One week.

Private beach.

Invisible girl.

Jerk-faced bully.

What’s the worst that could happen?

Kaitlyn Parker has no problem being the invisible girl, which is why she finds herself hiding in various cabinets and closets all over her college campus. Despite her best efforts, she can’t escape the notice of Martin Sandeke—bad boy, jerkface bully, and the universe’s hottest, wealthiest, and most unobtainable bachelor—who also happens to be Kaitlyn’s chemistry lab partner.

Kaitlyn might be the only girl who isn’t interested in exploiting his stunning rower’s build, chiseled features, and family’s billionaire fortune. Kaitlyn wants Martin for his brain, specifically to tabulate findings of trace elements in surface water.

When Kaitlyn saves Martin from a nefarious plot, Martin uses the opportunity to push Kaitlyn out of her comfort zone: spring break, one week, house parties, bathing suits, and suntan lotion. Can she overcome her aversion to being noticed? Will he be able grow beyond his self-centered nature? Or, despite their obvious chemistry, will Martin be the one to drive Kaitlyn into the science cabinet of obscurity for good?

“Parker.”

I jumped at the sound of my name coming from Martin’s lips and turned to face him. I also, for reasons known only to my subconscious, balled my hands into fists and lifted them between us, like I was prepared for a fist fight or a boxing match.

He studied my defensive posturing and smirked, taking the seat Sam had vacated without asking permission. Meanwhile I glared at him, my mental wall up and prepped, though my hands fell back to my lap. I had to do this because… super-hot boy alert level ten thousand.

“Sandeke,” I said. I knew I sounded ridiculous, like I was greeting a sworn enemy, but I had to be on guard.

His gaze skated over my face then flickered to my hands, still fists, on my lap. Then he gave my hands a smile. Apparently they amused him.

“Are you going to hit me?”

“I don’t know,” I answered honestly. “It depends on if you take your pants off again.”

“You’ll hit me if I take my pants off?”

“Yeah… I might give you a junk-punch.”

He laughed, very loudly and very suddenly, and with the complete abandon that comes from being surprised. But his laugh was a radioactive seduction and had a half-life of infinity. I wanted him to stop laughing never. It made his eyes crinkle and his mouth curve in a sinful smile, showcasing his excellent dental hygiene regimen.

He also looked so different. He usually wore an expression of perpetual unimpressed boredom. Perpetual unimpressed boredom was a good look for him, a very good look. As were all the other expressions I’d seen, like distrust, mischievous amusement, thunderous anger, unveiled interest, etc.

But laughter… he almost looked happy. Happiness on Martin was a revelation of beauty and physical perfection married to excellent and infectious good-mood-vibes. I let my fists drop. Less than a minute into our first interaction on this trip and my carefully constructed defenses had been virtually blown to bits.

I might as well wave the white panties of surrender.

“Oh, well. Barnacles.” I said to nothing and no one.

His laugh gradually receded and his eyes flickered over me. “No more fists.”

“Nope. There’s no use,” I’m sure I sounded despondent.

“So you think I could take you in a fist fight?”

“I think you could take me whenever…” I shrugged. “If you wanted to, and I really only have myself to blame.”

Martin narrowed his eyes, and they sharpened, surveying me. “You don’t look happy about this.”

“I’m not.”

“Why not?”

I stared at him for a beat then freely admitted the truth. “Here is the problem Martin. I feel like I like you.”
The sharpness in his gaze softened and his mouth curved into a lazy, satisfied smile. “That doesn’t sound like a problem to me.”

“But it is,” I pressed. “Because the feeling originates entirely in my pants.

SEX! It all started with sex, between my parents. Personally I don’t like thinking about it, but whatever works for you is a-ok with me. No judgment. The sex happened in California and much of my life also occurred in that state until I moved from the land of nuts (almonds), wine, silicon… boobs, and heavy traffic to the southeast US. Like most writers I like to write, but let’s get back to sex. Eventually I married and gave birth to 2 small people-children (boy-6, girl-4 as of this writing).

By day I’m a biomedical researcher with focus on rare diseases. By night I’m a knitter, sewer, lino block carver, fabric printer, soap maker, and general crafter. By the wee hours of the morning or when I’m intoxicated I love to listen to the voices in my head and let them tell me stories. I hope you enjoy their stories.

Review

“Then he kisses me, And – damn, damn, damn – he was a good kisser.”

