Synopsis

Book 1 of The Girlfriend Series – Chloe’s Book

In the work place, we all know there are boundaries. One of those boundaries is Never Date Your Boss, especially if he is a playboy and you just had your heart broken. When Chloe Lambert finds herself down on her luck, none other than her hunky CEO boss, Garrett Nolan, steps in to rescue her, offering her temporary shelter at his ranch. Now, her boss is looking more appealing, and her friends can’t agree on whether she should sleep with him or not. Don’t even mention the fact she just learned he has a soft spot for kids and is using the ranch to help sick kids. What is a girl to do when it feels so right?

Review

I’ll start by saying that I loved this book, loved it, loved it. When you go into the book, you think it’s going to be a typical love story between boss and employee. BUT NO….this is soooooo much more. The book follows Chloe, who is trying to move forward from having her heart broken, and Garrett her charming and caring boss.

The book starts with Garrett overhearing a private conversation between Chloe and her fiancé Trevor, who is a complete “Dimwit”, this is the call where Chloe ends up homeless, broke and heartbroken. Not sure how to help Chloe but feeling that he needs to help her, he somehow ends up inviting her to stay with him at his ranch while she gets herself back on her feet.

Chloe and Garrett seem to settle quite quickly into a roommate/friendly routine, the tension between them doesn’t take long to appear. And when things do finally happen between them, things get hot. Garrett and Chloe can’t seem to keep their hands off each other, leading to some funny and awkward situations. Both of these seem to have doubts with each other and what they want from this whole situation.

I loved the story of Garrett and Chloe, but the secondary characters played quite a major part in this book. We get to meet Chloe’s crazy and completely different best friends, Garrett’s over whelming mother, flirty brother and typical teenager sister. But my favourites would have to be Kali and Josh. Kali has such an amazing back story and yet she seems to have such an appreciation for everything around her. I love her and Josh together, they are the typical young love couple. Kali and Chloe’s bond and relationship within this book was so heart-warming to read about, and the effort that Chloe goes to help Kali is awe inspiring.

Garrett and Chloe’s relationship moves quickly considering the reason for them being together, but they work. They just fit and it seems like the leap from friends to more was almost effortless, minus a few little insecurities and miss-communication. I am so pleased that things worked out like they did for these two. Well done Maggie Kaye on such a heart-warming and fantastic read. Look forward to the next books to come.

Synopsis: Hiding her identity was a small price to pay for freedom…

Heiress Cara Barrington fled the opulent world of her rich and famous family to carve out an idyllic existence on the California Coast. In the sleepy town of Albion Bay, she’s embraced the simple way of living she’s always craved. No one knows her identity, and she’s free from the pressures of wealth…until her sexy new neighbor threatens the unpretentious world she’s worked so hard to build.

All-Star athlete Ryan Rea enjoys his high-profile status. He’s used to charming his way into the heart and bed of any woman he desires while keeping his own heart secure behind a steel wall. When he meets Cara, she throws him a curveball—she’s unlike any woman he’s ever met, and he has to have her.

Cara’s growing attraction to Ryan endangers her hard-won anonymity, and when she inherits the family business, she must choose between the world she left behind and her new life in the community she’s come to cherish. But facing up to her responsibilities could destroy her freedom and cost her the greatest love she’s ever known.

Wild Angel – Excerpts

Stone prowled from one corner of the
platform to the other with his guitar then stepped back to the mic to sing. The man sure knew how
to whip people into a frenzy. Nicks played to the crowd in one corner, then turned her attention to
Stone. She met him in the middle, thrusting her guitar at him with her pelvis. He clutched his chest
and staggered back, feigning a heart attack. She laughed and went after him, cornering him against
one of the light supports.

She couldn’t explain it, but being up there
with him felt sexual. He was hotter than hell, and if they were a thing, the only task left to do was
make it official. She stared into his eyes as she played, silently making promises she intended to
keep. Tonight.

He turned to the crowd, begging them with
his eyes for a rescue. Willow had said she came across like a ten-foot-tall warrior woman when she
played. That’s exactly how she felt sharing a stage with Stone Jensen. She finally backed away and
freed him from captivity against the support. For the time being, anyway.

