I knew that’s what we both wanted. I touched her because she let me and once I had her against my chest, felt the smooth brush of her fingers on my neck, sensation shattered judgment.

The last sound I heard before I kissed her was the strangle of laughter falling into a moan. Hers, not mine. Alex was a woman—beautiful, sensual, parts that went in and out just like they’re supposed to, but she did not kiss me like any other hesitant, docile woman I’d ever touched.

She touched me like she was still hungry, like the meal we had just shared had not filled her. Like nothing would.

Synopsis

One lie can change your life.

A web of lies can destroy it.

Neil Ryan was a good Navy SEAL. He was an even better detective, but when an unmarked envelope lands on his desk, long-buried secrets are resurrected and Ryan questions everything he thought he knew about justice, including who killed his mother.

Alex Black is a distraction Ryan doesn’t need—she’s loud, obnoxious and a common thief, but her eyes are haunting, her lips irresistible and Ryan happens to love her filthy mouth.

Review

Alex Black has not had an easy life, and the one she is living just keeps getting harder. A product of her life’s circumstances, Alex survives the only way she knows how, the way she was taught to – by chasing the next con. Alex doesn’t dare allow herself to think or even hope that there could be something more or different for her in this life.

Former Navy SEAL and police officer, Neil Ryan has seen his share of life’s horrors. He’s lived them, he’s survived them. Still managing to follow his moral compass, he became a police officer after serving in the SEALs under a man whom he respected and thought of as a father figure. Once Ryan became a police officer, he began to dig further into his mother’s murder and her best friend’s supposed suicide. He never uncovered anything factual, and he was left with more questions and suspicions. After a confrontation with his mentor, he leaves the police force and heads to New Orleans where he and a few SEAL buddies start a security firm.

Ryan and Alex meet in a very unusual situation, and they realize that they have met before. Ryan can barely stand Alex, and Alex certainly doesn’t trust Ryan, but then again, she doesn’t trust anyone. Alex has something Ryan wants, and Ryan has something Alex needs, so they strike a mutually beneficial deal, and so begins the unusual partnership of Ryan and Alex.

But Alex has a lot going on, and she is getting some very unwanted attention. That attention escalates truly frightening her, and, with no where else to go, it sends her running to Ryan. Ryan, recognizing the situation must be bad for her to come to him, takes her in and agrees to help her.

The mystery in this book is what had me turning the pages. This part of the plot was very well developed and rich with details. Eden Butler has created an exciting mystery in this book that runs very deep, and I believe it will carry through at least the next book, if not further. I’m very intrigued, and I’ll continue reading this series because I have to know what happens next!

The reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars was because the romance portion of the book was a very, very slow burn. The reasons for this were partly due to Alex, who really struggled with letting Ryan in and trusting him. I still would have liked there to have been more romance and a slightly quicker romantic build between the characters, but they did get there in the end.

This author is a very talented writer, and she has built a plot line that is nearly impossible not to get completely swept up in. She went into such great detail, it was so easy to picture the places she was describing vividly. I enjoyed this aspect of her storytelling so much, and it made it so easy to get lost in her book. This was the first I’ve read of the talented Eden Butler, but it most definitely won’t be the last. A solid 4 smooches for me!

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

Review

You need to drop the books, spread your legs, and get fucked, Rosie. If you have any chance of writing that book of yours, you need to experience the sensations firsthand.”

Well . . . after reading Virgin Romance Novelist my sides are KILLING me! I swear I don’t remember the last time I laughed out loud so much.  From the moment I started this book my finger was busy highlighting one-liners and making notes of quotes I wanted to tell my co-blogger. If you are a fan of naïve heroines and some crazy antics than this is a book you won’t ant to miss.

“Note to self, google sex toy objects before using them.”

Rosie wants to ditch her job writing at a Cat magazine and finally with the support of her 2 roommates and best friends, Henry and Delany, write a romance novel. The one problem . . . she has ZERO experience in the sex department and really knows absolutely nothing about how it all goes down (pun untended). Home schooled till college and then scared to really get out of her shell Rosie is the definition of innocent and pure.

“Do not open your mouth is a dick comes flying at your face.”

In her quest to get more “experience” to help bring her novel to fruition, Rosie sets out to put herself out there and we get the glory of watching her dip her toes in the dating pool. Only things for Rosie never go as she hopes and hilarity ensues. But throughout each encounter her two friends are their to help her along, whether it be teaching her BJ techniques on a banana or taking the sacrifice to watch a little porn with her. It is this friendship that really sets the tone and is the highlight of the book. Rosie soon has to learn that while constantly putting herself out there is hard it is all so much better than being a hermit the rest of her life.