Phenomenal. Exceptional. Fantastic. Remarkable. Marvelous.

Since the heroine, Kaitlyn, in Elements of Chemistry: Attraction, has a thing for reciting synonyms when nervous I thought it was only fitting to start this review off with some synonyms for Extraordinary since that is what this book is. I have long known that Penny Reid can write a great contemporary book but watching her dip her toes into the New Adult pool has been both exciting and fun (see also titillating and jocular.)

“You’ll make me cry.”
“I wouldn’t.”
“You would. I’ve seen it, I see how you treat girls.”
“I wouldn’t do that to you. You’re not- I know you’re not like that. We wouldn’t be that.”
“I don’t trust you.”
“I know. But you will.”

Kaitlyn is happy leading her somewhat boring wall flower life, not being noticed and just trying to find what it is that will make her remarkable like her family. Martin is everything she doesn’t want, a playboy, a jock and cruel to many but she cannot help her sexual desire for him. What she can help is letting it affect her. That is until he kisses her . . .then all bets are off. Since not breaking promises is one of Kaitlyn’s life rules she finds herself on a tropical island with her best friend Sam, Martin and his rowing team mates. While their chemistry is clear Kaitlyn will not just give in to desire. She is a smart girl who will listen to her head. But who will win out the smart voice in her head or the desperate voice in her head.

“My body places you in a state of duress?”  “Of course. Of course it does. What a ridiculous question. Your body causes distress, disquiet, desolation, and puts me in a state of duress.”

Martin Sandeke is a ladies man and I for one can say I have fully fallen for his charms. I adore him and his quick wit and sexual aggression. While at times he comes on to strong for Kaitlyn’s wishes even she cannot walk away from someone who oozes so much sex appeal. While to the outside world he appears to be a bit of an ass to Kaitlyn he is anything but. She is not his typical type but she is everything he wants.

“Martin, this is nuts. You don’t need or want a girlfriend.”  “I want you.”

While I read a lot of Contemporary and Erotic fiction, New Adult has always been my chosen genre so when I read the Elements Of Chemistry short story in the Breathless Anthology I knew that this was something I wanted more of. Of course then, when Penny announced that she planned on turning it into a full length book I was ecstatic. And then when she announced that it was so long it would have to be released in three parts I was jumping for joy! Attraction, the first of three) did not let me down. While it does end in a cliffhanger it is not so bad that waiting a few weeks for the next to come out would kill you. Attraction was EVERYTHING! EVERYTHING! A strong heroine, a panty melting man and wit like only Penny can write. I can already tell you that this series will be one I read over and over again and we are only on the first part!

Synopsis

It’s 1981. Twenty-four-year-old Julia Nash has recently arrived in Manhattan, where she works as a publisher’s assistant. She dreams of becoming an editor with her own stable of bestselling authors—but it is hard to get promoted in the recession-clobbered book biz.

Julia blows off steam by going dancing downtown with her best friend, Vicky. One night, a hot British guitarist invites them into his VIP section. Despite an entourage of models and groupies, Jack chooses Julia as his girl for the evening—and when Jack Kipling picks you, you go with it. The trouble is … he’s never met a girl like her before. And she resists being just one in a long line.

Jack exposes her to new experiences, from exclusive nightclubs in SoHo to the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood; from mind-bending recording sessions to wild backstage parties. Yet Julia is afraid to fall for him. Past relationships have left her fragile; one more betrayal just might break her.

As she fends off her grabby boss and tries to move up the corporate ladder, Julia’s torrid relationship with Jack takes her to heights she’s never known—and plunges her into depths she’s never imagined.

With a fascinating inside look at publishing, this entertaining story of a bookish young woman’s adventures with a rock superstar is witty, moving, and toe-curlingly steamy.

Review

So as soon as I read the synopsis I was intrigued- a book set in the 80’s? This is going to be interesting!  In the synopsis, as you can see, it clearly states that the main male character is a rock star, yet my mind had conjured up this image of a wealthy upper class man whisking this woman off her feet and showing her the world and a scenic image like new orleans – yes ok so I watch too much of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals haha! So it wasn’t quite like the image I had in my mind – but still a fascinating good story!