*About Shari*
Author_Pic
Though I write contemporary
romance under the name Shari Copell, my real name is Sherry Jesberger.

I write a historical
fantasy/paranormal romance series under the name S.L. Jesberger.
I am an eleventh
generation native of Pennsylvania.  My husband Gordon and I raised three lovely daughters,
one of whom designs my book covers. Another daughter drew the map in the front cover of my
historical fantasy series.

I’ve always had stories swirling through my head. Crazy stuff,
totally whack situations. I was a voracious reader as a child, choosing to escape into the world of
books. I wrote stories when I was a teen, but quit as I grew up. (Keep in mind, there were no
computers then. Writing a book or story consisted of a brand-new notebook and a ballpoint pen.) I
found some of these early stories as I cleaned out my grandmother’s house after she passed.
Unfortunately, I threw them away.

I started writing again in 2012 after my husband lost his job. Aislin
of Arianrhod was published in October of that year. I immediately began to work on the second
book in the series, Winter’s Child.

Sometime in the middle of writing Winter’s Child, I had the
inexplicable urge to swear like sailor, use modern vernacular, and write steamy sex scenes. I was
amused and tried to push it aside. The language in a historical fantasy is obviously much different
from a contemporary romance, so I had to behave myself.

I finally just thought, fuck it. I’ll do it.  It was during that time
that I started to write “Micah’s Island.” I simply needed to purge the wild story that had taken over
my brain by then. It was so much fun to write.  What would happen if you met a man who
had never seen a grown woman before?

I chose the pen name Shari Copell because Micah’s Island was so
very different from the Àlainnshire series. Copella was my grandmother’s maiden name—I just
dropped the A.

For the most part, people seemed to like Micah, though he was a
man of few words.  I got some nice (and not so nice) emails about it, mostly from people
wanting a better ending. I promptly wrote them one.

I wasn’t sure I would ever write another contemporary romance
until Rock’n Tapestries dropped into my head, nearly complete from beginning to end (though I did
run some things past Tara Chevrestt, who edits for me. Her suggestions were invaluable.)
You just have to indulge your muse when that happens, as it doesn’t happen
often.

In the meantime, rock on!

Author’s Note: I’m trying my best to make this a stand-alone read, but it really will make more sense if you read Rock’n Tapestries first.

Review

Wild Angel is the second book in the Rock’n Tapestries Series and although it could be read as a standalone, I highly recommend that you read Rock’n Tapestries first.  It will make your reading experience of Wild Angel so much more pleasurable.  I really feel like you need to meet Asher Pratt to really understand and appreciate his daughter, Nicks’ story.  While this would be a great standalone, the emotional connection I had with Tage and Chelsea really helped me loved Nicks all the more. So, please, please read Rock’n Tapestries first.

I really do not even know where to start with this review because this book literally had IT ALL!  Nicks is an almost 19 year old, bad ass guitar playing, sassy mouthed, senior in High school.  She spends most of her time studying, playing Friday gigs at Tapestries (her parents bar) and serving detention for her stalkerish and, quite frankly, creepy as hell principal.  This is Nicks story.  It is the story of her meeting the love of her life, finding out family huge family secrets, and overcoming all of that.  This book even had a good bit of action, blood, and guts.  There was also a bit of a paranormal aspect.  I really like paranormal but even if you do not, there wasn’t so much of it that it would put you off of the story.  I ,literally, laughed out loud and cried a good many times through the course of this book.  And that ending, well let me tell you, I was really pissed off for a bit there, thinking that Shari had done it again to me, but I was relieved that even though Asher didn’t come through in life in Rock’n Tapestries, he came through in death in Wild Angel.  This was a great book, incredibly well written and kept me turning the pages.  A must read, for sure.

BOX SET SUMMARY:

I thought I was strong… But I wasn’t when it came to Evan Ashford.

The rich, cocky playboy I met within minutes of landing in Hawaii
didn’t give me arrogance. He gave me his heart and his hard truths. In return,
I gave him everything, including my trust. The man made me weak in the knees,
but I soon learned the bad boy surfer had a reputation that preceded him and an
image to uphold.

The sexual chemistry was unquestionable, our emotions irrational,
but our love was undeniable. Together our pasts didn’t matter. Our different
backgrounds were irrelevant. He made me feel his life wasn’t worth living
without me in it. He took my breath away and saved each one of them, owning me
wholly.