“Note to self: When people say dicks come in all shapes and sizes, they are not kidding.”

The writing was clean, witty, and the story flowed nicely. I found myself rooting for all her dates to fail and hoping she would finally realize who she was meant to be. While many authors attempt to write a romantic comedies that are both crass and sweet at the same time in my experience most don’t quite hit the nail on the head. But Meghan exceeded my expectations and

“Hey, don’t talk with you mouth full of dick,”

The Virgin Romance Novelist is my very first Meghan Quinn book and I can honestly say that I am very excited to start working through her backlog of books. If you enjoy laughing your socks off with a side of a love story that will have your heart clenching than this is a book you won’t want to miss!

Review

If you read Bait, the first book in this amazing series by M. Mabie, then I know you have been chomping at the bit for more of Blake and Casey’s story.  I know I have.  Bait left us with a huge cliff hanger.  I wanted Casey to get his happily ever after more than anything in the world and I was left just salivating for Sail.  As soon as it appeared on my kindle, I devoured it.  I stayed up late into the night with Casey.  I just could not put this book down.

We were both sinners and the truth of that hurt.  But having her in my arms, her mouth on mine, I couldn’t understand how I’d ever be forgiven.  And I didn’t want to be.

Sail picks up right where Bait leaves off and I am happy to report that I did not hate Blake nearly as much this time around.  She actually makes much better decisions this book, but so does Casey and I think that makes all the difference.

“I’m done pretending you’re not mine and I’m not hours.  Because we are.  We always have been.  Our hearts just got there before the rest of us.”

Sail is really about Casey and Blake finally coming together.  About their “coming out”.  About them both being firm in their resolve to be together.  About how no one will stop them this time.

“I won’t give up on us.”

I certainly do not want to ruin this book for anyone, so I will tell you that you get a lot of Casey and Blake dating, vacationing, and just being together.  I certainly did miss my Casey.  He is just too sweet, passionate, and hilarious.  Like Blake, I never stood a chance.

“Those curls.  That smile.  Had I really thought I’d ever not want him?  I’d been crazy even trying to resist.”

Now, I am going to talk about Blake for a second.  She doesn’t get the accolades that Casey does because sometimes she makes me so very angry but in Sail I felt she redeemed herself somewhat.  I found myself feeling proud of her.  Honeybee has come a long way since the beginning of Bait and she might just be good enough for our Casey now, ladies!

“I don’t want just one song to remind me of you.  I want every song to be out song.  I want every song we dance to be ours to keep.  I want thousands of songs with you, Casey.”

Ahh..it was almost too much.  The sexy times, the sweet words, the hilarious text messages.  So many damn feels.  Just so many.  That is ultimately was M. Mabie specializes in, if you ask me.  FEELS.  She is damn good at them.  Her writing is so incredibly emotion provoking.  I often find myself carried away reading her books;  laughing, crying, and smiling before I catch myself.  Reading this series has been heart-rending.  Especially the end of this book.  Where the action and sadness came straight out of nowhere.  I guess I sort of saw something big coming but never expected it to all to go down like it did.  I think you will be shocked too.  I cannot wait for more of Casey and Blake’s story.  These two wormed their way right into my heart.  Especially Casey.  He is one of my top, very special book boyfriends.

Excerpt

The room was dimly lit with the few lights we’d left on. It was late, and even though I was tired from travel and just life in general, I craved the feel of him.

Our suite was warm, void of chill or worry. In the bedroom, we didn’t bother with a light, knowing where everything was by memory.

He guided me to bed. He let my hair down and brushed it off my shoulders, and then he held me close and pressed his lips to mine. Casey laid us down so softly I barely knew we were moving until I felt the fluffy pillow under my head.

I deepened our kiss and moaned when his body pressed against mine.

“We’re not going to have sex tonight, Blake,” he said breathlessly around my lips. Why? I wanted him so badly. Just like that. Slow and easy.

I tried to evict thoughts of uncertainty from my mind, but they snuck in with his words. His behavior was contradictory. He’d shown me nothing but affection and care since we saw each other in the airport.

Why wouldn’t he make love to me?

Old demons felt the need to speak up.

What if he doesn’t want you after the chase? What if he only likes the thrill?

I felt my body begin to tense for the first time since we’d arrived. The hands that had been wandering across his back stilled. The leg I had started to wrap around his waist slowly began falling to the side.

“Hey, where are you going,” he said, as he kissed my neck and ran a hand through my hair to the nape of my neck.

“I don’t understand,” I contested. “I want you.” He shifted his weight and I felt how hard he was against my inner thigh. He was definitely turned on. So what was his deal? “Don’t you want me, too?”