Music and dancing is a very big ingredient to this story. I liked that about it, I’m always fascinated about stories that really delve into the aspect of a relationship, the highs, the lows, the real struggles, between a rock star/celebrity and a person who is not use to that life. It’s fascinating and it was even more so to read about it especially in the 80’s. Jack is a popular, sexy rock star and is very sought after by the public, whereas Julie is just a regular girl putting the pieces of her heart back after a breakup, working hard in the publishing industry and loves to go dancing in clubs with her best friend Vicky.

“..We kept dancing normally in the spotlight’s glare, unlike a lot of people who put on a show for him. It was distracting because our images were projected larger-than-life against the huge back wall, so everyone could see.”
The story is told from Julia’s POV – it is women’s fiction, after all. It was interesting from her point of view- but frustrating at times because Jack was a complicated character and it would have been nice to get a bit more insight into where he was coming from. I kind of loved that this is a complicated love story that it’s not all straight forward and their love has to be questioned and people probably won’t necessarily root for them from the beginning, it’s one of them story’s that will gradually grow on you. Once you get into it you can’t put down, you need to know what’s going to happen.
Will they? Won’t they?
Are they? Aren’t they?
The secondary characters add so much life to this book too- the relationship between Jack and Julia can be quite intense at times so it’s fun to have the secondary characters balance it out and they’re not just fillers in the story either they have depth to them. Vicky is Julia’s wild  bestfriend and adds fun to the story. I’m really interested in her and Sammy’s relationship, rooted for them and want more. In a story there is always an asshole character, and in this one, that character comes in the form of Jack’s band mate, Patrick, biggest asshole possible, but brilliantly done because you find yourself wanting to know his story, wanting to know what his deal is? Dot is also quite the character and an important one in this story, she is Julia’s mother and the relationship between Julia and her mother is interesting, it’s lovely seeing how that develops in the book.
“You always saw everything in black and white, Julia.  You needed to think one of us was to blame, and it wasn’t going to be your dad.  You idolized him.”
Sometimes a scene/chapter ended abruptly and hopped on quickly and it felt like there was more to be said, more to be told. Other than that though this was a fascinating, interesting read. while Julia is determined, strong and independent while trying to guard her heart and not fall for the big bad rocker,  Jack is sexy and charming, British accent? hellooooo and  he is complicated as hell with insecurities of his own . The characters had so much depth and have so much more story left in them. This isn’t the end of Julia and Jack’s story, it continues in Keep dancing which is out now.
“The part where Jack does something really stupid.  He’s so terrified of his feelings for his woman, he doesn’t call her right away to straighten out a bad misunderstanding… and his heart gets ripped into shreds.”

Moaning as Devil palmed one warm globe and lifted it to his mouth, Molly watched him envelope her nipple, twirling his tongue around the hardened peak and watching as it drew even tighter. “God!” she gasped as he delivered the same treatment to the opposite breast, “I love it when you do that.”

“Tits like these deserve to be worshiped, darlin’. And believe me, I could kneel at this altar all night, but you’ve got so many more curves that I want to explore,” Devil rumbled in his velvety voice as he rained kisses over the upper curves of her breasts.

Molly felt like she was being both bathed in pleasure and showered by bliss as Devil traveled the hills and valleys of her body, exploring every inch of flesh with his damp lips. He paused every once in a while to lavish attention on certain locales, but mostly his mouth remained on the move, content to map her body with gentle touches of his lips. It was slow and sensual, and everything a woman could ask for in a lover.

Her legs moved restlessly against his as he reached the curve of her belly and hunger unlike anything she’d experienced before began to claw at her as Devil’s soft lips lingered over her belly button, his devilish tongue flicking that ticklish spot playfully. Writhing underneath her husband’s marauding lips, Molly giggled as her fingers speared Devil’s hair. “Stop that!” she gasped, twisting underneath him as their legs tangled together.

“Tell me I’m a sex god, then,” Devil demanded, flicking her belly button again and pulling a high pitched squeal from his wife.

“Are you crazy? I will not!” Molly laughed, attempting to turn away from him onto her belly.

Holding Molly flat on her back with one splayed palm against her torso, Devil grinned against her skin. “Say it,” he demanded, moving his mouth lower, his breath teasing against her sensitive folds. “Say it or you earn a punishment,” he warned teasingly, lifting his head long enough to give his wife a roguish grin.

Molly’s eyes lit up at his not-so-scary threat. Licking her lips slowly as her body undulated beneath his, she shook her head. “No,” she clipped tartly, privately knowing that his ‘punishment’ would deliver nothing but the most sinful pleasure.

