Review

Oh my God!  What an absolutely amazing conclusion to Calder and Eden’s story.  Wow, this book was beautifully heart breaking and had such an amazing amount of angst, and I love me some angst, guys!

The ending of Becoming Calder had a huge cliffy and left me with a whole bunch of anxiety.

“There’s a spring.  I’ll wait for you.  I’ll be there.”

Every time that it seems that things cannot get worse for these two, they somehow do.  Be prepared for a big time jump.  3 years!  3 freaking years of missing each other, thinking something that happened when it actually didn’t.  You would think that their reunion after all that time would be perfect but, as usual. nothing can be easy with Calder and Eden.

“Eden, Eden, I was dead without you.  Oh God, I’ve been walking around like a ghost–half in this world, and half in the other.”

We had so so many questions at the end of Becoming Calder.  Questions of identities of many people among a ton of other questions.  Most of this book is spent reuniting and searching for answers; the whos and the whys of what happened in Becoming Calder.   I am happy to report that all of my burning questions were answered in Finding Eden and healing begins for these beautifully damaged people.

Xander, Eden, and Calder all make an appearance in this book with the addition of some new characters.  Sometimes with Mia’s books I feel like I got my Happily-Ever-After but am still left feeling a bit sad for her characters.  She has this great ability to bring you a perfect ending with absolutely imperfect people.  She doesn’t feel the need to wrap a pretty bow around her story making it a sugary sweet ending with everything being perfect.  I kind of love that about her books.  They are more real and authentic.  Life is not perfect and not everyone gets a fairy tale ending; sometimes a happy ending is just…. good enough.

Review

The synopsis of this book had me quite confused so I mostly went in blind.  I will suggest that you do the same.  Mia Sheridan always brings me a story I have never heard before.  Not only is she an incredible writer but she is a magnificent story teller; always capturing me right away and keeping my stomach in knots most of the book.

Grab some tissues and make sure you have plenty of time because you WILL cry and you WILL NOT want to put this book down.  Becoming Calder reminded me of reading classic romance.  You know what I mean.  The kind of romance that grew over time into love.  Love that is meaningful and deep, but that can never happen.  The kind of book that you keeps you on edge and aching for its characters.  The tragic kind.

Calder and Eden’s love is so beautiful and meaningful but so so hard.  It will break your heart.  Calder will reach out and hug your heart with his innocence and love for everyone.  You will mourn the loss of Eden’s childhood and pray for her to escape her future.  You will pray for their love to prevail and feel sick with worry when it does.

And gods help me, the seed of love that had taken root, the seed I had vowed not to nourish, started to grow anyway.  I swore I could feel the velvety tendrils moving through me, wrapping around the vital parts of who I was.  

There are a good many aspects of this book that I enjoyed.  I loved the romanticism.  The love letters.  The sneaking around and forbidden love.  Ohh, it melted me.  I really like Mia’s writing too.  It feels so old school romance and Becoming Calder was really that way.  Very classic and gushy.  Sigh.

I am going to warn you that Becoming Calder is the first part of a two part series.  The second book is called Finding Eden and they will both be released on the same day.  Saaweet!  Right?!  Anyways, kudos to Mia Sheridan another brilliant book.  I don’t think she could possibly write a book that I do not love.

When I began to read ‘It’s always been you’ I had the preconceived notion that it would be similar to ‘The Vow’. You know that one where the woman wakes up to Channing Tatum as her husband. Although there is the slight amnesia similarity, this book is action packed and keeps you on your toes. It was a book that not only has romance and steamy sex scenes but takes you into a world of secret agents. Travis Blake is a man that will not give up on Caitlin Kincaid, or to him Sarah Blake. His family, friends and co-workers keep telling him to move on, but to Travis, Sarah is not dead. When the opportunity to begin a security service to the elite, the ex Navy SEAL, delves into his work and his search for Sarah.

Caitlin has been on the run for 3 years and has amnesia. On the run with Jase, an old friend, Caitlin can only trust what Jase has told her of her past. But when a turn of events leaves Caitlin abandoned, she is put back on the radar for Travis. Will Caitlin be able to fall back in love with Travis, or will the past and unknown drive a wedge between them?

This book is filled with action, CIA agents, Navy SEALs, and Russian mobsters. I felt the emotions of these characters. The author did a good job with having the reader connect with the characters. I was able to feel for Travis and his determination to get his wife back. And also the emotions of uncertainty Caitlin felt when she couldn’t recall her past.