“Mmmm,” he breathed near my ear. “God, I want you.” His big right hand hitched my leg back around his hip and he palmed my ass, bringing my dress up to my waist in the process and exposing my pale pink underwear. “I’ve wanted you day and night for so long now. I don’t know how to not want you.” He spoke between kisses and rubbed his nose along my clavicle. Then he bit me gently at the crook of my neck. “But there’ve been too many times I’ve let that need for you cloud my focus.”

“But I—”

“No, Blake. Not tonight. Tonight, I’m going to make you come and then I’m going to sleep next to you. I’m going to fall asleep with you in my arms. All those nights I missed out on holding you and feeling you next to me. I stole them from both of us being scared and stubborn.

I have to be better this time. I see all that you’re doing and I’m so damn proud of you, honeybee,” he said calmly. “But I want more than just physical things from you. It isn’t that I don’t want you. Fuck, do I want you. But I need all of you. Not just this.” He moved against my center and I knew I had to change his mind. After hearing those sweet

words, I had to have him and I wasn’t going to fight fair.

“Please, Casey. Fuck me.”

He growled and pressed his forehead to my chest. “You’re evil.” He laughed. I wished he sounded defeated, but mostly he sounded amused. “You’re not making it easy for me to be noble.”

“Don’t be noble then,” I said as I wound my arms around him and

pulled him closer to me.

“If you knew what I was thinking about doing to you, you’d know I wasn’t.” He rolled partially over toward the center of the bed and ran his hand under my dress and up to my breast.

“Then tell me,” I shamelessly suggested.

The tips of his fingers roamed down my stomach and my pulse sped up. His fingers slid under the sheer fabric of my underwear and my breaths came in spurts as I mentally begged him to keep going. I was so wound up.

“Don’t worry. I told you I’d take care of you.”

Bio

M. Mabie lives in Illinois with her husband. She is the author of the steamy comedy Fade In. Her sophomore release, Bait, is the first book in the angst-filled erotic Wake Series. She writes unconventional love stories and tries to embody “real-life romance.”

She cares about politics, but will not discuss them in public. She uses the same fork at every meal, watches Wayne’s World while cleaning, and lets her dog sleep on her head. She has always been a writer. In fact, she was born with a pen in her hand, which almost never happens. Almost.

M. Mabie usually doesn’t speak in third-person either. She promises.

Blurb

“Don’t Look Back in Anger”

In one night, I lost five years of my life. Here’s what I know …

I was homeless.

I’m a recovering drug addict.

My inked skin crawls from lustful eyes.

I have a serious aversion to women.

My gay partner is a home wrecker.

I own a gun and I’m a damn good shot.

I’m a makeup artist, but it’s an insult to my talent.

I’ve never wanted to possess anything except my Ducati … until I met Darby.

Now here’s what I know since that day in the ER when she pieced me back together … nothing—but a few random thoughts.

My new “friend” is distracting, clingy, and obsessed with acronyms, emojis, and phrases like “breakfast soul mates.”

I didn’t want to like her, but she crawled under my skin and swallowed me whole. Now we’re best friends and she’s my new addiction. I’d drink her from a shot glass, snort her up my nose, or inject her into my veins if I could. What I won’t do … is ever tell her that.

She doesn’t know me … I don’t know me. When those missing years come back, I think she will hate me … I think I will hate me.

My parents named me Patrick Roth, and this is my story.

Excerpt

“Ahh!” I scream as the closet door opens. My heart explodes and I nearly wet myself. I shuffle my feet against the floor, scooting as far in the corner as I can, hugging my knees to my chest.

“Come.”

I shake my head, holding my breath.

His lip twitches. Then, with what can only be described as a scene from a horror movie, he grabs my ankles and drags … he fucking drags me out of the closet. “Trick!”

Hoisting me over his shoulder, he smacks my ass so hard I yelp. “I’m thinking sofa.”

“Trick! Stop!” I scream, kicking and flailing as he carries me downstairs. As I pound my fists against his back, something catches my eyes. He has the ties to both my satin and terrycloth robes partially tucked into the waistband of his shorts along with one of his belts.

OH SHIT!

He sets me down with my ass backed up to the sofa, my chest heaving, eyes wide.

“Do you love me?”

I swallow and nod.

“Do you trust me?”

My gaze falters.

“Darby?” He lifts my chin with his finger.

“Do. You. Trust. Me?”

Another swallow, another nod.

“Good.” He lifts my yoga top over my head, wetting his lips as he stares at my breasts. Then he pulls down my pants, leaving me naked. His lips skim up my legs, stopping at my sex, but all he does is just breathe out causing my legs to pinch closer together. Then he inhales. Standing, he watches me—daring me to run again.