“No, huh?” Devil drawled, one eyebrow arching as he considered his wife beneath him. “Is my Molly feeling sassy tonight?” he asked, popping his open palm against her neatly trimmed pussy. Hearing her low moan, Devil grinned again. “Tell me, baby, am I going to need to fuck that sass right out of you?”

Molly offered her husband a sexy smile and cocked her head on the pillow as she stared up at him and said the three words guaranteed to drive him wild. “If you can.”

Synopsis

What would you do if a simple date turned out to be the date from hell?

Jade Louis was happily living her dream as a Broadway dancer in New York until a traumatic night sent her fleeing to safety in small town West Trenton, Louisiana. Although no one there knew her secret, she was constantly in fear that her ex-boyfriend would find her and finish what he started.

Review

Jade Lewis has a demon that has been haunting her for a few years. Aidan Sinclair is the guy that became her friend when she moved to Louisiana. Aidan has felt something more for Jade but has been happy with just being her friend, for now. When an unexpected trip to Dallas springs up, Jade and Aidan find out that being friends isn’t all they were brought together to be.
I would recommend reading book 1, Pointe of a Passion, in the Dancer’s Desire series. Just because characters are reintroduced and their stories continue in Rhythm and Rapture. There are a lot of events that happen in this book, some realistic, others not so much. That was the only downfall for me, too much can come across as cheesy. Although there was a little of that, I did enjoy the book. The storyline has suspenseful moments also. I like the chemistry between Aidan and Jade, they were friends first, an excellent foundation. If you are looking for a sweet read, poolside this Spring Break, I suggest you grab Rhythm and Rapture by Annalie Walker. 4 smooches for sure.

Synopsis

Before there were bikers, or fighters, or even good old-fashioned jerks, there were Navy SEALs. They put the bad in badass because, well…it’s their job.

Navy SEAL Maverick Hart has everything. Women want him. Grown men idolize him. Little boys want to grow up and be like him. The job, the glory—it’s all his. Not because it’s handed to him…because he works hard for it. The second his sights lock on something, he owns it—or destroys it. Unfortunately he does both at the same time.

Windsor Forbes only takes calculated risks in her profession and in her personal life. After being left at the altar by the only person she’s ever loved, the very last thing she’s looking for is a relationship—especially the insane brand an arrogant Navy SEAL is offering. Hesitant, yet trusting to a fault, she gives in.

She knew she shouldn’t take the chance, especially a second time, but love is irrational and their love is perfect, infallible. Or so she thought…

The downfall to having everything is you have that much more to lose. A man like Maverick can’t have it all without something slipping out of grasp.

Crazy people perish for love.

Good people live for it.

Love doesn’t die. No matter how many bullets you put in it.

Review

The title of this book, Crazy Good, really does this story justice because that is what it is. Rachel wrote a story that makes you feel and you fall in love along with these two characters.

Maverick is a the Navy Seal you dream about. Sexy and demanding. Protective and HOT. Everything you look for in a book boyfriend. Windsor is witty and smart and careful with her heart. the chemistry between these two is evident from the start but both need to move past the things in their lives holding them back in order to be able to have a real relationship.

Crazy Good was full of emotion and angst and left me with a big smile on my face. I fell in love with Maverick and Windsor and look forward to getting glimpses of them in future books. Rachel did a great job at showing the trials of loving a man in a career like the Seals and all that comes with that. I will definitely be reading more from her in the future.

There is something all too vague about second chances. What happens when your utterly perfect first chance never really ends? What if it’s stolen?

Bull-nosed attorney Morganna Sterns knows what she wants. Self assured, powerful, and independent, she finds herself struggling to find balance between honoring what has been stolen, and deciding if her second chance is going to end just as tragically.

His world is littered with relationships, but only one stands the test of time. Competing with a ghost is hard. Especially when that ghost is a teammate: his brother at arms.

It’s not, “it is what it is.” It’s what you make it. What you, and only you decide it should be. Navy SEALs never make the same mistake twice.

Excerpt:

*Due to sexual content and graphic language this book is intended for readers 18+*

With her rapt, I say, “Sex is primal. Its mouths, hands, sweat, and skin. It’s uncontrollable reactions. It’s tongues, asses, delicious wetness, unbearable connection…it’s absolute and irrefutable fire.” She wets her lips. Shaking my head I say, “You don’t plan sex. Not you. Definitely not me.” I let my hand fall away, stroking her neck before I pull away. She leans into my hand, craving connection.