Evan became my life, but with all the obstacles that stood in our
way, could he become my future?

NOVELLA SUMMARY:

Life was perfect. Paradise was found in the arms of a redeemed bad
boy. Evan Ashford’s cocky side didn’t stand a chance against true love. He
pursued me with an unbridled determination, a passion that couldn’t be denied,
winning me over. Our lives are now set… or should have been. But nothing stays
perfect forever and happiness comes with a price.
We’ve paid that price.
Sometimes we may not get the answers we seek, but we’ve learned to
cherish the gifts we’ve been given. It doesn’t matter what life throws at us or
takes away, we’ve found love and we will fight for what matters
most—family.

EXCERPT
A lighter appears in front of me. Without bothering to look up, I move forward into the fire. I try to ignore the ridiculously handsome guy as he tries to pick me up after sending his girlfriend away.

He’s unsettling and… confusing, and apparently doesn’t take a hint, so I make myself crystal clear. “Just so you know, your bullshit lines won’t work on me. Anyway, I’m sure there’s a fresh batch of girls about to land who are looking for that fling they will always remember and reflect upon fondly for the rest of their lives.”

The Hawaiian God’s heat emanates from beside me.

He’s too good looking.

He’s too close.

“Speaking of bullshit, a thank you would be nice,” he says, moving to stand in front of me.

“For what?” I ask.

“For the light.”

“Thank you,” I mumble, rolling my eyes and wishing my ride was here to save me from this situation.

“That didn’t sound sincere.”

“That’s because it wasn’t.” I tilt my head, take a long drag, and look up into his blue eyes. Yep, it’s official. He’s too good looking with bad intentions mixed in. That combination does all kinds of tingly things to me—good and bad.

Good Vibrations Excerpts
Excerpt 1:
Nothing makes sense with him, nothing except his lips on mine, willing my mind to settle and my heart to calm. This is right. This kiss makes sense.
His lips aren’t hurried or panicked. He’s sharing this moment with me, taking his time to enjoy the rewards of his patient waiting. My hands are drawn to him and ghost up his chest and around his neck, my fingers locking together. His hands find my middle and pull me closer. My body moves, knowing exactly where it wants to be. My mind has no say in this because logic is overruled by need. I need to be with him and he needs to be with me.

Excerpt 2:
“It sucks being the bad guy.”
“Then don’t be.” It’s hard to stay mad at him for some unknown reason. I’m thinking it’s because even though what Evan says should anger me, he’s authentic in his words. There are no pretenses.
“Easier said than done, my dear. Years of hard work went into cultivating this bad boy image. It’s not going to come crumbling down over a girl anytime soon. So, I spare the chicks some tears and grief and try to play as truthful as possible.”
The man sitting next to me is a paradigm, confusing in the most interesting ways. His words don’t match his mannerisms or the sensibility he so strongly projects, and yet his words are his truth. He’s being honest—at least more honest than he should be with someone he apparently is trying to pick up. Then another thought occurs to me, inspiring me to speak before I lose my nerve. “You’re telling me this so I know not to expect anything from you, aren’t you?”
There’s the smirk, but watching him this time, it wavers before he speaks. He doesn’t rush to answer. His quick tongue waits for the thoughts to back him up. “I’m giving you a ride, Mallory, that’s all. Did you expect more?”
“You’re good at turning the tables on people.”
“And you’re very clever. More clever than most, I suspect. So I’m not going to fool you into anything. That’s not my style. Contrary to what you might believe, I don’t usually encounter much resistance.”
“Oh, I believe it all right!” Wait! I might have just admitted something to him that I’m definitely not ready to admit to myself.
He doesn’t say anything, but the knowing, self-satisfied grin beaming across his face says he understood perfectly.