Ignoring my advance, she says, “Why are you doing this now?” Her normally clear voice falters. “It’s not fair. I of all people know fair when I see it. You…” She waves her hand at my body and face and then perches it on her hip. “Are not fair. You’re not playing by the rules. You come at me with your sex appeal wafting like a Yankee candle and confuse me to no end. I don’t get confused, Steven. You are my friend. Friend.” Her accent punctuates every word she speaks.

I motion to her body, mirroring her. “I have no need to play by the rules anymore. I did for far too long. There is nothing confusing about what I’m proposing. I’m only wafting the vibes because it’s you.” I smile.

Morganna throws her hands up in the air, defeated. “Great. Now you’re proposing things. I need to get out of here. I need some air, I need to breathe. I’ll return a few phone calls.” I see her eyes darting for the exit.

I’m losing my grasp. “Only sex,” I growl.

“What?” Her head whips to face me, her black hair swinging around one shoulder.

“I get it, M. Stone. I get it. We’re similar and you’re trying to push me away because of it. It’s best to stick with the brand of crazy you’re accustomed to. If you weren’t so busy repelling that notion, you’d understand how perfect we’d be together. But if you can’t then please, at the very least, have insanely, amazing sex with me. Don’t have sex with that guy just because you planned to–because you think it will be different. I broke up with Chloe and Sasha as a peace offering…as a way to show you that I want to give us a legitimate try. As fucked up as that would sound to a stranger, I know you get it. You’ll be the only one. I swear. How long have you known me? You know I’m serious.” I thump my fist over my heart. “No one has to know about what we do except you and I and whatever surface we mutually decide we want to fuck on.”

About CRAZY GOOD:

Synopsis

A standalone companion novel to the International Bestseller, CRAZY GOOD. Releasing April 9, 2015

There is something all too vague about second chances. What happens when your utterly perfect, first chance never really ends? What if it’s stolen?

Bull-nosed attorney Morganna Sterns knows what she wants. Self assured, powerful, and independent, she finds herself struggling to find balance between honoring what has been stolen, and deciding if her second chance is going to end just as tragically.

Steven Warner is a Navy SEAL with nothing to lose. His overt humor and charm paired with his lethal skill set make him a perfect catch–for the right type of woman.

Will Morganna?

Review

“Ole’ Steve Warner is a fucked up man

No One has a clue about his master plan

He’s been in love wit a woman for most of his life

And that chick has always been someone else’s wife.”

Set In Stone is the much anticipated follow up book to Crazy Good. Steve Warner has been in love with Morganna since the moment he met her in high school but has always just been a friend to her. While it killed him to watch her fall in love and get married to one of his seal buddies it was even worse watching her mourn Stone’s death. But time has passed and now he is finally considering giving up his playboy ways for the only girl that has even held his attention and brought him to his knees.

“Living without him is the largest challenge I’ve ever taken on. I miss him every second he’s not here, but life doesn’t stop. Tragedy doesn’t halt the future.”

Morganna though love was a once in a lifetime thing and she had that with Stone so she has been content to become the best lawyer she could be and spend time with her best friend, Steve Warner. What she never expected was a second chance at a happily ever after. But will the (figurative) ghost of her ex-husband haunt their relationship?. Could Steve ever measure up to Stone and can Morganna ever really move past mourning and start living her life again?

“Your lips brainwash a smart man, M. I want them.”

I love Steve, love love love him. He was funny and sexy. I enjoyed how his fun natured side had to battle with his confidence when it came to measuring up to a dead man. That seemed to be the overall theme of the book. Steve in the present measuring up to Stone in the past. While I enjoyed the constant flashbacks to both the high school years with Steve and the early years of Morganna and Stone, I do think that too many flashbacks with Stone at time made it harder to connect with Steve and Morganna. I would have preferred less with him . But this was not dramatic enough to think it should deter anyone from reading the story.

“We have been a long time coming, Morg. A long ass time.”

Overall, this was a fun, emotional and sexy story about a HOT book about a sexy Navy Seal and the only woman who has ever held his attention. I found myself laughing out loud often and holding back tears. The story was fluent and the writing smooth. I will definitely be keeping up with other books by Rachel Robinson.