Excerpt 3:
He turns and looks at me. “The pavement is hot. I’ll carry you the rest of the way. Hop on.”
Being stubborn, I touch my foot to the pavement to test it.
“I’m parked six rows over. You can walk if you want.” He shrugs, but looks confident.
He starts walking, but the ground is too hot and I don’t want to scorch my feet. I huff, putting my hands on my hips. “Fine. I’ll take the ride.”
And there is that self-satisfied smile. If I wasn’t anxious to get out of here myself, I’d protest just to spite him. But I want to get home, so I swallow my pride.
He comes back and bends over and I hop onto his back wrapping my legs around his body and my arms loosely around his neck. My cold, wet, bathing suit is in my hand, dripping down his bare chest, and I find a tidbit of pleasure in that annoyance. He’s getting me back five times over with the friction of his body against my nether region as he moves though. All that separates us is the soft cotton of the briefs I’m wearing.
He makes me want him! It’s hard to give up the best sex of your life over stupid stuff like principles and pride.
We reach the car and he grabs me from the side, spinning me to his front and pinning me against the vehicle with his body.
“Whoa! What are you doing?” My feet don’t reach the ground and he’s holding me by my ass and enjoying himself at that.
“I told you our conversation wasn’t over.”
“Do we have to finish it with your cock pressed against me while your hands fondle my ass though?” I ask, sneering.
He laughs then leans his head against my forehead. “You’re right. We shouldn’t be talking.” His lips graze mine and my body relaxes under his grip. Sensing the tension dissipating from my body, he kisses me. I hold out for exactly point two seconds before I kiss him back.

Excerpt 4:
A lighter appears in front of me. Without bothering to look up, I move forward into the fire. I try to ignore the ridiculously handsome guy as he tries to pick me up after sending his girlfriend away.
He’s unsettling and… confusing, and apparently doesn’t take a hint, so I make myself crystal clear. “Just so you know, your bullshit lines won’t work on me. Synopsis: Andy and I had been best friends since we were eight-years old. Watching him slowly fade away, ever closer to his final breath, made me so incredibly angry. I knew there was nothing I could do to change it–I had given in to despair, but Andy had not. He had one last hand to play. He wasn’t going to simply sit back and wait for Death to claim him–not Andy. He was going to live life until he couldn’t hold his eyes open any longer.

Andy didn’t want to die in some sterile hospital and asked me to take him and Emily to the beach. It would be our last road trip together.

Emily. Emily was a problem for me. I harbored a secret that would have torn our friendship apart. I was in love with Andy’s girl, and had been since she’d walked into our sixth grade class, so many years ago.

So what kind of person am I? My best friend is dying, and it’s awful–but my heart still aches for his girl. I hate myself for thinking beyond Andy’s death and whether there could ever be a future for Emily and I, but I can’t help it. I love her.

Review

Okay, so I read this book during an 8-hour long drive, and that drive went by quickly (probably could have finished in 4 or less, but 2 kids crying, and hubby getting lost, takes me away from the reading!)

I have not cried during a book in a long time like I did with this book!! All I can say is thank you to Red Cheek Reads for letting me review it!

Emily is watching her boyfriend die. Seth is watching his best friend die. Andy, who actually is dying, only wants his girl and bud to be happy. The heart-wrenching love story is so poetic and perfect.

Andy starts the story with…..”Death, it’s the only certainty in life.”

Andy ends the story with…. “Just because a person has gone, it doesn’t mean they won’t live in your heart forever.”

I thought that Missy Johnson did a great job evoking humor and compassion, in a situation that is not happy or fun! Everyone has faced death and dying in their lives, and this story just makes you feel that pain again, but also leaving you with hope for the future and that life can take turns you never imagined.

I rank this book with one of my favorites! I received an ARC for my review, I found a few typos and I actually FB’d the author. She was super cool and when I told her of the typos she was even cooler!! I love technology and how it puts readers with the authors.

The girls at RCR know I am not the nicest reviewer and don’t give major smooches frequently, but this book deserves an A+++, 5 stars, 5 smooches…..

Her life is perfect . . . until Lucas Evanston, sexy former college baseball star turned lawyer extraordinaire, her boss for the summer, walks back into her life.

Six years ago, Lucas thought he’d met the woman of his dreams. Regan was everything he never knew he wanted until he ruined it all and left her broken and unable to trust.

Just like six years ago, the chemistry between them is as explosive as it is unexpected, but Regan wants nothing to do with the man who turned her life upside down and trampled her heart.

Lucas has other plans. Regan owns him, heart, body and soul and he’ll do whatever it takes to win the heart of the woman who haunts his dreams.
